Christmas GWPs revealed
Posted by Huw,
LEGOLAND Malaysia has revealed two forthcoming gifts with purchase on its Facebook page.
40701 Ballerina & Nutcracker Scene and 40702 Christmas Picture Frame will be free at the theme park during December and I think it's safe to say that they'll be available at LEGO.com around the same time as well.

Not "and" but "or".
Interesting.
Does anyone here ever use a Lego picture frame? It's the kind of thing that sounds good in theory but can't see it work beyond the context of a kid's bedroom....

It's an easy skip indeed

I have one in my study with a photo of my grand-daughter. She has a DUPLO one at home with a photograph of me and her Nana.
So that looks like it's about €75 spend for the picture frame 40702 and about €150 spend for the ballerina 40701.
So about €75 threshold for the picture frame, and €160 for the Ballerina?
Nice little sets for what they are, but for once I don't mind these being GWP. Especially that photo frame, not hard to make something like that yourself. I do honestly like the idea though.
No on frame. Meh, I guess, perhaps, I suppose, on ballerina.
"Is this it? Is this all you can conjure, Sarumon?!"
My wallet laughs scornfully at these meager, half-hearted attempts. Pshaw!

There seems to be an overlap period between the 13th and 31st so presume no stacking offers...hence the "or".
Wonder which one will be available for Insider Weekend and Black Friday onward for a week, while the other would be available after that until Xmas. If they follow typical pattern.
As someone who collects every Christmas set, these feel like a huge letdown. I was waiting until December to pick up the Nightmare Before Christmas set and the Christmas GWPs. Now I will happily just wait until something better comes along.
I'm not going to place an order to get it, but I like the details and mechanism in 40701, tempted to track it down on the aftermarket.

I've got 40173, but I have no idea if I'll ever put a picture in it. I do like the touch that it can be built in landscape or portrait orientation, wonder if that's doable with 40702.
Relax, folks, these aren't the Brick Friday promos.
The nutcracker one is quite lovely.

I like the ballerina, so I'll have to contemplate if there are sets in that price range I might want to pick up.

I lived in Singapore and they didn't allow GWP stacking as they were Certified Stores rather than actually owned by Lego - Malaysia is the same. Chances are high they'll be both be given in the usual way over in the west.
Pass
Not a GWP, but similar to previous years, a Christmas fleece+sherpa blanket is also available to purchase:

Not good. Not good at all.
Just look at 40293, 40292, 40139, 40254 to see some examples of what previous years' have delivered.
As the Bunk would say, "how far we done fell".
Lego is releasing more GWP than sets

I'm not particularly impressed with either of them. Past xmas gwps were a lot more impressive, 40410, 406403, 40604, 40139, 40223, 40292, especially the one that got cancelled 40489.
Pass, probably end up on eBay, depending on purchase timetable.

By 406403, did you mean 40603?
I've been holding off on a few larger purchases just to see what sort of GWP I could get, now I kinda wish I'd got a few more spare houses of the world kits or Jules Verne tributes. As far as holiday GWP sets go, they've done much better in the past, these really fail to inspire either as models or sources of spare/rare parts. Maybe my opinion will improve once I see a detailed review but first impression really failed to impress.

My Lego picture frames are essentially spare parts, but I'm sure some people use them as intended.
