New collection of GWPs revealed!

Micro NINJAGO City

Micro NINJAGO City

©2024 LEGO Group

A collection of four miniature versions of the Ninjago City sets has been revealed in China.

It's believed they will be GWPs offered at various times during the year, like last year's Houses of the World collection. I suspect that the spend threshold will be high, though, like it was for the houses.

The box of 40703 Micro Ninjago City is the only one to be fully revealed at the moment. It shows that one on the front and the silhouettes of the others on the back, which you can see after the break.

Are you looking forward to collecting them?

High GWP Threshold...Boo :(

I liked the Houses of the World but forego trying to get these due to the high threshold.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looking at the last image, for a split second I thought 70620 was being reissued and almost had a heart attack. Still kicking myself for not having bought it when it was out.

These are really neat GWPs though!

"Boat does not float."
The final words of the captain of The Titanic.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For some reason seeing "boat does not float" on that tiny little two-piece boat is hilarious.

Anyway, as a longtime Ninjago City collector I'm definitely looking forward to these!

Gravatar
By in Norway,

I. don`t. need. them. (Please repeat after me)

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's a deceptively large number and variety of parts for each of these, it looks like.

lol.

By in Germany,

I don't get the point: The price threshold on recent GWPs was so high that I preferred not to buy at Lego.com. Instead I went for the 30% discount at a retailer or online shop.
Houses of the World I is the only one that I got but it didn't trigger anything to go for no II, III, or IV (https://brickset.com/sets/subtheme-Houses-of-the-World).
To me there is little attraction from Houses of the world or these tiny Ninjago sets.
Even 40586 seemed to be worth it's "price"

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why can’t it just be a retail set?! These are so good!!

Are you sure the boat doesn’t float?

We here in the U.S. don’t have access to as many of those discounts, especially on exclusive sets. As such, it’s GWP or 2x points.

By in United States,

As a Chima fan (obvie) I'm really not interested in these

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh for bricks sake... Another line of desirable GWPs behind a high paywall.

Wait, I just described LEGO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Whew, I think I just dodged an expensive year!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As with Houses of the World, I can see I'll probably be buying them on the secondary market.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gonna put a hot take out there - I don't like it. Ninjago City was a masterpiece of a set, but because it was so varied and detailed it just doesn't scale down well - at all. To me, it honestly just looks like the entire contents of a small Classic set just stacked on top of each other in a completely random fashion. Would be interested to know if I'm alone in thinking this, or if anyone actually agrees?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Aren't these type of miniature buildings usually only available in Asia? Like the mini collection of modulars?

I have a large list of gwp saved searches on eBay awaiting purchases. If they're interesting, they'll get added to the list, otherwise no.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally, Ninjago City sets that I can afford to buy secondhand.

10230 was available outside of Asia.

By in New Zealand,

"boat does not float" i'm going to try to prove Lego wrong by conducting an experiment. in my pool. so i did it with the two pieces and yes it does float. Quite well actually even if you push down on it. The only problem is it rolls on its side, so watch out citizens of Ninjago city!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The run of micro sets will look good in front of my larger ones.
They did the same thing at one point with Toys'R'Us and the Modular Creator sets up to a point. so I am happy to see the idea make a return.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These look neat, but thankfully I don't need them. I almost bought the larger sets back when they had sales, but LEGO canceled my order, so I never felt the need to buy any others.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't wait for those prices on eBay!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice but I don’t think I’m interested.., was hoping for Houses of the World 5 to 8, maybe next year!?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I liked the Houses of the World freebies and got them all. I have never bought a Ninjago set so have no particular interest in these, even though they do took pretty good.

However, as I still have several £250+ Lego exclusives waiting on my wishlist, I may end up getting these by default.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not a Ninjago fan so these are not a must have for me. I only ended up with one of the Houses of the World series last year but not the one I liked the most. With the high spend threshold on these GWP's I'm getting more selective which ones I'm willing to spend rrp on sets to qualify for. I'll be waiting for something else that appeals to me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No, I (almost certainly) won't be collecting these. I'm trying to wean myself off more brand-new Lego (I have enough to keep building for the rest of my life) and I have all the Ninjago City sets I want. Besides, the miniature versions just aren't very good representations of what makes the "real" sets so special.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, I will require & acquire them all!!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Won't get me to buy overpriced stuff directly from Lego, but this sure looks a hell of a lot better than those Houses of the World!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Having got all four main sets (two still to build) I could see me trying to get these as well, but I suspect on the secondary market rather than as GWPs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just offer these for sale. I like them but if they are 250 spend like the houses of the world not worth the grand spend.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Happily (or tragically), I love this idea, and luckily (or unluckily) I like to buy Monkie Kid sets that are only available to me via Lego.com. It's the perfect (or disastrous) situation!

It's rare for me to really want the GWPs, but in this case I'll want all four (and five and six and seven...)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Interesting that's it in the Ninjago theme rather than The Lego Ninjago Movie.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cute, but unless they have a super reasonable target price I'll just buy 'em later on the secondary market. Even then it'll be cheaper than buying several sets (or a huge one) that probably won't get built for a longish time.

