By in United States,

Dreamzzz certainly ain't skimping out on this wave! They seem pretty similar to sets we've seen before, but upgraded to the max! Can't wait to see how these tie into Season 2! (Which I'm sure will come out eventually...)

And, I dare to say it: if LEGO Dreamzzz keeps putting out great sets like this, it might just save the theme!

Gravatar
By in United States,

All three sets are amazing (can't decide if the raven or z-blob mech are my favorite) but it's a shame they're all so expensive. Hopefully smaller DreamZzz sets release too to balance out the larger and more expensive sets.

By in United States,

Some themes I don’t collect.
Some themes I buy the “highlights” of them.
Some themes I buy ALL of the sets.

And that Raven will be mine!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are very cool. I'm curious if 71478 's wings can move up and down, but that one is hard to resist. Dreamzzz is all over the place in the best ways.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That mech sure is unique, which says a lot considering how many mechs Lego has made

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I am getting a lot of Monkey Kid vibes from these sets.

Thanks a lot for these! Are those official, or just speculation?

Regardless, the prices seem fair. 71485 looks a little small for $130, but I'm still gonna pick it up... BECAUSE Z-BLOB

I think Alan Parson's Project's Edgar Allen Poe-inspired songs 'The Raven' and 'A Dream within a Dream' should be required listening while building that Raven set. Because reasons!

Doth quote the Raven: 'Nevermore!'

Gravatar
By in France,

@dudebrick : Looking closely at 71478 wings I can see two technic bricks with rotation joints per wing, themselves clipped on a technic rotation disk, and they seem to be aligned on the same axis, therefore I am quite confident they can flap and tilt.

Three wonderful sets, my son will be crazy when I show him these tomorrow. The "nightmare ravens" look great. Seems they will be battling with evil clones next season.

Oh man, I am gonna need to buy one of those small dual-moulded ravens on the secondary market... These are some excellent sets.

Why am I just now realizing that:
A. This is why the Never-Witch has a raven theme
B. The raven theme is why she has "Never" in her name
There you go. This wave's villain is an elaborate Edgar Allan Poe parody.

By in United States,

Super excited for the review of the Raven, love how it and the minifigs look. But the finer features will be the deciding factor. Overall, the "evil" versions of the main cast have a really cool aesthetic, I like it! Especially like the Never Witch figure.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Once again all these sets are overdetailed and could have been much cheaper for what they offer.
Also not a fan of once again repeated figures.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hah, I love that the witch hut has its own little bird legs! Got a Baba Yaga in training over in the dream world!

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

The Raven is a standout. Others — meh.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Interesting use of the anti studs on the chest plate on the dinosaur mech as greebling. Generally speaking, exposed anti studs are the ugliest part of any build.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

The new raven mould looks fantastic, hope we get it in all black with eye-print sooner than later!

If we are lucky HP will help us this summer ;)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Ravens, Baba Yaga, a Mech and a Zoid (remember Zoids). A more than solid wave!

I've been (somewhat) ninja'd! I'd also like to add "The Raven", the original poem as well. Definitely one of my favorites for its eeriness and mystery around it. Anyways, the Midnight Raven is SO CLOSE to being the Raven from aforementioned poem, but the pink feathers... I mean, I'll certainly take certified Edgar Allen Poe memorabilia.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hm. C-Rex carries over the "vehicle made into an animal" theme and color scheme of 71458 in its "complete" forms. Wonder whether that means it's another Cooper+Logan collaboration in-universe.

Anyway, very cool stuff, hopefully I can find space for it.

Repeated figures from previous waves? Cuz that doesn't seem to be the case for any of these figs. Repeated figures within the wave? I can't think of a single wave or theme that hasn't done that.

Also, "overdetailed." Rolled my eyes so hard I might have sprained something! Yes, they could be cheaper if they offered less...but they didn't offer less...why are we complaining about that?

This kind of whining is part of why I can't take Star Wars fans seriously. One of the biggest, longest-lived Lego licensed themes, and still nothing's ever good enough for them.

The fact that other themes occasionally exist and dare to have cool fig designs is not an insult to you personally.

Beat me to it!

Also, this is an earned slap in the face. TLG acts based on the information they have, and the information they have is that Star Wars fans will snap up 4 copies of anything on release day. If you want them to put more effort in (debatable already), at least prove that to them! Don't just *say* it, or post in comments about it, but vote with your dollars. I can 10000% guarantee that if people actually started putting their money where there mouth is, you'd see some changes.

But when your mouth says "I don't like this, this is bad" and your wallet says "Here you go sir, and I'll pay more next time!," then there is no question which one TLG will listen to. And I absolutely cannot blame TLG for doing that, too!

I think they're less greebling, and more likely those hinges will mean a compartment in his chest. For storing the little city in a bottle, or trapping enemies, who knows, but it is a little weird they didn't just use inverted tiles, cuz they'd definitely apply here

Gravatar

I do like these sets. The robot looks like Optimus Prime and the T-rex is a zord. It's a zord, look at it!

I understand where you're coming from. We have a good community in Lego and BS.

On the other hand, they are toys. So, should any of this be taken seriously?

On the other, other hand, isn't commenting about toys/collectibles just a silly lark to begin with?

On the other, other, other hand, Star Wars totally gets screwed by Lego.

Nevertheless, that's not the focus here.

Ravens, T-Rexes, Mechs.. Oh, my!

While I agree that LEGO Star Wars fans can be needlessly harsh sometimes, I think people are justified in wondering why fabric waist attachments can be used in DREAMZzz, but not in Star Wars. In a roundtable last year, the LEGO Star Wars designers mentioned that they no longer use them because children find it difficult to attach fabric pieces with multiple folds to figures, but it seems that issue is not shared by DREAMZzz.

