Star Wars 25th anniversary range revealed!

Posted by ,

After a couple of sets were revealed early over the weekend, several sets celebrating the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars have today been officially revealed! The press release follows:

The LEGO Star Wars Collaboration Turns 25 With a Year-Long Celebration

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars collaboration between the LEGO Group and Lucasfilm with a year-long celebration announced by the LEGO Group, befitting this relationship milestone and honouring LEGO Star Wars fans across the galaxy.

Today, the LEGO Group is kicking off the anniversary festivities at the Spielwarenmesse, otherwise known as Nuremberg Toy Fair, in Germany, with new anniversary products now available for pre-order. Additionally, the LEGO Group announced the LEGO Star Wars 25-Second Film Festival, which will kick off in March as part of the celebrations.

First revealed at the International Toy Fair in New York in 1999, the LEGO Star Wars collaboration marks its 25-year milestone at the Spielwarenmesse with a selection of 25th anniversary LEGO Star Wars building sets, launching March 1st. These include a new Starship Collection line featuring brand-new builds inspired by the Millennium Falcon and the Invisible Hand starships; not one but two building sets inspired by the Tantive IV ship; and a special 25th anniversary edition building set honouring R2-D2. Some sets will include collectable minifigures never seen before in LEGO form or anniversary tiles, marking the special occasion.

At the LEGO booth at the Spielwarenmesse is a brand-new LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary logo featuring a LEGO recreation of the lovable droid, R2-D2. Visitors will also find a 1:1 LEGO brick build inspired by R2-D2 made from 27,797 LEGO elements. The R2-D2 life-size build will travel across Europe and the U.S. throughout 2024.

“The LEGO Star Wars collaboration has enjoyed a most impressive 25 years with products, video games, animated content, big builds, merchandise, and more! We want to celebrate all those years and milestones with everyone who helped us get here, but especially with the fan community, as we would never be where we are today without their creativity and passion," says Mike Mike Ilacqua, Head of Product at the LEGO Group.

On March 1st, the LEGO Group will kick off the LEGO Star Wars 25-Second Film Festival, inviting fans around the world to submit their own 25-second film that recreates their favourite Star Wars moments or forges a new one with LEGO Star Wars building sets and minifigures they treasure.

“It’s been 25 years of true fun combining Lucasfilm’s expansive Star Wars galaxy with the ingenuity of the LEGO Group, offering fans exciting ways to recreate their favourite scenes, vehicles and characters from our stories,” said Paul Southern, Senior Vice President, Lucasfilm Franchise and Licensing, Disney Experiences. “With the enthusiasm of our fans to engage with the Star Wars galaxy and express creativity through building, we look forward to continuing the legacy of fun for decades to come.”

Throughout 2024, the LEGO Star Wars team plans to celebrate with fans front and centre of it all and a couple of fans have already shared what makes the LEGO Star Wars relationship so special to them:

  • “I’ve had the pleasure of being part of the LEGO Star Wars fan community for 16 years. Known for my LEGO Star Wars diorama builds, I’ve recently been working on a build inspired by the planet Geonosis for the past year. It’s my largest to-date at over 10ft long and features 150K+ LEGO elements, including my favourite set of all time - the LEGO Star Wars Republic Dropship with AT-OT Walker (10195) building set.” - David Hall (YouTube – Solid Brix Studios)
  • “I have loved Star Wars my entire adult life. It is what kickstarted my LEGO journey. Star Wars tells stories of hope and of good persevering. It’s incredible to see that same storytelling come alive via LEGO Star Wars bricks.” - Jean V (Instagram, @Jeansversion)

Additional product releases tied to the 25th anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars collaboration include an updated edition of DK's LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary, which comes with an exclusive new minifigure. It’s currently available for pre-order and will be released in April 2024.

More opportunities to celebrate will come throughout the year as the LEGO Group joins forces with their fan community to spotlight their creativity and passion for LEGO Star Wars.

The new LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary sets are available for pre-order now via www.LEGO.com/star-wars and otherwise available from March 1, 2024, via LEGO stores, LEGO.com and from select leading retailers around the world.

By in Portugal,

I'll get the diorama

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They all look pretty good. I particularly like that small MF.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Wowee, what great sets! Although I’m still getting my head around the current pricing structure… the A$ Falcon price: yikes!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm really liking those midi-scale models, as they're the perfect size to display on a regular sized bookshelf (e.g. in a study or den). While the UCS models are undoubtedly amazing, they're just too big to display comfortably.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

no, no, no, no and no?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't wait to get the Tantive IV diorama, and make a display with the 2019 Tantive IV!

