The Onyx Cinder

©2024 LEGO Group

75374 The Onyx Cinder started appearing on shelves a couple of weeks ago and has finally been added to LEGO.com today, giving us full pricing information and absolutely confirming that the set will be released tomorrow, on the 1st of August.

The set takes inspiration from the upcoming Skeleton Crew Disney+ series and costs £124.99, $139.99 or €139.99, containing 1325 pieces. I am surprised this set is actually being released before we have a trailer for the show, but the Onyx Cinder and its minifigure crew look great.

What do you think of the set? Let us know in the comments.

Look, it’s max rebos cousin, who has legs!

Who may also look a little like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've seen this set on shelves for weeks and it hasn't even been announced?

Ohhhhh, Skeleton Crew is a Star Wars thing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Finally, a Lemony Snicket minifig.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Never heard of it.....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The fact that there's only this one image on the Lego website (at the moment anyway) really makes it look like someone forgot and quickly threw it together just in time for tomorrow.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hadn't heard of Skeleton Crew before I'd seen this set leaked weeks ago, and honestly I've not been able to research anything about it that appeals to me. The lack of info on the series isn't very promising...

As for the lego set, compared with the promo pictures of the in series ship, this looks a total mess. Got fears its going to be another shelf warmer.

Looks like the Rock cargo ships from Shadow Raiders.

By in Canada,

This set looks horrible. I didn't even know this was Star Wars. Why release the set before the new show even comes out? Are they just hoping people will buy it because they're banking on the Star Wars name? After the multiple bad shows, especially The Acolyte, I don't think they can bank on the name anymore.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I'm not into Star Wars but I love love love this space ship design (maybe the colors are a little dull, but the shaping is great!) - I just wish it was a little bigger.

It was probably supposed to come out with the show, but i am guessing the show may have been delayed,
Or given how little has been said about it, possibly cancelled.

Either way, not LEGOs fault.
Also this will have been in production before Acolyte came out.

What on earth is that mess supposed to be?

I think its supposed to be,
It strikes me as a junker ship type thing.
Or a owned by some not so well off civilians that can barely afford to keep the ship flying (think Serenity from Firefly)

Gravatar
By in United States,

As someone who's actually liked the Star Wars shows, after The Acolyte I'll definitely be waiting to watch the show before I commit to this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly I don't think it looks bad at all, I especially like that it has a decent interior. Probably won't be getting it though unless I end up loving the show, which I might not even watch unless I'm bored and have nothing better to do.

By in Norway,

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has been delayed multiple times, but it was officially announced as coming out on Disney+ on the 3rd of December. This was announced just a little over an hour ago. Still no trailer though…

For those who are wondering, the show is set in the same time period as the Mandalorian, ie the time between the Original Trilogy and the Sequels. From what I’ve heard it’s good, but then again the same was said about Seth Green’s Star Wars Detours. There are reportedly 39 completed episodes that are just rotting away in some vault, all because it didn’t fall in line with Disney’s corporate vision of what Star Wars is.

God I miss the time when I believed the world was a place where good wins out.

That was pretty much my point that that very short article is pretty much everything you can find about the series and it tells you pretty much nothing.

First time I’ve ever heard of this ship. Whatever.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m very interested in this build. I was afraid that it might be another Knights of Ren Transport without a proper interior.

They should put wheels on it and rebrand as a UCS Mouse Droid.

Kenobi: "We'll take it. It's a better deal than paying 17,000 to some nerf-herder and a walking carpet"

scruffy-looking guy: "Ship's in Docking bay 93. Can't miss it, it's parked next door to a guy wanted by Jabba the Hutt's ship... if you can call that hunk of junk a ship!"

Kenobi *visibly troubled*: "...I feel a great disturbance in the canon... as if millions of fans cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced..."

By in United States,

Nice, another big overpriced set to be a shelf warmer like the Justifier.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I saw this for sale at Target several days ago. No, it wasn't street dated, but it wasn't selling either as many of the other new August 1 Star Wars sets were already sold or had just one remaining. Either people didn't realize it was new, wasn't sure what it was exactly, or they just have no interest in it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think it looks really neat. I'm hoping those engines pivot together via a mechanism of some sort.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Skeleton Crew has no trailer, Disney must be very worried about the series if even the Acolyte had a lot of trailers.

From a video I saw, there is a little black technic piece that is just visible in the middle of the top of the ship. Flipping that piece forward or back rotates all engines together, in what I felt was a very cool and satisfying way.

This doesn't look nearly as overpriced or unexpected as the Justifier. The ppp is pretty good and it's the hero ship from the show.

Looks really ugly and messy to look at. I won't be getting it.

Gravatar

Looks that it might have space inside.

If it's on sale at a discount, and I have nothing else to buy from the Lego Horde, then perhaps I shall consider it.

*spoiler*
I won't get it.

Gravatar

We don't even have a FREAKING TRAILER for the show yet! The model looks fantastic, but literally nobody cares and nobody will care until we get at least SOME little morsel of information about Skeleton Crew.

Seems odd to me that Lego is selling this ship for a show that isn't out for months, and The Acolyte has come and gone and Lego released nothing for it.
As I was watching The Acolyte, I couldn't help but try to predict future Lego sets, like the Jedi ship, or Qimir's ship. Both were nice designs that would make good sets. Maybe next year?

Jamie and the magic torch, which leads into Cuckoo Land.