We don't really have access to discounts in Canada either, at least not in my part of the country. Plus, I will do everything I can not to buy from Amazon. Thus, I get 90% of the LEGO sets I buy from LEGO shop @home directly. That said, I sell 90% of the GWP I get, so I can get some of my money back.

I'm extremely interested in these four, that said. Looking forward for the threshold...

The Ninjago City sets switched from TLNM branding to regular old Ninjago with the Gardens. That set has a number of characters and references from the show.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would love to have these, but I'm not going to get them either as GWPs or on the secondary market. If they were retail, I would consider it. Although the scaling between Ninjago City and the Gardens look off. I also have none of the modulars which makes things easier.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I'll prefer to save my money for the next actual Ninjago City set rumoured to be the Apartments coming out in 2025.

Gravatar

These look nice. If I can find them at an affordable price I'll try to collect them.

A second chance that takes up less space.

To a point. Super 7 made a change to one of their pre-order figures after 'hearing' the protests. I guess there weren't many pre-orders for it.

By the time Lego sets are officially presented protesting will not help.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Id rather they just did more Mini Modulars like 10230 to be honest. And just make it a set I can buy instead of being greedy with insane thresholds. Some of the GWP sets are nicer than sets available to buy, sadly.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Let's hope they don't include any exclusive pieces and us mortals will be able to buy them after getting the instructions!

Just checked if the instructions for 40594 are available - they are.
The only exclusive thing about the set seems to be the stickers, but I don't see any (on the front at least) on 40703.

I don't care about the boxes of GWPs since I'd like to display them anyway, so fingers crossed!

Must be some kind of legal disclaimer. I didnt see Does not fly on my concorde model, Engines do not work, Do not attempt to sit on seats, do not operate at 60,000ft, not supersonic etc.

Just saw on another site that they would be an Insider Reward worth 6,500 point a each. I hope this is a joke…

And here I was thinking a 250 spend was too much. Lego says let's make it a grand each.

I doubt it's a joke, but it might be specific to China. Insider points don't work at Chinese retail stores, so they have less utility. It might make sense to use them for a GWP.

I am very skeptical that this would be the case in other markets. Many insider programs will feature points exclusives, but they will also sell points directly to allow customers to cover the difference in the balance. That's a revenue generation scheme. Lego doesn't offer that, and it takes time for points to accrue from purchases, so I don't think high point value exclusive rewards makes sense for Lego.

It would be interesting to have these as models in a Master Wu Ninjago Dojo or Ninjago Clubhouse MOC.
High Speding Threshold sounds bad to me....

I might have to pick them up on the secondary market .....

Considering the boat is made out of two pieces, I believe it WOULD actually float (just not the right way up)

Waiting for the re-release of 70620. If LEGO can pull themselves away from this week’s redesign of a tired SW vehicle, 70620 would go down very well.

For the most part, the U.S. lost discounts on exclusives more than 10 years ago. It got worse when Toys R Us shuttered. I once split a pair of BOGO modulars with another Brickset member. :o)

We can occasionally find a clearance reduction like with the Razor Crest but not often.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

IMHO it will be one of those cases when box looks great, but set after build doesn't.
Why? Because lack of base (yes, sometimes lego put too many pieces into base - agree, but not making any base will make those models look cheap.

House of the world had ridiculous threshold (non license sets without minifigs!!!) if here will be similar I will consider it as insulting AFOL's again (after X-Men plane price).

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

For someone who doesn’t have the space for modulars, I’m liking the direction they’re taking…not so much for the price to get them though…

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Looking forward to collecting them? Well, I will be if the spend threshold isn't so high as to make them unattainable for me. If that's the case, then the aftermarket going rate will likely be more than I can stomach as well.

If you knock all of the air bubbles out of the parts, and then assemble them underwater, I think you'll find it will sink quite quickly. Or if you leave it in the water long enough, the air bubbles will dissolve into the water, and it will sink. I once built an entire Pirate ship (excluding the sails) underwater like this, because I wanted to use it as a decoration in a fishtank, and the air bubbles were enough to keep it from sinking. Once they were gone, the only parts that floated were those made of polyethylene, which was basically limited to the sabers. This actually resulted in a rather cool effect, as I had it crewed with old floppy-arm skeletons, so the sabers caused their sword arms to wave in the currents.

That's a great idea. The Silent Mary, 71042 would look amazing in a fish tank.

It would need to be a _large_ tank. I put 6250 in a 20gal tank, and that's about the limit of what I could get away with. My dorm at college had a 100gal tank, and even that might not have been big enough because it was long more than tall.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

I'm not interested on the box because I recycle them so.. exchanging a large amount of insider points won't be worth it for me. However I can't wait to have the parts list as I probably have most, if not all, of the pices to build this :)

Gravatar
By in Spain,

I got pictures of 40703's parts list, made a bricklink wanted list with it and exported it as XML so others can import it into the wanted list; here it is in case someone wants to start gathering the parts to build it from scratch :)

https://pastebin.com/qW9wBszc

Keep in mind this list doesn't include extra pieces; it's only the 339 parts of the build.
