Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 24
Posted by CapnRex101,I have no idea what to expect on the final day of the Star Wars Advent Calendar, but I really hope for another Christmas-related droid, potentially with more than just festive colours.
Find out after the break...
9509 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar was only the second Star Wars Advent Calendar, released in 2012. Among its highlights was a snowman version of R2-D2 and this year's calendar ends with a matching BB-8! This is a nice idea and its execution is similar to the Artoo snowman, with panels roughly sculpted into the snowy surface and pieces of coal for BB-8's main sensors and displays. The snowman also comes with a mini Christmas tree.
The snowman's top hat seems awkward though, resting so low on the head and covering much of the printed detail. Fortunately, you can easily add a 1x1 round plate to raise the hat and I think it looks far better this way, although there is something funny about its position above!
Overall - I am quite pleased with a BB-8 snowman as a conclusion to the calendar, particularly as a counterpart for the old R2-D2 snowman.
Summary
I like the concept of a droid-themed Advent Calendar and I think this calendar has realised the potential at times, but not as consistently as I hoped. There have been some outstanding brick-built droids, including the Treadwell Droid, Pit Droid and B2EMO, which was my favourite of the group. Babu Frik was a highlight too, as a character I doubted we would see in LEGO form.
Unfortunately, there have been too many mediocre or underwhelming days. The scenery did not appeal to me and I wish the designers had been more willing to attempt lesser-known droids, or perhaps devote a few more parts to making things like the Imperial Probe Droid as good as they can be.
Also, I missed the mini vehicles usually found in Advent Calendars. They tend to be among my favourite items because they offer inherent play value and often use some neat techniques, so their absence was notable. Even so, this was not a bad calendar on the whole, in my opinion.
What do you think of the Star Wars Advent Calendar this year and which is your favourite item? Let us know in the comments and thank you for reading the 2025 Advent Countdown!

I’ve literally been waiting a decade for them to make this figure.
Ever since The Force Awakens came out, I’d wanted TLG to release a Snowman BB-8 to pair with the Snowman R2-D2 from 2012 ( https://brickset.com/minifigs/sw0424 ), so today’s minifig is a dream come true for me.
The printing looks excellent, and BB-8’s design lends itself so well to a snowman minifigure. The little Christmas Tree is a fun added bonus, too. I agree with @CapnRex101 though, his hat covers a little too much of his face print. I have the hat on mine placed atop the head at an angle instead of directly attaching it in, so that way you can see the face better.
5/5 for me. Second time that an AC has ended on BB-8, and it's even better than the first time. Awesome minifig and awesome finish to this calendar. So much better than last year’s day 24…. https://brickset.com/article/115634
My final thoughts on the calendar as a whole:
Overall, I really enjoyed it. Aside from finally getting Babu Frik as minifigure (which of course, as you probably guessed, was a huge deal for me ;) there were plenty of standout days for me. The red-eyed C-3PO, Christmas Sweater Jawa, Pit Droid, Treadwell Droid, and today’s Snowman BB-8 were all excellent figures and great minifigs to receive. Getting 17 characters (whether you count them as minifigs or not), 14 of which are exclusive, is practically unheard-of for a LEGO AC. I also thought this calendar did a great job of incorporating different movies, shows, and eras of the Star Wars franchise into one set.
However, this AC is far from perfect. Some of the the non-minifig/droid builds ranged from decent to mid to flat-out disappointing. This is definitely the SW AC with the highest individual number of disappointing builds behind its doors. That being said, it also had some of the biggest highlights for me out of any SW AC.
In the end, I will repeat what I saw several others saying during this countdown: the idea of Babu Frik’s Droid workshop would’ve worked better as a $30 LEGO set instead of a $45 Advent Calendar. There were too many uninteresting builds for it to function as well as it could’ve; however, I do quite like how the finished product looks together. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts for me.
In the end then, definitley not the best Star Wars Advent Calendar (that would be 75279 for me), but a very enjoyable Calendar, nonetheless.
Merry Christmas!!
The little tree is supposed to go on top of FX-6/7, right?
Shoot. That's sticking now. FX-6/7. Ask your kids.
SW:
I think C-3PO, the Treadwell Droid, the Christmas tree droid and today were the best.
Today:
Disney: 4/5p
Friends: The sleigh is a bit simple, but the reindeer is a cute final surprise. 4.5/5p
Minecraft: I think it's the 2nd best in the calendar. 4.5/5p
Harry Potter: This is also one of my favourites. 4.5/5p
Star Wars: 5/5p
Based on my daily scoring, here are the final results of the 5 calendars (I didn't follow the City one, but I bought it for next year.):
Star Wars received ~52.4%, placing it in 5th place.
Minecraft received ~62.71%, placing it in 4th place.
Harry Potter received ~66.24%, placing it in 3rd place.
Disney received ~70.365%, placing it in 2nd place.
Friends received ~71.51%, placing it in 1st place!
Brickset, thank you for this year's Advent Countdown!
Merry Christmas Eve!
Anyway, it's time for your ANNUAL ROUNDUP OF ADVENT CALENDAR BUILDS. For sanity, I won't repeat the weapons racks/micro vehicle builds since I just did those two days ago.