And the midi-scale Invisible Hand looks amazing! Though, I haven't yet decided if I want to begin collecting the midi-scale sets.

By the way, I can't find the new sets on LEGO.com. Are they only available in certain countries right now?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've been waiting so long for an Invisible Hand! I saw elsewhere it actually splits in two.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the MF and the T4, I might get the MF on discount. I'm curious as to if it's a bit like the UCS MF and comes with parts to create different 'versions' of the ship or if it's only that one particular look.

It's a little odd to me that they don't come with minifigs like the two other sets, I can only assume there'll be more sets coming that have the figs.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

R2 is a nice set except for the middle leg attachment which looks a tad feeble.

Gravatar
By in Japan,

The other two midi-scale models have gotten UCS sets in the past, perhaps the Invisible Hand will get one in the future? Probably based on how well this set and the UCS Venator sell. I do think an Invisible Hand set would be best if it had a full interior, which because it doesn’t have “wings” like the Star Destroyers, might be more possible.

The midi-scale looks cool. I wasn’t so sure of the proportions at first but it’s growing on me. I appreciate the 1 x 2 grill on the right side of the stand, will be easy to remove and place down a Grievous minifig for display.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Millennium Falcon: Looks great but engine parts at the front look a bit too small and it therefore looks a bit stocky?

Tantive IV: Had high hopes for this but just looks a bit bland and non descript.

Invisible Hand: Not a ship I know a lot about or have much interest in but looks to be pretty good.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Those bases on the midi-scale ships seem to use a fair few pieces, but they do look nice.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Huh, figured they’d all have special anniversary figures, guess the budget only stretched to two!

It is quite cute. Thinking about getting it myself.

Not in the Swedish shop neither. Maybe 'available now' just means 'in the very near future'? :)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

As a Star Wars fan who started buying the sets in 2001 (7127 AT-ST: Chewbacca in Lego form drew me in), I unfortunately am really not very impressed by this selection of anniversary sets. Hopefully the UCS sets released this year will enthouse me a bit more. Especially the thought of a UCS Jabba's Sail Barge is still very exciting!

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

How is the Falcon $85USD and $150AUD but the Tantive IV is $80USD and only $100AUD? Strange. Wonder if its an error?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I do love Me a Millennium falcon if I do say so myself! I'd pick them all up but that's my Favourite,

I wanna see the rest of the 2024 star wars sets now because I've heard Admiral Thrawn is coming back!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Midi scale is back with a vengeance! I knew it would be vindicated some day... Now where's my Venator?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I do still quite like the R2, but it feels a bit pricey (and I still hate those stickers....). But certainly one to get at a good discount.

And I love seeing more of those smaller models. While I like Star Wars but I'm not such a fan that I want a house full of big models, let alone the huge UCS ones. The MF looks a bit stubby though, I feel the front should have been a bit sleeker. And the price doesn't feel that great either.

And kinda surprised only two got a special minifig. Must be some weird reasoning behind it. And I still stand by my point that I would have preferred R2 without that minifig but with prints instead of those stickers....

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I really like midi-scale, but I've already got several Millennium Falcon sets, so don't need another. Therefore I'll pass. I've also already got the last "UCS" R2-D2, so no need there either. And the others, while certainly nice looking, feel too expensive to me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are quite nice. Prices are high, but at least not outrageous. The midis are good. The figs are nice, but they should put boots on the Rebels and a kama on Fives. Malak is cool. Fun stuff. Need more.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

That Falcon is pretty much the same size as 7778 but with 2.5x the piece count. There's something about the shape or proportions that feels wrong but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Tantive looks nice, but I couldn't care less about that invisible hand.
All are a nice size to display in a very full house...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hate that the Invisible hand has a tile placed in a clip for the important detail of the bridge, I'll have to modify that, but finally! It's also kind of the perfect size I'd need for my Invasion of Coruscant display. It's also the only set that interests me. While the Falcon and Tantive IV are nice, I've already got a Midi Falcon (I won't deny this one blows it out of the water), and I just don't have space for much else like the Tantive. If this were 15 years ago and they were continuing the Midi line from 2009, I'd have probably snatched up everything, but it's just not feasible anymore despite how reasonable those prices actually are.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I for one am overjoyed that Midi-Scale is back, since space is at a premium in my flat and I don't want to pay for UCS sets anyway. The only thing is that I still have my OG midi Millennium Falcon in pretty good condition. Might still cop the new one though

