The Mustang and the BMW looks cool, but I would never buy an Audi or a BMW.

Not in love with the FE car as much as I’d hoped. Fingers crossed for more F1 sets (RIP speed champions playsets and F1 garages)

Maybe you realized there is an Audi set too.

42179 Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit looks very intriguing!
Can't wait for the lengthy discussions of whether country X is precisely the right size and shape.

By in United States,

Not a fan of doing the flying car as a 6-wide vehicle. That one in particular really should have space for both Harry and Ron (at least) and if it's a standalone set there's really no reason it couldn't be 8-wide.

Neom branding on the technic sets is kind of gross. The controversies surrounding Neom don't seem to align with Lego's supposed values. "The Line" in particular is a poorly conceived vanity project - hopefully it doesn't show up as an architecture set this year...

By in Australia,

Normally I like to keep my set purchases to narrow themes ( physical space restrictions and too eclectic) but there are some sets that are pushing that.

The Space technic sets look awesome, in particular the 42179 Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit. The baby dinosaurs from 76963 , although not something I will purchase, but something that I find fun 71431 Bowser's Muscle Car and finally, just the two magical creatures in a small set from 76432 .

@drussell - I agree re: Neom.

Space themed Technic sets look very interesting. You don't see Sci-fi Technic sets all that often.

By in Norway,

I really, really like the new Harry Potter sets! They have such a cozy, exciting feeling about them. Perfect for young fans just getting into the books and movies. It was about time they made a new Hagrid's Hut, and having the Anglia as a separate set is a very good idea. Perfect set for birthdays and other gifts, and they won't need to keep including it in all sorts of other sets. I will just get the Boathouse (plain Hogwarts uniform battlepack) and the Owlery for myself, but I'm very happy these sets will be on the shelves. My only gripe is that when they finally made Fang, they made him brown and not gray! What gives?

By in United Arab Emirates,

While I like the general downsizing of sets (mostly for price -presumably these will be cheaper- and display space) in the Harry Potter range, that Boat House and accompanying boats need to be... at least 3 times bigger.
Are they boats for ants?

I guess I'll just need to buy multiples to build a decent sized addition to my Hogwarts, but I do like the look of these, except the 6 wide Ford.

A lot of nice sets, but can we please get a classic comic-style Electro for spidey to fight?

It looks like it can hold two figures side by side, it is possible in 6 wide cars like in 71006 and 76960.

VTOL rescue helicopter: *exists*

LEGO Corporate: We are deeply sorry for the war crime we’ve committed and are prepared to aid all families affected by this difficult time.

LEGO designers: *creates space VTOL (wink ;) wink)*

LEGO corporate: Alright just make sure it doesn’t have guns, propellers or any likeness to the Boeing military craft

Modders: ;^)

Honestly would like to see some decent vtol heli mods it’s it’s possible? Very funny to see the slight rerelease on this one though

By in Netherlands,

Those Space sets have to be some of the most un-Technic looking Technic sets ever. Somehow it reminds me of the Technic Arctic theme from the 80s. I do quite like them for their originality, and might even get the Orbit set, if I see it at a good discount, that is. Apparently it's gonna cost €80, and for that price I'd almost expect some kind of motor....considering Control+ elements are more expensive than their weight in gold, couldn't they have done something creative with the pullback motor maybe?

As for the other ones, the McLaren looks decent but is a stickerfest, so that's a hard pass. The Kawasaki seems like a rehash of the Ducati, but in this case that's not necessarily a bad thing. I feel it could have used a bit more green though. But I might actually get one too....again at a good discount because again €80 is just nuts.

Curious about the other sets that haven't been revealed yet, and I sure want that Perseverance polybag!

Mustang, Audi and the earth in orbit all look really good, BMW set less so but I always say this and end up getting them all anyway, despite diminishing shelf space...

Also, Lego can't seem to decide if Hogwarts has dark grey or sand green roofs.

By in Canada,

Schwerlastraumfrachter, Schwerlastraumfrachter, SCHWERLASTRAUMFRACHTER!
(42181 - could have been blue, grey and trans-yellow though)

42179 might be the set that make me use stickers for the first time in 30 years. From the pictures, it shows the position of earth and moon by the months. Not quite sure how long this will remain accurate with axial precessions (of the equator, of the ecliptic) and all but I suppose in our living years, it will be fine.

So far, 2024 promises to be a very expensive year. Good in a way, terrible in another.

woah! earth in orbit looks SO COOL, lego harry potter redeemed by a SORCEROR'S STONE ACCURATE HAGRIDS HUT and the insane Boathouse and oddly included ford anglia. Speed champions also looks great.

Unfortunately that downscaling is not reducing price by any means. They're as pricey as ever.

Space + Technic is exactly my jam! The odds are good that I'll pick up them all. At least if there is no Control+ nonsense involved.

