LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier revealed!

Posted by ,

I well remember the huge anticipation for 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier before the set's release in 2015 and a new iteration of this vehicle has been unveiled today! The press release follows:

76354 S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier
3,057 pieces, rated 18+
$399.99 / £329.99 / €369.99
Available at LEGO.com from 1st June

Bring the Marvel Universe to life for adult enthusiasts with the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier (76354) model building kit. This collectable LEGO | Marvel Avengers model incorporates detailed features, movie scenes and 6 minifigures – Winter Soldier, Captain America, Phil Coulson, Maria Hill, Hawkeye and Nick Fury – making it a great gift for adult Super Hero fans.

The 3,057-piece vehicle display model captures the full splendour of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier from Marvel Studios’ The Avengers movie. There are runways, engines, a control tower, aircraft, interior rooms and much more, plus dynamic features, such as a removable runway to allow access to the interior and a Quinjet that can be placed mid-air using a posing stick. Internally, multiple scenes from the Avengers movies are referenced using simplified representations of familiar characters.

This version of the Helicarrier measures 68cm or 26.5 inches long, so it is significantly smaller than 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier, but its shaping looks more accurate to me and this model includes lots of detail. The minifigures look outstanding too, with seemingly no expense spared for dual-moulded elements and printed arms where needed.

What do you think of the Helicarrier? Let us know in the comments and via our poll.

Will you be buying this set?

Yes, as soon as it's released
Yes, eventually
Yes, if it's discounted
Maybe, I haven't made up my mind yet
No, it doesn't interest me
No, it's too expensive
No, but I like it

By in United States,

That’s gotta be one of the coolest minifig lineups I’ve seen in a Marvel set.

$400 minifig pack goes crazy

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really reminded me of my hatred for Maria Hill and those Go-Karts… ANYWAY Awesome set! Great Minifig lineup as well. I can’t justify $400 though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They just can not get Jeremy Renner's face right.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Got the 2015 one, which I think is better on a lot of fronts. For example, why aren’t they doing the micro figures again?

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Wow, love those minifigures, but cannot afford that set. I'll be here to split if anyone wants the set but not the figures!

They should make one that actually flies.

Oh, they do.

You have to throw them pretty hard, but ...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Very nice for those who are strongly into marvel. Smaller is not necessary a bad point: easier to display somewhere. The set has 61 more pieces and cost US$50 more which I think is fair considering 11 years have passed and this design seems a bit more polished.

There seems to be a lot of stickers for a $400 set. It also seems to be a lot of minifigs missing (especially if you want to showcase the Loki box).

Definitely the best mini-scale Quinjet design. Might buy the parts for that one.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Too expensive for a smaller version. I'm sticking with the original one.

Gravatar

Good thing I got the midiscale one on clearance over black Friday weekend...

Gravatar

Why? It didn't fly in the best feature film it appeared in. In fact, it toppled over on its side, dumping everyone off the flight deck onto the ground.

Gravatar
By in United States,

OK, who else is excited to pose the Quinjet using the "posing stick"?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool minifigures, but a step down from the original set in almost every other way. It's smaller, the front of the ship looks very awkwardly shaped, there's no UCS-style plaque, no cool separate stand for the minifigures, a worse interior, no nanofigures, no moving turbine function... I really dislike how the minifigs are just stuck onto the stand in the shadow of the vehicle and after getting incredible nanofigures in 75978 why couldn't we get some here?

I was so excited about this rumor but the original set has way more going for it. Sure, the new build is smoother, but it doesn't look as good and offers less in my opinion.

By in Finland,

This one looks considerably better than the 2015 set. 76042 is odd since it's basically a display piece but looks like a cheap playset: inaccurate shaping, stud-heavy plating, transparent propeller blades, that utterly goofy out-of-place gigantic windscreen piece on the top... Now this one actually looks like a refined scale model. I kind of would like to have this one, just too bad I don't care about Avengers or really any superhero stuff (with the slight exception of Batman).

