The latest Shell promotion

Posted by ,

One of the most exciting stories to break whilst I was away was the news that another Shell/Ferrari/LEGO promotion has started in the far east featuring seven polybags.

The last promotion, which also featured seven sets, started in Hong Kong in August 2012 and has only just reached Germany. However I suspect that if they haven't appeared in your country yet they probably won't. So, sorry USA and Canada...

Looking back at the news articles we published about the last promotion provides a view of where and when they were available so might give an indication of when we can expect the new sets to appear, assuming of course that Shell roll this one out in the same order and timeframe.

So, based on this data, here are my predictions:

  • Other countries in the far east: September-November 2014
  • Italy: December 2014
  • Australia: May 2015
  • Netherlands: June 2015
  • Poland/Hungary: July 2015
  • UK: December 2015
  • Germany: September 2016

Time will tell whether it comes to pass, of course!

We hope to be able to get hold of the sets soon and will review them as soon as we can.

By in Hungary,

I hope it will hit Hungary a lot earlier than July. ))

By in Indonesia,

Confirmed with some sources that it will be released late October for the Philippines. Same as last 2012. :)

By in Germany,

That's crazy that it won't hit Germany till 2 years from now! Hopefully the 2012 sets are still being offered by the time I go back over in October.

^ lol

pleased to get more of these. the kids have had great fun with the pull back and go cars but they also make neat little display pieces :o)

^^ I didn't put my usual statement about comments about Greenpeace being deleted, but I like yours so it can stay :)

By in United States,

Can anyone comment on why TLG offers promotions, like Shell, in some countries, but not others?

Recently, it was announced that Toys R' Us in North America would offer a micro-building promotion throughout the month of October, but that it would not be available in Europe (I think).

Anyhow, why limit the promotional pieces to certain regions of the world? Anyone have insight on that?

By in United Kingdom,

In the cases you quote, it'll be down the individual co-promoters where they choose to run the promotions.

By in United States,

I know these are just predictions. But I don't see Austria listed above. I'll be visiting Austria on business in September of 2015.

Based on the last promotion, do you believe Austria will be excluded? Or will Austria be lumped in with some of the other central European countries (Poland)?

By in Malaysia,

^Austria and Switzerland are being lumped together with Germany for the current promotion.

If they stick to that tradition, then Austria will be with Germany for the next.

By in Netherlands,

From what I remember, the promotion started in April 2013 in the Netherlands. So it's just assuming right now, but it would probably mean that the new sets will be out in April 2015.

By in Germany,

The bags from the current series are 7,95 CHF each in Switzerland. Which is far, far too expensive. It is just not something you pick up en passant. And for 55 CHF (buying all of them) I do get some really nice sets.

@Mickitat - likewise when the promo was here in UK. You could only buy the sets when you purchased their premium fuel. It worked out to be about something like £7 or £8 per set in my local fuel station. That's far too expensive for such a small set.

I know some people on here had a friendly garage nearby who would let them buy the whole lot in one go, but my local garages were sticking to the rules: one per sale and only with £30 of premium fuel.

Not worth it, I didn't buy any.

By in United Kingdom,

My local shell garage stuck to the rules during the promotion. Then, I assume, finding that they had loads left after it had finished, were selling them for a couple of quid.

By in Spain,

Anyone know if this promotion will be out in Spain, thanks.

By in United Kingdom,

Oh great. More cute little LEGO car sets I won't be able to obtain because I don't drive, and my relatives who *do* drive don't buy petrol at Shell petrol stations. Bah. *blows raspberry*

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Bah. Shell is leaving Italian fuel market, so who knows...

Gravatar
By in United States,

A Shell Gas Station to go along with them would be nice...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

There is a little shell station in there. Hopefully that will be the set you can buy with the can of oil which I can give as Birthday gifts to friends and Family, :)
rather than £30 of petrol which I would have to drink, as I do not own a car. :(

I know this is about Shell selling more fuel during the promotion, but surely they could offer all the sets for people buying the cans of oil?

By in Australia,

The last promotion hit Australian shores at the same time as the Australian F1 Grand Prix. I would expect it more likely to be in March than in May.

By in Belgium,

According to http://www.lowlug.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11743&p=352548 the action will start on 1 October (!) in The Netherlands; cars will be €2.50 (available when buying 20 liters) and the tanker will be €7.50 (available when buying 20 liters of v power). The sets are also available without the need to purchase gas, and you can even purchase them using airmiles.

By in Singapore,

The first of the vehicles was a neat little thing, and tomorrow they are releasing the Finishing Line set with the podium and minifig if I recall correctly. I should be getting that one once it's out for release in a few hours time.

I too find it strange that they would create regional-release items, like those exclusive to certain retailers and such, but I guess it's all part of their marketing plan. Secretly I wish for a re-issue of the Marina Bay Sands from the Architecture theme, but I doubt it will happen.

By in United States,

The good thing is, I'll likely be driving in a year or two. I'm choosing a 1988 Chevy 2500 which likely will go through fuel enough so that I'll end up being able to buy more than I need.

One thing that doesn't make sense to me is why the new pullback motor isn't in any regular release sets yet.

By in United States,

Why no love for North America? I guess people who by gasoline (excuse me, "petrol" ;) aren't interested in Lego?

By in Hong Kong,
