Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 7
Posted by CapnRex101,The last two days have introduced a Clone Turbo Tank and a Clone Trooper, hence I am expecting something else associated with the Clone army as the first week of this Advent Calendar comes to an end.
Find out after the break...
This tiny command centre is inspired by the Republic's forward command centre from Attack of the Clones, including a similar communications mast on the back and ramps on each side. The model is easily recognisable and its exaggerated proportions are appealing, still retaining some important features of the command centre onscreen.
I think the model looks even better with a Clone Trooper seated inside, where it becomes more of a throne than a command centre! In fact, the communication mast doubles perfectly as the back of a throne. The only change I would make is to add a clip to store the Clone Trooper's rifle, which would fit on the back.
Overall - Though unusual, I think the mini forward command centre is a fun model.

I remember someone saying this was gonna be the best build in the calendar
My kids, who have not seen the Clone Wars show or Episode 2, thought this was a sort of hover-chair for Omega. Command center makes more sense, but I'm going to let them keep thinking that.
Oh, gosh, I hated this.
When I saw this in the spoiler contents, I was pretty excited. It looked cute and accurate and I looked forward to building it and sticking the clone inside. And then I actually built it and...it's pretty mid.
There's a recurring problem in Star Wars Advent Calendars where chibi-vehicles end up being kind of half-assed. The micro bikes in 75056 and 75307 were pretty middling and I had to add a ton of kibble in order to get them looking useful.
The Clone Command Stations in 40558 and 75000 are both also very chibi, but at least look closer to the on-screen version (which is a pretty big vehicle). I would recommend adding more 1x2 or 1x4 curved bricks around the body of the Advent build to get it closer, and extending the side flaps with some additional curved plates.
Also, the colors are out of whack. The Clone Command station has maroon on the bottom with grey above it, not the other way around. I'm moving the 1x4 maroon brick to the bottom of the ship and putting another outward one above it.
Argh argh argh.
I have been waiting for the Brickset review all day to tell me what it is, as I did not have a clue!!!
Yeah, that was clear yeserday. What wasn't clear how strong the competition would be today:
5. HP cute, though
4. SW builds that AC-Minifigs can interact with, are actually a strong feature
3. City a lady wielding a hammer and a chainsaw is really, really impressive
2. Marvel That sweater is even more impressive
1. Friends a gecko! Look at its eyes! How couldn't it be No. 1?
So that's what it is! My thanks to CapnRex101 for informing me.
I really need to brush up on my Star Wars lore-sigh.............
"We've captured a command post!"
I think this is the largest AC model I’ve ever built (as measured by L+W+H), so it was a real challenge to do so without popping the bag.
That's the second day @CapnRex101 has stated the model is "instantly recognisable" and I've no idea what it is.

I should have learnt my lesson last year, when I described a microscale version of Ollivanders as 'instantly recognisable' in the Harry Potter Advent Calendar. Since that article has now had nearly 40,000 views, clearly not everyone felt the same!

Instantly Recognizable is a point of view Anakin...
But yeah, had I not owned 75000 I probably wouldn't have caught on to what it was. It's not obscure per se, but it's not really all that common to me.
Easy enough to recognize, though it's a little too squished to be practical I imagine. Practically more of a desk than a full command station. Decent enough for an advent build, though the progressively smaller renditions of the command post makes me want a full-fledged ~$30 set of the vehicle.
I did find some success with this finally being something halfway useful to fill the forward storage of the new Coruscant Gunship, though I expect it'll be quickly replaced with the 2024 battle pack components.

Congrats to CapnRex for bringing us full circle to wishing we had more weapons racks in an Advent calendar!!

Doh!
All this, and nary a word until now about how today’s LEGO AC reveals are the first from their bottom rows? Man, it’s like you folks don’t even *care* about AC item placement…

Why are the numbers like that? Why not just have 1-6, 7-12,etc?
Alright, I've been experimenting with this thing all day. I've added some more SNOT and curved bricks all over this thing, particularly some 1x2x2 SNOT bricks to the back and some slope bricks to those to get this thing looking more like 75000, if smaller. I'm happier with it. It's probably more bricks than would fit in a single Advent window, but it's more accurate (for a chibi) now.
@Shadowcloner:
It looks more like a target box.
“Sit here, and try not to get shot.”
*wedges into an adult high-chair that provides minimal cover, no flight controls, and restricts your ability to duck*
@Blondie_Wan:
Same pattern every year, same pattern every theme. I track the HPAC contents, and keep copying the same pattern file I created a few years ago. I don’t pull down the playmat, or open the doors, so I’m only working off the contents map in the file. Hasn’t failed me yet.
@AddictedToStyrene:
On a guess, hunting for the door adds a little suspense to the process. Also, they’re quite used to sorting everything into the trays in this order, and numbering the doors the same way every year, for every theme. Imagine the train wreck they’d have if someone tried to change it one year, and not everyone got the memo.
Pretty fun model, if a little too small to be useful.
@PurpleDave: They really should change the order around a little. By the time I'm opening doors 20 and 24 in the bottom row, they whole playmat area in front is full of little builds! Those doors belong higher up, and some earlier ones should go down there so they can be opened before they're obstructed.

"It kind of looks like an information-kiosk to me. I strongly suspect that this trooper wants to inform me, at length, about what is and what isn't canon to the SW-universe anymore.
And then charge me for the privilege."
Oh, no. It's free. You just don't notice all the energy he's drained from you in the meantime.
It's a good thing I have 40558, or (not having seen the CGI Clone Wars) I wouldn't have known what this is. Also, I like the variety of pieces, ranging from parts that have been around for decades like https://brickset.com/parts/design-4596 (okay, that particular mold is much more recent, but still) to much more recent designs.

It's actually from Ep. 2: Attack of Jango's Unbegotten Children.
All forward positions are advancing.
Very good.... Very good.

I’ve noticed! I don’t do every AC every year, but I “always” do SW (missed it one year) and sometimes do City and/or Friends, and even though the printing is obviously different each year and across themes, AFAICT they always put all 24 numbers in the same positions in each calendar and in each year.

In fairness, things are only recognizable, instantly or otherwise, to people who would recognize them at all.
I've been making some brickfilms with this Advent Calendar. Check them out if you want.