I presume LEGO does have evidence for children finding it difficult to use those fabric waist attachments, but perhaps the DREAMZzz designers are just more willing to take the chance. Alternatively, I wonder whether there is an acceptance for non-licensed minifigures that the fabric skirt can be omitted without significantly affecting its appearance, if a child finds it too difficult to use, whereas a Star Wars minifigure might appear incomplete without the waist attachment, so they choose to print it instead.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

These remind me of Monkey Kid. But not in a good way. The size and amount of detail feels overdone for what these sets are. Especially the raven and dinosaur look downright painful to build all of the INDIVIDUAL feathers and pieces of scrap for. I'm not saying people who enjoy such builds shouldn't or anything. Just to me these look like the designers forgot to actually scale back from a concept model at any point of the design process. The raven in particular looks like there will barely be any usable space because everything's covered in tiny stuff.

Excessive! The word I was looking for is that these feel excessive

The jacket in red will definitely be used for Marty McFly. I'm curious to see what the cheaper sets will look like, as well as who the new girl is. My one disappointment is that Zoey is supposedly the figure appearing in the Dreamzzz polybag, and she looks to be the least interesting figure. I'll probably still pick it up though.

But the people complaining about details aren't necessarily the same ones buying multiples of sets. I suspect that for every fan who hates the helmet holes, or whatever, there are several more buying the sets because we'd rather have toys with slight inaccuracies than none at all. And a minifig's proportions don't match a real person's, anyway!

Love the Raven, not the Mechs. I've adopted a wait for the sales attitude for this theme that has been working somewhat successfully. Got the Cat-Owl set & Mr. Oz's Space Bus at decent prices when I caught some Markdowns at my local Walmart this past month. I like 2 or 3 sets out of each wave that really aren't must haves but will grab if I find them at good markdowns. Most of the ones I wanted from last year were available & reduced to ridiculously decent prices at local Costco's. The only one I was somewhat interested in that I never found at a discount was the Nightmare Shark Ship but I've moved on.

Not available cheap enough at the Costco's near me and I spent enough on other sets around the holidays. I try not to buy LEGO online from them because they mark it up a little to cover shipping and if they have the sets in the warehouse the deals get better in store. Shark Ship wasn't high up on my wishlist and I decided I didn't like it enough to buy it unless it was 50% off or better and there was nothing else I wanted to buy more. I think I like the upcoming Raven much better. I did get great deals on the Stable & the Tree House from Costco.
Never saw any deals at Walmarts around here until the Cat Owl & Space Bus last month. Still hoping for a deal on the Sandman's Tower.

To be fair, I think LEGO was kinda justified for taking away waist capes, for two reasons:

1. They allow minifigures to sit inside vehicles easier, without bending or fraying any fabric pieces. This was actually LEGO's official reason for the change.
2. Like it or not, the printed kamas offer much more detail than LEGO's official ones. Take Fives for instance: if TLG had given him a physical kama, we all know dang well that it would've just been a plain gray cloth piece with no printing at all. But the printed kama not only gave us accurate striping detail, but it also had the straps going overtop of it.

I do think though that LEGO is being kind of hypocritical by still placing fabric waistcapes in other themes. I think it might be best if they just got rid of them altogether, unless they're in an 18+ collector's set.

The two 35459 pieces remind me of the shooting function on 76181. Perhaps the c-rex could do something similar.

Perhaps if, like half of this Dreamzzz wave, Fives (and others) got side leg printing and the printed kama would actually look like kama and not some two thin stripes, it'd be easier to excuse lack of cloth ones.

You read my mind! I feel like the Captain Rex from the Venator should've had this, especially since it's a set for collectors. And they could've just taken the side printing off for the rumored Microfighter, so the Venator Rex would still retain some value.

Alas, we all know that the LSW design team avoids side leg printing like the Plague. Such a shame, such a shame.

Wonder what everyone's favorite part of the Raven is. I personally really like the shaping of the shack's roof and the piece that looks like the Possession ghost tail recolored from its original Sandman colors (the Never Witch is on top of it).

I just belatedly noticed the minifig names are listed. "Madteo" is incredible.

I don't get the love for the cloth waist capes/skirt/jacket tail pieces on any minifigs. To me the never look good, lay properly or fit right. The cloth skirts on Cho & Luna a few years back were awful.

Agreed, the folded cloth around the waist, at least the way its been on every figure I've come in contact with, just hasn't looked good. Recently put the skirt piece on 71007-5 thought maybe that would sway me, still an awful fit.

Just realized something(s) w/the Z-Blob mech: It brings a whooole new meaning to the phrase "Check out these guns"...I mean, I've heard of 'shoulder-mounted weapons'; this is the first time I can recall seeing 'weapons mounted AS shoulders'...:D

All three are excellent, especially the raven and C-Rex! Is Dreamzzz the new Ninjago in terms of creativity and higher standard sets??

And, I dare to say it: if LEGO Dreamzzz keeps putting out great sets like this, it might just save the theme!"

As a fellow Chima enjoyer, getting vibes of the really fun set 70012-2 from the raven.

They're similar conceptually but to be honest I feel like this is a real showcase of how far set design has come in a decade—this new raven has a lot nicer shaping overall than the Chima one.

It's bigger with triple the number of parts. Of course it's better!
Well, as a general rule, 76210 being an exception.

I really don't want to be the guy who wishes the plague on the SW Lego designers. But, if you think it'll really help us to get better minifigs.... give them all the plague!! ;)

Izzy has appeared in other sets. And I kind of expect that there’s more to come with this wave.
