Tic Tac Toe

A forthcoming gift with purchase that will be of interest to Classic Space fans has been revealed at LEGO.com.

5008897 Tic Tac Toe contains five orange and five white classic spacemen and a board on which to play what we in the UK call noughts and crosses.

There's no word on availability, but it's most likely to be later this month around Thanksgiving.

Great. I imagine it will be popular. Though I wish TLG had gone for a more sought after colour. Green, Purple or Brown would have been cool.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Why white? They could have done a new colour of spaceman, but instead they chose WHITE???

Is there an angry face on the other side for when they lose?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Why orange? The original colours are white and red, but instead they chose ORANGE?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Seems to be rather uninspired, just a random concept with classic space slapped on it so it sells.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I thought it was a transmat stand at first, I can use the 10th spaceman in the 31152 kit

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I can already feel the resellers of the orange Classic Spaceman crying out in terror.
:-)

Kind of strange that they use the visor of the motorcycle helmet on this, the Classic Space helmet 2.0. Doesn't even seem to fit properly.
And why no airtanks?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

What’s the smal rollerskate thingy?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

No air tanks again? Why would they do that??? I have a bunch of both white and orange spacemen, but I'd have still been all over this set. But no air tanks is a dealbreaker for me. Why does Lego seem to make it intentionally difficult to collect complete clasic spacemen?

It seems even more egregious that they added an extra part to the spacemen that wasn't needed, but left out a vital part that was.

By in Hungary,

I guess it will be very popular, finally we get something classic space in the year of space theme. However it will kill the exclusivity of orange space fig if it is important for someone.

The 'no airtanks' is probably too keep the resellers in business

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I saw the leak last week, and thought what is the point of it apart from to build armies of Classic Spacemen. I'd have preferred it if they did 10x different coloured spacemen in one pack instead of pretending this is a game.

I imagine airtanks get in the way if anyone does try to play this as a game if you are constantly pulling off and pushing minifigures on to the board.

Plus they are 19p each on online PAB for orange, 13p for white. Add them when placing an order to get this promo.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Everyone here is complaining about the colors but I'm just glad we get another space minifig battlepack. Lighten up people.

I am angry about this free thing.

You can order them on PAB I think

Because white goes great with orange!

Personally, I can't be happier that more orange spacemen are being released. I just have no love for scalpers and similar speculators.

They put one on upside down

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They're all extremely happy. It must be that sense of euphoria you get before you die when you're playing noughts and crosses in space and realise you forgot your air tanks.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I think they had a lot of orange spaceman leftovers at PaB. They have been available there for quite some time.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Weird that some of the visors on upside down. At first I thought it was stylistic to differentiate the teams but then noticed its random across both colours.

Hardly a battlepack when it's a GWP

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I would like to know if there is gonna be some new, big?, interesting space set that will be released, to accompany this GWP. Any rumors on that? That are allowed to be mentioned here?

I'm happy that orange spacemen are being released, but I'm not happy that orange spacemen are being released when TEAL or FLAME YELLOWISH ORANGE or TRANS CLEAR spacemen could be released instead.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Cute lil promo! Shame about the lack of airtanks but at the same time they're 19p apiece on PAB so that's, what, under two quid to get em kitted up? Easy enough to slam into an order, if the threshold's low enough for this I'm in.

The book with the orange space guy isn't even that expensive or hard to get.
Found a big pile at WH Smiths the other week for £10 each.
Not sure how there is such a big second hand market for the guy, especially with him somehow selling for more than the book.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The missing air tanks and them not having the traditional smiley faces are a bit unfortunate and I'm sure the game board could've been designed to be a whole lot better looking than it is. However, ten neo Classic Space dudes is definitely nice for a GWP, as long as the threshold isn't too high.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

As a Space fan, I'm not impressed. They used white and orange colours rather some new ones. Why they put visors on classic helmets? And where are the airtanks?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

When I first saw the picture I thought it was something to do with (Australian) Channel 9.

Gravatar

First emotion: aghh lazy reuse of existing colours

Second emotion: let's buy them

They used up all the oxygen in advance so they don't have to carry the tanks along while doing activity. Hence, no airtanks but inappropiate happiness.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

That is something special just like GWP should be! Complainers gonna complain always
10 minifigs in yellow box is new record, I hope it won't be for 6000 points or something

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

That's a LOT of spacemen. I'm starting to think they keep doing CS style astronauts because they require very few prints (you know, because the originals came out shortly after the first articulated minifigs ever) and might be cheaper to do?

That said... I'm not complaining that we're getting this generous amount of minifigs in one set. I really hope this makes people realize we are being showered in Classic Space (and only classic space for the most part) right now.

It's a shame it's a GWP. Hopefully this one will be widely available and people who want it will be able to pay a decent price for it on the aftermarket.

Instead of part 1745 Plate, Round 1 x 2 Half with 1 Stud (Jumper) part 4150 Tile, Round 2 x 2 should be used. Studs are no good for a playability.

That's an odd opinion. Why wouldn't you want the pieces to stay where you put them?

Orange is the best color, so...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Like it a lot. I'll be buying this one on eBay, I think.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well considering the bodies aren't pressed together tightly either, I'm guessing they paid someone to throw these together and didn't understand how to build with LEGO. Seems odd since they put the visors upside down sometimes. You'd think with a company of this scale people would know what they are getting into when asked to put together a promo for a photoshoot. But whatever.

I likely won't have enough funds to actually get this freebie, but I don't know if I need it. I don't need any more white bodies and I only have the one orange one sealed in the book, but I don't know if I can justify the threshold to get this one.

Would've been a great time to bring back the classic black. Weren't all the parts for these just taken off the pick a brick.

Different torso, but the orange spacemen remind me of the Lego Universe Nexus Astronaut 2853944

They used these guys for a GWP already! How redundant and boring this offer is. Uninteresting color choice of the Spaceman and no air tanks is a no go for me.

I, for one, realize that we are definitely NOT being showered with CS, very far from it. Lego produced a very important contingent of space themed sets across multiple themes: none of them were sporting the classic helmet and/or classic torso; result: CS shower is completely dry. These two colours (white and orange) have been widely available and brings nothing new to CS aficionados. The only true potential chance we have at having some "tiny drops" of CS is when the new Ideas set comes out with a new colour of a spaceman. There are also rumours of an upcoming Blacktron set but even Blacktron spacemen don't have a classic torso and classic helmet.

Why not do Standard Blue? Benny has a worn out torso and cracked helmet, it's a pain to get good condition blue men.

Funny though, the orange Space "body" of the minifigure is reported as "no longer available" on Pick-A-Brick, and goes for around $10 on Bricklink.
I definately going for this one.....
