Yes! I may have to go all @purpledave and buy a ridiculous amount of those intellect devourers….

Gravatar
By in United States,

All I see is
Aarakocra = better Chima Eagle wings
Lady of Pain = Jedi Master Tiplar headtails

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Honestly this the best licensed CMF yet. All those parts are so good for medieval fantasy. I do play D&D but I'd love this even if I didn't.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Unpopular opinion: These aren't that great or interesting.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I haven't bought a licensed CMF since the Simpsons. I don't play D&D and I'm an utter ignoramus as to its lore. But these are so cool and fun that I think I'm going to go for all of them.

Also, the fact that all of the figures with realistic human skin tones have gloved hands means that they're very easy to adjust for a world with mostly yellow minifigs.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I still can't believe this is happening. Great all around, lots of cool new parts.
With Space and now this I am spoiled on the collectible figures front.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

The look great, but I have no idea, which name belongs to which minifig :D

Gravatar
By in Poland,

0 Bad figures, Lego, it will be hard to top this...

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I’m not a big CMF guy, but dnd is my jam. Can you buy full series somehow?

These series have pieces for City, Space and Castle. For me this is indeed an ""Epic Win" .

Why you think so?

The Lady of Pain must be the one in the top right corner, or at least she is when you step on her headwear barefoot.

Edit: Just for clarification, I have no clue which one is which either, so don’t take that comment seriously.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

These got leaked nearly at the start of the year!

I'll be getting the Lady of pain, and the Dragonborn paladin. They look so cool!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Whaaaa? What a totally unexpected surprise! I did not see this coming, for several months, including even before the Space CMF images first surfaced.

Also, are they really calling it Jedi Bob's Starfighter?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love how Fortnite gets everyone on here confused but *this* is the one that people are excited for?

I'm usually a CMF completionist but I do not like these or get the appeal at all. Waste of a slot.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Personally, my favorite is the hooded one with the antlers. The one with the witch’s hat and cauldron is also very good. Looks like another series I’ll be getting most of.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I don't know any of those names but they look cool.

Gravatar
By in United States,

From left to right in the final image, they are:
1. Aarakocra ranger
2. Tiefling sorcerer
3. Elf bard
4. Halfling druid
5. Gith warlock
6. Dragonborn paladin
7. Dwarf barbarian
8. Strahd von Zarovich
9. Mind flayer
10. Szass Tam
11. Tasha the Witch Queen
12. The Lady of Pain

I'll never get tired of AFOLs thinking that everything LEGO releases needs to appeal to their exact tastes... :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

I know nothing about D&D but I will be getting a full box of these. I also had to buy the D&D set because it is a great castle piece. There are a couple I don't really care for but they all have interesting parts & accessories.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

To add to what SpaceCadet said:

Aarakocra Ranger : bird-like with white wings, dog companion.
Tiefling Sorcerer : devil-like/horned head, little red dragon.
Elf Bard : pink scarf, lute.
Halfling Druid : small green guy with antlers and a bird friend.
Gith Warlock : yellow skin, eye ball staff.
Dragonborn Paladin : dragon head, shiny armor, blue and white shield.
Dwarf Barbarian : small with axe and torch.
Strahd von Zarovich : vampire with rat and sword.
Mind Flayer : tentacle head, black robes, brain creature buddy.
Szass Tam : red skeleton wizard.
Tasha the Witch Queen : ...witch with book and cauldron.
The Lady of Pain : strange spiky head, floats in the air.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

They look great. Australia gets shafted with the release date again though /:

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I wonder why the odd mix of named characters and generic figures. Could they just not decide one way or the other or not think they could get enough named characters?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

So glad Lady of Pain is included, since to most casual D&D fans the franchise is mostly Forgotten Realms while the outer planes settings are background material.

She really freaked me out when I randomly encountered her in the game Planescape Torment, which BTW is a really good video game with top tier storytelling.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Aww, cute little brain with feet.

Gravatar

Is the figure with the purple head an Ood from Doctor Who?

Either through third-party resellers who sell packs (at a premium of course) or, of you can access a store where you can handle the boxes, you can fetch the list of 2D barcodes at the bottom of the boxes from sites such as https://jaysbrickblog.com/minifig-scanner/ where you can scan individual boxes from the built-in tool (if it works, it didn't on my phone) or with a phone app that can scan those. See e.g. https://jaysbrickblog.com/news/lego-minifigures-series-26-space-qr-code-weight-identification-guide/ for the Space CMF 71046

It's actually because there are 12 character classes in the base D&D game, and the anniversary set introduced four of them. These minifigs give us 7 more, so the only class missing is the Monk (and the Artificer that was released in supplements).