I'm also super excited for Fives. One of the best Clone Wars characters and the fig looks great!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I quite like midi-scale, but only for the ships I reeaaallllly like. I already own a Millennium Falcon in every scale, so I'll pass on the new one. I will get the Tantive, although it did somehow disappoint somewhat (the cockpit thingies seem a bit small). It is a good excuse to build the bigger one again. though. Diorama's are a pass. The R2-D2 seems nicely scaled as a buddy for Wall-E!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the MF and think it would look good displayed in the case next to my UCS MF so might get that when it is reduced in Smyths (as all these SW sets soon are).

The Tantive IV ship and diorama would also make a good display together.

I had to look up what the Invisible Hand was. Meh.

And the R2-D2 seems unnecessary.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

These will be great for investing har har.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@DoonsterBuildsLego said:
"They all look pretty good. I particularly like that small MF. "

Best description of R2-D2 I've ever heard.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I saw pictures of the Millenium Falcon and Tantive IV on social media yesterday and I was enthousiastic, but now I see the price, and my reaction is: never mind. € 85 and € 80 for a small display set with a lot of 1x1/1x2/2x2 plates... I'm prepared to pay for a good set, but that's about € 20 to expensive.

I really like the R2D2 set, but probably going to wait for a decent discount there too.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

The ships are amazing, i might buy them after a long time out of star wars theme

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Look I'm really keen, especially for the Tantive IV, I reckon I've been saying for close to 20 years that if they make a mini- or midi-scale one I'd buy it. I am not jazzed about the prices though! The prices are bad for these sets by any metric; price/piece AND relative to "amount-of-thing" when model is complete. I really don't understand it!

Gravatar

@ShinyBidoof said:

Never seen Episode III, then?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Sorry, HOW MUCH for the Diorama???

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm a bit underwhelmed to tell the truth, I might buy the diorama for the minifigs but that will be it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Do we know what the minifig for the book is yet?

Tantive IV is a day one purchase easily, Invisible Hand a maybe, really don't need another Millennium Falcon though.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Turn that Invisible Hand upside down and it would make a good pew pew gun

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The falcon looks like it could scale well with 75329 trench run

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Why no one exclusive mini figures with the ships though ?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the microscale ships, I can see Lego launching all the collectibles range on that scale at some point.

I'm not going to get any of them though. I'm fan but I'm waiting for the episode I diorama. I hope they do more, though I would appreciate some other scenes than what they produced so far.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I agree with other comments about the pricing. It's getting out of hand, it really is. £70+ for a diorama without even the sweetener of an exclusive anniversary mini-figure is really taking the pee IMHO...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The MF is more detailed than 7778 and that shows with the much bigger price tag.

Surprised midi-scale don't have the special minifigures in them, but perhaps they're only doing those to get people the repetitive sets like R2?

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Invisible Hand, and Fives alongside Malak should have been in sets suiting their timeline.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Yawn.. boring..

Gravatar
By in United States,

the invisible hand looks so good. not so sure about the other ones though.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

It's very tempting that Millenium Falcon. R2-D2 maybe

Gravatar
By in Austria,

NEW PIECES HELL YEAH

not buying any of those sets probably. Malak on Bricklink, and the new parts on PAB later.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

That's waaaay to expensive, most are even hard to justify at 30%.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Always wanted a midi-scale Falcon. Now I can. And maybe a Tantive 4 as well, so they all can go with the SSD I already have. They'll fit nicely on my shelves.

Can't comment on The Invisible Hand - that ship (and the appearances it made in Ep 3) didn't really make an impression. But I hope those who want it like this rendition.

I don't collect dioramas or odd scale droids. Interesting prices around the world on all of these though!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

want those

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm loving all of these Midi sets! And if this is what they're releasing in March, I'm rather curious what they're saving for May.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Prices are whats putting my off pretty much all of these. The PPP may be good for some of them, but its not a reliable measure anymore when alot of the pieces are single studs and other small parts.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

What the heck are those prices? I might get the R2-D2 for both the build and Malak, but the midi-scale sets aren't my thing and I'll only get the hallway on a very generous discount.

I will definitely get the Visual Dictionary though, just for old time's sake (even though the last one was a bit bare).

