The annual China International Import Expo is going on now, and LEGO is in attendance. We were expecting some new sets to be officially revealed to coincide, and now there is an early peek on the LEGO Builder app and at the event!

Images of these sets, from the BrickHeadz, Chinese Traditional Festival, Monkie Kid and Friends lines, can be found after the break...

Thanks to Jay's Brick Blog for the news.

Update: The sets have been added to LEGO.com, confirming their release on the 1st of January. Images and details have been added to the database.

By in Australia,

Now THESE are some impressive looking sets!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have a feeling that the dragon is going to be *very* popular.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Green flowers, huh? That does open up some interesting plant techniques.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Might need the family reunion to make a "Chinatown" in my modular street.

The Megalopolis has 'printed' (not sure) bricks with LL01, LL02, and LL03 in blue - which would be just fine for some SPACESHIPS! (and trans-yellow windows!)

Dragon and shopping centre are very neat as well. I think 2024 will be an expensive year.

By in South Africa,

I'm sad, and my wallet is glad, that 80054 Megapolis City isn't modular building compatible. Same goes for 80036 The City of Lanterns previously, as both of these are beautiful sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those are new peach pieces right? Not just pink technic balls? Definitely expect to see those in the next wave of Animal Crossing sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The family celebration, megapolis, and friends shopping mall look amazing! The rest aren't interesting in my eyes. I'm very curious story wise what is happening in megapolis. A bunch of the villains are reappearing. Also the set contains a green classic space helmet!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Family renunion set is amazing. I would love to have “family gathering” type sets for different countries around the world.

New banana peel piece in 42604 as well!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Loving the guest appearance from a certain duck in the Monkie Kid set.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Woohoo! Looking good!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Oh, I LOVE that dragon. I was looking forward to what Creator did with the "year of the dragon" theme (since we tend to get a lovely Creator set that matches up with the Chinese lunar year, like the rabbit this year, or the tiger last year), but if I have to buy multiple dragons, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Gravatar
By in South Africa,

42604 Heartlake City Shopping Mall - return of the escalator, since they only previously appeared as such in 41450 Heartlake City Shopping Mall. I'd love to get one of those in the modular building series!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I need the city, restaurant, calendar, and dragon.

A Ferris Wheel as public transportation? Perhaps my city planning board will finally take me seriously now that Lego has shown the way.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

80113 should have been a modular...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have eyes only for the new classic space tile and the many trans yellow panels in the megapolis set!!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Real treats! Just wish Megapolis would have a tram connection to the City of Lanterns!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great looking sets and some lovely colour variations

Agreed, the building work is so interesting. I also hope TLG officially release some of the mini Homes around the World sets!!

Gravatar

80054 and 80113 are beautiful, take my money, please.

Something else: shouldn't Brickset post an article/newsflash about Bricklink being out for days (possible hack)?

From where did you get that information?
It doesn't show in the pictures from what I can tell. I can only see a couple of standard motorcycle helmets without visor in various colours (no green one though).

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Don't know why but those new banana peel elements give me hope for Super Mario Kart sets with minifigures. It just happens we see them in a Friends set first.

The Chinese Restaurant is cool, sadly not a full modular building, but a dollhouse. Why is it so difficult to include a removable wall? The dragon is interesting, but the colour choice is awkward. Teal, tan, red, gold and the orange clouds make it kitchy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Chinese Traditional Festival sets are among the best released each year and these are no exception!

Next to the pig on the top level there is a vending-machine clear box with what looks like 2 helmets inside.

Great spot!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely cramming that family reunion on a baseplate for my city.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Reunion Celebration is going to look great in any City, I've seen suggestions on a Discord Group that 40678 and the dragon boat maybe GWPs....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yep. That Dragon. Need that to go with my Majestic Tiger. Hope they do the usual CNY Dragon too. Will then have one for myself, my son and my wife!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

80113 Family Reunion is a must for me, looks as good as the regular Modular buildings, with lots of great interior detail. Will admit some of those dark green ingot roof tiles might get pinched for other MOC's.
Also, love how 80054 has modular shops to allow you to customise it's appearance. As a child I would have messed around with that endlessly

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Apart from the rooftop dining (which I've never, ever seen before with a traditional Chinese restaurant) 80113 absolutely nails all the details. The foyer with the curved staircase leading upwards! The private banquet room with a karaoke machine in the corner! The toilet with a dingy window! What a lovely set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sure Lego, remind me that I wasn't able to get 41624. Also, I'm wondering if 40678 will have pieces to change the year and instructions showing how to do each digit. Also also, I like that new shoulder bag for minidolls

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Imho last chinese festival sets were a bit messy, but Family Reunion and Dragon are very neat, without any unnecessary extra side builds! Love it!
BTW: Lego could promote a bit this theme in Europe. For example amazing 80109 wasn't very popular for ppl which don't follow LEGO news!

