LEGO Ideas Disney contest winner revealed!

Posted by ,

LEGO Ideas has run several competitions to develop themed sets over the last couple of years, including one focused on Disney.

Of the five finalists, Disney Magic by 2A2A has been selected as the winner and will become an official set! The release date will likely be in late 2024 or early 2025.

Are you satisfied with this result and are there any updates you would like to be implemented for the final set? Let us know in the comments.

Great choice, I’m glad this was voted the winner.

SATISFIED?! Satisfied? That's not how winners get ahead. No, I'm not satisfied.

By in Brazil,

Getting tired of all these Disney 100 sets.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

That was so expected. It was only good one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

0/10, not a model of the Disney Magic. That I would buy in a heartbeat.

Seriously though, it's a cool model.

But still not the Disney Magic.

By in Belgium,

Frightening Mickey.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mickey looks a bit more like a dog than a mouse. Mainly due to the mouth.

This will be a Disney 102 set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yes, finally, an official minifigure of Belle! Now I just need a true Minifigure of Beast and I’m set.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Respect to the builder, but I've long since lost any interest in anything Disney. There hasn't been any magic there for many years.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A great idea, and the obvious choice (although I preferred Dumbo), but I just hope that the mouse is made to look a lot less canine!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Obviously, this is not the final model but the top part of Mickey's hat is part 272 which was produced between 1973 and 1978 and is only available in 4 sets (in white). Would love to see that part coming back.

I like this set but now that Agrabat has been done, maybe this part of the scenery should be changed for something else.

@Ridgeheart Opening the hat is a great idea. They could put Kim Possible or Perry the Platypus in there (both apparently secret agent?)

And on that day, humanity received a grim reminder.

See, nobody cares.

We're only at 30; we should expect a dump of 70 sets soon.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

What kind of LEGO part are supposed to be those Mickey eyes?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Aww, lookit that cute lil' Pride Rock!

Wait... Is this the first time Lion King has been referenced in Lego? Considering its massive reach and impact, it's crazy that we have no animal figures of the characters.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is a nice set but I personally would have chosen the “Mops” from Fantasia. The wife says that Disney Magic set is too busy for enjoying as a display. We will pass on purchasing this set. Maybe we can start a campaign to get the “Mops” made into an official set as well .

"Pixie dust not included."

Second. First is in 43230.

A fine model, and I don't think this choice surprises anyone.

Third. The first would be 43221 which has Scar, and either Simba or Mufasa builds.

By in United Kingdom,

That seems to be Cinderella’s carriage but no Cinderella minifig?
Then again we have Pride Rock without any lions so I guess they don’t all get representation

This is not the final Lego kit. This is the submission fan one.
You know like with the ideas sets. From the fan submission that wins, Lego will modify, change things here and there. Stuff like that.

By my quick look, there are 129 items in brickset with the Disney tag in 2023. 28 of those are collections/bundles, unreleased, magazines/magazine foil packs.

So that gives 101 Disney sets released this year. (But that does include Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and Indiana Jones.)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks good, I just hope they use other characters instead (i.e. characters that have not yet appeared in minifigure form).

Gravatar
By in Finland,

How was this a fair competition? That submission is just a bad photoshop of png prints, floating mini builds and offical, bent renders of old minifigures! And just like the DnD competition, the Ideas team chose one clear winner, weird minifigureless losers and left the other good ones out of the fan vote. "Haha I wonder if people will vote this tiny diorama of Bambi with basic bricks or these already tons of sold sets?"

Gravatar
By in Austria,

The Fantasia brooms was a much better set.

But people voted for this in the VAIN hope that LEGO will make it with all these minifigures.
Those people are in for a nasty surprise.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wanted magic hotdog mops :-(

Gravatar
By in United States,

Woohoo. Mickey Ruxpin.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Mouth design is indeed very creepy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No offense to the designer but I see this warming a lot of shelves. Can you imagine if Lego made a similar display piece with Star Wars? Ridiculous

I personally liked the Bambi one much better, seemed so much more charming to me.

But it was clear to me from the beginning that this one was going to win by a mile, since it has got the broadest appeal overall. It almost screams "buy me you Disney fanboys, you'll love me like you love anything I throw at you."

they won't stop til they've done 100 sets!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I voted for the Tinkerbell, I thought it was beautifully created, whereas this seemed just "more".

I always find it funny how the fan vote tends to be the largest build and then immediately people say that Lego is pricing people out of the hobby.

Did they ever state that they would do 100 sets or is this simply speculation?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

If it release on Halloween I can understand it but this is nightmare stuff.
Anyway, Disney = DINO (Disney In Name Only as the magic has left along time ago...

Mickey-luto...

Gravatar
By in United States,

As long as this doesn't end up being $200+ I do like this idea.

I'll be very curious to see the changes LEGO makes to the design for the final product--especially when it comes to the minifigures that are included.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This wasn't my ideal set, but it does encapsulate all that is Disney 100. Will be interesting to see the final result