Gravatar
By in United States,

This just furthers my opinion that they brought space back cause of Star Wars going fully to a collector based theme like plants or architecture. Also, that diorama should have a base like all the other ones! don't try and tell me with that price that this set would be for kids

Gravatar
By in United States,

I must have them all, these are absolutely amazing. Yes, even the new large scale R2-D2, mostly because I have to get that Darth Malek figure. But I think I’m most excited for the mini Tantive IV and Invisible Hand! I can’t wait to see what the rest of the lineup will bring.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Will need to see the sets in person i.e. in a LEGO store but would get the midi scale MF (I also have the previous one, this looks better) and potentially the R2-D2.

I saw it in the cinema when it was released back in the day, but found it so forgettable that I have not watched it a second time since. Can't recall much from the experience, and this ship doesn't ring a bell either. Neither does the name of it. Was the name even mentioned in the movie?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love when a press release refers to sponsored LAN members as “fans.” Very transparent and cool.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

For those interested in R2 and the boarding scene but not in Fives and Malak, there will be a bunch of us who will buy both sets, get both figs and resell the almost completely sealed sets on Bricklink at a discount. Might be a good way to save a few bucks and get exactly what you want.

I like the other three as well. I collect MF and I’ll get that one despite owning the other midi scale MF. I don’t think I will get the other two however. Maybe at a discount somewhere down the line.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Hardly remembered the Invisible Hand either, and certainly not the name. But it had its moments.

I do wonder if it has a special conversion feature to match it's most memorable moment:
"We lost something."
- "Not to worry, we are still flying half a ship!"

Star Wars ships’ names are seldom mentioned in film or series. Unless I’m mistaken, no one ever said “Tentative IV” or “AT-AT”.

Gravatar

I already have 7778, so no need to get another.

The Tantive IV is a possibility, at a lower price.

One of my starkest “oh damn I’m actually getting old” moments was realising that there are people who actually like the prequels unironically.

Gravatar
By in United States,

no, no, yes, no, yes
falcon is overpriced
proportions on the tantive cockpit are off
invisible hand is pure perfection
r2 is a great set but I just am not ready to spend 100 dollars on it
tantive hallway has great figures and a good build

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really like the Falcon! Looks great at that size. The Invisible Hand is good, but it has too many colors though.

It's the one crawling with Vulture Droids.

When he was just starting school, my son watched Episode 3 on repeat for quite a while. Let me tell you, I scope out the high ground whenever he comes around with that Sith look in his eyes. It's always good to be up high when you yell at them about how much you used to love them.

Gravatar

I'll be getting the R2-D2 as it will pair nicely with the forthcoming C-3P0. Other than that I'll be waiting for the UCS Jabba's Sail Barge.

That C-3PO was a fake. Somebody's MOC taken and slapped on a box via photoshop.

Gravatar

The original midi scale Falcon was £35. Not sure a basic stand and a branded brick justifies doubling the price

the image you saw was a moc, but that doesnt mean the leak itself is fake; there should still be a c-3po coming later this year

Still shocked that jamming a tile into a clip (Invisible Hand's front bridge) is considered legal and safe enough a connection for official products

Cool! I just saw Tiago Catarino even already has a video showing the feature.
(Does this mean you guys also already have received the sets for review?)

Now if only it had included a sound brick ;-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish the Tantive 4 scene was fleshed out as part of the diorama line...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The price jump between the invisible hand & the Tantive IV is brutal. I was hoping to get a Tantive IV because because they playscale one is so expensive on the aftermarket, but at a 100$ (I'm canadian) price point I feel it'll be hard to justify on release day.

The other thing that makes me sad is how this wave only has one playset & it's already pretty steep. I know this wave's more targeted at AFOL, but its a bummer there's not more affordable models being designed and released.

I really hope that this is not the whole 25th star wars range. 3/5 of the sets don't even have minifigures

Gravatar

Anyone else hear that? It's my wallet crying.

Also when are we going to be getting the reviews? Just wondering.

Gravatar

The exclusive figures seem really random… the 20th anniversary figures at least made sense seeing how they were old figures remade. These aren’t even figures we’ve gotten before, not that it’s a bad thing but i think they should have stuck with the replica figures.

Also these prices are ridiculously high.

Good stuff but display sets only, sadly. As a big fan of Ep3, I think the Invisible Hand turned out great. Mid scale seems to be the way to go.