Day 24:
0 points (+ 29 from yesterday = 29): Dy - An icy fireplace without fire. A more that disappointing final gift in a terrible AC.
1 (+52 = 53): Fr - The plushie is cool and the sled is cool, but the other ACs' gifts are better.
2 (+74 = 76): SW - In my head canon this is a different BB unit. The small tree is a nice extra, though this role could easily have been taken by the FX droid from day 22 (add: stud with bar and a 1x1 star and it's done).
3 (+74 = 77): HP - Wow, very good ice sculpture, and if they had used more trans-lb pieces, it might have been even higher on the list.
4 (+69 = 73): Ct - City pulls the trump card again on day 24. Nice to see that Santa has evolved parts-wise. Just compare to previous iterations or even the non-AC Santas from the 90s!
5 (+47 = 52): MC - Okay, I just have to admit, this is both bizarre and stunning and overall something I wasn't prepared for. Well done, Minecraft, well done!
And finally, here's all the micro-environments...which also did not appear this year.
Atch-To Island: 2019
Bespin Cloud City: 2018
Death Star Turret: 2019
Endor Ewok Village: 2015, 2023
Endor Imperial Bunker: 2023

Mustafar Castle Vader: 2020, 2022 (sandcastle), 2024
Tatooine Jabba’s Palace: 2016
Tatooine Lars Homestead: 2019
Tatooine Pit of Carkoon: 2015
Total ranking and verdict:
6th @ 29 Points: Disney - No, Disney didn't even reach 30 points. Last year's Disney AC wasn't good, so I didn't have big expectations, but even these were pretty much let down. Many lazy builds (the far away backdrop houses for example) and repeatedly the use of kiddolls instead of proper minifigs or minidolls. Nope, no love. If Lego releases another Disney AC next year, they have to do better. Best gifts: sleigh (day 6), along with Sven (day 5)
5th @ 52: Minecraft - as stated on day one, Minecraft has totally alien aethetics to me and I wouldn't have bought it. That being said, I appreciate that Lego tried something different here and occasionally, there were positive surprises. The last days were stronger, topping it off with a very unusual Santa, taking home first place on the final day! Best gift: Santa (day 24)
4th @ 53: Friends - Beat MC by just one point. And it started off comparably strong, so what happened? Friends' strongest days were those with minidolls, and I'm happy we got 5 in total this year! What a leap forward as there were ACs completely without any! Then we had the pets, which are nice, too, but more likely to lose againste minifigs or more interesting builds. And then there were some not-so-interesting auxillary builds... Best gifts: The Friends minidolls and their sleeping bags (days 1, 5, 10, 15 and 18).
3rd @ 73: City - Though not the worst City AC ever, this years' wasn't particularly interesting either. The designers played it safe thematically. In total, very average, and average is close to forgettable. Best gift: Mom with alien plushie and CS-sweater (day 13).
2nd @ 76: Star Wars - Yep, I fell in love with it the day it was revealed, and I don't understand why it is so hated. We have 17(!) characters, if you take the spread-out second B1 into account. Six days were occupied by Babu's workshop equipment and two by a vehicle - you can detach the crane and use the shopcrawler differently, so I'm not angry about that at all! I'm really happy to have it, and it will eventually be completely integrated into a MOC I'm working on. Best gifts: Babu Frick (day 1) as - so far - unique mold and character and the treadwell droid (day 16).
1st @ 77: Harry Potter - Credit, where credit is due. It feels like 8 proper minifigs is a cheat, but then again, Star Wars comes with 17 characters and still lost by only 1 point (it was the chair's fault!). Plus, it offers many strong minibuilds, though few work with the minifigs. Very satisfying! Best gift: The book of monsters (day 20). The figs are also awesome and more or less on par.
For the future, I'd like to see more themed calendars, maybe in year-by-year turns with classically mixed-content issues. There's a lot of potential in the themed ones! For example, in Star Wars, a clone wars serial recap, or one with items from all animated series. Or one with rarely used alien minifigs (come on, TLG, you want those oh-so expensive molds to pay, don't you?).
Anyway, I hope you had fun with my annual day-to-day AC contest game. I'm looking forward to next year!
Speaking of...
Memo to myself: Halfway through, you had the idea to tell a mini-story containing all items of ecvery day. Do that in 2026!
FINALLY...here's a look back at all the *themes* we got each year.
