By in United States,

The battle droid carrier is the first must-have GWP of 2024 for me.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I'm very annoyed the Battle Droid Carrier is a GWP this is a proper set, they could have released it with the May wave for everybody

Gravatar
By in Spain,

Well the wait is for the UCS set. Don’t know what is keeping the press release so long since an image of the set itself is already on the May the 4th announcement on the Lego website

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If 40686 Trade Federation Troop Carrier was a general release set instead of a GWP, I would be very happy with it, but I think it's a pretty rubbish GWP. Nothing exclusive about it at all. It's a vehicle we've seen before and you could probably buy all the parts from Bricklink. I'm not one of those people who thinks every May the Fourth GWP has to be a super exclusive minifigure polybag, but at least give us something we haven't had before!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As others have said, that Troop carrier is a straight up set,
Should be sold as regular retail and not as a GWP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It absolute Bantha Poodoo that the droid carrier is a GWP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yep, definitely gonna pick up that battle droid carrier. Kinda neat that it's designed as a remake of 7126.

But it's such a shame that it's a GWP though. This is the battle pack fans have been begging for, and LEGO locks it behind a $160 spend threshold.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

May have to get the UCS AT AT then... are there any VIP point discounts planned too?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The droid carrier being a GWP is offensive, but I want it...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh. After the great Death Star last year, I'm a little bit disappointed this year. I like the little ships, exclusive minifigs are cool, and the droid carrier is neither of those.

Also, why is the coin for the Battle of Yavin? Wouldn't it make more sense to have the Battle of Naboo for the 25th anniversary? Last year was a ROTJ anniversary and we got a coin related to that movie

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I'm going to buy the Sith Infiltrator eventually, but as of today, this hasn't bee a strong star wars year yet. Let's see what the second half of the year has to ofer.
As for promos, I'm rather looking forward to May 15th when they're rumoured to offer a space themed GWP (hopefully not another Space Baby-/Microbuild).

Gravatar
By in United States,

As someone who already owns 7126, the troop carrier does not entice me to make a purchase. As mentioned above, it should have been a standard released set if Lego felt the need to release an update of 7126.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also, the $160 threshold for 40686 completely messes with my spending plans. I was gonna get 4 of 75372 and them 75360 (A. because it's too overpriced to buy on its own and B. because I don't have a LEGO R2-D2 or Yoda yet), because I was anticipating the paywall to be $10 fewer than it ended up being.
So... guess I'm getting 40675 as well. I don't even know if it'll count as a Star Wars set for the GWP, or what the heck I'm even gonna do with it afterwards. Build and display it? Keep it sealed as an investment? IDEK anymore.

Wait, what happens in May?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish the troop carrier was just a regular set so I could get one to add to my army rather than buy a large set and get it for free.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Lego SW with a weird year so far, some Ws but also many Ls to balance it out. It seems everyone agrees the carrier should just be a regular 20-25€ set, so that's reassuring. I'm interested to see what happens with the July-August wave…

Gravatar
By in United States,

Standard GWP disclaimer - they tend to be pretty readily available for direct purchase on eBay, at reasonable prices. No need to fork out for the threshold if you don't want to, plenty of people sell them directly on. I've acquired loads of GWPs this way, never paid more than £40 or so

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also those 1x2 plates with rails being in green are a lovely little early 2000s era Lego Star Wars throw back. I just built 7166 and it had the same pieces, I think 7126 from the same year also did.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

can gladly pass this promo by, and get the sets I want from other places at a cheaper price now!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm only shooting for 30680 this time as it was already on my wanted list, and while I might buy 40686 if it were available as a regular set, I don't feel like buying enough to get it as a GWP, nor do I feel like buying it on the aftermarket.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Another here who'd get the carrier if it was a retail set at a reasonable price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like how the back of the box shows one of the pilot droids without legs! XD

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not sure why people are upset about the Droid carrier. The cut off is $160...that's way cheaper than usual. And with SW prices so high as it is, you'll hit it in no time.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Wasn't there supposed to be a promo patch and key chain with the R2-D2 25th anniversary logo too?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I already bought the aat polybag a few months ago at Barnes & Noble. :( I wish the gwp was something more exclusive

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dang, I'd rather just purchase the troop carrier separately. I guess I'll have to find $160 worth of Star Wars sets to buy.