These prices are getting out of hand! For example, Tantive IV has 654 bricks, and costs $80. Invisible Hand is 557 bricks, yet is $50. Ninety-seven more bricks equals $30 more? That is highway robbery for BOTH sets. Plain and simple.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

They were supposed to be available this morning, but it seems there is a delay. We will update this article or publish a separate one when they are available.

I have seen that before (not the whole show though), I guess big difference is that they still have level ground versus an incline. Which makes a lot of difference in how you move.

It obviously also doesn't help when the lower ground is lava....

I'll get the diorama and probably try to Bricklink the Darth Makek minifigure as for the rest no thanks.

Yes the leaked photos do show that the LEGO model DOES split in half. Nice little feature to include for the set!

It does!"

Cool! I just saw Tiago Catarino even already has a video showing the feature.
(Does this mean you guys also already have received the sets for review?)

Now if only it had included a sound brick ;-)"

Sound bricks in all these LEGO SW anniversary sets would be great, but I’m afraid they would put the prices up too much.

LEGO should consider making set specific sound bricks available separately so that if you’re buying from a LEGO store or on Shop-at-Home you can add the sound brick as an extra (or just get them on their own for MOCing).

I agree. Why is the Millennium Falcon cheaper in Canada than in the US? I would expect the prices to be reversed, as the Canadian Dollar is worth less than the US Dollar.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Duq:
New Falcon looks two studs wider than the old one, but the mandibles are one stud shorter.

@eiffel006:
Absolutely, nobody ever said “Tentative IV”. At least not in the original version, that is. Maybe in a spoof, like Star Wreck, with the Endocrine and the other Endocrine.

@FlyerBeast:
Tile between studs is fine. Plate between studs is forbidden. Plates are thicker, plus the studs prevent it from seating properly.

I'll pop for the diorama for sure...the other sets are just not interesting enough for me and/or don't fit into my builds. If i can find the Darth Malak minifigure cheap enough on its own I'll get him but he's not a 'must-have'.

It's Lego. It was always going to split in half.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I gotta admit, there's something a bit sad seeing that the 25th anniversary sets are all about display for collectors and not at all about play for kids. Yeah LEGO knows their target market, yeah they look cool, yeah people will buy them, blah blah blah, but it feels like there's been this silent and unacknowledged shift in the series. Then again, it's not really a surprise. More and more kids have checked out of Star Wars, the prices of sets keep going up (be it Denmark or the Mouse or some unholy union of the two), and the repeated emphasis on revisiting the few parts of the fan base that everyone agrees are wonderful all contribute to this transition.

Considering the 10th anniversary Endor playset and the 20th anniversary playsets, this is a somewhat sad yet seemingly inevitable turning of the page.

Why is it sad? Kids don't care that it is 25 years since LEGO started making SW sets so they can continue buying regular SW sets without the anniversary badge. Whereas people that were kids at the time (or older) are more likely to care about the anniversary and reminisce about those first sets.

Under the circumstances (1/557), I think the Force and ability to build/pilot this thing is irrelevant.

Strap yourselves in.

Open all hatches. Extend all flaps and dragfins. (There are no remaining flaps or fins).

Prepare to smash this MF to the floor.

We lost something.

I don't think you understood the comment. The sad part is how the 25th anniversary is marked by display pieces and no playsets - the trend that LEGO Star Wars is tending towards these days. It's symptomatic, but it is what it is, and it is another marker in the trend.

i don't see how that is sad, the 25th anniversary sets are aimed at people who were kids when lego star wars first started, so they made collectors sets because those people are now adults and adults often like to buy collectables.

Agreed, they are both not "classic" AND not related to the sets they come in.

By in United States,

Five fabulous kits here. From designs to figs top notch.
All fairly priced too except for the midi- Tantive IV.
- Midi-Falcon maybe just $5 too high. But design is incredible here at this scale with some interior too. Plus printed elements.
- Midi-Tantive is like $10-$20 too high.
- Midi-Hand is a great price.
- Boarding Tantive has about $35 worth of figs. Exclusive figures too. So another $20 for the diorama. Not bad for $55.
- New R2 also not bad at $100. Great smaller scale, play features, printed elements and exclusive fig for $100.

There aren't any pictures of the C-3P0 going around yet, so all images people might be posting of it are fake, but there will indeed be a C-3P0 set coming later on 2024 (on August). That rumour is true. You can check out MandR' youtube video regarding the summer leaks. He is very accurate with his info and rarely says anything that's not true.
