What is your favourite LEGO colour? Blues

Posted by ,

From the conversation on recent reviews, certain LEGO colours seem remarkably polarising, so we are conducting a survey to find out which are the most popular.

Our poll about shades of red, orange and yellow was published a couple of days ago and today we are shifting attention to the nine current shades of blue...

What is your favourite of these LEGO colours?

Which colour received your vote? Let us know in the comments and check back for additional polls in the next few days. If you have not done so already, you can vote in our first poll here:

I asked ChatGPT to describe Blue to a person without sight:
Blue is a hue reminiscent of the sky on a clear day or the depths of the ocean. It embodies a cool, serene quality often associated with calmness and expansiveness.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Pretty much all light blues are terrible for sun discolouration so probably the darker hues.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Not surprised that Light Royal Blue / Bright Light Blue is where it is.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Teal.
On another note, are Rock Raiders fans numerous enough to warrant a big nostalgia-bait set like LEGO likes to release recently? I would buy one.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Maersk blue!

Gravatar
By in France,

Dark Azure is a blessing

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have just always really liked set made up of predominantly dark blue bricks.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

French racing blue

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Through Teal, Rock Raiders will live on!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Sand blue for me! I love sandy colors! ^^

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I know this is a bit boring but I really love standard blue, as well as the standard green and yellow.

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

Trans-dark blue is the best blue!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Had to be Teal, in honour of one of my Minis (not that British Leyland Teal Blue bore much relationship to Teal!)

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Sand blue is my first pick. Dark azure and teal would be close behind it. And - yes - I agree with some other users to give an honourable mention to classic LEGO blue, one of the colours of our childhood.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Metru Blue ftw, my overall favorite LEGO colour, just slightly beating Keetorange

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Team TEAL!

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO needs a color between blue and earth blue. Blue is a bit to bright, and earth blue is a bit too dark.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Dark azure no question with earth blue a close second.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

now imagine the new modular building in Sand Blue instead of Olive ...

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

There is a new orangish colour. I want to suggest a new blue between earth blue and sand blue.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Sand Blue is nice, Dark Blue is also nice but kinda annoying in between black parts.
Teal, my beloved!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Bit surprised to see not a lot for medium blue. Am I the only one?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm Bionicle-nostalgic, so I really felt inclined to run with Takua-blue. I know dark azure is usually preferred these days, to the point of 40581's Takua having that colour for his mask instead, but I just find medium blue a more gentle colour - which is definitely something I prefer in a shade of blue.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Dark blue because I'm crazy fan of Agents and I'm writing novels partly based on the themes of this series. Besides, I like Sand Blue because I love Alpha Team and the Deep Freeze games. I also noticed, Maersk Blue is missing from the list.

Gravatar
By in France,

I chose classic blue as two of my favorite 4-wide airplanes are in that color. Delightful.

BLUE

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like dark blue, but went for medium blue as both are nice colours for buildings. But when it comes to minifigures, I prefer something else for skin tones. Teal could disappear again and I wouldn't care.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

It was a close call between dark blue, sand blue and teal for me… went with sand blue in the end

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sand blue.
Teal doesn't belong here, it's "Bright Bluish GREEN", after all.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Again a vote for the muted colors: Sand Blue and Medium Blue. :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sand blue all the way. The new Disney Castle’s abundant use of it was GLORIOUS!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

My favorite is Bright Light Blue. I am clearly in the minority, I’m ok with that. It’s a nice calm color.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dark Azure is the best. Most of my dark azure is in either minifig parts or the Jazz Club, but it is such a nice color and I wish they'd put it in more sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish it was Aqua--which was a much nicer tone. It's only Light Aqua that's available, and it's hard to use :-(.

Yeah, I'd group Teal with the greens too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Blue has always been my favorite color, so asking me to choose is like asking a loving mother to choose her favorite child. But after much deliberation, I;m going to have to go with Medium Azure, largely due to its use in Friends and Elves. Was tempted to go with Light Royal Blue because 10298 looks so good in that color, though.

@ThatBionicleGuy: 40581's Takua has a Medium Azur mask, not a Dark Azur one.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I've never liked blue as a color (in any shade) so I have to go for Teal. That's closer to green I think, but that's good, because that made this an easy choice. If pressed to choose between the actual blues, it would have to be Earth Blue.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I really like dark blue in the overlord's colour scheme

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dark blue is my favorite. But really I like all the blues. I wish I had more of them.

That was my choice as well.

I’d pick “All of the above” if possible. Teal is of course Number One. Sand Blue, Dark/Earth Blue and Aqua all get Honorable Mentions. Throw in Sand Green, and you have the top five colors in the entire LEGO palette.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Favourite Lego colours: yellow, red, blue, white, black - the original five (+ trans-clear). The others are just to add a bit of detail.