Speaking of mess. As an AFOLS do you really like that 80054 chaos? xD Too crazy for me, 80036 was much more well-organised.

Green CS helmet here. A complete purple CS astronaut in a recent employee-only set. A brown CS astronaut in a CMF series not that long ago. Hmmm. Will we see a CS set or range in 2024 or 2025 with astronauts in the 40516 Everyone Is Awesome colours? I’m starting to think so.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Liking the family reunion but probably need two, hope it's not expensive.

I like metropolis but not city of lanterns.

That dragon does look good.

If you can get your hands on the grand emporium modular from back in the day, you'll find two in there! It was always one of my favorite features about it.

This is my plan. I have the Spring Lantern Festival "modular park" already, and I bet this would look great up against it.

That dragon is so freaking cool, I might need that just because.

Gravatar

Might have to rearrange my Christmas list for the city of lanterns, the megaopolis is one of the best looking sets of the decade.

I had seen that vending machine, but to me that doesn't look like Classic Space helmets inside. Especially since no one is wearing them in other pictures.
I'd love to be pleasantly surprised though. After all, those helmets in green would be awesome to finally make a true and proper complete green retro Classic Spaceman, and not just an almost complete one like in the Exo-Suit set.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

That dragon looks fantastic.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is the dragon boat in the images of 40678 Festival Calendar incomplete as seems odd not to have a crew of any kind? Even if move the people off the top of the calendar into the boat then it is still going to look a little sparsely populated.

The calendar part - that I like. And pretty much everything else on display here.

It looks to me like the calendar can be displayed on top of the boat.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't know why, but I'm loving that Ferris wheel over-hanging at the top of the Monkie-Kid building. What a thrill ride!

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

The "mini-modular" design of Megapolis is brilliant, the setup on the back of the box with the ferris wheel at the base and the house "pods" on top and the balconies to the left looks great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The CNY sets are amazing, as always, but the Family Reunion really takes the cake!! It’s going to make an amazing modular, as soon as I can get my hands one it!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ICAbricks said:
"But seriously, more Monkie Kid? That theme is even more overrated than Ninjago itself. Just die already!"
I suspect that Monkie Kid sells well in Chinese sphere of influence countries and moderately well elsewhere. I don't see it going anywhere. It's not my cup of tea but I certainly don't begrudge FOLs who like it. It's not as if LEGO is sacrificing themes that interest me like Castle, Classic Space and Superheroes to make way for MK. I'm sure LEGO has sufficient design, production, marketing etc capacity/budgets for all themes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very very cool, definitely getting the dragon!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This year's Chinese Traditional Festival sets are excellent as usual, and the wallet even gets a short breather after the Modular this time!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

CTF sets are listed on Lego. The restaurant is priced really good.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Trans yellow panels and green CS helmets? I know what I'm ordering from Pick-a-Brick next year!

Anybody want a bunch of standard yellow 4-petal flower plates and Opera Viking horns? I see an upgrade in Gorilla Grodd’s future. And Minions can finally actually _EAT_ bananas.

@PhantomBricks:
I can find what looks like a 3x3 round tile with a Classic Space logo sticker, but not this green helmet.

The green helmet is in a "Time Cruisers"-branded claw game/vending machine next to the Ferris Wheel.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the Classic Space logo homage on the backs of the torsos for the couple in 80113, using a dragon in place of the space ship and planetary ring!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those are some nice looking sets. I guess I'll have to put some on my list and then hope for some sales since the rest of '24 is likely going to be an expensive year.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

80113: Family Reunion Celebration certainly seems to be inspired by the previous type of diner set 80101: Chinese New Year's Eve Dinner which was exclusive in large parts of the world (before they became world wide releases the year after)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I get the megapolis is an anniversary set celebrating the theme, but I wish they gave a better variant for LBD. Especially since one that was used most throughout her screen time has never gotten a minifigure, and I am sure it would be outstanding. However, the idea of her being a chiropractor is hilarious.

Again that's pure speculation. Unless this is confirmed by some review (or at least better quality images) I will not get my hopes up. The stuff in the vending machine just looks like undefined round blobs to me. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

Happy in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . its definitely a green helmet. I'm unsure if its classic space, or the more modern race helmet, but it is certainly one of the two. Next to it is a red construction/hard hat. Additionally, in one of the other lifestyle photos, it looks like there's a purple pirate/captain's hat in there as well.

