Collectable minifigures series 26 revealed!
Posted by Huw,
Authorised LEGO retailer The Minifigure Store has provided us with the first official picture of the next collectable minifigure series. The theme of the series is space, perhaps unsurprisingly, given the prevalence of space-related sets this year.
Along with characters bearing logos from past space subthemes, there are astronauts and aliens in the selection. However, I think it'll be the pink space baby that will be most anticipated!
They will be available from the 1st of May.
View a large image after the break then let us know in the comments what you think of them.

SPACE! The baby is nice, but the throwbacks to M-Tron and Blacktron II have me the most interested. The Ice Planet penguin is adorable.
I need the last one and a Poppy Star Hair piece.
Also amazing set, I know I basically want every single one so much that this might be the first one I buy a box for.
Wow, M-Tron, Ice Planet, and Explorians, all in one series.
What is that dinosaur leg on the blacktron-2 guy?
Are they suggesting blacktrons are not human?
Lego they kept this secret for 30 Fu..nny years. that's cospiracy!!!

I think he's actually a mutant. They must've had a major radiation leak in the reactor core of the ship he was on, or something...
does the Blacktron guy have a double right arm?
Orion looks great! So much transparency...
Not a horrible series, but... who the heck ASKED for this?
I like them, nothing worth it to me having to go either buy a box, set, or find them in a store! Well Done LEGO!!!!
These seems a bit off ? Mandatory "Space Baby" figure to have, and the tourist is funny, but the rest are not that great. Gives more "Vidiyo" vibe than "Space". The M-Tron is a good remake as well.
I'm not super into space, but this is a quality selection of minifigs. The little alien tourist is hilarious and would be a fun addition to a city/modular layout.

It was me. I did.
I’m here for Blacktron and Ice Planet.
I think the third one is supposed to be like 71018-11 , which is some fun continuity
Love the tourist - hope the scanning app works again like it did for series 25.

Yes, I believe so. I think it could be the first minifigure designed with three arms. We’ve had one and four before as well as two of course. But I don’t recall a minifig with three.
This is a complete failure.

I think the insectoid alien (on the bottom left of the article image) might also be an homage to the aesthetically similar aliens from Galaxy Squad.
Saw a leak of these a few days ago, so its nice to get a decent pic of them.
Not sure about some of the colour choices on a few of them (Pink retro space adventurer and the blue hat on the Grey), but I love the full set so I'll be getting them all.
Love the constellation guy as Orion is my favorite constellation. Also think the bug guy will be in high demand.

Agreed. My first thought was that it’s a homage to the buggoids from Galaxy Squad.
Wow, these are pretty awful! What a missed opportunity on what could have been awesome. Shouldn't have mixed so many Dreamz vibes in.
ZERO bad figures. The Retro Space girl is the weakest, but that dog helps!
Let's hope for castle "set" as well in future!
Really excited for this. The M-Tron, Blacktron and Ice Planet references mean nothing to me as they were before my time, so the nostalgia goggles don't apply. These designs look really fun, best series in a long time IMO. (of course, it helps when you're a Star Trek/Star Wars/Doctor Who fan...)
These are brilliant. Probably the first time I will buy a full box of CMFs
My absolute fav is the Alien traveler. I always adored this concept and having Grey head that can be decorated gives me so many ideas!
I want at least 10!

Me.
These are FAR better than expected! SW Lego could learn from this.
In fact, that spider alien could find some uses in SW as a CIS Admiral. Also, force ghost Qui Gon has been working on his abs, and got a haircut!
I'm also down for a whole box. First time since HP CMS 1.
Loving these figs
SPACE PENGUIN!

What in the world(s) are you two going on about?
I'm interested in the ice planet one, so I will get it.
The saucer one and the living constellation one are legit quite clever, more than the usual “minifig in a suit” type ones we get.
Though the nostalgia in me loves the one that’s an Ice Planet shout out
I need to get that dog, I'd like to get the alien tourist, there's other 4 I like a lot.. but I really want all 12

In my case I wish they would have made far more figures that were like ultimate versions of space themes and far less of the wildly outlandish "weird" figures.
I used to be disappointed if a series had no figures I liked; nowadays I'm relieved!
Gonna be honest, yet discrete: I am tumescent.

I would argue that it's better for a minifigures series to have variety, so that there's "something for everyone", than for every fig to hew closely to the same type of appeal.
Never quite caught the collectible minifig bug, but these are pretty nice. Certainly more creativity and variety than the last few series.
Gotta love that Ice Planet is so cold, that even the penguins need thermals.
More transparent pieces force ghost are coming
Roger Smith and Jenny XJ9 there off to the far right. Definitely one of the coolest series we’ve seen in a while.
Been drooling over that dark blue Buggoid ever since these leaked. No interest in any of the other figures but I’m definitely gonna get quite a few of that Buggoid, Galaxy Squad’s awesome
My two favorites are definitely the ice planet and Orion figures. I also like the retro space woman and the legs of the MTron remake. I'll probably skip the series except for ice planet, but even then I'm debating if it's worth it. I may just wait for DnD in September. It's not a bad series, I'm just not that interested in them.
Dreadflipper will now have an army of robot penguin minions, thanks to the Ice Planet figure.
I absolutely adore the Orion figure, that looks so cool. I agree that, these aren't the classic interpretations of minifigs from their respective themes, but I still like them. No love for Spyrius?

I’ll Keep it short.
Hate them.
Not great. I think they're running out of ideas. Obviously going for a lot of nostalgia there.
What's going on with the baseplates? Either they were *really* dusty when photographed, or there's a star field printed on them!