(but I think you have to add grey (and trans-yellow) in there because of SPACESHIP!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

4508 Titan XP made me fall in love with Sand Blue.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Lego has so many shades of blue. And pink. So many shades.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Teal hoarder reporting in xD

I never could decide between green and blue as my favorite colors (outside of Lego), so teal/turquoise just became it very early on. And 107 Bright Bluish Green aka Dark Teal just exacty nails the perfect shade for me. I had to collect the entire Cyber Slam theme just because of it (although these sets are actually quite fun...).

It probably also played a huge role in my fascination for the Rock Raiders theme and why I never got that excited about Power Miners...

No, you're not the only one, it's my favourite of the options. I get the sense it's on the way out. Fingers crossed it's not. It seems that in places where Medium Blue might otherwise have been used, Light Royal Blue and Dark Azur are getting used, IMO.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

teal all the way
did they get it mixed up with aqua? they shouldve been swapt if i didnt know wut the color already looked like i wouldve picked aqua

Oh right... clearly I've been paying attention xD;; I knew it was one of the azures because it was specifically mentioned in a designer interview, but I guess I misremembered which azure it was. Either way, I personally prefer its classic medium blue, but that's just me.

Thanks for the correction ^^

Nobody knows the colors I’ve seen! Nobody knows the colors…oh, wait, wrong blues.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Instead of going dark blue like I did dark red....I went sand blue for Shark Army. All the dark colors, red, blue, orange, green, all fantastic!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I always preferred the sand colors over the regular colors. One of my favorite greens which is my favorite color is sand green.
My favorite blue is definitely sand blue. It just looks really cool on the Tie Striker from Rogue One. Honestly Rogue One might be the greatest thing Disney has ever created. The only downside to it is it made an old video game non existent.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Surprised at the current results based on the number of people posting they like Dark Azure & Teal. I'm going with team Dark Blue.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@PurpleDave: So your vote is one of the blues used in 10312 or 21334?

@Endermen39: Two things. I'd put Solo above Rogue One if we're raking Disney Star Wars movies. Two, Dark Forces (I assume that's what you were referring to?) still exists, it's just not canon anymore.

I couldn’t find the right words. Thanks. Also very few people know of Dark Forces. I know it’s a 1990s game but I hear of it way less than some of the other games that were released for the Nintendo Switch Star Wars Aspyr bundle

I can’t find the set inventory anymore, but I’ve run across one on BL that showed medium-blue was used in 1954, one year before primary-blue was introduced. Regardless, they eliminated several colors to get down to the Mondrian palette.

71002-12, because you can put a blue feather-flame in Joliet Jake’s saxomophone, and he can literally play the blues. Or you can use dark-blue, if he’s _really_ feeling it.

@Endermen39:
Oh, people still know about Dark Forces. Most just don’t have a viable system to play it on. It was a PC game. Also, no lightsabers or Force powers, so even when it was fairly recent, it kinda got abandoned when Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, and the awkwardly-named Jedi Knight II came out.

Gravatar
By in France,

Medium blue was used for the 2009 medieval village.
I think its a really nice color for buildings and it associates itself really well with Reddish brown.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I find it really difficult to pick a favorite color in general, It depends on the setting. They all have their uses. So instead I voted for the one I would least want to lose.
I guess there are a lot of other colors in that tier, but personally I would have expected to see aqua and teal among the greens. But maybe that's just me?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I voted medium azure, but I also really love dark azure, and an honorable mention should go to medium blue. I honestly don't understand the love for teal. It's an okay color, i but don't think it's that great.

Always good to see another ELO fan!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dark Azure is my favorite color in all of LEGO, so that was an easy pick. Not surprised to see Dark Blue and Sand Blue leading the charge - those are both great! On the other hand, good ol' classic LEGO Blue is my absolute least favorite of the blues by far, so I'm just glad we have more alternatives.

I will just say there is WAY too many blues in lego.
I would bring back snd blue, because it does stand out from others.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

My personal top 8 shades of LEGO blue:

1. Classic Space (regular) blue!
2. Lego (Space) Trans(-dark) blue.
3. Sand blue (Life on Mars)
4. Dark blue (Galaxy Squad; Star Wars)
5. Trans-light blue (Alien Conquest; Galaxy Squad; Star Wars)
6. Dark Azure (Alien Conquest; Galaxy Squad)
7. Teal (Life on Mars)
8. Medium blue (Life on Mars)

I like my blues in Space, but it's obvious I choose the regular blue for this poll.