Because it's a tabletop RPG, the players are the main characters, so there aren't that many iconic, unique named characters that everyone would know. Even the Lady of Pain is a bit of a stretch to include here, it's probably because a new supplement about the city she rules just came out...

But yeah, this is an absolute treat for us D&D fans, but I believe anyone with a soft spot for
the fantasy genre will enjoy these.

That does make sense actually, forgot that there wasn’t actually a bard amongst the party in the anniversary set, the Dragonborn innkeeper is a retired one.
Of the named characters, Tasha has a book named after her and Strahd seems externally popular throughout editions…the Lady of Pain and Szass Tam are a bit more of a stretch though. You’re probably right that it’s because they just did a Planescaoe book (and she is at least quite distinctive with that headgear) but Tam has lingered in the background even in the movie and largely gets displaced as “big bad evil lich” by the likes of Acererak (who also has some distinctive headgear) or even Vecna (draw on that Stranger Thinhs crowd who don’t realise the two are different characters!)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Moneys too tight to mention but I will be picking up Strahd for sure. Great set!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

If I order 12 from lego.com will that guarantee one of each or will it just be random?

also I don’t think it’s the case but it’d be cool if each of them came with a QR code to a character sheet/stat block for them

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was looking forward to this series to use the parts for fantasy armies but I find there is too much specific detail on them to have more than one character using the same parts. So I'll skip most of them.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Officially revealed... Only a full two weeks after Lego bloggers on youtube were posting full set in hand videos of them.

While I'm going to get the full set, a couple of these designs feel a little weak to me (the bard). Mindflayer though, I want to pick up a couple of simply to get more of the brain pup.

Oddly enough, in my country, i can buy a whole set of cmfs on presale with a discount. This is how I got the space cmfs. The boxes were open to verify the insides, but I wanted them open anyway. So that's how I am going to pick up this series, too. The whole bunch looks awesome!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have been playing DnD for over 40 years, love fantasy, Castle is my favorite theme, I own the DnD set. But, these figures do nothing for me. I think it is the color palette. That and the ones most interesting to me are ones I already have similar figs.

But, I am happy these exist and seem popular. I remember the days when I made custom Lego figs for DnD. Hopefully this series will spawn more.

I don't know why Lego releases CMFs this way. Why not put detailed pictures of each minifig with their names? They have two very similar "group photo" and then a photo from them side by side too far to see any detail.

I love how you not liking something makes it a waste of a slot. D&D has been experiencing a huge surge in popularity over the last few years and Baldur's Gate 3 (a D&D-licensed game) released last year to universal acclaim. From wiki: "It won many Game of the Year awards and became the first game that won GOTY awards at all five major video game award ceremonies". Not to mention that many D&D players use minifigs as stand-ins for the official/'normal' plastic minis used when playing

Gravatar
By in Austria,

I don't play D&D but I want at least a six pack. Those look fun!

Gravatar
By in United States,

So that orange lady is basically an X-Man with Nightcrawler’s tail, Gambit’s trans-pink energy blasts, and a red version of Lockheed.

These pieces will definitely be seen in the X-Men set I imagine

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love all of these so much. But I still can't believe Lego didn't make a Drizzt figure. He's basically the Batman of D&D, by far their most popular character, featured in dozens of books and comics stretching back decades. And no Elminster either? Also a shocking omission.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've bought every CMF for 14 years, ever since I bought a whole box of series 1 in 2010, when few people actually cared about them!

And this is the first time I have NO IDEA who a single one is !!

(I'll obviously still be buying a complete set though!)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m pleased for fans but they’re not really my brand of fantasy, I actually prefer Lego’s own fantasy entries for CMFs, that said some amazing detail and prints here, I’m jealous!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think these will sell out. BIY BUY BUY!

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are beautiful, truly a dream for me as I'm a huge medieval fantasy guy and this will add so much variation to my world. Planning on buying a full case, I'll probably sell off dupes of the named characters and also try and pick up a few extra Mindflayers.

Just pre-rdered a set, now that I've seen the series. From the same seller I pre-ordered the Space set (there's a reason I saved them as a seller on eBay).

No, it's a Mind Flayer. But it's head would definitely work for an Ood, if Lego still has the license.

You could still use it as an Ood... an Odd Ood.

Also, nothing but the Empty Child episodes top the human-to-Ood transformation sequence from 'Planet of the Ood' in graphic freakiness of the revived series.