The Buggoid looks a lot like this one, and came in both olive green and dark red.
The Misquitoid and Mantizoid each came only in olive green.
I believe it is indeed a starfield! If you look at the front left corner of each, there's a white dot very near the corner, and another just in front of the leftmost stud.
I hope they make an Animal Crossing minifig series sooner or later.
This one is great though. My favorites are the UFO guy, the tourist, and the retro woman with the robopug.

The printing on it is very similar in style to the Galaxy squad ones.
https://brickset.com/minifigs/gs001/alien-buggoid-olive-green

They did have one in dark red, and there were three different shapes of bug, so I think it is a very safe fit into the Galaxy squad theme.
Also, I want to see more of the M-Tron guys robot arm. It looks like it attaches to the backpack.

I'm Space-Spartacus!
The ray-punk girl and ROBOT DOG are awesome. Ice Planet DoomGuy and his SPACE PENGUIN is awesome. Mutant Blacktron guy with the monster leg and a double monster arm is awesome. PINK SPACE BABY is awesome.
Yep, gonna need the full set of these. Anyone know of a US-based website that sells complete sets?

Yep! Likewise, the EVA suit astronaut (second from the left on the bottom row) matches the style of spacesuit from 71011-2 In general I feel like this series has a great balance between throwbacks to earlier Space themes, throwbcks to earlier Minifigures series, and entirely new concepts. Orion strikes me as especially brilliant — constellations are a very different sort of Space minifig archetype than we've ever seen in a previous minifig series or theme, and yet it works really beautifully!
Eager to read reviews of this series once it's out to learn what other fun details this series might have to offer (for example, whether the robo-babysitter has any back printing or alternate expressions, or what the tile on the back of the EVA suit astronaut's mobility backpack looks like).
I would have loved to see a classic space minifigure (other than the baby) in a new color here. Hope they keep introducing new colors in other series. Also, really hoping all the boxes in this series have the new data matrix code printed so that we can check which minifigure comes in each box. In my experience with the latest series released, some boxes still have the QR code which is useless. I've tried various local retailers in my area (Greater Toronto) and their boxes always have this issue so I haven't been able to complete the series yet (will probably have to use the secondary market as last resort).
M-Tron? Ice Planet?? Pink spacebaby??? YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YYYEEESSSSSS!!!!!

Aliens have been a staple of science fiction for many decades, even if alien MINIFIGS weren't a thing until the 90s. And I think it's foolish to define LEGO Space purely in terms of what it USED to be instead of exploring everything that it COULD be.
Even the LEGO Space designers of the 80s and 90s are known to have considered possibilities for specially molded LEGO aliens, even if they didn't end up actually including any in Space sets until the 2000s. But in any case, only one figure from this series (the Galaxy Squad inspired alien) even has a specially molded head — and it's one that would hardly seem out of the ordinary in a 2000s or 2010s Space theme. So yeah, this feels plenty "LEGO Space" to me, even if it's not all classic theme throwbacks.
Why is no one talking about those funky LEGS??!?
I gotta get me as many of those BLACKTRON torsos as possible.
And maybe some of the BLACKTRON figs.
Oh, and the M-tron and Iceplanet are cool, too. the rest aren't my jam, but I like them. I'll probably get a whole box!
I will bricklink the shield to add to my collection, but the rest is of no interest to me. I suspect that a large majority of LEGO fans will pass on this series.
I need to have multiples of the m-tron, Blacktron II and of course the ice planet minifig! These 3 belong to my favourite themes of all time!
I am so happy LEGO revisits them, hopefully with some nice sets in the near future!
By the way..does that trans-neon orange chainsaw piece mean that they reintroduce the colour?
I wish for a UCS 3000piece Ice Planet 2002 Deep freeze defender! That would be amazing!
And i am asking for it!!!
This might be the first minifig series I'd like to own!

