By in United Kingdom,

They don't look like April Fool sets so I'll assume they're not despite their availability date

By in Canada,

Looking at the Germany post card, I was thinking: Germany has a lot more to offer than that. And then I went on Google and looked for tourist attractions in Germany. You got the Brandenburg gate alright but the rest is (1) large religious buildings, (2) castles. (3) river cruises and (4) nice town/village setup. So I suppose they did a reasonable job here. Even with the car and train (ICE is white and red) added, IMO it still looks a little bit bland.

By in United States,

Is that meant to be a Volkswagen Beetle?

You would think it almost certainly has to be the Beetle. The rounded slope in the back would suggest as much, but I'm not sure what's going on with the front.

Yes, a Beetle would have an almost equally sloped front, so maybe this is a crude Porsche 911 ;-)
You'd think a Beetle though

By in Spain,

Funny that they added in the Germany postcard a Shinkansen...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The car looks odd. It probably just uses too many parts given its scale, and likely should just be one stud wide, not two.

Otherwise, I think this is a reasonable representation of Germany in the context of these postcards. I say this as a German, despite what my listed country may say.

I get the 911 bit from the side, but what is happening with the front?

By in United States,

I'm trying to decide if it would be better to give 40871 as a gift still in its box or fully assembled. Either way, I like the mechanism.

By in United States,

As I'm German born, I feel the German postcard is a bit disappointing, at least to me. While I admit I have been away from my home country for quite a long time, the only thing I recognize is the Brandenburg Gate. The church (?) and castle (?) seem arbitrary, or at least they're not familiar to me. The car (which seems more Porsche to me) seems out of place. The one village building seems small and lonely. Sadly I'm not sure I'll be getting this to accompany my Japan postcard (which I bought because my wife is from Japan).

By in Puerto Rico,

Yay, I love them.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

I wonder when they will release the postcard of Brazil. I imagine will be Samba, Jungle and maybe Soccer. Oh lord.

I recognize Munich's Town Hall and the castle is obviously Neuschwanstein as there isn't really anything else it can be.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was thinking the castle had to be Neuschwanstein as well, but I'm really not sure why they'd go with dark red for the roofing? Unless it is meant to be a different structure.

You'd think the point of these sets is to boil down these locations to their most recognizable imagery, but here we are debating several of the design elements. Oh well!

By in Netherlands,

As much as I do like those Postcard sets, this one doesn't really do it for me. I think I do recognize whet they were going for with each of the elements, but most look a bit questionable:
- Brandenburger Tor is fine, though a bit simple. Couldn't they have done something a bit more creative for the statues?
- Not sure if that's supposed to be a Käfer or 911, but what's going on with the wheels?
- Neuschwanstein is barely recognizable, and positioned rather weird.
- Munich Town Hall shouldn't be white.
- Is that indeed a shinkansen? Would have made more sense to go for either red or black (windows) instead of blue. Now reminds me most of the old InterRegio livery during the 90s.
- The random Fachwerkhaus seems rather random, and not all that convincing in this color.
- And what's going on with those name stickers?

Biggest problem to me is that nothing of it screams "Germany", it all just feels kinda random.

And obviously the biggest ommision is the lack of a Rammstein reference. They could have at least included some flame pieces. Or maybe even a Sound Brick with this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeQM1c-XCDc

As for the Gift Box.......it looks like a decent parts pack (though not particularly great value), but other than that? I mean, give any kid the choice between this or any other €20 set, and I can't imagine them picking this.

By in Ireland,

Will get the postcard, have all the others.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The only thing that really screams Germany would be a certain Ferrari :-)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I mean, is this really that bad? It seems like a pretty benign postcard. Compared to 40651, which was basically "Outback Despair (ft. Kookaburra)", the German postcard is a delight.

Compare this also to the non-existent Dutch postcard, which reads as "we don't care to acknowledge you, but if we did, it'd be three tulips and a windmill and you'd thank us for it, you nasty underwater goblins".

And yeah, we probably would.

By in Germany,

Intercity train in the wrong livery is a fail. The sausage, beer and pretzel are missing too. 5/10

minifig in a dirndl.

By in United Kingdom,

I like the postcards. I’m hoping they eventually do enough of them that I can use them as labels for my Nanoblock Sights To See kits.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

To me as a German this postcard is totally Meh. Even the supposed Brandenburg Gate looks like sh*t. Let alone the random other buildings - no way is that Neuschwanstein Castle, not even close. And the large building could be any of a number of similar looking ones. I would have preferred a proper Brandenburg Gate, and then maybe the Cologne Cathedral, a Fachwerk town like Rothenburg, and a proper mini Neuschwanstein that at least looks somewhat similar to the real thing. The Frauenkirche Dresden would also have been a good choice. And if they were going for an ICE train, why the totally wrong colours?
Really bad effort imho.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It just so happens I'm going to Germany in April, and the city I'm staying in has a LEGO store.. I'll have to drop by and see if they have it.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Hmm no German flag? I assume it's copyrighted and not usable for commercial purposes like the Mexican flag?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Yeah, that postcard doesn't scream Germany to me at all really. Assuming that the castle is meant to be Neuschwanstein, it's not much like it. The car is also a bit random and the ICE train isn't the right colour. I like the town hall, but I think this one's a pass sadly. Cologne Cathedral should be there!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

One idea I just had about the castle, maybe it's not supposed to be Neuschwanstein but one of the many castles along the Rhine. That would make a little more sense in terms of the landscape with the train track below too, and some of those castles look more like this one than Neuschwanstein.

Seeing how you should insta-recognize wich country it is, when not having the name-tag on it, yeah I would consider this a fail and the Australian one a win.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Haha I thought my knowledge is poor that I recognize only Brandenburg Gate but even ppl from Germany don't know what this card suppose represent! xD
Sadly very poor design, they could include some iconic view from Dresden for example, maybe Zwinger? Plus Bavaria landscape.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think this postcard looks pretty good. Half the fun is trying to work out what on earth they depict. Same as Speed Champion cars... some look excellent, but precious little like the claimed source, without seeing the name on the box!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Even before I started reading the comments, I was of the opinion that I'd rather have 21027 than that postcard, largely because I never had a lot of interest in the postcard sets, while I love the Skyline sets. But reading through this thread has only reinforced that decision.

By in United States,

Why is the red car so large compared to the other structures? Is there a large car in germany?

Also another one to add to my postcard collection, this will take it up to 8 now.

Cliffjumper already has size complex, let's not make it worse for him. :o)

I always love it when people make Transformers references here,

By in Japan,

Ooh, the postcards are starting to become more frequent now... I have Japan, Australia, and London but still missing Beijing (and Italy I'm still on the fence about) but might bite the bullet for Deutschland!
