31211 Macaw Parrots revealed!
Posted by Huw,
A Polish retailer has revealed an Art set that's due for release on January 1st.
31211 Macaw Parrots consists of a pair of two-dimensional birds that are designed to be displayed on a wall. What's particularly interesting about the 644-piece set is that it's labelled 'The fauna collection', which has not existed until now, so I think it's fair to assume it could be the first of many 18+ sets featuring animals.

Fascinating! Love this new direction for an Art set, and excited to see what comes of the rest of the Fauna collection.
Love the 80’s vibe from this. Even the woman in the photo is dressing as an 80’s parrot too.
Those don't look like macaws at all! The colors of the most well known macaws are so vibrant, and would work so well with Lego, I really was hoping they'd go for a more life-like version!

Use the instructions and your own pieces to build them better!

yes. Wow. This would be such a good fit for LEGO with red yellow and blue. Why the pastels?

Yeah people were calling LEGO out when this leaked. It's so odd. If they're set on the designs why not just not put Macaw in the name? Seems easy enough.
Guessing the rumoured Kingfisher will come up under Fauna too.
Agree these are very 80s with the pastels but I dig it. I can see these on an arty persons’ wall for sure.
LEGO is getting so good at real-life mimicry that they are now blatant in parroting.
Lego really hates realistic colours don't they?
While I understand maybe making a building slightly less monochromatic than real life, why do they need to mess with already brightly coloured and interesting animals??? They did it with the parrot recolour, and now these macaws....
I don't know why, it's nothing huge, but I'm especially impressed by the fact that they actually went for differently dimensioned wings on the pink one, giving it just that bit more perspective.

I'd assume they tested the colours on the target audience, and settled on that palette because those colours are in style atm. Not my cup of tea either, but personally I'm fine with it, it's supposed to be a piece of decoration or art, not a scientific model. Like these weird golden pineapples that were a thing a few years back, I guess. If it brings more people to the hobby, good enough for me.
Luckily, the pieces seem pretty basic, so it shouldn't be too difficult to source them in other colours (especially primary colours) for everyone who'd want their own set of parrots to be more realistic.
While I'm not entirely sold on this particular set, I do like the concept. That said.....you will get holes all over your walls like this...

How does a modern parrot dress?
Dang. When I saw the cover image I couldn't even tell it was LEGO. It actually looks kinda cool!
Cuuuuuuute! I really love these! Super vaporwave vibes.

Much more stylish than an 80’s one.
Beautiful plumage!
Though the yellow one appears to be pining for the fjords...

Double sided tape, like the 3M hooks that you pull the tab and it comes off the wall without damaging :)
They’re pretty big. I like the colors (real life versions would be less appealing for a wall ornament like this i think). Won’t buy it, but i can see some happy builders with this set
Nice concept, but I have no more room in my house and wallet for a new theme :)
The pink one would make a good galah if done with LBG wings and a grey beak. I guess they were done with monochromatic bodies as the designs are too blocky to create realistic looking birds if done in multiple colours.
I like the colors, they fit the aesthetic really well. Muted colors will work better in most "normal" rooms (as opposed to lego rooms) imo
Next year's release LEGO ART Wallpaper consisting of 10 giant Sticker Sheets for only $ 54.99. :)
Great. And when are we getting a rechargeable Powered Up hub?
I think that's the reason why Lego didn't approve the whale in Ideas, they are doing its own fauna collection
I like these, especially the colour of the cool yellow one and the pose of the pink and teal one. At first glance I thought they were all done with tiles, but they are sideways builds, so they'll be more substantial than doing tiles. I look forward to hanging them in either my Lego room or in my office at work. Thanks for the images!
These are really striking! A whole line of exotic animal silhouettes is likely to follow since these are the start of a "collection".
These would be awesome...if they looked like parrots at all.
They don't.
They look like parakeets.
So it's a skip for me. I like parrots. I don't care for parakeets.

What?
All I could think of when seeing the photographs was the movie Dumb and Dumber. "Pretty bird, pretty bird."
Amazing! interesting color chioces

Sorry for the confusion. What I meant is that by the evolution of LEGO ART we'll get even less depth and just 2D stickers in 2025.

I was thinking the same. I don't even care that the colors are off, since they're an artistic representation, but they just don't look like the animals mentioned on the box. Regardless, they do look pretty for what they are.

But this has way more depth than Art started out with. It began as 2D mosaics and now has several things that are beyond 2D. Why would they suddenly reverse that?
I can take or leave the birds (although I'd prefer to take them, should my wallet permit me) but the branch the yellow one is sitting on/eating/whatever is great! (Yeah, well, I'm also an expert on the background flora and scenery in Audubon prints.)
Looking at these makes the Miami Vice theme song go through my head. I like it.

It does seem to be nailed to its perch...