I love it how many different minifig accessories they used for the tower details! :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don’t have £330 to throw on LEGO but if I did, it would probably be on the forthcoming Star Trek bridge which is expected to come in at the same price point.

By in Norway,

Isn't the fire in the wrong rotor? It's the front-left one (lower-middle in the first picture) which will ingest all the failed landings. And no, the standard full-throttle go-around procedure won't work, the plane would still be unable to overcome the downforce from the rotor.

Gravatar
By in United States,

“ This version of the Helicarrier measures 68cm or 26.5 inches long, so it is significantly smaller than 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier”

Uh, if this is 68cm (26.5in) long, that makes this LARGER than the old one, not smaller. The old one is listed at 58.5cm (23in).

They should have made this with 6000 pieces. BIGGER!

No, no, look at the top down shot. They park aircraft right next to that rotor. One defensive maneuver with little warning, and an aircraft, and the tug that’s moving it around the flight deck, can topple right into the ocea…I mean aft port rotor. After which the debris could very likely eventually land in the ocean. You know, as planes and tugs sometimes do.

That's the listed size of the box of the old one.

Edit: With that said, counting some studs on the front portion, and the engines/rotors, of both models they seem pretty equal in size to me. So I'm not sure calling it "significantly" smaller is fair.

Why do they have to lock the most insane minifigs behind the most expensive sets?! :(

Those minifigures make no sense, Winter Soldier and Coulson never appeared in the same film, would be better swapping him out for either Black Widow or Loki

Gravatar

ehhh, I wouldn't say that 12cm is a significant difference in length (original was around 80cm). If anything, it will make it easier to display on a shelf, not that I am picking this one up, regardless.

Nice minifigs. Too bad they’re sitting inside a big set. Oh well…
Will future sets have these minifigs? That remains to be seen.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely will pick this new one up.
But seems much smaller than the original version. I have that one, and I LOVE it. The fans spin and you can put a motor to it and it spins great (just had to fiddle with the spacing on the gears, etc.) and I love the micro figures populating it. I still have it on display to this day.

This one is interesting, scaled down but sleeker than the previous one.
Gotta' get this one and compare side by side.
Excelsior!

Seems like they're combing two movies Helicarriers based on the figures right? Both The Avengers version and the Winter Soldier Insight Carrier?

The old one is 80cm long, making it 12cm longer than the new one

Gravatar
By in United States,

I gotta say I prefer the old one. This one might be slightly more refined but it's significantly smaller, lacks the turbine spinning function and optional motor/lights integration, and microfigs. And it just doesn't look like a $400 set, it feels like $300 would be the 'fair' price point and $350 would be the realistic price point. I can't say this impresses me more than the other recent high-end Marvel sets like the Milano, Benatar, or Quinjet. I guess it's good to get a new version over a decade down the line, but this feels like another one of those sidesteps rather than obvious upgrades.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Hahaha, no.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This is not for me, and that is perfectly ok. I've watched a lot of where this thing appears, but I don't care about it in Lego form, nor about the minifigs.

To me, from the images this new version looks significantly less substantial than the 2015 one. Given that it uses a few more pieces, that is quite an achievement.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

Curious to hear the designer saying in the presentation: "Previous version was much more a LEGO play experience" (understanding that this one is yet another dust collector...). This is disappointing in many senses

Gravatar
By in Germany,

This is clearly a downgrade. Not only is it smaller but the nanofigures have been all removed. These minifigures alone don't make it worth buying and whoever bought the Midiscale version won't need another bigger dust collector to call himself a Marvel fan.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

There was a time when £300 would buy a large and impressive set. This is simply a vehicle to rinse fans with more money than sense. It’s a good looking model but at twice the price it ought to be for the impact it makes. “A fool and his money are soon parted.”

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Think they've screwed up a little here by not having the nano-figs of the first one, but I do think its an overall improvement on the origional with a better line up of mini-figs and better shaping with the more specialised parts.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like this new one but not £330 like it!
But I am glad to finally see Stealth Suit Cap and a new Bucky I hope they both end up in cheaper sets.