I have no idea what this thing is so it just looks like a mess of parts to me.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

To me it looks like a pretty uninteresting grey hunk. I do not understand why they dont produce more sets from good shows like Andor or Clone Wars Season 7 and Bad Batch. The amount of sets for these shows were laughable at best.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I understand that this is a licensed set, and so it's based on a star wars ship designed by Disney/Lucasfilm before being handed to LEGO. With that in mind, I'm tired of gray ships. There's so many more interesting and colorful things LEGO could be doing in the Star Wars universe. There's a dozen podracers from TPM just waiting to be a subtheme. They're colorful, individually unique, swoosh-able, and exclusive figures for each pod if you're into that kind of thing!

No, this character is an Ortolan, the same species as Max Rebo. Ketwol is a Pacithhip.

While on the subject of Star Wars species-based pedantry, the white-haired minifigure in this set is intended to be a Miraluka, a species without eyes. LEGO has given her eyes though, for some reason.

Max Rebo had really small black beady eyes didn’t he? I think i don’t like these eyes on this fig then.

That other fig has a second face print with goggles

Skeleton Crew was heavily delayed. Likely LEGO wanted a set out after the show, but then the show got pushed behind the set.

I bet we see Acolyte sets April 2025.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

From what I know, the Miraluka do have eyes, they just cover them for cultural reasons
If a Miraluka is not brought up in the culture, there's no reason for them to cover their eyes.
The show involves a bunch of children & (presumably a father figure) Jude Law (good match on the minifig)

As would I, but I'm pretty sure that's an IP that Lego wouldn't do, considering what one of the main Characters (Inara) does for a living, among other things.

Is Skeleton Crew about a bunch of pretentious trust fund babies turned art thieves?

Because that’s what I see. Would it kill Star Wars to have ships that aren’t gray? That’s the whole reason I bought that Bad Batch shuttle. And I love that set with the E-Wing and that yellow fighter.

Color is awesome.

There was a trailer at Celebration London last year. Gave off an 80’s Amblin vibe, sort of Flight of the Navigator/Goonies/E.T. in Star Wars not LA or Oregon.
Literally no mention that one of the kids was playing a blue elephant, it was only when I realised everyone else on stage had their face in the trailer that it became clear he’d spent the whole shoot in a mo-cap rig.
Imagine having that agent: “Hey kid you’re going to be in Star Wars…”
“I can’t wait for my friends and family to see me on screen!”
“About that…”

By in Netherlands,

The slightly negative consensus from what I read in the other comments somewhat surprises me. Maybe it's because of the one photo, maybe because of the many unknows about the show. It probably is going to suck like Kenobi, Boba Fett and the Acolyte, but they might surprise me this time.

I've seen the review of this set weeks ago and I like it! A real playset, for Star Wars! A tad expensive, but the play features seem nice and it looks like a solid build (what the Knights of Ren ship wasn't). I am for sure getting this once it reaches the 25% off threshold (20% when I get impatient).

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

A part of the trailer shown at D23 or a Star Wars con leaked nearly a year ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o4JQcKb-ac

Tellingly despite being a leaked trailer of a new Star Wars show it has just 27k views after 11 months! Nobody seems to know about this show.

The idea is basically a Star Wars version of an 80s Amblin studio movie. Apparently it is said not to be a kids show but a show about kids if you get the idea, basically Stranger Things meets Star Wars.

Whatever else I did laugh at the continuing trend of a lack of imagination in Star Wars with a Space suburb and Space car on wheels. Even things like the street lights seem like something from modern Earth than a Galaxy Far Away.

This is a trend with Disney Star Wars, aliens, even giant ones like the big guy in the Jedi survivor game talk like humans with American accents (Or sometimes various British accents, mostly PR, even now and then something else slips through) and weird stuff like on the Mandalorian the Quarren wearing Arran jumpers. (First why would they need them but also, they're just cable knit Arran jumpers they aren't just inspired by them they're just that because you know, fishermen in the real world traditionally wore them so the Quarren, fully aquatic species will wear them too so you know they're fishermen!) Or the creature he is escorting just being a giant anthropomorphic gecko, not inspired by, just a gecko. Same in the Acolyte, they have an Otterman, he isn't inspired by an Otter, he is just an anthropomorphic otter! Or in The Last Jedi the people on Space Monaco (Itself and the games just being the ones from the real world) are sometimes wearing 4 piece suits! This combined with the aliens often not having "alien" accents and fewer and fewer speak their own languages is a bit weird, have they lost their imaginations?

Gravatar

@SkeltonDance08 if you're willing to sit through an hour long video on the subject there actually is a production reason for Star Wars aliens to change over the years, and most of it is tied from going from practical effects to CGI, then back to practical. https://youtu.be/Vu8N134f-DU?si=QKkcinxY0FkM4i7H

In the case of the otter guy in The Acolyte, Tynnans have been around since 1979. Acolyte hardly introduced them at all. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Tynnan/Legends

Gravatar
By in United States,

Man I'm so torn on Skeleton Crew. When it was first announced the name alone made me more excited for it than any of the other show's they'd announced. A rag tag crew barely operating an understaffed ship fending for survival? Sounds awesome!

Then more details came out and it turns out that rag tag crew is... a bunch of children. If it was an animation I'd still be on board, but live action child actors flop much more than they hit. So I started to be worried the show would either have poor acting, be annoying, or both.

And now I'm at the point where I'm probably not going to even bother. The live action Disney+ shows have been so boring. Andor and the first two seasons of Mandalorian were good, but everything else has been either mediocre or outright terrible. I've been burned too many times and I just can't be fussed anymore. I'm sure when 3 or 4 shows have piled up I'll go back and check them out, but I'm not renewing my subscription for another 8 episode let down.
