Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 11
Posted by CapnRex101,I think yesterday's Hailfire Droid was perhaps my favourite model from this year's Advent Calendar so far, so I hope the excellent standard continues on day eleven.
Find out after the break...
Although the Hailfire Droid remains my favourite, this AAT is impressive too. The colour scheme of dark blue and light bluish grey looks marvellous, taking inspiration from the tank's Separatist livery during the Clone Wars. The proportions of the AAT appear accurate and I like the articulated laser cannons, which improve upon the similar AAT from 75146 Star Wars Advent Calendar. Even the recessed section at the front serves a purpose, approximating the tank's armour shape.
Overall - This microscale AAT is brilliantly detailed for its scale and I like the Clone Wars colour scheme.

It would seem like the cannon makes for a barely-legal connection; could have been avoided if the quad bracket brick and the respective bottom build were done upside down?
Genuinely, loved this day. The days keep getting better and better.
Best looking AAT in years.
Well, I liked the latest one with Ahsoka, but it's hardly accurate, albeit a nicely proportioned thing unto itself, but this little micro AAT looks fantastic.
Connect two to get an AAT-AAT.

The lightsaber hilt element on the turret does not actually conflict with the stud on the brick underneath at all, although it is close and the photo makes the gap look even smaller.

Or put the cannon one stud forward?

And ruin the distinctive feature of the vehicle? Surely you jest.
This narrowly avoids an illegal technique, since the black stud the SNOT connection is on top of doesn't have the LEGO logo. Just found that interesting.
Too much Sepratist micro builds for my likening these past few days! 3 builds for Clone Forces and now 5 for Sepratist scum!
So much for a fair and balanced approach!
This is another one where I want to see a Brickset retrospective on the evolution of Advent Calendar builds. The same craft was in the 2014 calendar (and in 2016, but different colors), but it's a fundamentally different model.
Very neat little model. I'm still not quite convinced by these bow pieces for the AAT's base, but the guns are a big improvement over the last one.
I had to start over multiple times before I was sure I was getting the build right. All that SNOT in such a small space. Once I got it right, though, I was impressed. As you say, it has some nice detail for a model of that size.

That's a neat idea, would be an interesting review
It's tiny, but at least it works well as a representation.

The base does seem rather wedge-shaped. I’m wondering if adding a pair of 1x3 plates to increase the width would improve the design.

See my retrospective in the comments last year: https://brickset.com/article/84505/star-wars-advent-calendar-day-24. I'll update this on Day 24.
I pulled out my 2016 Advent Calendar AAT from 75146 . They're actually fairly similar. Notable difference is that the bley gun turrets on the 2023 model didn't apparently exist in 2016, so they used those older "nozzle" pieces and a 1x4 rod on a 1x1 clip brick for the top turrett. I don't have a lot of use for the modern bley handle piece, but I have to admit that it makes for some useful greebles on microbuilds like this.
The AAT from 75056 is a way, way different model, though.
Mine seems more black than blue ?
Nice model.
These tanks seem imposing until you witness there easy destruction by hanging a Gungan off the cannon. Mere tissue paper forces.

It’s dark-blue. Maybe get it closer to a light source, if you’ve got dim or very yellow lighting. Also, I once diagnosed one of your countrywomen, over the internet, with colorblindness (which is extremely rare in women) using this exact shade of blue. She thought it was purple. After I informed her that it wasn’t, she checked with her kids. They also saw dark-blue. I don’t know if it was due to her being older than me, or being from the UK, but she’d never been tested for colorblindness, which is a very standard part of elementary school in the US.

All the better to impersonate a toy under the tree, or in a model toy-store!
Somehow there were two bags for this behind the door. Not a bad build to get a duplicate of!
Yesterday I just build my 8018.

News to me, but then, I went to a Christian private school until third grade, after which I was homeschooled. And this would have been in the '80s anyway.
@TheOtherMike:
I don’t know when testing became standard for elementary schools in the US, but they had certainly started before the early 80’s.