The Minifig line up is the best one I've seen since the UCS Avengers Tower and X-Mansion.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

Huge disappointment. Way too expensive for what it is. And I don’t care for “representative figures”, ie 1x1 round plates stacks. It started out as a fun Easter egg in smaller micro sets. Now it’s supposed to be what we play with?! Whatever happened to minifig interior like in older (Star Wars) sets (or newer LOTR sets)? So what if it isn’t on scale. Round bricks aren’t on scale, either. Whatever happened to playability? Is everything now just to collect dust on the shelf? Helms, props, micro-builds, minifigures on a plate..? $400 saved, I guess.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Great to see dual-moulded minifig parts, even if it's just one set of legs and one set of arms. Absolutely worth the $400!

Gravatar

Everything I believed in, shattered, broken, destroyed...by mere words

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

where is the smart-brick integration function?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the original, and when I heard the rumors of this one was not planning on getting it, but now... not sure. It definitely looks more screen-accurate, and having watched the Brick Fanatics video from Fan Media Days, this looks actually swooshable. Everything is attached, whereas there are a lot of microbuilds that are just placed on top of the original. The new one could easily be wall-mounted or displayed at an angle - more options.

The minifigure selection, while somewhat not related to the source material, is impressive. Also nice to get some new figures we've not seen before (stealth Cap! MCU Coulson!) instead of all rehashes.

My original one is still assembled and on display, but might actually get supplanted by this one!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why does it look so much more underwhelming than the original?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've never been one to complain about stickers. (I have even advocated for them in the right circumstance - For highly detailed prints, in 1-off unique pieces, or even when they can be optional.)
But the number of stickers I'm seeing just on the runway surface alone; this is ridiculous. Not to mention in a $400 set. When you have four of a repeating graphic, or simple road plates; there's absolutely no reason those shouldn't be printed.
Again, I don't even mind stickers in sets when the scenario calls for it; but in this set it's enough of a turn-off to ignore this set. Really sad to see it.

Much better than the previous one, which I just built late last year, lol

But not sure if it was really needed

The minifigs are cool and being big enough to easter egg some scenes is nice

But again, not sure if it was really needed

Gravatar
By in United States,

They finally fixed Cap’s helmet after seven years.

They printed the TFA/Avengers (2012) decal on the side of his helmet of almost every minifig for the past seven years (they recently did one with no side printing at all), despite all of his MCU helmets since 2014 having this design instead.

I’d buy ten of that helmet if I could. Hope it appears in a cheaper set soon enough.

By in United States,

I actually think this UCS Helicarrier is much better than the original.

True, the first version had the cool spinning rotors and it was ENORMOUS for the price (made mostly of very large parts instead of mostly of very small parts), but it was sort of the poster child for large, but unrefined and inaccurate builds. How it could be so inaccurate despite coming out three whole years after Avengers Assemble is a longstanding question that's finally been answered by designer interviews for the new version - they designed the old version from concept art before the movie came out and hardly bothered to update it when they finally dusted it off for release three years later. It looked awful from the top side, the front end was poorly attached, the underside was completely unfinished, and despite the strong Technic core the model overall was nearly unswooshable.

By contrast, the new version is made with a high priority for screen accuracy, it's sturdy enough to swoosh one-handed, and it's mostly finished underneath, despite a few rough spots. I really, really appreciate it when a big display model is finished from all angles and is sturdy enough to swoosh, and Lego has been getting much better at that since about 2017 (two years after the first UCS Helicarrier). So, the model itself gets two thumbs up from me.

That price, though ... with 3057 mostly small pieces, six minifigures with no unique molds, and no launch-day GWP, there's no way this is worth more than $300 at most. Compare what you get for $400 to the 3600-part (mostly small parts) Enterprise-D with nine minifigures (two with new headgear) and an amazing launch-day GWP, or the $380 price of the new Black Pearl with only 2862 parts and a mediocre GWP, but still with nine unique minifigures, big hull and mast parts, and big fabric sails. And both the Enterprise and Black Pearl are notably overpriced themselves!