I've had good luck ordering on ebay. You can usually pre-order them for just a small mark-up.
As a huge fan of every Lego Space theme prior to Exploriens, I can't separate the homage figures from their historical context. The M-Tron guy is the only one that really feels like a natural extension of what came before. M-Tron's heavy-machinery ethos fits well with him. But the Ice Planet guy feels all space-marines, the Blacktron guy is an animal mutant instead of a suave criminal mastermind, and the classic space-baby nurse is not Classic Space at all. They're all worth getting, but I think the other figures are actually more interesting.
But will I be able to get any? Between price increases and this foul new packaging, Lego seems to have nearly killed off CMFs. I only got two figures from the most recent series. The ones I found with data matrix codes were heavily picked through, the ones without data matrix codes were akin to setting money on fire, so I only got one I could absolutely verify by weight. Stores seem to be ordering a lot fewer of these things now, so the window to acquire has shrunk.
The old foil packs forced people to put in the labor to find figures, so there was more selection. The old prices meant there was more demand, so there was more supply. Now you either get nothing or the dregs. Boo.
@elangab:
Really? 1 looks like an EVA rig NASA might use today, while also being a throwback to the Blacktron II thruster pack. 2 is like a 50's version of something you'd see in the MiB films, with tiny aliens wearing a human suit to blend in on Earth. 3 is a throwback to 8827, the classic "Grey". 4 is a throwback to 71018-11, the Retro Spaceman (inspired by stuff like the original Buck Rogers serials). 7 has a flying saucer helmet over a space field body. 9 reminds me of Robbie the Robot. 10 looks like a Galaxy Squad alien. 5, 6, 8, and 12 are obvious throwbacks to legacy Space themes. 11, a Greek constellation in minifig form, is the only one I see that leans more fantasy than sci-fi. On the other hand, like 7, it's a literal representation of Space in minifig form.
@Oli:
Supposedly regular trans-orange. And the bubble helmet on 9 is probably trans-bright-green.
@Fatsochillyfries:
It's hidden by the prints, but the hips, torso, and hands are all opaque. Only the legs, arms, head, hair, and accessories are transparent.
This can only mean, castle can’t be too far behind.
My hopes for that CMF series was:
1- Classic spaceman in white
2- Classic spaceman in red
3- Classic spaceman in yellow
4- Classic spaceman in blue
5- Classic spaceman in black
6- Classic spaceman in green
7- Classic spaceman in orange
8- Classic spaceman in pink
9- Classic spaceman in brown
10- Classic spaceman in purple
11- Classic spaceman in lime green
12- Classic spaceman in magenta
Basically an "Everyone is awesome - classic space version" - I'd still like to see that.
I did not know that Blacktron was some sort of mutant type of thing (I looked at the previous minifigs and could not see that).
I like a few of those (Paul the alien tourist for sure). I'll probably buy a box of 6 and hope I'll be luckier than for series 25.
Going through them left to right, top row then bottom.
1st is absolutely adorable. While I'm pretty positive the concept is even older than it, reminds me of that one guy from Men in Black. Most LEGO sets include nanofigs as extra parts so I wonder if he actually comes with two of the little guys or if it's three.
2nd Kinda basic. It's a cute design for a robot but not super fussed about it.
3rd Also not freakin' out over, but she'd go well with that other retro space guy from a few series back.
4th Is an absolute highlight that will be great for army building. I'd love to put a bunch of 'em and that old Space Miner on that big Technic rover set that just came out.
5th I'm pretty sure is just supposed to be a guy in a Halloween costume, but I'd love to get multiple copies of it from the head up and pretend they're a bunch of super small aliens who fly around in their ships everywhere.
6th Is clearly just a regular man. What are they doing in a space series?
7th Feels like a hybrid of the Buggoids from Galaxy Squad and the color scheme of Insectoids. Insectoids is my favorite Space them so I'd rather get a proper Zotaxian, but it'll be great for army building regardless.
8th Is the only design of the lot I'd call weak. It's such a basic City looking astronaut and a very similar CMF came out not long ago.
9th I never pictured the Ice Planet crew as being that chunky, but I guess it would be important to insulate from the cold. With both this and M-Tron I think it's cool that LEGO keeps the iconic Classic Space and OG Blacktron figs basically identical to the original, but the other retro characters are given more room to reimagine and upgrade. Best of both worlds kinda thing. The robot penguin is adorable and once more its a good army builder.
10th It's a shame it's not a regular Blacktron Next Generation to army build, but still neat. Mixing two arms on one side and one arm on the other is pretty sweet. Comparatively the two different legs is a tad ugly, and the leg having printing limits the potential of making a non-mutant version of this guy. That said the leg print is not too different form the nurse. Fingers crossed a regular version pops up in a legacy set some time this year!
11th Orion is undoubtedly the prettiest of the lineup, all those transparent parts and starry speckles are gorgeous. Funny enough he gives me major Lord Vortech from LEGO Dimensions vibes, and Vortech gave me major Mythran from LEGO Universe vibes, but Orion doesn't feel like a Mythran at all. Odd evolution that.
12th The nurse itself is pretty nice, and a new color of space baby is cool. With how many of those things that have come out so far having a nanny to manage the lot will be much apricated in any display.
I mentioned it in a recent review that this is one of two Year of Space sets to actually scratch my LEGO Space itch and I'll definitely be getting a full series. Now that I think about it, the 90th anniversary collection is the only themed but numbered series I didn't 100%. Maybe I should go back for that...
@AllenSmith:
I hit a Target a couple weeks ago, and all of the CMF boxes were encased in little security cases like you often see for movies. _If_ they were inserted into the cases correctly, there was a slot that the hang tab could fit through, so you could get just enough of a view of the 2D code to potentially scan it. If it got put in backwards, the bottom of the case was opaque, so it would need to be opened to get any sort of scan off the bottom, UPC or otherwise. So far, this is the only place I've seen these cases. Most Targets just put them in the checkout lanes where it's a little easier to keep an eye on them.
Also, just recently saw some of the Marvel 2 minifigs...and the boxes were clearly ripped open.
Looks like I will be sitting out on this round of Minifigs. Not a fan of this series
Disappointed Lego didn't take the opportunity to revisit Classic Space minifigures from the 1970s or 1980s in an affordable and easy to access way. Dissapointed there is no light blue Classic Space minifigure to complete my everyone is awesome space diorama. I'll get the pink space baby and give the rest a miss.
Pink Baby... That's what I want. And maybe the Ice Planet Lady. The rest doesn't interest me.
@Aanchir said:
" So yeah, this feels plenty "LEGO Space" to me, even if it's not all classic theme throwbacks."
In that case, I'm happy for you. Not every CMF is "one size fit all", so all is good.
@Rabrickzel:
Based on the times I’ve been able to find S24’s that I can scan, Mushroom Girl and the Goatherd are two of the first to go.
Definitely one of the weakest CMFs in a long while.
Yeah, I don’t know. I love CMF and Space. But I just don’t know.
That Blacktron mutant (Reaver?) is sooo gonna reside down near the power generator (battery box) of 6988 Alpha Centauri Outpost.
I don't get the ambiguity, dislike, or flat-out hate from some commenters in this thread. This series is awesome! When I first heard that there was going to be a Space-themed CMF series, I was afraid it would be more homogeneous than this. I know some people would love a series of Classic Space minifigs in new colors, but that wouldn't have been to my tastes. I'm tempted to not only buy a whole box, but keep all the Ice Planet and M-Tron figures, considering those are my two all-time favorite Space subthemes. If I did layouts at shows or something like that, I'd be tempted to stick one or two of that Alien Tourist down in one, even if the layout wasn't Space- or future-themed. No, make that *especially* if the layout wasn't Space- or future-themed. I also like that there's a modern-day astronaut in the mix, even if his EVA pack does call to mind this piece: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=6023&idColor=1T=C&C=1 But that piece did see use in one Space Port set (even if it's more associated with Blacktron, as @PurpleDave mentioned), so it's still appropriate.

