An image of 40786 Micro Command Centre has been added to the building instructions page on LEGO.com.

This set is based on the Micro Rail Command Centre designed by Falkorich, which won an Ideas competition to become an Insiders reward last year, alongside another yet-to-be-released model.

While not necessarily the Classic Space 'monorail' some LEGO Space fans might dream of, this looks to be a fun model, designed to scale with 40712 Micro Rocket Launchpad. I expect it will be available from the LEGO Insiders rewards centre in March.

What do you think of this set? Let us know in the comments.

By in Canada,

Oh my!

How about that for scaling down. If the decorated parts are printed all is not lost...

Will still get it when the time comes.

(probably 70 parts just for the tracks)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly love this, will definitely pick it up. I do not have the original but I appreciate the homages.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I understand changes had to be made but lego could at least have used the tracks instead of this.

Want. Need. Must have.

You keep using this word “monorail”. I do not think it means what you think it means.

What we REALLY want is this in minifigure scale.., aka MONORAIL!

They aren't printed (except the baby torso). See images on Reddit and co.

By in New Zealand,

Very cute! I hope this series of micro-scale Classic Space sets keeps on going!

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Is this a new baby? Seems like the logo on the torso is blue, not gold like these other. Anyway, cool set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Obligatory “we have monorail at home” joke.

This looks quite fun.

The roller coaster tracks used in the initial Ideas submission are big expensive parts, and the entire set needs to scale up to fit with them, making the whole thing even more expensive.

6990 featured Futuron. This is like if Classic Space had a kiddie train.

To go with 70816 Spaceship, Spaceship SPACESHIP! we can now have Monoraaaaaiiil! Monoraaaaaaiiiii! MONORAAAAAIIIIIL! (Mono-d'oh!)

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Pretty but not for me, especially if released as a GWP with a stellar threshold.
I think I need a real minifig scale monorail. Please make a re-edition of it at a reasonable price, as done with the Galaxy Explorer and the Blacktron renegade.

Gravatar
By in Japan,

Not quite as cool as 40712, but I do still really like it. Just hope they keep it below 1434 points....

If they restrickt it to one for each customer it should be available for some time.
That did the trick for Tic-Tac-Toe

Mono means one and rail means rail.

Gravatar

Not sure I'm into the mix of CS and Futuron color schemes... but obviously I'll have to get it. I love this micro trend, it's easier on the wallet and the display space!

Unfortunately, that does not seem likely given precedent and close inspection of the available image. @R0Sch beat me to it.

I really love these throwback sets, even though Classic Space was an era that passed me by. (1st heard of Lego Monorail in 2016!)

Yeah, but look at the image again. It’s either a bi-rail (aka “regular train”), or a mono-groove. Mono-trough? Slot car racer? Basically, it’s just the minecart track from Minecraft, with two lines of 1x tile spaced one stud apart.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I thought the monorail description was a goof on Lego’s behalf, but I’m glad to see it’s just Brickset throwing it around.

I am aware that this is not technically a monorail, but that is obviously what it is designed to evoke. Relatively little that LEGO has released and described as a monorail is a true monorail, especially in recent years. 41347 Heartlake City Resort is a good example.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If they're going to reintroduce a monorail system, maybe they could also reintroduce space base plates. Definitely tempted to take this set (maybe a couple) and build out a full space base on my classic space base plates.

Gravatar

I've been waiting for this!

Whereas I have been hoarding my points, only getting the occasional polybag, in anticipation of this and the other set from the Ideas competition.

@ra226 said:"Not sure I'm into the mix of CS and Futuron color schemes... but obviously I'll have to get it. I love this micro trend, it's easier on the wallet and the display space!"

As @PurpleDave has pointed out repeatedly, there was no single unified color scheme in Classic Space. My first Lego spaceship, 6780 , had a Classic Spaceman pilot, but the Futuron color scheme.

This reminds me of a joke by Norm MacDonald; he goes: ID is a strange abbreviation. I is short for I. And D is short for (pause) dentification. So, It seems to me that D is doing most of the legwork on that one. (Obviously the delivery is quite key for a joke like that)

Yeah, probably. Wouldn’t possibly don’t make much sense with a light blue logo, but I don’t see them reuse the figure twice either. We’ll have to see then.

Definitely not monorail. Mono-a-monorail, perhaps.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm usually pretty positive about Lego's space reissues, but this one is pretty mediocre in my view.

I understand the original fan design needed to be scaled down because the mini space figures don't look quite right with the 4 stud-wide monorail. But I think the windscreen assembly is just dreadful, and the 2 stud wide vehicles look like they've lost a lot of aesthetic quality and functionality compared to the fan deisign. The station similarly looks uglier and more poorly proportioned than the fan design. And it's clearly all stickers except for the minifigure torsos.

The one thing I do like is the track: the 3 stud wide tiled surface with the middle stud indented - I guess sort of an inverted monorail design - is pretty cool and more streamlined than the roller coaster track used in the fan submission.

Unless the number of points required to get this is lower than I am anticipating, I just think this is a bad set.

You mean the original monorail track?
That's extremely rigid, I don't think it would bend under normal circumstances.

By in Netherlands,

The original by Falkorich invites kids to expand, to add a destination building on the route that expands on "play". This thing is a sad loop that goes nowhere and doesn't invite to expand on. Horrible set not Lego Worthy imho.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What happened to the winning idea with useful roller-coaster track and carriages, which could have being expanded by combining with other track or included as a fun playable sci-fi extension zone in the Ninjago City of lanterns as the original also mini-fig size.

For anyone who has reached the end of this thread, and is confused by some of the disjointed conversation, you may want to check out Season 4, Episode 12 of The Simpsons.

And for anyone for whom that episode is your entire knowledge of monorails, you may want to check out the Disney world monorail that has been running ever since 1971, or the Chongqing monorail, which carries nearly a million people a day and was well chosen for its job of running over uneven terrain.

6990 was the first set to use the monorail system, and that set came out after Classic Space was over and done with, so it's an evocation.