I'm with you on this. I'm surprised so many people like the original more. The only thing I really like about the original over this one is the microfigures.

I was really disappointed when they announced the 2015 model. IMO, at the time, it looked like garbage compared to the Ideas set that failed to make it through the review process in 2014:
https://beta.ideas.lego.com/product-ideas/6b1fc69c-72e0-4af3-bc16-c37a2954c6fc

His original design had 22k pieces but scaled it down to ~6k during the 10k vote cycle.

I don't understand why anyone would want this. I've been watching all the MCU movies in order and just finished winter solider. It sucks! The plot is thinner than the death slice and the fight choreography is so lame they had to speed everything up. Did ya'll even look at the price tag? How does a mini helicarrier worth less than$200 plus 6 minifigs = $400? Don't buy this set

By in United States,

I honestly prefer this new model far me than the original. The only thing that makes the original better is the micro figures and the cheaper price (and the mini fig stand). But this one is a little too small for micro fig scale which is why there are no micro figs. And the price is due to using more smaller pieces instead of bigger pieces as well as inflation since then

Gravatar
By in United States,

Too small for Micro Fig scale. Welcome to the new LEGO.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I'm not a big enough fan of the franchise to buy an expensive display set like this, but I don't see why it would deserve as much negativity as it gets. It's slightly (not "significantly") smaller than the old version, yes, but adjusted for inflation it's actually cheaper. The old one was $350 in 2015, which would be $465 today, compared to $400 for this new one. And it might be subjective, but I think the new one looks much more "realistic", if you can say that about something that's fictional in the first place. The old one even looks dated in comparison to my eyes, which would have been OK if it was old enough to be nostalgic, but I don't think it is, yet.

If what you were hoping for was a big play set, then I can see why you would be disappointed about another display item. But as such, this isn't so bad. Maybe I just don't have a problem with it because I hadn't seen any rumors beforehand. I would like it to be cheaper, though, it's a lot of money for what you get. Nothing new there...

By in United States,

I’m far from negative about most LEGO sets as I tend to love them all for one reason or another. But I agree that we can be a fickle bunch here. That being said, this set IMO is significantly worse than the last one so I will be keeping 76042 on my wish list and passing on this one without pause.

-The 1x1 round plate representations can be surprising Easter eggs when folded into a model’s core build. They are embarrassing when marketed as features.
-This set may be more film accurate but that is not the most important thing to me. The last set looked pretty good to me and I’ve been an Avengers fan for 45 years.
-This set simply feels too small for the price. I enjoy the midi scale ships and the maxi scale ships. I’m not a big fan of this new tier as it simply feels like shrinkflatiion.
-I scoured all pictures from both sets and I honestly can’t fathom how folks prefer the new one. The last one had so much play value. I loved the 3 quinjets, the forklifts, the regular planes, the micro figures, the little command room. The smaller a ship, the more difficult to leverage reasonable little micro builds. They just become 1x2 plates, etc.
- The previous fans look better to me and their function is a big plus.

When the back of the LEGO box mostly only shows film stills, that usually means I’m going to be disappointed/frustrated and the rule is proven once again here.

I really liked what LEGO did with the revised micro Hogwarts, even though it sacrificed some play value with the missing micro figures but added so much more contextual environment. It also offset some of the losses with a much more affordable price tag. I own the larger one and am still very much interested in the smaller one. While LEGO found a way to make those both work, I think they completely dropped the ball with this one..

Yeah I think the thing people care about most here is the bucky head with eyeliner that can be used for Bruce's Drifter in The Batman. Finally!"

I don't know if they kept true to the Batman mythos, but in comics continuity (and repeated in B:TAS), Batman goes by the name Matches Malone when he needs to be a little more discreet when gathering information.

Will be heavily discounted soon enough, just like the recent mini Helicarrier. For under 300 I will consider.