You must have missed out on pretty much all of LEGO space since the 1990s. The 90s sets often feature regular minifig heads with alien printing - Insectoids etc. Then from 2000 onwards specially molded heads in Life on Mars, Space Police 3, Galaxy Squad and Alien Invasion.
So for the majority of the time we’ve had LEGO space there have been Alien heads and molds. There’s more to Space than just Classic

Space is a super HUGE seller for Lego.
Megatron, Blacktron and Iceplanet! That's good. However they look way worse than the prestigious originals. Why can't they be more faithful adaptions? Why do we live in a time where the new is worse than the old?

I second that.
To me this entire selection feels like a total hodgepodge. Nothing coherent, and especially the figures that try to appeal to the nostalgia fans disappoint all the way, since they don't feel as if they belong to those classic themes but are some kinds of weird mutants.
And yeah, a new space baby is always nice, but I had hoped there would be at least one new colour of Classic Space astronaut.
As it is I'll pass, since there's not a single figure I am the least bit interested in.
Plus, boxes instead of bags of course.
@missedoutagain said:

Actually, if they had done that I would have bought several complete boxes of the series.
Eh.. I never really cared about CMFs...
Until today! The year of Space continues! Love it--and now a third space baby color!
I see the alien tourist as “Paul” from the 2011 film (of the same name) voiced by Seth Rogen.
So will definitely get that one. The rest of the characters… well some are good others not so much.
Thinking of getting at least half of the wave:
M-Tron, Blacktron, ice planet, baby, insectoid and maybe the robot ( gotta love those legs ) .
Also nice to see a baseplate with a print! Twinkle twinkle
For me, probably the least interesting CMF series yet. I've got plenty of nice aliens from previous series.
Easy pass.
I like to populate my city with the CMFs. Only one usable (alien tourist) in this series, so to me it's disappointing.

Its like Lego is sneaking up on a certain IP theme that someone on the design and approval team at least would love to do with that space marine and chainsaw attachment.
There are a few I like, but some of them (like the first one) that just look like a complete random selection of parts to me. The problem is to get rid of those figures when buying random figures (which in my experience has been the cheapest way of getting all the figures I want).
Edit: well, maybe I need to get used to them. I already am, sigh...

Well, you answered your own question from the beginning right there.
Personal taste.
This series apparently suits your personal taste, in which case I am happy for you.
To many others, myself included, the term "Space CMF" meant something else entirely, and maybe we got our hopes up too early, but to these people this series is the disappointment we described and for the reasons given.
Summing up, yes I do hate this series, but yes, I love that I don't have to waste my money on it.
Adding up the hate and the love should make for a neutral position towards this series for me.
Still, a little more on the disappointed side since I was really looking forward to it when I heard that space was the theme.
Guess this means something different to you and to me. Which is fine of course. Can't satisfy everyone all the time.
It's just that you shouldn't be wondering why so many dislike this series.

I see at least 5 figures that can be used in City setting:
>Alien Traveler - as a funny easter egg
>Alien mech-fig - Its seems to be normal citizen, and you can use aliens as toys. Also a cool easter egg in your city in some alley
>The medical Android - perfect fit for modern hospital
>Astronaut - Its best and most realistic Astronaut we have gotten.
>Robot - Its always good to have inventor house in the city - this guy can be a helper!
Meh.

In my case your opinion is realy out of place here! The nostalic factor is huge to me and i love that they did make them up to date. I realy like that they didnt include any classic spaceman! This gwp baby-series is of no nostalgic factor since the monorail was introduced by the futuron theme and not by the classic space theme. That aside, i am bored by these classic spaceman to be honest. Outdated design in my opinion. If they had included an regular old version of the blacktron, m-tron or ice planet minifigure i would be deeply disapointed!
No Rock Raider figure? Come on!

Seriously? Vidiyo Space series?
Alien and Policeman are cool but rest is so bland.
If we look at last series this one has lack of good accessories/animals imho.
New to this so forgive the question but..
Do the retailers know what's in each bag/box/wrapper? If I buy online, can I guarantee a whole set or do the retailers not know what's in each packet they send?

As for the GWP you are absolutely right of course, the Futuron line has nothing to do with Classic Spaceman minifigs. Why LEGO decided to mix those themes I don't know.
As for the design of the Classic Space figure, sure it's outdated, it's from 1979 after all.
The point is that it's a classic design that is loved by many, and adding one new colour variant via this CMF series would have made a lot of people happy, without taking away from the other figs in the series. A space baby just isn't the same thing.
And no one said that they should have included regular old versions of something like the Blacktron or M-Tron fig, but what they did here is so far away from those old ones that they don't feel like they could belong to those classic themes. Looks more like a space themed Halloween costume party where everyone dresses up as some space dude.