2011: Mix of Episodes I, II, Clone Wars, IV, V, and VI; Santa Yoda themed on famous Lucasfilm Christmas card.
2012: Mix of Episodes I, II, III; IV, V; Santa Darth Maul; first set with an Episode III build (Greivous’ ship). Mostly themed around Episodes I and V.
2013: Mix of Episode II, Clone Wars, IV, V, and VI; Santa Jango Fett. Mostly themed around Episodes II and VI. Unique young Boba Fett figure.
2014: Mix of Episode II, Clone Wars, III, IV, V and VI; Santa Vader and festive Clone Trooper
2015: Mix of Clone Wars and Episodes IV, V, and VI; Santa C-3PO and reindeer R2-D2 themed on famous Lucasfilm Christmas card. First set with micro-environments (the Pit of Carkoon and the Ewok Village).
2016: Mix of Clone Wars/Episode II, IV, V, and VI; Yeti Chewbacca and Imperial Snowman.
2017: Mix of Rebels, Rogue One, and Episode VII; Santa BB-8. (Several builds here could be from Episodes IV-VI, but are likely intended to be Rebels/Rogue One.) First Advent Calendar themed around Disney-era Star Wars.
2018: Mix of Freemaker Adventures, Rogue One, Clone Wars, Episodes II, III, IV, V, VII, VIII. First set with an Episode VIII build (Rose Tico). Rebel snowman build.
2019: Mix of Episodes I, II, IV, V, VII and VIII. Present GNK Droid and Santa-Porg.
2020: Largely inspired by the televised Lego Star Wars Holiday Special. Mix of Episodes I, Rogue One, IV, V, VI, the Mandalorian, and IX. Festive Vader and Poe Dameron; Santa D-O. Included code for unique download in The Skywalker Saga video game.
2021: Entirely themed around The Mandalorian. Festive Din Djarin and Grogu with Pram. (Yes, several of the minifigures such as the Stormtrooper and Tusken work across films, but it’s clear this was a Mandalorian set.)
2022: Mix of Episodes II, III, IV, V, VI, and the Bad Batch. Festive R2-D2 and C-3PO. Santa GNK. Vacation Darth Vader and festive R2/3PO appeared in the televised Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation.
2023: Mix of Episodes I, II, Clone Wars, III, VI, the Bad Batch, the Mandalorian. Santa Pit Droid. Festive Palpatine and Ewok.
2024: 25th Anniversary themed calendar with each build referencing a milestone in almost every year of Lego Star Wars history. Mix of Episodes II, Clone Wars, III, Rogue One, IV, VI, the Mandalorian, Ahoska, Young Jedi Adventures. Festive Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.
2025: Babu Frik’s Droid Workshop. Mix of Episodes I, II, Clone Wars, III, Andor, IV, IV, IX. Festive Jawa. Set with the fewest minifigures (2) and largest number of brick-built droids (8 with spare parts for a 9th). First Advent Calendar with no microbuilds. Unique Babu Frik and C-3PO figures (albeit neither 3PO’s body nor head is new). Notably, there’s no clean appearance by any of the other droids in this calendar having appeared in Babu Frik’s actual on-screen workshop (particularly B2-EMO, who didn’t even exist as a character in 2019), nor the Jawa. That said, the theme of “droid junk shop” is thematically very clean even if it’s taking liberties from the movie.
@ResIpsaLoquitur :
Once again, appreciate all of the research. Thank you.
Wow, a double build. Worth the wait?
The droid theme was a good idea, but it would be better to see more minifigs. Maybe more protocol droids (even without C-3PO) and NED-B.
I was gifted this. I am not a Star Wars fan. I have only the passing knowledge of someone who saw the first 4 films created and have been forced to see through "culture". I recognized the tiny Fick thing (not the name of it though) on opening.
I was completely underwhelmed to open this; especially as my husband opened the Harry Potter one at the same time. The Harry Potter builds had substance behind them. These were all just so tiny. What were they thinking when one day was the crane? Or the chair?
The HP one had 8 minifigures. This has 4 (counting the two single piece tiny ones). Some of the droid builds are neat (the med bot), but very repetitive and again small. Piece counts are about the same, but they're a bunch of tiny pieces like the antenna or translucent red 1x1 rounds. I am happy to get new colors of a few pieces (silver shovel instead of gray; gold crowbar instead of black or gray...) but those would have been cents to get on Bricklink.
I looked back at Brickset's pages for previous Star Wars years and see that this year's was just a dud. Any of the last few years' appeared better to me.
Addendum: There are spare parts for 1 extra droid spread throughout the workshop. If only there had been another stray torso to go with all the millions of spare arms.
So there's a perspective of a not Star Was fan on this one.