Side note - you may want to make an appointment with an optometrist . . . or stop reading BrickSet on your watch? :p

That's a possibility I hadn't considered. Thanks.
I had wondered why the white jumpers on the boat didn't seem ideal for standing the figures but placing the calendar there would make sense.

80113 Family Reunion Celebration and 80054 Megapolis City are the ones I'm interested in...but not for 'the sets'...

"Reunion": Woooow...that's a lot of figures, and a bunch of good one to boot. Also reminds of a family reunion I was at when I was a kid, so that work too.:)

"Megatropolis":...I see placing a confused Superman next to it...:D No, but; parts, Parts, PARTS...especially that 'Space Elevator' on the side... @Murdoch17, yeah the panels first drew my eye (darn near ripped 'em from their sockets actually:D), missed the helmets, but those 'floor panels' one the side..."LL 01", "LL 02", and "LL 03"...I can see: 'shuttlecrafts', 'fighters', and other smaller vehicles using them...and that 'logo spot'...

By in United States,

Love the Lego wooden duck and Classic Space motif of the section in the Monkie Kid set. Monkie Kid has been such a fun theme. It's zany and full of personality but also manages to stay cohesive and not so random that I'm lost. It reminds me of Space Police III. So at 2300+ pieces, I suppose we're expecting $250? Fortunately it's a first party theme, so maybe they'll give us a little grace and put it closer to $200?

@AustinPowers:
Those “standard” motorcycle helmets have mounting points for demon horns. Even without the horns, it looks like the helmet is about to spawn a pair of billiard balls.

@R0Sch:
You can always mod it. My Flintstones house is fully enclosed, and the front edge of the roof flips over so I can display it with Santasaur and nine tiny reinraptors on the roof.

@jsutton:
The blue one is an admiral’s hat. Red is a construction hardhat. I think you’re right about the green helmet being the Benny-style space helmet. It looks too squared off to be a motorcycle helmet, but a more side-on view would be helpful.

@Zander:
I haven’t heard of any official purple Spaceman, but a CMF alien had the printed torso (_just_ the torso), I think last year’s large CTF set had the helmet and airtanks, and arms/hands/legs are easy enough to obtain. The recent Halloween VIP accessory polybag GWP also had the helmet. The helmet and airtanks are less that two weeks from being delisted on B&P, though.

If you pull up the Images tab on the set listing page, and there are at least two shots that give you a good view of the vending machine. The first in the upper left shows the green helmet and red hardhat. The last in the lower right shows the blue admiral’s hat. I don’t see any other images that would show enough detail.

My issue with the helmets is that green only comes in motorcycle, and whatever shade of pink they used for Benny’s Space Squad only comes in Benny-style. I would be happy with either of the two missing helmets that allow a complete run of matching Spacemen. You do have to spend a fair bit to get a non-Benny blue, though, since the unbroken version only came in one Ninjago set several years ago, and both black and blue would require obtaining either true vintage or the retro style Spacemen from those TRU “vintage” minifig collections.

I'm liking the Reunion Set & Megapolis. Much better than last year's options. Don't care for the others. Now to decide if I wait for the inevitable price reductions later in the year or buy them earlier when there is a decent GWP/2x Insider points promo.

Though I must say I found listening to that guy extremely strenuous. He speaks so fast and often butchers the words until they are hardly recognizable anymore.
There are so many English speaking YouTube channels I love to watch. But his isn't going to be one of them.

@PurpleDave, I was referring to the one from the employee-only set linked to by @Ridgeheart, which is also in the Brickset database here: https://images.brickset.com/sets/large/DS2023-1.jpg?202310290736

I’m aware that you can assemble a purple CS spaceman from parts from disparate sets/sources. I already have a couple. But as I said, I reckon that LEGO will be releasing a CS set or range with spacemen in various colours. That’s just speculation on my part based on parts LEGO has been producing in the last year or so.

It is indeed a seriously demanding affair to listen to this for any length of time. But, very good content thought. A green proper space helmet, a new fruit, a new colour (vermillion?). Unfortunately, the LL01 LL02 LL03 seem to be stickers. Maybe we will get the 'All spacemen are awesome' - that would so: awesome!

£89 for 80113 ! On seconds thoughts I just need one, my room display will only show the front anyway, the back will be against the wall.

It's the contemporary Tuber drawl that does a faux-SoCal-Valley-Girl growl at the end of every sentence.

It's their way of saying 'I'm too cool to really even talk to you, don't really care about what I'm saying, and the joke's on you even though you don't realize it.'