If you look at LEGO catalogs from 1987-1988, you'll see that the 'classic' spacemen are pictured alongside the Futuron figs, even seemingly working together at the same base. So, it's not that they're completely unrelated. I always assumed they were more or less the same 'faction', just higher ranking or more specialized spacemen. Like how you'd have soldiers, archers, and knights with any castle faction. The Black Falcon name was also applied somewhat retroactively, so the same could be true for Futuron.
If this new minifigure series had included a 1979 style spaceman in any color, it would've been the most sought after fig of this series, hands down. That's why you're still seeing them referenced so frequently. The fact they only included a space baby is showing quite a bit of restraint on LEGO's side, as they could've easily done one in teal or that new orange color, and people would've bought multiples of it.
I was looking forward to the M-Tron, Ice Planet, and Blacktron II figures. LEGO took them in creative new directions, for the most part, but as you mention they stray away a bit too far from the original minifigures for them to seemingly coexist together. That M-Tron fig needed to have a translucent bright green visor for him to fit in with 1990 M-Tron.
But we might be taking our little toy spacemen too seriously. ;-)

Fun figs with a lot of really great variety. I could have done with one or two additional “homage” figs to past subthemes (Exploriens please!) but otherwise these are all really fun and delightful.

I love Classic Space because it's what I had as a kid. I love Star Wars, and it brought me back from my Dark Ages. I see this CMF range as a bridge between the two. Also, I've retrospectively discovered that the other Space themes were awesome. So, yeah, I want/like it all.
If they did 'boring' Classic Space, I would also buy multiples of those.

No! I'm Space-Spartacus! ;-)
I'm all in for this one!
A few remarks and nitpicks:
I wish the M-Tron figure had a helmet with visor instead of the visor being the alternate face. It limits the army build options. The same is true for the Blacktron. That one feels even more like a unique person.
I had build a retro space scooter for one of the Lego Ideas competitions. The pilot was a female version of the retro spaceman 71018-11 (head swap). So I've been waiting for the retro spacewoman for a long time. At least six years.
I think Tourist Alien is one that can pop up in any display at any time. I wonder if the yellow shirt with colourful patterns is a nod to Alf. Alf had a similar shirt in his cartoon series and it was also included with his Neca figure.
I didn't like the bulky look of the Ice Planet figure at first, but now I think it goes well with the helmet.
Love the Space Penguin!
UFO costume figure will most probably become some cosmic entity.
Babysitter robot can definitely become Robotica M.D.
More Space Babies in different colours please!
A Futuron figure would have been nice. The Space Police Guy 71029-10 already had a nice updated torso for it.

And me :-) I'd rather LEGO does fresh, unexpected things and surprise us, than produce the same safe sets. And yes, I love LEGA Space sets and minifigs.
The only one I absolutely love is the Alien Tourist--he's adorable!
But there are some other strong figures here as well--Orion is really neat, and the Retro Space Girl (with robodog!) is cute. I'll be curious to see which ones my kids gravitate towards--I know my 8 year-old is going to want that pink space baby!
Like most CMF series, there's a little bit for everyone, which I think is great!
Love this whole series. The "Human being" is funny, M-Tron is a nice modern take, and FINALLY getting an actual insectoid is wild.
Ice Planet is by far my favorite.
Great parts in Blacktron, Orion, and budget Cortana too!
I guess it's cool that these aren't licensed or too bland but this isn't really classic space in fact some aren't even lore accurate. Was expecting better after the lacklustre City & Technic Space sets that everyone has been hyping up as a return of the Space theme.
I really do envy Lego Marvel, Star Wars and Harry Potter fans.

Well, I remember. :-) I did have to doublecheck to see if I remembered correctly, but turns out I did. The last wave with classic spacemen were still on shelves when Futuron sets were first released (around the time when I got my first blue spacemen), and even a good while after that, but they were phased out of catalogs by the time Space Police showed up. I guess those Blacktron goons chased them away.