I'm the same way as you; I really enjoyed this set, and thought it was overhated.

You certainly could! ;)
@jkb
As always, been a pleasure reading your tallies for the calendars, been fascinating seeing how much jockeying between positions there was (for everyone who wasn’t Disney)

"Day 24:
Well done, Minecraft, well done!"
Overall I’ve enjoyed your accumulative scoring, although I think the final day of SW is better than the final day of HP, the prints on BB-8 are really high quality
Final calendar rankings:
1. City
2. Minecraft
3. Harry Potter
4. Friends
5. Disney
6. Star Wars
An amazing figure.
Thanks @jkb and @Brickes_ficko (City when??) for the exciting race. Hope to see you again next year, you're tradition :)
And happy Christmas everybody! May you find inner peace and unlimited love from your dear ones. And, of course, lots of LEGO sets ;)
I would have just preferred a larger tree. No love for the beach ball.

Rogue Whistler?!! There is no Rogue Whistler!!!
There is, now!
(vroom, whoosh.... whistle?)
I started buying LEGO ACs in around 2019. I started w SW and City and I have both Marvel ones that were released. I stopped buying City bc it got so repetitive. I love the SW micro builds and for the first couple of years I didn't even get any weapons racks so I didn't get the hate lol and was actually excited to get them when I did (I think I have 4?). I love droids but this has been mostly subpar unfortunately. That being said I did like the couple of exclusive minifigs and I hope they stay that way otherwise this will be worse. But definitely going to try City again and I will see if I can get this year's at a discount. Happy holidays to everyone and as a super anxious introvert I'm glad to share this hobby with you all
The SWAC is nice change that the builds all provider minifig-scale accessories and characters.
However, on the whole, it feels cheap compared with parts and prints as compared to the City and HP ACs (but, this isn't terribly unusual).
Love the unique, holiday-printed BB. Both the Resistance and First Order have been looking for this BB unit!!

This is the droid they’re looking for.
I was pleased overall with this year’s calendar. Not a lot of minifigs, true, but because of the theme there’s plenty of droids we build. Comments have already been made here about the many characters we get to build. This is LEGO anyway, so a good advent calendar should include gifts that you put together. I would’ve made the droid work shop slightly different and I think that pink and blue gonk droid is so bizarre. Those are the disappointments of this calendar. Outstanding gifts are Threepio, Babu Frik, B2EMO, Treadwelll Droid, the pit droid, and snowman BB-8.
I like the idea of a calendar with a cohesive or unified theme. This one and last year’s (celebrating the anniversary of SW LEGO) are great “departures” or new direction from the calendars of the past. I would very much like a SW advent calendar that is Sith-themed, or themed around Jabba’s Palace.
This has been fun. Lots of rebuild potential, more than most SWAC. Babu was one of the most disappointing days, just a single piece. Of course, I would love more pieces overall, but otherwise a decent calendar for me.
Worst Lego SW advent calendar ever.
You wanted Babu Frik, but I would've preferred some Fabu-bricks.
Ironic that BB8, the droid with orange accents, doesn't have any carrots on him like the older astromech figure.
No Jedi, no Sith. Trash.
Very fun calendar, one of the best SWAC in my opinion, but I do agree that some builds are pretty weak and it's not really the most festive theme they could have chosen.
I appreciate not having any microships though, last year had too many and they were overall mediocre when not outright terrible (thinking of the mandalorian gauntlet, one of the worst micro-builds in SWAC history).
@BabuBrick said:"Awesome minifig and awesome finish to this calendar. So much better than last year’s day 24…. https://brickset.com/article/115634"
Yeah, that was a weak ending. But, IMHO, last year's calendar was much better overall, especially if you've been collecting Lego Star Wars since the very beginning, as I have.
Lots of weak builds this year but the theme was good. One of the worse Advent Calendar’s of recent memory especially coming after arguably one of the better ones last year.
I wish everyone reading this a happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. I hope all your parcels have that distinctive LEGO rattle tomorrow morning. At the same time I know this time of year can be difficult for some people but as someone once said to me "this too will pass".

