The Hollywood Reporter has posted a picture of a bust of Sonic the Hedgehog character Shadow on X that will be showcased at the San Diego Comic Con which commences tomorrow.

There's no word on the price or availability of 77000 Shadow the Hedgehog, but hopefully more information will be forthcoming once the show begins.

It's possible that this is the first of many sets that'll be revealed ahead of or at the show this week.

By in United Kingdom,

Why does it like like someone decapitated Shadow and stuck his head on a stick?

At least the other helmets are... helmets and not a head.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Certainly allows him to get aHEAD in any races

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seems strange that they are not starting with Sonic.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Yeah nah. Doesn’t even look good.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

He's so????

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I feel a bit let down with this one unfortunately! The head shape seems wonky, it looks like it goes flat where the eyes end instead of being fully rounded. The balloon piece feels very out of place for such an angular build. It’s a shame as the minifig got this perfectly!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Just, why? Who asked for this...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have bought almost all of the sets with minifigs in. This one looks awful and I don't know who will want it.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

It’s a bit photo-shy for head-on shots. (Pun not intended)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I respect the effort, but I don’t think this one quite hangs together at this scale.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Why? Seriously, this is just not asked for.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Is that a bust? Not a head? Doesn't any amount of chest needed, to be compliant for the definition of "bust"?

Gravatar
By in United States,

WOW that is awful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is what happens when AI creates set ideas

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not sure about this one.
I may just stick with my Marvel, Star Wars and DC ones

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

I've started regretting my self-imposed rule of getting my hands on every video-game themed Lego set a couple of times in the past, but never before as much as with this reveal...

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

The proportions seem all wrong.
His "hair" should be much bigger and more "lush"

I don't know what is happening at LEGO anymore, but it looks like they are throwing just about anything out there, even if it is total crap, in the hopes that people are brainwashed enough to buy it...

I understand that there are a lot of fans of some of the properties LEGO has in their catalogue, but as a fan, ask yourself: are the sets LEGO puts out really that good?
I for one love castle and D&D, but I did not buy the latest castle sets or the D&D set, because they are just bad...
We really need to start to become more critical, instead of simply loving it, because it is LEGO....

Sega's dubbed this year the "Year of Shadow" with him popping up in both the new movie in December and the Generations remaster in October, so it tracks they'd get something big with him out just in time.

...shame though cos honestly, I reckon it reeeeeeeeeally needed more time in the oven - there's definitely an attempt and the side-silhouette is mostly there but man, that massive panel piece kills the front view entirely. Swing and a miss imo!

Gravatar
By in Finland,

The use of the huge hot air balloon piece feels like cheating... It's not a bad piece, but it simplifies the build too much.

Glad you got your wish

By in United States,

My best friend is a huge Sonic fan, so he'll probably flip when he sees this!

That being said though, I'm not too happy with how the spikes were built. It looks like there's going to be a lot of gaps on the back of the head. The one upside is that it seems like maybe, maybe those ate printed parts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I may be biased as I find the Sonic series and characters unappealing (I'm a Mario and Mega Man guy), but man, this set is weird. At least The Mighty Bowser was an entire figure, this is just a head on a stick (like others said) and it's going to be, obviously, hilariously niche. LEGO's gotta fire their brainstorming team.

Buy sets you like, then!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, that thing is ugly....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't think this looks good at all. The back of the head looks totally missing. Looks unfinished and parts used just look top gappy and awkward. May look better in person and with different angles in photographs...unsure though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't think I've ever suggested more parts in a set before, but I feel like the forehead could have been done more creatively than one giant printed piece.
And yes, Shadow's head looks a little wonky. But let us not forget how badly the Sonic movie messed Sonic up at first.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why did they put Shadow's decapitated head on a pedestal?

Nobody asked for this. yet LEGO still keep making these...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Looks like a Pez dispenser of a decapitated head on a stick.

Seems strange why they wouldn’t start with Sonic.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Did they confuse official reference art with the one ms paint meme comic? It looks shockingly close to the drawing of shadow from that

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m not sure what the thought process of this was.

I think the biggest draw to the Sonic sets are the minifigures of the characters along with the builds for Eggman’s machines.

If you’re going to make an adult collector’s item, maybe it should’ve been something based off an older game? I’m not sure how much “head on a pike” is in demand, LEGO or not.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am honestly shocked Sega let this pass review. The shaping is all wrong, the head isn't built on a complete sphere like it should be, which makes the eyes weird, the quills are at bad lengths and positions, that nose is appalling, and the mouth print is horrific. How could Shadow's minifig head mold be one of the two best in the theme by a country mile but this set looks so horrible? I get it's the Year of Shadow, but this is the best they could do? This reminds me of the cursed constraction Wario MOC, and not in a good way...

Sega does kinda has a history of letting things slip through the cracks that really shouldn’t have.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm a bit confused by the random 3 rings. They're not in the same scale as Shadow's head, and they don't attach to any kind of display stand. They're just kind of . . . there?

Yeah, we really need to "start" being more critical in comment sections. That'll surely solve the problem, instead of just not buying it, which sends much more of a message.

And if enough people are still buying it to encourage TLG to make more (like the recent castles and DND), then perhaps the sets aren't actually bad, and they just don't fit your personal taste. If you don't like it, and 100,000 other people do like it, I'm not sure what you expect TLG to do.