This minifigure series clearly isn't meant as a recreation of those old LEGO Space factions, but rather a reinterpretation of those classic themes. Human shaped exo-suit being piloted by tiny aliens like the ones he’s holding. The head is double sided, normal human on one side, “opened up” to reveal the alien at the wheel on the other. The dudes Edgar the Bug was trying to steal a galaxy from are probably the closest reference, with the way the face reveals them, but other examples include the Eddie Murphy-bot from that one film he did (I want to say Meet Dave?) or the time-travelling Hitler-hunting robot from that one episode of Doctor Who
I have figures from every CMF series but this is the first series where none are so enticing that I want to buy them.
I don’t have Blacktron or M-Tron nostalgia. I’m over the Classic Space babies. I like the tourist alien and the robot penguin. I think the transparent Orion is the most inventive. But none of these match the creativity and design of previous series to make me want to spend money on them.
@GenericLegoFan said:
"Seems some people would've like 12 boring classic spacepeople than this."
Definitely.
There are lots of people 'building armies' of Star Wars storm/clone troopers. I certainly would like to be able to do the same with Classic Space minifigs.
I never understood (and never will understand) why Lego is so averse in providing its loyal customer base with what they really want. In case someone at Lego read these forum, I'll say it again: There is a fairly large swath of people that like the 'Classic Space' minifigs (remember: something Classic is unchanged from its original version - hence classic). It would be nice to be able to get them without having to buy the $100 spacecraft that comes with it. Simply a classic space battle pack. They don't have to be creative in any way - just classic space minifigs with existing mould in different colours - the more(colours) the better.
Nowadays, I believe a box contains 36 minifigs. At 12 different colours classic minifigs per box, I would most likely buy 3 full boxes (that would give me a section(9) of each colour - 3 sections per platoon). With this current selection, I might try my luck with a 6 minifigs pack and hope that I get Paul the alien tourist. If enough people behave this way, Lego might eventually wake up.
Another aspect to consider is: when people needs are satiated, they don't complain any more. So, Lego, make an "everyone is awesome - Classic Space version" and a lot of people will suddenly go silent as they have been provided with what they really wanted for a very long time. This is the preferred solution; i.e. this series for those who like stuff like that and an 'everyone is awesome - classic space' for those who wants to army build from nostalgia.
As they say: nostalgia isn't what it used to be...
I kinda want to give a more in-depth analysis of my thoughts on each fig.
1. If that's not a Men In Black reference, I don't know what is. I'm hoping there'll be an alternate, relatively more "normal" face. Also the tiny alien trophies look fun!
2. The leg piece looks interesting, but other than that it isn't that exceptional.
3. This will pair perfectly with that retro spaceman from a few series back! Hopefully it doesn't drive up the price of that minifigure though. The robo-dog is an interesting concept but... I dunno, I feel like the dog mold is too organic for a robot.
4. Sure everyone is excited for the return of M-Tron! I'm really interested in that robot arm piece. Hoping that the white-on-red leg printing won't be Commander Fox all over again though...
5. This is super interesting. Not only do you have a starry minifigure outfit, but you also get a versatile head in bright green!
6. This is so cute! I, like many others, want to get more of these for an army of classic aliens!
7. Everyone compares this to Galaxy Squad, but I'm just not seeing it. Nevertheless the figure looks amazing!
8. This one is by far the least interesting of the line. It's literally just a City astronaut with extra steps. That being said though, I really hope those cheese slopes are printed. Might be the only thing that can redeem this minifigure for me.
9. Everyone is understandably excited for the return of Ice Planet! Curious to see what the face looks like. And the penguin is super fun too!
10. I'm half excited and half disappointed. On one hand, it's nice to get Blacktron 2 stuff. But on the other hand, there's no way to fully complete this minifigure, either in full astronaut mode or full mutant mode. The asymmetrical double-arm bugs me the most, because we probably won't ever get a left double-arm in lime green ever again. Please LEGO, just make a spsce theme with four-armed aliens already, so we can see this part's full potential!
11. A transparent minifigure is super exciting! Also, the shield will pair perfectly with the one from the Night Protector!
12. PINK SPACEBABY

So for the majority of the time we’ve had LEGO space there have been Alien heads and molds. There’s more to Space than just Classic"
You're over thinking it. Fully aware of these sub-themes, I didn't like them as a kid and as AFOL. I have some of these figures still and find them weird and off-putting. I was just expressing my opinion, and yes - I would rather have "humans" than these Aliens. No big deal, yes it's "Lego Space" which is cool, but as a CMF series I think is not their best. Generally speaking, I don't collect/enjoy non "human" mini-figures, just my personal preference.

@Fatsochillyfries:
Hips and hands have slender stems that are likely to snap. Torsos have weld lines in the armpits, and those are huge stress points. _Maybe_ if making the torso/hips out of MABS means there’s no difference between opaque/transparent strength, those could turn transparent as well, but I think hands are PE. There’s no transparent equivalent for that material.

I totally get what you're saying, but I think it's unlikely to get Classic Space-style sets at retail that aren't targeted at an older audience, unless if there's a movie or videogame attached, as was the case with The LEGO Movie 2 Classic Space-styled sets.
Outside of that, I think there isn't a lot of interest for Classic Space-style sets with 4 to 12-year olds. If there was, I'm sure would be making those. Same reason why we see so few castle sets at retail: it's mostly the 18+ crowd who's picking those up. Kids gravitate more to Harry Potter and other franchises they're familiar with.

I mean, the original Blacktron 1 and Blacktron 2 figures alike were all identical smiley-faced astronauts in identical spacesuits. Certainly, they were very overtly a faction of spies and criminals, and often described or portrayed stealing technology from other Space factions, but there was rarely much individual characterization beyond that.
By contrast, it's not unusual at all for CMFs based on classic Space factions to include more specific characterization and details than their 80s or 90s counterparts: compare with 8803-6 Space Villain, 71002-4 Evil Mech, 71025-11 Space Bounty Hunter, and 71032-11 Space Creature.
And anyway, why can't a mutant be a criminal mastermind? Plenty of super-genius villains in fiction have deformities or injuries of some sort (sometimes tied to a previous scheme that went wrong, which motivates them to strike back either at the heroes who foiled their scheme or the society that rejected them in the aftermath). The LEGO Agents theme was replete with characters of that sort! But nothing about these mutations seem like they'd make this particular Blacktron operative any less cunning, nefarious, or competent than if they still had an ordinary human face and limbs.
As for the Ice Planet figure, I feel like this bulky spacesuit feels very well-suited to a researcher working in a hostile environment. It's not as though heavy body armor like this is only relevant to combat scenarios. After all, we've also seen bulky shoulder pads on figures like 71007-6 Space Miner and several of this year's City astronauts (particularly those shown doing construction, engineering, and mining jobs).
I love that Orion constellation minifig.
The minifig, whose body is black with stars, and green head on a saucer within a transparent dome, being a flying saucer, is different and sort of interesting.
The grey alien tourist is funny. The pink baby astronaut is cute. BUT i am not really sold on the rest of them. So far.......
New Spacebaby! (^_^)

"
To me those 3 minifigs are just the right approach for a reboot of any of the 3 themes. This Fractions all have evolved from the 90's. In my opinion TLG does everything right on those 3. To be honest, i couldnt care less about the others...