I have no space or budget for £145 of Star Wars stuff right now, especially with Barad-Dur supposedly on the way.
But a £25-£30 Troop Carrier would fit right in and be the re-enforcements my separatists need against all the Clones in recent years.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Plenty of clone packs in the recent years, and for separatists you can either get a $30 pack (that includes clones anyway) or a GWP... Not balanced all that well.

This Troop Carrier isn't too hard to get.

Well, Luke and Han got medals. So, you're either Chewbacca or Wedge, as those were the only four Rebel survivors of the battle of Yavin 4. (and I doubt Vader got anything but a scolding from the Emperor for his involvement!) Actually, let me rephrase that, as it wasn't a battle - it was the Yavin 4 Massacre.

There was also a Y-Wing pilot shown flying back afterwards. Unless you're saying he crashed attempting to land at the base?

I totally agree. Can we just get actual LEGO for GWP? Enough of the coins, medals, and keychains. TLG put exclusive figs in so many sets for this anniversary and totally missed the opportunity to offer one for the 4th.

I thought in canon that Wedge was the only non-main character survivor? If I'm mistaken, I deeply apologize.

Evaan Verlaine is the other survivor, piloting a Y-wing.

The film doesn't ever address this. You just see the Falcon, two X-Wings, and a lone Y-Wing flying back to Yavin following the explosion.

This video explains the two conflicting backstories, from Lucas-era EU canon and from Disney-canon.

By in United States,

Once again LEGO is taking something that people have been begging for and would likely want multiple copies of and locking it behind an insane price threshold

Gravatar
By in United States,

As so many other people have said, I'd have loved to see that Trade Federation Troop Carrier as a proper set. I'd buy like 3 of them easy :P :P :P

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Im glad that the droid set is a GWP, cuz scalpers would buy all those sets before anyone could buy it.. But yeah a nice droid army building set would be welcome but i have my concerns.

I imagine there are more LEGO SW collectors now that don't have 7126 than those that do have a 7126. 23 years is a long time and there are lots of people new to the hobby. Those are the people LEGO are targetting with this GWP.

I’ve yet to see one of these low-end LSW retail sets that, following the initial frenzy, doesn’t end up becoming a shelf staple for several months. The problem is, there’s a lot of Chicken Little-ing over having to get these things on day one “in case they never restock”. Except for stuff like the Nebulon B and Bespin Duel (both of which were intended to be convention exclusives, and which had already been shipped to the US by the time the conventions got cancelled), or GWPs, if they blow through stock that fast, they will certainly make more.

you forgot Keyan Farlander in that Y-Wing

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I personally feel the battle droid carrier GWP would have made for a great set 1t around the £25 mark seeing as we don't have any Battle droid centric sets available at the moment

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Brilliant move for LEGO not so much for consumers! With the last year mini death star why would someone buy more lego than the threshold required for 1 GWP. Here you can easily scale up! I myself plan to buy at least 4x 160$ lego. Not sure how many GWP's LEGO prepared but expect them run out crazy fast..

Not at a time. Separate orders, if you want multiple of the same GWPs.

Is it confirmed that Star Wars purchases will get double insider points between May 1 and 4?

Yes but that's being pedantic. The point was that they will 'run out crazy fast' if individuals are buying multiple copies. I realise this is perfectly within the 'rules' but I have my own views as to TLG permitting this - particularly as they seem to regularly run out of GWPs within hours of a launch.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Belboz:
They’re supposed to be cancelling duplicate GWPs, and/or the system should be rejecting them. As for selling out, this is largely solved by raising the GWP threshold so people are less inclined to hoover up as many copies as they can manage. For the most part, this last bit seems to have been working. The Ideas car sold out in under 36 hours, where the Ideas sailboat did not.

Gravatar