I never really get the boner for criticism. TLG puts out about 900 sets each year, some of those appeal to me, some don't. I never have enough money to get all the sets that I want, so if they make more that appeal to me, it won't change that, and if they make more that don't appeal to me, it still won't change that. There will *always* be something on the shelves that I'd want to get if I had the funds. Maybe y'all are unimaginably rich and you've already bought everything you would ever want. Maybe you've entered into a contract with TLG where you have to buy every new release. But if you aren't in either of those situations, I can't understand the visceral, acid reaction that happens when something is poorly designed or just doesn't fit your taste. Is it not possible to just give it a "not for me" and go on with your day? Do you think adding more venom to the comment section is affecting or improving anything?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It shouldn't be called a bust if it is just the head.

Will it sell? Sure, just make it exclusive to SDCC and people will be rushing to pay 10x RRP for it.

You are not a "Real Lego Fan" (TM) if you do not buy three of every LEGO set (one to build, one to keep, one to sell) on Day 1 then either say it is the best LEGO set ever or complain about how terrible the set is (and, if licensed, that you don't even like the license) as if you were forced to buy it.

So just act like a big LEGO Star Wars YouTuber, sounds easy enough!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hm, just not my cup of tea, and I will say I'm confused on the basis of it. I heard musings on the price - and if true, it's fairly ridiculous. I don't necessarily think this is a bad or poorly designed set, as well as just not the best concept. I feel like a full figure would have been better received - if for nothing else than being a solid attempt at a difficult concept. I can't imagine looking at Sonic or Shadow's head and going "Yeah, this'll translate well to LEGO!" - it just doesn't.

I think this may be LEGO drawing an incorrect conclusion from the popularity of helmet sets. As a collector of figures myself, I've never quite understood the desire for busts. Very rarely would a character or design appeal to me this way. Why not go for a small statue at that point? This isn't even particularly a bust - just a head, which is all the more confusing to me. Like, a Clone Trooper helmet I can understand even if I'm not wed to the concept. A character's head is a bit more abstract.

I feel like a set akin to that classic Mickey and Minnie from a few years back would have been much better received, even with a similar design. Easy pass for me - but honestly, would have still been a pass even if it fit the bill more.

The new way to axe a theme

Gravatar
By in Finland,

This might just be the worst set of the year.
It's so badly shaped I find it hard to believe it has appeal to Sonic fans, It could work for kids but is probably too expensive and too much a display piece to excite them, and as far as general lego fans are concerned it offers absolutely nothing. I'll pick it up when it's steep discount for parts, so least it has a home in that bin to be shaped into something less terrible.

The GWP will be a 6 Foot Predator with spear figure so you can mount the head.

Exactly. Like I said before, I'm not into Sonic whatsoever, and the character design of the series (haven't even got into furries) is creepy IMHO so this being just a singular head doesn't help. I'm perfectly fine with those who like the series, but when I first saw this my first question was "how in the fricking world would this appeal to Sonic fans?" This is likely going to either be a Comic-Con exclusive or one of the worst-selling LEGO sets in existence. You have to really, I mean REALLY love Shadow and be one of those "dust-collecting LEGO video game sets in your gaming room" guys to have even the littlest sliver of interest in buying this. And I see the vast majority of the AFOL community agrees with me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Seems perfect for a con exclusive set - nobody here likes it so won’t have to complain about not being able to get one.

By which you mean "the vast majority of this comment section." While I'm not expecting there to be a huge demand for this set or anything, there aren't even a hundred comments yet, and even Brickset's entire userbase isn't the entire AFOL community.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not a Sonic fan (as many others have begun) but I actually almost like this as a sculpture, although I agree that just having the head, without even a neck let alone a bit of torso, is rather creepy. I doubt I'll actually go as far as buying it, though, especially since it sounds like being a ComicCon exclusive.

Gravatar

price $120 j/k
First I'd buy all other helmets before this...
Not for me, bu I bet lovers mario sonic sets love this...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I'm just going to wait for the review. I hope it looks better 'in the flesh' instead of this weird angle with a render. That seems to be happening more often than not, recently. Not to mention that the heads of Sonic characters are wild designs even without trying to make a lego version of them. So it's hardly this set's fault rather than my own for finding it odd looking.

Although I have to admit I laughed a bit when I first saw it. No shade to the designers, but the concept is a bit... out there.

I truly hope you dont, because it would be kinda weird. But then again, whatever works, works I guess.

I'd rather have fair criticsm then 100 comments off pointless praise.
It would also help a lot if people would actually read the comments they are replying to...

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I'm not going to scare away from just saying the truth like some other people,

This thing looks awful. Dear how did it go so south so much? The proportions are all out of whack, and not in a fun way like The Mighty Bowser or the Lego Minecraft line in general. It has some NPUs but that doesn't at ALL mean it looks good, on real life pictures I saw the printing seemed... Not very high quality, and most of all this looks just soooo sooooo BAD in all regards.

And the sad thing is that I can 100% tell you absolutely everything about it is very close to being amazing, but also absolutely everything about it looks just awful. This entire set feels like a wasted potential.

Also why didn't they start with Sonic?