Sorry, i totaly disagree! The new city space theme is soooo Futuron II, i cant beljeve it. I own the 4 smaller sets 3 each and i am loving that theme. I wont buy the 3 large sets as i am building my own base and this research rover is just bad compared the the small one.
As i am an adult, to me this theme is aimed at me and i hope TLG continues original space themes! Foremost under the city line. I do not like that its city by the way.. Why it cant be just space?
Love most of these, I just think another series is too soon after the previous one, unless this is the last of the year, if not I'm worried it will be a quarterly thing.
Waiwaiwaitaminnit. Tiny aliens riding a human suit. Alien tourist. A dog that’s not of this world. A space baby. A 50’s-style flying saucer. Mixing up a pile of white stuff to be consumed. A giant alien bug. Extra limbs erupting from a human form. And some cat named Orion _and_ his belt? Holy sugar water, Edgar! This is an unlicensed Men in Black CMF series!

Whilst I do appreciate the desire from some quarters for a Classic Space version of Everyone is Awesome - I've never seen a set of CMFs I've wanted more. I think only one of these isn't great, and that's easily enough to go for the lot.
The Ice Planet fig in particular is great - although I may have to bricklink a Trans-neon orange chainsaw for him! My only regret here really is that there isn't a Spyrius fig - someone above has pointed out that the Spyrius droid was the first fig with leg printing and it seems a shame not to represent that, but there we are. For the first time, I'll be happy buying blind!

70841 was great (I should definitely have bought more). But, the set was plagued with one serious flaw: the blue classic spaceman is all messed-up: his face is wrong, his helmet is wrong and his torso is wrong (which makes 25% of the set wrong). The other 3 minifigs are proper.
Now, Lego can remove the spacecraft and space buggy as well as the robot and sell them by box of four: box 1: (red, white, yellow, black) box2: (blue, green, orange, light blueish gray), box3:(pink, brown, purple, lime green) box4: (magenta, sand green, sand blue, dark red), box5:(teal, aqua, dark blueish gray, tan). Hey, Lego hear this now, all the 'creative' work has been done - you only have to press the button to produce it now...
(if this is still too much work for you, just make all the parts available on pick-a-brick, fans will take it from there)
@HOBBES:
Ooh, no thank you. I've got enough brown ones from palping packets to get an army of Baby Bennies. I absolutely don't need an even bigger pile just for going after an army of Dark-Purple Spacemen.
Ok, so it may just be me, but I immediately thought of the DOOM slayer when I saw the ice planet guy.
I would be very frustrated and disappointed by this CMF set - IF Lego hadn't previously released a pink classic space figure... and an orange one... and a green one... and the Benny's Space Squad set, and the Rocket Boy with the light bluish gray space torso, and the alien with the purple space torso. And the blue space baby and the blue and white mini classic space figures. And the red and white reissue figures in 10497 Galaxy Explorer.
They've released a ton of classic space themed figures, and so it makes sense that we get interesting riffs on M:Tron, Blacktron II, and other creative bits like the pink space baby and space penguin. To me this series does what CMFs are supposed to do: supplement existing lines, not be a Battle Pack for your preferred specific sub theme.

Yeah, I suppose the colours would have to be mixed a bit more - box one may be less interesting because many people have the white and red ones already, yet the black one is the rarest.
That said, I doubt Lego will just take this and run with it. But if they want, they can mix the colours and make my proposal completely different and claim they thought about it themselves - I'm fine with that too.

*sigh* Even though I'd already read your comment earlier tonight, when I scrolled up and saw the last line said "planet guy", I fully expected the line above it to end in "pizza". Hopes dashed...
@HOBBES:
If they'd actually do five boxes, or even four, the sensible thing to do would be to spread out red, white, yellow, dark-pink, orange, and reddish-brown as widely as possible. Specifically, white (being in _two_ sets) should not accompany any of these other colors, but should only be packed with colors that are either completely new, or ones that need to be figbashed like dark-purple, green, or light-bley. Except what makes even more sense would be to just make one of these boxes four different shades of purple.
What a waste! They only do so many a year and this?! Noooooooooooo!

Very well put. CMF series are a chance for Lego to try interesting things with minifigs. They always have a certain variety to them, and catering to a specific sub-theme would be a bit odd.
I saw the leak months ago, but I have to say I'm disappointed, the only ones I'm potentially interested in are the ice planet and dark blue alien.
Maybe interesting to know because i read several times in this thread that the spyrius robot, called major kartofski by the way, was the first minifig with printed legs. That is new to me but what i know for sure is that Dr. Kelvin (female ice planet astronaut) was the first female space minifig. So hopefully that ice planet guy is a female!? Who knows?
I realy hope that there will be readable qr codes on the boxes like the last cmf had. That worked realy good to be honest!

Iunno, to me the new City Space sets really scream more or less "Classic Space Prequel". In my mind they fit perfectly as essentially the historical predecessors of whatever the Classic Space astronauts' organization is, taking its first steps into the wider galaxy/universe.
My initial reaction is "I don't like" because of the garish colours and haphazard style of the collection.
But then I look more closely at the individual figures and think "That's kinda cool/unique" so I think this grow on me.

curious anyone know what big castle gate goes too, it is about size hand?
I don't like this series at all. The realistic astronaut in the spacewalk suit (there's a proper name for those) is the only one of even mild interest. Great to see the Trilby hat being used, but of course they had to make it in a bright, weird colour so less uses.
I agree with those that compare this to Dreamzz. It's so... random? Most of these I don't even know what they are supposed to be.
There aren't many references to previous Space themes and those that do, such as M Tron and Ice Planet, are too way out in my opinion relative to the originals.
It's also a shame there's no regular space minifigures besides that lady astronaut, would've been nice to see some historic space related minifigures such as Gemini or Mercury mission type space suits, maybe a Yuri Gargarin-esque minifigure, a NASA style test pilot, scientist (maybe with some 1960s black thick frame glasses), etc.