If you order a pair of 6-packs, you should either get one complete set, or doubles if half the series. 50/50. If you order 12 individual, it’s a crap shoot.

Gravatar

I bet Lego wished that they had waited until they saw sales figures for the D&D set. The fact that they were left over with so many GWPs is indication at what a poor seller it was.

Even if that is true (something like that can possibly hint at poor sales but is far from confirmation), there's a difference between the sales potential of a multi-hundred-dollar set and the sales potential of cheap $5 minifigures. Cheaper sets are much easier for people to try on a whim, and if anything once these are out they might even help drive sales of the larger set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

In 1983, the D&D adventure ‘Ravenloft’ was released; the antagonist was Strahd von Zarovich. A couple of years later, ‘Unearthed Arcana’, a D&D rulebook, was published that contained a reference to Tasha and her hideous laugh. If someone back then had told me that LEGO would some day release official minifigures of Strahd and Tasha I would absolutely not have believed them!

I’m hoping to get a sealed display box, so three complete sets.

Gravatar
By in France,

Impressive serie ! Nothing left to desire. TLG have outdone themselves on this one. It is the first time I see a serie from which I want all minifigures. Even space did not achieve this.

Gravatar

Gravatar

@MegaBlocks said:

So many GWPs "left over", they decided to stop giving them out less than 12 hours after launch, leaving many people that ordered "day one" frustrated/disappointed about not getting it. Yep, that seems like a logical conclusion to draw there.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are some excellent minifigs. If they were all yellowies instead of just one I'd be more keen on them, but even still I'm more excited for them than the actual DnD set. Not sure if I'll be getting a set of them or not yet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The best part of this is that they DIDN'T include Drizzt :-)
Can't believe that some of my favorite BBEGs from campaigns in the 80s/early 90s are in LEGO form. It's so weird to me.

Gravatar

So, funny thing about (most) of these minifigs is they don't show any skin on the legs or torsos, so you can headswap them for whatever color you want. They work for any fleshtones, for yellow, or for weird alien colors. Put a robot head on them, even.

Gravatar

But I still hate them!

Gravatar

For some you got an

Sorcerer little red dragon.
Elf Bard
Halfling Druid
Warlock
Dwarf Barbarian

Have ever seen a fantasy movie?
not that hard figure out, got of heard 1 those.

even mind flayer, looks similar Dr. Who.

Gravatar

Asking as I have one CMF retailer I may use but these are not listed as a pre-order yet. I have plenty retailers I use for LEGO but not bought CMFs before so would appreciate any recommended CMF retailers.

Thanks

Gravatar

You get three full sets. And where are you seeing anything about a mystery figure? 71018-16 was a "mystery minifigure" in Series Seventeen, but that just meant he was shown as a silhouette on the packaging rather than a picture; he wasn't a chase figure or anything like that.

In theory, you should get three complete sets out of a sealed box. However there have been times when people reported sealed boxes having inconsistent contents. I also spotted a lone case of the Space wave at a store where they accidentally packed an extra minifig in the bottom layer, and it screwed up the contents of the case. It came with what would have been a free minifig for someone who purchased it as a sealed case, but I scanned all 37 boxes and only found two Space Babies.

Just want to say what a genius move it was to design this tiefling sorcerer with a kind of "belly-free" outfit, such that the otherwise unsightly skin-colored line that her tail piece generates between torso and legs actually enhances the figure!

All of the "character class" characters (four from 21348, and seven from this CMF wave) have all been carefully designed to have bodies that are gender-neutral, and which will work with any skintone you desire. None of them have bare skin on the torso or legs assemblies, including hands that are all gloved. Of course, then the question is, how well does the Tiefling tail work with any of the other ten character class bodies?

That's a great point! For me, a big part of the value of minifigure parts is their potential to be reused in other characters. I'm glad to see the DnD characters specifically trying to maximize gender- and skin-tone-neutrality. (though Lego kind of already had skin-tone-neutrality from universal yellow skins.) I hope that these design principles are applied to minifigures in other themes!

Well, the character class minifigs go one step further. I know some of them, and perhaps all of them, give you two heads, one male and one female, so you can build them either gender right out of the box. Especially with the playable game in the big set, this is important, because you can’t predict the gender mix in a role playing group. Maybe in the 70’s, but certainly not today.

I misread that as meaning the large box but, having just re-read it, it must be meaning the individual little boxes and not the large box they come in.

I'm stupid and disappointed.....but c'est la vie