But we do realize it. It's impossible to listen to that for more than 30 seconds without having your IQ drop significantly. According to some, it's quite damaging to you vocal cords. Others blame the Kardashians for the whole business. Finally, some have even compared the habit to whale song.

Unfortunately, the LL01 LL02 LL03 seem to be stickers. Maybe we will get the 'All spacemen are awesome' - that would so: awesome!"

Hey, can we not make fun of people's voices? Believe it or not different people talk differently and I think saying listening to them will "lower your IQ" is kind of offensive.

Though I must say I found listening to that guy extremely strenuous. He speaks so fast and often butchers the words until they are hardly recognizable anymore.
There are so many English speaking YouTube channels I love to watch. But his isn't going to be one of them.

And doing very well. Regardless of your voice in videos, which I think sounds perfectly good, there is nobody more knowledgeable and balanced in their opinions of NINJAGO, in my view.

Agreed. Hopefully they follow typical disclosure best practices (if there was a data breach).

For those who are curious, this was the email sent out (so far):

Dear (username),

We're writing to let you know that on Friday we temporarily closed the BrickLink site due to unusual activity.

Since then, the team has been working super hard to make sure we can reopen as soon as possible – and we’re getting closer to doing that.

Thank you for your patience and support. We’re grateful to have such amazing members.

We know it's frustrating and disappointing. We want to assure you we’re working as fast as we can - and not getting much sleep - to restore BrickLink.

Many thanks,
Your BrickLink team

The videos are nice!

I think you need to work a bit on the sound, not sure what mic are you using or how you position it, but dubbing over these video can make your voice sound better (with clarity and less room verb). Another thing is to pace it a bit down. You know what you think, you know the set but as viewers we don't and our attention is also going to the visuals of the set and if the VO is too fast we need to "fight" more with which element should grab the attention. The video is great, other than the full sets shots, I think having the hands when you're just talking is distracting, and blocks the view. See your video about Amy's Animal Rescue to see what I mean. These are nitpick things, but I think worth the try. Keep up the good work, BBM! :)

And we really appreciate that. Especially since your content itself is awesome.

The problem is the speed and often unclear pronunciation of the words which makes it extremely hard to follow (and I actually got a headache after a couple of minutes, no kidding).

Perhaps you should simply try talking a bit slower so that the words come across more clearly. Again, perhaps take Jang as a perfect example.
Especially for non native speakers of English like myself this can make a real difference.

The manner in which one speaks is not different than the other ways in which one acts. It is eminintely susceptible to change as it is to provoke criticism.

In my area of the world (the general area where this drawl is commonly thought to originate), this manner of speaking almost always coincides with an upbringing of wealth without education (e.g. the Kardashians). That is the ancestry of the Valley-girl drawl. It has consequences. I'm not the one enforcing them. From the article I cited above, "studies have suggested [speaking with vocal fry] is deeply polarising for humans."

Given the negative social background, I also have no problem making fun of it. I would do likewise if someone tried to talk down their nose with snobby, aristocratic Queen's English or racist, Southern drawl.

It is the contemporary age that insists on publicizing one's life while simultaneously remaining immune from criticism. I think that outlook is silly and doomed to endless suffering.

If you're going to put yourself out there, be prepared for criticism. If it cannot make you better, if you can't grow a thick skin, then perhaps it's not for you.

I agree, but these minifigs are tough folks. They regularly take a five foot fall and still smile when I pick them up.

I think it's really odd that there's not even a mention about it on Brickset. Bricklink is owned by LEGO, so that's some official news. I care more about buying LEGO pieces via Bricklink than I do about the 3rd quarter LEGO earnings with diagrams etc. Maybe they have instructions from higher up...?

@bobaphat107:
Bricklink is owned by TLG, but it’s operated somewhat independently. They have their own staff, some of whose employment probably predates the site’s purchase. And the site was hacked to a standstill on two previous occasions (I believe 2014 and 2016, since I was in a frenzied rush to get orders placed so they’d arrive prior to Brickworld Chicago). Both times they just patched the code enough to get the site operable, never figured out how the hacker(s) got in, and therefore never figured out how to keep anyone else out. You don’t hear about TLG’s site getting hacked, but Bricklink has been more focused on trying to market MOCs and chase Amazon customers than they have on rebuilding the site from the ground up so they can get rid of all the frankencode that made them so vulnerable. I stopped buying through them the instand they forced on-site PayPal payments in the US. I get why they did it, but I can just as easily order stuff from B&P (and qualify for GWPs). Maybe now that this has happened on TLG’s watch, there will be a change in how things operate around there.
