Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 11
Posted by CapnRex101,Christmas trees are always a welcome addition to LEGO Advent Calendars, although the design from the Harry Potter calendar yesterday was an underwhelming example.
Today's item should prove better...
I do think this postbox improves upon yesterday's tree, albeit only marginally. The design could hardly be any simpler and somehow lacks the old-world charm of Hogsmeade, thanks in part to the light bluish grey colour. On the other hand, the printed envelope looks good and I like the owl, although even that could be better because this owl has appeared many times before, while others have only been available in one or two sets.
Overall - Despite including a couple of useful elements, this postbox is decidedly average.

Owls: the Battle Droids of Harry Potter ACs.
Birb.
So, the owls carry the letters only from the inbox to the receipient? I always thought they flew the whole way! That's so disenchanting!
I’d be disappointed that the owl isn’t actually carrying the letter if I didn’t already have a fleet of 20 owls rigged to do just that.
Turns out the one ring was just kept in its envelope and mailed into mount doom.
Everyone asks why they didn't use the eagles, but nobody asked about the owl post...

As you can see, you still need regular snail mail for the actual transport.
Imagine your average FedEx/UPS/DHL/Amazon delivery guy knocking on the portals of Barad-dûr...
@PurpleDave what you don't know: they just carry them to the nearest post office and take the rest of the time off, pretending they were on the way...
@jkb:
I always have a dark-orange owl about to fly right into a wall, as a tip of the hat to the Weasley’s owl. Now that there’s a brown one coming out, I may have to change that up.
Light bluish grey post box for Christmas!!! DULL, DULL, DULL!
One of the newer 'wings outstretched' Owls would have been a bit more exciting rather than the literal "Owl No.1"...
No.5, No,8, No.11 or No.16 would have been my preference.
Eh, hard to get excited over a grey box really
This feels like Lego IS trying to make some derogatory statement about the Owl Post.
Of course, the bland design of the traditional post box doesn't speak highly in its regard either. Looks abandoned.
My first impulse about this build was somewhat negative (especially after the lackluster shrinkflation tree). But, a nice animal with useful - albeit starkly bland- parts makes this an 'ok' Day.
