Mythical Pegasus

©2024 LEGO Group

A future gift with purchase has been revealed at LEGO.com. In addition to the titular beast, the 278-piece Creator 3-in-1 set 40691 Mythical Pegasus also builds a dragon and a bird.

There's no word on availability or spending threshold yet, but I suspect it'll be available later this month.

View pictures of all three creatures after the break.

This is really cute, and a great companion to last year's unicorn!

It actually shouldn't be that hard to modify the older set into a unicorn Pegasus... though this raises the question of what a Pegasus with a unicorn horn is called?

As I learned from watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic with my daughter, such a beast is called an alicorn.

This looks like great fun!

That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

I need it.

By in New Zealand,

I like the pillar, bird and Pegasus. Quite a good GWP.

Although the dragon is, ugh, creepy to say the least.

A Unisus? Pegicorn?

Gravatar
By in United States,

According to the interwebs, winged unicorns are often associated with evil alignments. Notwithstanding the name, an example would be 71457.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

In Farmville it was called pegacorn.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The bird's the best of the lot. The dragon's not horrible. Um, the unicorn... I thought it was wearing tennis shoes or something.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Cute little set, nice GWP. I especially like that it's a 3 in 1

Huh, didn't know about the evil bit. You learn something new everyday!

@Ridgeheart - you never fail to make me laugh.

If I happen to find one of these for a reasonable sum on eBay, it will DEFINITELY be acquiring a spare Unikitty horn!

I've always known it as a pegacorn, but, being as how it's mythical, anyone can use any name they like!

It's a bit like "how many legs do dragons have?"
As many or as few as you fancy.

What IS certain is that a pegacorn is the most FABULOUS of creations.

This reminds me of something my dad says a lot (usually it's said just to confuse people, but I digress) ANYWAY: 'All unicorns are green, and all unicorns are purple.' (It only makes sense when you realize Unicorns don't exist, so they can be any color you like, rainbow-like, or no color at all.)

I guess Lego has learned with the title of this set that you don't need to specify a pegasus is a flying horse.

My Greek mythology is a bit rusty, but I'm pretty sure Pegasus was the name of a particular winged horse, rather than a species. You'd probably be best trying to add a winged prefix or suffix to unicorn. If you're sticking with Latin, then ala is wing, so alicorn as some people have suggested isn't bad, though it loses the 'one' part. I'd go with unicornala or unicornales, or unicornalatus. My Latin grammar is even rustier than my Greek mythology, so I'm not sure of the best way to combine the words.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Pegasus I see, the bird I see, I don't see the dragon, it just looks like a young, rather odd looking bird.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Cute & nice companion for the unicorn. Pity about the hooves, but I guess they work within the limitations of available pieces & stability

Gravatar
By in United States,

If they had just added the trans-blue flame piece then the Dragon might have actually looked a bit more like an actual dragon.

Alicorn "

This.

As every Brony knows, when Twilight Sparkle got her wings she became an Alicorn.

Yes, I’m the father of three girls, why do you ask?

It’s not a problem you need to solve as there are two existing words for it: ‘alicorn’, which has already been mentioned in this thread, and ‘pegacorn’.

Incidentally, you’re right that ‘Pegasus’ in Greek mythology was the name of a particular winged horse, not the type of creature it was. He had a brother called ‘Chrysaor’. However, ‘pegasus’ has come to mean any winged horse. It’s similar to their mother’s name, ‘Medusa’. Originally one of the three Gorgon Sisters, the type of monster that ‘Medusa’ was is now eponymous with all such creatures in speculative fiction and games.

I don't have any real intention of getting this, but I like that pedestal build.

Winged unicorn, as it turns out. Pegasus was the name of a particular winged horse, not a species.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winged_unicorn

Also, Lieutenant Commander Susan Ivanova was a unicorn? That explains so much!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The pegasus and bird are cute. That dragon though...

I thought we already did the 80s winners.

Clash of the Titans was a favorite growing up, though I didn’t realize it was censored for TV until watching it with my kids recently. Lol

Ha! they even posed it the same. I wonder if this is a six-in-one then?

Would have been nice to see the pedestal parts reused somehow in each model.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not exactly a must have, but a very good looking model. And, being a 3-in-1, it won't put off people with multiple sets on their wishlist who don't normally want duplicates. All in all, a perfect GWP.

Same here! Way back in elementary school, even. It’s kinda funny how many TV edits I’ve watched and committed to memory, only to realize later what was edited out.

@peterlmorris:
Or there’s my situation, where we had the Star Wars and Tron picture storybooks, which I read so often that I remembered “watching” one of the Tatooine scenes that got cut from SW:ANH, and there were whole sections of Tron that I didn’t remember being in the film.