I think that's supposed to be dough; if it was ice cream, he'd probably have a spoon.

Well, consider how many decades M-Tron has been kicked around because they’re only armed with magnets. Now they have clamps, too!
With Blacktron, there’s been a lot of weird stuff. Rench had the OG suit with a B2 logo. S3 had Space Villain with a black suit, a B2 logo, and pretty much his entire right side is cybernetic. S19’s Galactic Bounty Hunter has a black suit with the original logo, but he’s also an alien. And S11’s Evil Mech is all B1 logos, but some of the coloration is B2. Really, the only basic Blacktron minifig they’ve done in recent years is from the GWP set.
Well, it's been a couple of days, one of which I spent bedridden, and I'm both closer to and further from understanding the "all bad!" reactions than before. Closer because now I see what some of y'all wanted this to be, and further because... how in the world did you convince yourselves that was a reasonable expectation? Is this your first CMF series?
oh this series looks incredible
Love the Ice Planet and Orion figures, will there be a way to get them specifically in the states? (Assuming I ever actually see them in stores)
So many questionable choices. I only see 3 figures that are worth getting, with M-Tron being the best one (IMO). Blacktron II fig is a mutant, and it looks cool. I hope we get a modern regular figure soon, too.
The baby is clearly from classic space, so why isn't the babysitter in a similar outfit too?
Overall, I think my biggest disappointment is the Ice Planet one. It does not capture the feel of the originals, IMO.
These are just my initial observations. Maybe I'll change my mind about some of them, after they're fully spoiled.
I think now a days the set up for Blacktron is line Cobra in GI Joe or the evil New Gods at DC Comics, they have core and specialized troopers and they have unique/individual specialists, elites and officers.
Wow! This is objectively a really great series of Lego figures. The sheer number of comments on this thread is evidence enough of that. I don't understand any of the negative opinions here, which are surely in the minority.
I'm in for these! Usually I don't branch out much from Star Wars, but this year's City Space theme got me excited. That new walker exo-suit set with the purple crystals is GREAT. It made me realize that I also have the Space Miner from CMF Series 12 with his pseudo-Lego Space shoulder logo, and now he fits right in alongside the new exo-suit in a display, when I never had a use for him before. This Space CMF series reminded me that I also have the retro spaceman from CMF Series 17, and now it would be fitting to pull the pink retro space lady with her cyber dog to complete their family!
I think almost all of these figures would be fun to pull, some would be welcome multiples too. I never had any of the older space themed sets, but my brother had Ice Planet stuff, so this armored dude with his penguin is instantly recognizable. Not sure why people have any sort of negative reaction to the updates they've given these older themed figures. Are they not still perfectly recognizable as Ice Planet, M-Tron, and such? Even I think so. The idea for the Orion figure is also the coolest, and he's in trans pearl purple!
I think I like the dark blue alien and the Ice Planet guy the most, but I'll just buy some random boxed figs from this series and have fun!
I LOVE THE PENGUIN!

Really don't like the change from bags to boxes that Lego has made so went the ebay route this time, which only ended up costing 3 cents extra per figure over the regular $4.97/figure price (definitely not going to spend lots of extra money buying tons of blind boxes to try and complete the series). Love the MTRON, Ice Planet, Blacktron II and pink spacebaby.
When announced, I was excited.
When leaked, I was disappointed.
When revealed, I am mixed…
Personally, I’d like to have seen at least one single minifigure related to Classic Space, beyond the SpaceBaby. They couldn’t have offered just one figure with the Classic Space Logo on the chest? How about a Space Police minifigure in a new color as that line doesn’t get a lot of attention and I like the 50/50 torso prints and red visors. If they wanted to be boring, they could have given fans of Classic Space a new color, at the very least. If they wanted to be creative, they could have offered a modern twist on the classic design.
Oh well, since there isn’t proper Classic Space representation, the ones I like the most are Mtron, Blacktron and Ice Planet (mostly for nostalgia) along with the City real-world Space Suit and the Retro (Flash Gordon) Female Space figure that pairs nicely with a prior CMF series. BTW: I love the “Robbie The Robot” Legs from Lost In Space. Is that a new element? Give me segmented arms a robot lantern head and I’m in heaven!
Overall, it’s a creative mix, but that is likely why myself and some others are not as excited as we could be as the series is a bit, too creative vs. consistent within the theme. Will pre-order a box, just for the heck of it. Easier than searching!
Seems to be something for everyone in the set, so let’s enjoy them!!!

That makes sense, thanks.
I just realized the legs of the Robot Chef would be great for Gonk droids, though a plate to tall perhaps.

I need to army build those robot penguins
@ronvining: They did a Space Police III homage, in Series Twenty-One: 71029-10.

"What is that dinosaur leg on the blacktron-2 guy?
Are they suggesting blacktrons are not human?
Lego they kept this secret for 30 Fu..nny years. that's cospiracy!!!
"
If I'm not wrong, almost every Blacktron minifig in the modern era (in a sci fi setting, as opposed to the logo on tshirts) has either been robot/cyborg or alien, like 8803-6, 71002-4, the alien in 5981, and 71025-11.

71025-11 has a human head underneath

True! “Space Police” was well after my time, but I’ve gone back to collect one of each color. I have the CMF you referenced. With the armor off, he’s really good!
