Disney Advent Calendar - Day 20

Posted by ,

The last two days have been Encanto themed, and with the days running short in the calendar, I think there's not a lot of mystery as to what we'll find behind today's door.

Sure enough, it's our last princess (as the four year old in the family assures me) of the calendar, Mirabel. Like the other microdolls, the printing on Mirabel's dress is fantastic. She comes equipped with a present, but like some of the others, there were enough extra pieces for another little present, so I included it here.

The microdolls in this calendar have been excellent!

No, it wasn't much of a surprise, but still a nice gift to end on.

Now, the final four days. I've been waiting all month for this!

Because we can't just have 'heroines' they have to be marketed as royalty for increasingly convoluted reasons. Maybe they don't want to huse the word 'heroine' because of its other usage...

Looks like Mirabel's has a 'gift' after all.

Also is the princess from Wish going to appear or are we already acting like that movie didn't happen because of the box office?

I think Disney is acting like that movie didn't happen.

Apparently, marketing had some issue with the phrase "DISNEY HEROINE"."

So, Disney defines language and terms now? What a great time to live in...

You know what, let's give this a try. Why don't you go out into the streets now and shout "I AM DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR SOME HEROINE", and see what kind of reaction you'll get. Be sure to loudly curse the name of Walt Disney as burly men in uniform wrestle you to the ground, it's going to make the news-article so much more interesting."

The emphasis was on DISNEY heroine. Besides English using the same word for female hero and as the name of a drug (which is kinda dumb imho), Mirabel could als just be a main character.
Call me old-fashioned, but in my universe, a princess is the daughter of a ruling aristocrat (or their offspring's significant other, if they're married). And I've watched the film; Mirabel doesn't rule.

Not the same word. Homophones, but not homonyms. The other word is heroin without the second “e”.

If so, then not officially. Makes the warlords, not Princesses, kings or queens. Besides, Mirabel is terrible at doing magic, so she DOESN'T RULE AT ALL!

I'm holding out for a hero till the morning light
She's gotta be sure and it's gotta be soon
And she's gotta be hotter than light.... hotter than light

Mirabel isn't officially considered a Princess. Disney actually seems to have a very strict ruling on what counts as a "Disney Princess". They must:

1: Be, by some stretch of the imagination, be considered royalty. Moana and Pocahontas are Princesses because their fathers are tribal chiefs. Mulan is considered a Princess because, in the direct-to-video sequel, she was ALMOST married to a prince, but ended up marrying a general instead. Bit of a stretch, but the more important factor is...

2: Be a box office success. I forget what the exact number is, but Wish sure as heck didn't make it. Rest assured, if Wish had succeeded, Asha would be considered a Princess. Another example of this rule in Princess Elyonwy (or however its spelled) from the Black Cauldron. She is undoubtedly a princess, but since that movie failed in the box office, she is not considered a "Disney Princess".

I guess Disney considers Mirabel to be too far of a stretch from a "princess".

There also appears to be some consideration of whether or not you’re the main character in your story, and whether or not you meet all the criteria in your first appearance. And you can’t be _too_ successful or they’ll just do you like Frozen.

All this arguing over what makes a princess, whether in real-world or Disney terms... The set name is "LEGO Disney Advent Calendar 2024," not "LEGO Disney Princess Advent Calendar 2024," and looking at the set images, I don't see the word "Princess" anywhere.

Uhm, read the review and you'll know why we talk about princesses.

Pah, a king is just someone whose grandad was a really good warlord. The Madrigals have a chunk of land they run as unquestioned sovereigns, makes ‘em royalty as much as it does Moana and her family.
And like 90% of the Disney princesses can’t do magic, I object to that being a qualifier!

Yes, but Jasmine proves that this isn't a requirement.

They aren’t for Deadpool and Blind Al, either.