You have both Marvel ACs? So which two did you miss, the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, the other Avengers, or Spiderman?
"I stopped buying City bc it got so repetitive."
I started buying City because they got good minifigs. I don’t actually build them, but I do put the minifigs to use.
"I love the SW micro builds and for the first couple of years I didn't even get any weapons racks so I didn't get the hate lol and was actually excited to get them when I did (I think I have 4?)."
The gripe stems from the fact that you get the minifig on one day, and you get _their_gun_ on a different day. Cut the weapons rack, give the Minifigs their own weapons on the same day, and put a legitimate model in the empty slot. The only weapons rack I’ve ever liked was the lightsaber hearth. Rather than making a rack to hold equipment that got delayed as filler, a better option they did once was to make a couple artillery pieces that would actually shoot. If you have to make the entire day about a basic gun, at least give it the ability to shoot studs or whatever.

Yeah, last year's calendar was probably objectively better, but I enjoyed this year's more.
I enjoyed the year-by-year approach that last year's AC took, but my biggest complaint about last year's also has to do with the year-by-year nature of it. As a ST fan, I was pretty annoyed at how they managed to ignore Sequel sets in what was supposed to be a celebration of the ENTIRE history of LSW, not just certain parts.
I was also baffled at their unwillingness to acknowledge their own original characters and stories that received sets and deserved acknowledgement for the 25-year history of LSW (i.e. The Yoda Chronicles, The Freemaker Adventures, etc.).
But, that's just my opinion. I still liked the 2024 calendar in spite of those things. I just didn't enjoy it as much as this year's.
Definitely my least favorite of the Star Wars calendars. Might be my last one. I liked the idea of the droid workshop in general but the execution, not so much. Too much workshop for me. While I've never been a fan of weapon racks, I preferred them to 1/3 of the items this year being scenery items, not to mention two days of microfigures. B2EMO is definitely the highlight of the calendar.
It's been a poor year, and even LEGO themselves are resorting to 50% off to try to get rid of them. But still a pass at that price.

Worst LEGO sw advent calender ever.

Sithmas eyes. So festive!
For me, this has been the worst SW Advent Calendar yet. No proper figs, no mini-vehicles, instead half of the calendar filled with sort of weapons racks of the most boring nature plus a couple of droids, and no really good ones at that, except maybe today.
Come to think of it, almost all of the calendars this year have been the worst yet in their respective themes for me.
Minecraft at least has lots of good pieces for the money, and Harry Potter has a lot of nice figs plus some interesting builds with, again, many useful pieces. I bought the latter at 50% off in the current sale at LEGO online, and for that kind of money it's a steal imho.
I really like this one now that it's all together. Microbuilds are fun on a daily basis, but they don't really add up the way More And More Droids do.
Still not as bad as this year's Marvel Advent Calendar. So needlessly blocky.
CapnRex, thank you once again for all your hard work!
I quite liked following this AC and I don't agree with those who say it was the worst SWAC ever. On the whole, however, I think ACs aren't as much fun as they used to be. After all these years, maybe I'm just jaded.
I've done every SWAC released. While I wouldn't say this is a 'bad' AC, personally I just prefer to have a nice assortment of memorable 'micro representations/references from throughout the SW franchise. The 'droid AC' was an interesting theme, just wasn't for me.

Many people posted their favorites but I see that I'm more inline with your point scale.
I'm grateful that we finally got a SW advent calendar that filled out a scene with its builds rather than a ton of miniature models of ships, etc. In fact, this is the first SW advent calendar that I ever went out of my way to get! I hope they take a similar approach next year as well.

I've always loved microscale ships, so this was the first SWAC in four years that I didn't bother with. Besides, the scene didn't really appeal to me.
