A set that is sure to get Star Wars collectors into a frenzy has been revealed by Barnes and Noble.

The 147-piece set 5010305 The Mandalorian and Grogu will be available exclusively at in-store building events at some branches of the US retailer on the 2nd of May.

Spaces are limited and, as is the case at the Bridgewater branch which posted about it on Instagram, I suspect all events are oversubscribed already.

Thanks to barukyah for the news.

And here I thought that LEGO said a long time ago they were no longer doing 'exclusive sets'...

So wrong, needs to be available worldwide

By in Romania,

M&R is probably already scrambling all resources to get his hands on this set for a review. :D

By in Netherlands,

I'm not sure if it's cool, hilarious or hideous, but I somehow like it. Is this at the Miniland scale of LEGOLAND theme park diorama's? Curious if more sets like these will be released. And not just in a US 'bookstore' chain. Perhaps I'll build it when the instructions are available, although reverse engineering seems doable too.

They said they will stop doing regional/country exclusives, this is a store excusive which is still extremely common.

"this is a store excusive which is still extremely common." Don't say that, you're totally triggering my LEGO-FOMO disorder ;-D And now I'm very curious if 'exclusive' is a tag on Brickset. Nope?

Hilarious to see euros complaining about this simple set that would be easy to build with pieces when they've been getting the regional exclusive magazine polybags for so many years, allowing access to many desirable minifigures at low prices.

Instructions will soon be available and there doesn't seem to be any hard to find parts. So for anyone that wants to build one, it should be easy. Obviously it is different if you want to display the box.

I'm not even sure if it'll have a box. I've never been to one, but don't "in-store building events" just have you take the parts and instructions away in a plastic bag?

By in Netherlands,

Cute, feels like classic Lego. Lego should do more of this.

The design, that is, not the exclusivity.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Well I hope it will be just bunch of pieces in plastic zip bag, because Lego is fair company and not doing exclusive regional SETs which would make customers from other continents sad :)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Just redbrick it if you really like this Jack Stone Mando. There are zero exclusive parts in this and would probably cost 15 bucks at most. Did the same with Gasgano's Podracer from Walmart.

who cares, this looks ugly
Also this looks more the HE-MAN prototype figure to me...

This is a giveaway in store promo, not a sale item.

By in United States,

“a frenzy” and there’s nothing exclusive in this so anyone can make it on their own… Why is Brickset trying to encourage scalping now?

Gravatar
By in Norway,

It looks like one of those diver figurines you put in fish tanks - especially with the speargun!

By in United States,

My sister got a reserved spot at her local B&N store for this event. I forgot to do it. I’ve been to a B&N LEGO event once and it was for a small Batmobile.

By in United States,

To everyone getting upset at this set, please look at this link (https://brickset.com/sets/subtheme-Promotional/theme-Star-Wars) and mentally remove anything that's a GWP. Note how many of these are exclusive to a store and/or country. I didn't even know about the Bantha one until today.

It's a giveaway intended to get customers into non-Lego Store shops. That's all. I'm shocked at the number of "I hate this set and it should be available everywhere" comments in here as if this wasn't for the under 10 crowd anyway.

Yeah, reminds me of the old Toys R Us building events - you would just get the parts and build it in the store. I would take my son to all of them . . . great free event, he loved it!

By in Australia,

Meh... this is not like the Kanto Badge set, which has an exclusive sticker sheet and one part in a colour only found in that set, in which buying them off BrickLink would cost you about EUR 75.00

This is all easy to acquire elements. If you really want it desperately, just wait for the instructions to be published and hit up PaB for the parts.

Yup, all are oversubscribed. Called 4 different ones in my general area.

Denmark (as in Greenland sovereign nation) should simply stop selling to your country!!

One event is full near me, the other isn't even taking reservations yet. I don't think I'll worry too much about it. Free is nice, but it's whatever.

It has a set number so it implies it will be distributed as a set rather than loose parts that you get yourself from bins. But, yes it could be a polybag or some other packaging. It isn't obvious to me if the image is a poster or the front of the instructions or the packaging. Some of the MMMBs came in printed polybags, some didn't. But they used to be quite small compared to this. So yeah, probably printed instructions inside a zip-lock style bag.

Either way, it is still easy to build from parts for anyone that really wants it.

My wife and I took our kids to the recent Barnes and noble free event and that set was in a Lego pic a brick style zip lock bag.

I'm thinking it's a little bit shorter, like early teenager.

It varies between events. I've been to some TRU builds, and some LEGO Store builds. Most had trays of parts laid out that you would collect your pieces from, and a single paper instruction sheet (sometimes double-sided). They did a Brickheadz build at the LEGO Store for Wonder Woman (https://brickset.com/sets/DCBHZ-1/Wonder-Woman), and I don't think we were allowed to keep a set of instructions (but we could photograph them). I also remember the parts being presorted into large PAB cups, so you could just get right to building. I think the NAIAS TLBM "Speedwagon" Batmobile was another one where you didn't get to keep the instructions. Conversely, they did a TRU build of Rod "Torque" Redline from Cars 2, and that came with a sticker sheet to add the eyes, mouth, and license plate.

No, the "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" kid's game show that aired on PBS.

As soon as the instructions are online, I will part it out

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mando? Looks like an original series Cylon to me. Which is awesome!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The instructions for the B&N builds have been beautiful, full color, stapled instruction booklets. These events get filled rather quickly. I signed up for this event when trying to sign up for the previous build! That one was already full but the employee asked if I wanted to sign up for the next one, which I did.

I know where I'll be on the 2nd! B&N followed by a trip to the LEGO Store in the same mall.
