Disney Advent Calendar - Day 24

Posted by ,

We've made it! The last day of the inaugural Disney calendar! I have some thoughts about the calendar as a whole, but first, let's take a look at the final day of the calendar. There's no mystery at all as to what will be behind today's door.

It's the top of the calendar and looks very grand indeed with three spires topped with gold. I also like that there's some red and green holiday touches.

Put together, the castle looks like quite nice. In some ways, it's too bad that the whole build is strung out over four days, but it does look quite impressive. The Disney expert in the family was a lot more interested in these builds put together than any of the individual segments.

For those wondering what the calendar might look like on the play mat, here's my take.

Overall thoughts

The Disney expert in our family loved the microdolls. If you're looking for Disney microbuilds, this was definitely the calendar for you! The microbuilds were good and easily recognisable from their respective movies. If you were looking for more of a festive feel from the calendar, you were most likely disappointed. With the exception of a Christmas tree, there were no festive builds to be had, save for the presents that came with most of the characters.

This calendar was probably a little on the expensive side for the $45 price tag, but I expect most Disney-philes aren't likely to quibble about the price.

It's been fun exploring the Disney calendar with you! Until next year.....

Merry Christmas!

By in Denmark,

I really liked it. I am sad that Rapunzel wasn’t chosen as one of the figures, but the stuff has been quite interesting. Hope it’ll return next year.

To clarify the topic that’s been going on through December: Mirabel is no princess. She does not have any royalty, neither is she considered a part of the Disney Princess franchise - just like Anna and Elsa (Frozen is such a strong franchise that it can survive on its own). The only reason Encanto can even be in this theme is due to the rebranding of the theme LEGO did in 2017, going from Disney Princess (pink boxes, 2014-2016) to Disney (blue boxes, 2017-now). The Disney Princess franchise consists of Snow White, Aurora, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel, Moana/Vaiana, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Raya and Tiana from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Merida from Pixar Animation Studios. Raya is the latest addition to the franchise and became a Princess in August 2022, even though the movie was released in March 2021. :)

Thank you @MeganL

If Lego were testing the water as to whether a Disney Advent Calendar would work, I can it coming back next year.

I loved the microscale castle. It made the whole thing worthwhile, for me.

The castle looks pretty cool. Overall the calender did something different from the others. No microbuilds of toys or vehicles or random household opbjects. The final image shows just how varied the ed result now looks. So, overall a decent one in my opinion.

I will instead turn the other cheek.... because that's the side where my glass of nog is located.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I had an interesting conversation with our Disney expert on princesses. When I mentioned that some had suggested that any of the characters weren't princesses, I was roundly assured that they were wrong. In fact, I was told that because they were included in this calendar is what made them princesses. So with that unassailable four-year-old logic, I have no other opinions on the matter.

The orange wooden dock on the playmate kind of looks like a brick separater

Meh. I’m with the little girl who walked up to our DSO layout and loudly asked, “Where’s Deadpool?”

He's the Man-At-Arms of Blacktron.

No, but Disney is. Just as the greeting card industry invented mothers, Disney invented princesses, and the need to be them. And they’ve never called Mirabel a Princess, they’ve never given her a coronation ceremony, they’ve never sold her under the Disney Princess brand, and they’ve even kicked Esmeralda out of the club. And Colombia isn’t exactly known as a hotbed of royalty.

My girls both enjoyed it a lot, but I'm glad I picked it up for $20 instead of $45!