That BMW looks like it has a face to me, with yellow eyes, 2 big nostrils and then teeth on the bottom :)

Hardly. There have been plenty of mechanical Solar System representations in the past, there'll be plenty in the future. All with basically the same idea.

By in United States,

I hope there's another wave of Speed Champions movie cars later in the year, because I think this wave is pretty disappointing. The price increase from $25 to $27 is annoying when inflation has been cooling and the cars haven't improved, and especially annoying since the 8w SC cars started at $20 in 2020. I was really looking forward to the Mustang, but it's a lot more of a brick than I hoped it would be, and I'm very disappointed to see that the distinctive Mustang taillights are stickers instead of brick-built. The BMW cars are absolutely plastered with stickers that'll be a huge pain to apply, and the most interesting thing in their bodywork is a couple of new slopes on the back of the single-seat racer that will surely show up in many other new 2024 sets. I should have expected that the electric Audi would be plastered with stickers too, but I don't see any new building solutions that would make it worthwhile to wade through the stickers. The curved slopes underneath the stickered headlights are nice, but it's a shame that they had to go back to stickered headlights with those. I'll wait for those parts to show up in another theme.

I'm not interested in the owlery, boathouse, or forest sets, but the hut and the car are fantastic. At first glance there isn't anything much to differentiate the car from the 2018 and 2020 versions, but the B pillar is different and it uses a full 6x6 tile for the roof. More importantly, they've redesigned the chassis to allow two minifigures to stand side by side in the car. The 2010, 2018, and 2020 versions weren't designed for that, and it was a non-trivial mod to allow that. I could squeeze two minifigures side by side in the 2018 and 2020 versions without modification, but it was a bad fit. So that's a real solid improvement. Hagrid's Hut is perfect. I like the way the roof is built and the way it lifts off, and I like the way the back quarters of the fully enclosed hut open. The furniture is all great, and the minifigure selection is really solid.

The VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship looks a bit like the aesthetic of the Alien universe or any number of video games. It's not my style, but I'm glad Technic is doing something new and unusual and conceptually creative.

The smaller rover with four wheels is a really cool upscaled Technic version of the old Life on Mars and Mars Mission three-wheeled rovers.

The big rover with six wheels is a really cool "Watney rover" with a good amount of functions and some nice interior and exterior detail. However, it's clearly going for form over function - the mechanical functionality is simple and limited.

The orrery looks very good. It's probably going to be the one Technic set I buy this year - I probably can't afford the big crewed Mars rover. I'm impressed by the printing on the Earth globe and I'm glad they tilted the axis of the Earth. However, it doesn't look like they managed to make the Earth spin as it goes around the Sun. I wonder how close the gear ratio between the movement of the Earth around the Sun and the movement of the Moon around the Earth is to the authentic 365/28 ~ 13:1 ratio?

I can't wait for pictures of the Space sets from City, Creator, and Friends. I hope they come out by tomorrow.

I think they did. Earth is connected to the grey universal joint and that has a small gear below it!

It's kind of odd how different the new Hagrid's Hut is from the previous one, and yet they both resemble what it looked like in the respective movies they are modeled after.

Where are we seeing a bulldog? Fang?

If Fang is based on the movies, it should be a neapolitan mastiff. I think sand yellow might have been a better choice, but hopefully we'll see the mould used elsewhere as well.

Thank you! Finally someone else mentions that they made Fang the wrong color.

They blatantly did the same thing with werewolf Lupin, as well as the infamous Hogwarts roof color too. I think someone on the HP team might genuinely be colorblind.

Excited that Technic is moving out of its ninety-percent-licensed-cars-and-construction-equipment phase. These space sets don't all look like winners, but I'm glad they're doing more creative things with the system than just mimicking real-world vehicles.

The Speed Champions sets look good as usual. I'm still surprised they didn't come up with a less-clumsy name for a theme with this much longevity, though.

And if we want to talk about hypocritical values...

I've designed a few dozen 6-wide cars, and almost all of them have side-by-side seating that can accommodate two unmodified minifigs in the front seat. Exceptions include stuff like Batmobiles, the Good Humor ice cream truck (which only has one seat), and the Nerd Herd car from NBC's Chuck (due to using the windshield pieces from 7119, there's not enough headroom for a whole minifig in the front seat). My Anglia design is about the same size as this, and besides Ron and Harry in the front seat, it has room for Hedwig, Harry's trunk, and Scabbers in the back seat.

Gravatar
By in Philippines,

It looks like there’s a new modular system for the Harry Potter sets.

Instead of connecting via technic pins to 1x2 bricks with holes, they’ll be using clips for this wave.

Notice also how they’re using Hogwarts Castle for the naming conventions of new Harry Potter sets. They’re not the usual Hogwarts: _________ labeling.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll be getting another version of the Great Hall and other sections of Hogwarts.
