The newest Wonders of the Natural World diorama has been revealed as 40784 African Savanna Diorama!

This set contains 287 elements and will almost certainly be available later in July, probably with purchases of over £135, $150 or €150, based on the availability of other dioramas in this series.

By in United Kingdom,

This seems the best yet in this line, at least in my opinion. There's quite a bit to look at here, and it looks really nice, with interesting techniques. Shame this isn't launching in August...

By in United States,

I understand the value of brick-built animals, especially when it comes to reusing pieces in other creative ways, but it sure would have been nice to get an Orient-Expedition-style elephant.

Whoever it was that said it the other day, you're not the only one who can't see any pictures on android (at least on Chrome). They seem to come and go randomly.

Having just searched up a picture of this, it looks fine. The trees are great, and terrain is nice. The elephant isn't quite so impressive, and I presume it's a baby—wouldn't an adult be towering over the ostrich?

By in Netherlands,

To many decent GWP in such a short time.
It's a good set but the limited size makes it hard to capture the vastness of the savanna
Google "CTR Bartosz savanna" and you understand how cramped this set is.

@Schmopiesdad we've had 60302

What I want to know is what GWP will be available in August, when 31168 comes out.

By in Canada,

These dioramas usually don't do it for me. GWPs with interesting designs AND exclusive minifigs / printed pieces work best for me.

This design, while interesting, just lacks on the other factors so my immediate reaction is "I want to see the instructions to build it with my own pieces and Bricklink any pieces I may not already have" rather than "Let's get my wallet ready and check my wishlist to see what will be my next purchase because I gotta have this GWP no matter what!".

By in United States,

That's a big friggin' bird.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Baby elephant, young trees, and a knee deep puddle? The bird and egg have to be giant otherwise everything else feels out of scale.

Thought if you remove the elephant it works as a more close up shot of a bird in a puddle, but then it doesn't really read as a savanna...

@bricks4everyone I completely agree, my initial feeling looking at it was also "we've probably got most of those pieces already". Except the new leaves on the trees.

By in Netherlands,

It's not for me.

By in Belgium,

Consistent with the other diorama's: ugly.

By in United Kingdom,

I wonder if the title of this random parts pack was decided before or after it was thrown together!

In the words of a certain unmentionable individual, 'Can you tell what it is yet?'.

By in Puerto Rico,

Now this looks great.

I also do (whether I end up buying one, or two) wonder, but probably nothing Castle related unfortunately. I hope it something good because I’ll be buying a lot with Star Wars and the Castle, but I really don’t know.

Not an ostrich, a marabou

By in United States,

Argghh! You beat me to it.... Marabou stork

I'd prefer to see these without brick built animals - as environment only.

I've got the other two, but will likely pass on this one.

Or, as @Freddy_Hodson pointed out, it could be a small friggin' elephant."

The legs on the elephant are definitely giving me baby giraffe vibes, so I’m going small.

By in Slovenia,

I have two new sealed 699-1 sets. Animals look better in this old 699 set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This will be the first of the “nature” GWP’s that I’ll be skipping, and I’m okay with that…

If it's an ostrich (which it theoretically isn't according to other posters), the elephant is an adult. Male common ostriches are 7 to 9 feet tall, while female african bush elephants are 8 to 9 feet tall at the shoulders.

If so, then the elephant has to be a baby. Marabou only get up to 5 feet tall.

More like an eleph-AT-AT

By in Norway,

Why do we need this when we already have 699?

Edit: Sorry, I can see now that I was too late, 699 has already been referenced.

By in United States,

C'mon Lego.
You couldn't come up with a better brick built elephant?
I know it's a freebie and can't do the molded elephant that looks perfect but what about something like 4904 Elephant. A new/better variation of that one.

By in Australia,

How many decent sets as GWPs LEGO? I just put two big orders in for the Jane Austen and then Ideas Snails ones. I had a bit of money leftover for the new financial year but these constant paywall locked sets are getting rough, and I don't want to spend anymore until close to the end of the year.

I wish they were more spaced out, or we had a calendar of what GWPs were releasing over the year... But then they couldn't get as much money out of us with our planned spending

Personally, I'm holding out for the Savannah Banana Diorama

I'm just curious how it would look if you put the elephant on top of the taller tree and relocate the bird to Palm Beach. IYKYK.

By in Netherlands,

Sadly typical for many of today's sets: Too many different styles at work create a mess. Basic plates and bricks for the terrain. Highly specialised pieces for the plants. Multifunctional pieces, like the bar holder for the elephant legs. Curved slopes.

It's like Rembrandt, Monet, Mondriaan and Pollock mixed in one painting.

By in United Kingdom,

Whether or not I get this GWP will depend most on how Insider Days compare with Prime Days!

Don't be a drama mama about it.
