Spider-Man Advent Calendar - Day 19

Posted by ,

Yesterday's small table of food joined the roster of rather underwhelming items from the Spider-Man Advent Calendar, which has offered a fairly even mix of good and bad days thus far.

I hope for one of the better ones today...

Green Goblin is the second Spider-Man villain to appear in the Advent Calendar, sporting his classic ragged garb. This minifigure is available in several sets and looks fantastic, featuring a dual-moulded element for his characteristic hat and ears, while the torso captures his traditional comic book design well. I wish the legs were printed though, with scuffs to match the torso.

More importantly, however, this minifigure feels like a missed opportunity. It would surely have been easy to reimagine Green Goblin as an elf for the festive season and dressing as an elf to torment Spider-Man at Christmas definitely seems like something the Goblin would do!

This minifigure even comes with a medium nougat sack, so the opportunity to turn him into one of Santa's elves for the Advent Calendar seems very obvious. Nonetheless, this is an excellent minifigure, including an incredibly expressive double-sided head and an orange pumpkin bomb.

Overall - Though a good minifigure in its own right, this version of Green Goblin represents a missed chance for some festive theming.

A repeat demonic elf with no holiday garb is a very Grinch move, Lego.

What's in the bag? all the Hoo-pudding and roast beast?

I've always thought Jim Carrey and William Dafoe looked kinda similar...

Small rant: I *hate* this outfit and that it's appeared in several Lego Spider-Man sets. This isn't the Goblin's "classic" garb and, as best I can tell, it's a redesign that first appeared in the early 2000s. The Goblin's traditional outfit is a purple one-piece, gloves, and "elf" boots over green arm and leg chainmail sleeves. The version in 76057 is much more traditional.

I was wondering about this. The chestplate made me think of that Humberto Ramos redesign, but the other details don't really line up, so I'm not sure if this is actually based on anything in particular or if it's just an original design. The same goes for the two-tone-green Doctor Octopus.

I feel your pain. I really hate when Goblin and Captain America get the giant scale-mail, which has been most of the last 20 years or so.

By in Netherlands,

At least it's Spider-Man centric again.
0% christmas-y though.

They should've made the headpiece a red Santa hat instead.
