LEGO Wicked sets revealed, including 1500-piece Emerald City Wall Art!

Wow. One might say these are wicked. So much better than last year's Wicked sets.

By in United States,

Definitely better than last year, and most of them look really good. Also, @Lego, you can price licensed sets well, so good job here. Just… there’s some other August 1st things that could use that tip? Anyway, I’ll probably use the tin man’s torso for castle stuff if I can get my hands on one. Hey, Toto isn’t brown. Any dog that stands with Dorothy should be grey, plain and simple. The Aarakocra ranger could’ve told you that. The recolors are really neat to see, and I hope they make their way to other themes. The Lion looks great, but for what it’s supposed to be, it’s bad. They should’ve been consistent with the past and kept him in minifigure form. Regardless, it looks good for other uses.

Wicked!!!! They really went all out for this! Can’t wait to get them all! (Hopefully with some big discounts like last year’s sets)
These might prove way more POPULAR!

Why on earth are these just absolutely incredible

By in Philippines,

Kinda hard to believe that set 75689 contains 860 pieces. Those builds are way too small.

By in Australia,

The wall art is nice, a shame it isn't based off the beautiful 1939 film.

By in United States,

Spring loaded shooters in an art piece?! Wicked Cool!

Gravatar
By in United States,

They’re all so great, can’t wait to get them!

By in Hungary,

At first, I thought that the Scarecrow was left out from the Emerald City set, and I was surprised. But there he is, like a prince :)

By in Turkey,

Usually Friends sets hurt my eyes but these sets look beautiful. I think we'll see more "wall art" sets like this more in the future and with easter eggs they are more fun than your average Picasso on the wall...

By in Sweden,

Looks like the Dorothy minifig and Tinman is about the same as the ones released in the LEGO Movie 2 series… But this time it’s the wrong Toto… Im guessing this is based on the wicked ”casting” of another Toto dog… Would preferred another Cairn Terrier but it’s not Lego’s fault.

By in United States,

You gotta admit, that lion face is fantastic.

By in United States,

I'll admit that 75685 looks good, but between the fact that I already have the complete TLM2 CMF series, and the fact that it's not based of of the 1939 movie (and that Toto's the wrong color), I'll give it a pass.

By in Germany,

Nice looking sets.
Contrary to Star Wars, the prices don't seem too ridiculous either.

Funny you should mention. I just saw a documentary about the horrific things that happened during the making of that film, especially what they did to Judy Garland.
Truly awful stuff.

By in United States,

Wait, since when is the Cowardly Lion an actual lion? I thought he was just a dude dressed up like a lion (as in the movie; I don't know what he was in the book, other than a representation of William Jennings Bryan)? Is this something that the newer Wicked stuff has done? Very interesting. Otherwise, 75685 is overpriced for what it is... I'd say $140 tops. But it is splendidly designed; the detailing on the city is fantastic and the clouds are very nicely done.

The other sets aren't bad, either, particularly the building in 75690. I just have one question: Glinda's wedding 75688 comes with just Glinda, an old woman, a squirrel, and dog/bear thing. So to whom exactly is Glinda getting married? The squirrel?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m probably missing something by not knowing the plot of Wicked/Wicked 2, but a playset based on a wedding without a groom figure feels like a misfire.

When I said I wanted new flying monkey figures, that's not what I meant....

considering piece count, tarriffs?, ip cost/price... my opinion $200 would be over priced...
seems accurate to me, just wait for it to go on sale.
I bet you will be able find it for $$140/
maybe $120 at some point.

Kids are going to learn the hard way that not all fairytale couples are meant to be... ;)

My wife will go absolutely mad for these. They look really impressive and cute at the same time. I don't go for wall art, but that's the best wall art set I've seen yet. The Brickheadz will be insta buys for people who were mulling over 75682 but baulked at the price (even discounted, as it now is). The two castles look perfect as companions to the Disney mini-castles already produced (and they open up!). And the 3 playsets look well done too - especially that Munchkin house.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the art set, but I'll give the others a miss, though the munkin set is attractive, I hate the open back.

I need to find that documentary.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

WOAH? So it WAS possible to mame normal playsets instead of silly collectables?

Still have some problems (not many playfeatures or space), but these are way better!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Wow.

Those are some great sets. But they spoil some pretty critical parts of the story, like, yikes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Toto is a...baby German Shepherd?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Unless Wicked replaced Toto (haven't seen it/them), the switch out to a baby German Shepherd is almost unforgivable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Never seen the play or the movie. Why is Scarecrow just a dude? Did they just really downplay the scarecrow-ness of Scarecrow, or does he start as a normal guy and get turned into a scarecrow, or something?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Damn! I was hoping it was from the original Wizard of Oz.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love these sets!! The minifigures and mini-dolls look outstanding and the builds are really interesting. My favorite sets are the wall art and the Munchkinland set. I really like the costume designs for Part 2 and it's great to see those costumes reflected in so many unique figures - getting 3 different versions of Glinda's new bluish-purple dress is above and beyond what I expected.

It's kinda strange that the wedding set doesn't include Fiyero, and mini-doll versions of the classic Wizard of Oz characters would have been cool. But I'm very happy with their minifigure representations in the wall art! Can't wait for the movie, Part 1 was amazing and Part 2 looks even better.

I'm contemplating buying it and replacing the minifigures with my Wizard of Oz collection.
Leave out the Wicked printed piece and call it a day.

@AustinPowers:
I'm not aware of anything pertaining to Garland, but I do know about how the Tin Man makeup caused an adverse reaction.

@BLProductions:
Always was an actual lion. They just did the lion-man costume for the film because doing it like the book was waaaaaaay beyond their capabilities at that time. The film is also the origin of the Ruby Slippers. In the book, they were silver, but silver wouldn't pop in Technicolor the way red would, so they changed it (and therefore WB owns the rights to those shoes). There's a stage play version of the story where, because flying monkeys are too difficult for many small theatres to pull off, the Wicked Witch employs ghosts instead.

@mikesray

The latter

@PurpleDave

Judy Garland’s entire Hollywood career was characterized by exploitation and mistreatment, particularly during the production of Wizard of Oz and A Star is Born. She was pressured to maintain an unhealthy weight through extremely regimented dieting and was heavily sedated at the behest of studio higher-ups, among other abuses and indignities.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@PurpleDave:
What @Mr__Thrawn said. Also there is the well publicized lack of care the studio displayed towards the actors in general, especially in situations that caused bodily harm, like when the actress playing the wicked witch was hospitalized with third-degree burns after a stunt went horribly wrong.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Niche comment but is Glinda the first BrickhHead to have nougat skin parts? Strange they've done that for her whilst seeming to persist with tan parts (e.g. for the Stranger Things 4-pack). Wonder if this is a Friends-related thing?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I try not to buy things related to stuff I haven’t seen yet, but the Wicked sets have been seriously testing that resolve. These are even better than the last wave - that wall art is glorious.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why is Nessarose nowhere? She's kind of important to Part 2, isn't she?
