By in United States,

Something tells me it won’t fit my head well.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Wow! Didn't even know sound bricks existed

Gravatar
By in United States,

So glad they fixed the brittle brown issue. Can you imagine this coming out in 2018 or early 2019? It would have been an impossible to build mess.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That pile of poop looks like it's as disgusted as I am.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That looks very small, maybe they shouldn't show that advertising picture of a woman trying it on.

As to sound bricks returning, I'm not that interested. They seem to have increased the price of this by about £25 compared to the £50 or so it should be without one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmm, difficult. Very difficult. Where to put you? I sense design, yes. But, expense, too. Hmm, sound brick... Slytherin!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sorting hat, eh? So does this keep my LEGO collection organized for me? Or do I wear it while I’m sorting? What is this?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If the Hat doesn't say "Bee in your bonnet, Potter?" then we're all wasting our time here.

Gravatar
By in United States,

More Voice Boxes please!!! Having them in the helmet sets would be so cool, or even star wars ships to make blaster fire sounds?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I am curious if they used the voice of the late Leslie Phillips..0

Gravatar
By in United States,

I commend the effort and it seems like a very cool design, but I’d estimate it will take about five minutes after release day before the Poop Emoji modification of this goes up on Rebrickable. :-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Rumour has it that it comes with a free doggy bag GWP.

Those bricks were fine while they came out, that's the insidious part. Only after a couple years, as people were disassembling sets again, did their flaws reveal themselves.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's an interesting new sound brick design! I'm assuming that you place the model above your jeans and it will randomly shout a Hogwarts house for you (I am Hufflepuff all the way)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Yeah, so that sorting hat is another 1:1 match of the image that surfaced in the survey leak last year...looks like I'll be getting a lot of D2C sets this year (Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Zelda, Gotham City, the Burrow, and Medieval Markets).

Gravatar
By in United States,

The large brown curved pieces at the very bottom mean people can finally make custom Trade Federation AAT's, based on the bigger and more accurate 2009 Clone Wars version. If you know what I'm talking about you'll know how long people have been waiting for that piece to come out in brown or tan, lol.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

31 phrases,
Not divisable by 4.
Therefore, assuming each phrase is giving a house, not all of them are equal.

Or probably some phrases not giving a house.
Wonder if they are quotes from the film or newly recorded sounds, does the hat even have 31 lines?

Gravatar
By in Italy,

clearly the brick will only speak in English?? what is it for?? I hope they really manage to reprogram it!!!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Don't care much for the hat, it looks rather crude and the size seems a bit weird.

I do very much like the idea of the sound brick though. But I guess it can only say the pre-programmed phrases at random? Now if only you could change those with an app, and have control over which one it would play....that would be the coolest thing ever!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally, a device that will tell me if I’m a main character, if I’m intelligent, if I’m racist, or if I’m cannon fodder!

But Trade Federation AAT's are tan, not brown.

By in Germany,

Holy crap. 40 bucks for a basic sound module? Must be made by Apple or military grade.

P.S. You know that the set is listed at 100€ and 79€ is the pre-order discount, right?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The set you didn't know you needed and now you know you still don't.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is that sound brick new? Don't remember ever seeing it.

Yes. There have been previous ones, but they are all new for each new brick. They are just pre-recorded sounds on a chip. You can buy cheap modules with ~10 sounds for under a dollar. Add a battery, a small speaker and the casing, and these are quite expensive for the cost of similar components.

Or if you mean the shape of the brick, then I think yes. I don't think I have seen that format before.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

That woman is only 4”5 too!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

gonna be a nice parts pack once it inevitably drops to 30 bucks

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is one of the phrases 'Please kill me and end my torment!' ??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Alternatively just record sounds on your mobile and place it in the hat.

Seriously not interested. I keep waiting for the set that costs a lot that I'm really interested in. It hasn't arrived yet. Sure there's a few coming and already out that cost a lot and I'd like to build, but none that really fascinate me yet this year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was rumoured to be 100 and I have to say 80 is much easier to swallow. Not for me but a fun set for fans. Different at least.

Gravatar
By in United States,

There’s only one use of that sound brick that’s right for me

(I meant to say place above your head)

Out of my respect to HP fans I'm not gonna make comment on the color and the shape combination.

Would be funny if they added a phrase in "never sort by color alone".

I actually remember seeing a picture of an organizer in an old Lego catalog that had that.

Probably you typoed it as "jead." H and J are right next to each other on the keyboard, and in my experience Android autocorrect, at least, tends to prioritize words starting with the first letter of what you typed (sometimes even to the point of refusing to suggest anything else, and giving up entirely if you type something like "wxclamation.")

Hmmm, The Sorting Hat, AKA M. Chlorian.
Now if the hat had access to the DSM, then it would make it much more useful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I want to know who suggested this in a product development roundtable. Better yet, I want to know the overpaid "executive" that signed off on it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hm…I’m guessing that the Sword of Gryffindor you can pull out of that hat is similarly not to scale.

And you just wait until the batteries are drained and that sound brick sounds like a long drawn-out fart.

By in United States,

Putting aside the politics (which we shouldn't), putting aside the unfortunate color and shape (which we can't), why is this set actually a thing? I get that it's a thing from the first movie/book and "omg it's the thing everyone has to wear to be inducted into a house and my personal fantasy is being in my zodiac-like Hogwarts house" but it's an evil-looking uninviting mean brown hat that's practically unlikable. Is it because it's the closest thing Lego can do to a Helmet Collection set for Harry Potter? Just because something is memorable doesn't mean it's welcoming.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Alia_of_AGL:
The hat _does_ announce Houses triumphantly. And we did a display at a Harry Potter convention nearly a decade ago, where people were lined up all weekend to be Sorted (many would just say which House they belonged to, but you could also do the questionnaire if you’d never done so before). Keeping in mind there are still tons of HP superfans, this is exactly the sort of thing many might like to have on display.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I think, the saddest part of the whole thing is the full-grown adult woman giggling as she tries to wear a clearly under-sized plastic hat.

I assume the four empty cocktail glasses are just out of sight.

Gravatar
By in United States,

All I can say is that I can't wait to see what else gets to use the sound brick. Hoping that, eventually, some City sets see light and sound modules (like Bruder and Playmobil still have, but LEGO hasn't since what, the 1990s?).

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

It looks like a tribute to Lepin.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

The sound brick is a complete gimmick but I'm curious to see how it sounds. Though I think I would have preferred them to make the hat bigger and ditch the gimmick.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I just want the printed tiles.

Kudos to anyone who can reprogram the sound brick into the Guidance Counselor Hat. (Warning, NSFW language.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cij4K33zjXg"

I feel sure that if I place the Guidance/Sorting Hat over my jeans, it will tell me something memorable. Perhaps, "You'll be drowning in 'Tang."

A bit small and a bit expensive, which is disappointing as HP has been one of Lego's strongest themes of the past few years (with a lot of excellently designed sets).

I would argue you can see how something sounds. For example, I already saw a post on Instagram by the designer where he showcases the set. The post has sound. Yes, I *hear* sound, but had I not seen the post I wouldn't be able to know how it sounds. So I had to *see* the post to know how it sounds. Ergo, I saw how it sounds. :P

(Oh yeah, I too have a inner Sheldon ahahahahah)

Yes but it will be close enough. The 2000 AAT used some brown pieces in the hull as well, and it came out fairly decent looking.
