This does look pretty good, but the closest I came to The X-Files was liking Catatonia, so several other August releases will take precedence.

I'm a fan of the show but the set doesn't interest me at all.

That price really made me hesitate. Even with the GWP, it is high.

They won’t do it, but I’d love an X-files logo a la the Marvel and SW ones.

I like-ish the set. The minifigures are great, but as others have said, the build is rather non-descript (but that’s also the nature of the show).

Edit: comparing the submission, the office suffered from the downscale for sure - this feels far less real. If I get it, I’ll have to try to mod it.

Looks a great deal like the submission (although again how good it looks in reality depends a lot on the lighting) which is a positive, and I wasn't expecting a GWP with this.

That price though, it's an easy pass. It's not nearly important enough to my nostalgia for that kinda money!

I like this set - the original was significantly better because the spaceship was not just a pancake. My main gripe is Scully's suit colour. While she is 99.5% percent of the time in a navy blue or black suit, they decided to put her in a brown suit. I think I also prefer the alien's head from the cmf series 6 8827-1 (but this one might be more accurate from the series). Still, I will get it when the GWP is available despite the outrageous price (even including a gwp) - since Lego hardly ever do any Ideas sets I like, I suppose I will vote with my money when they do.

I have been waiting for this set to be officially released since I saw the leak. Aside from the absence of Tooms, I love it, even the price is cheaper than I expected.

Scully wore brown suits alot in season one. It's great they got her to introduce the set.

Can't wait to build this.

We just re-watched the show for the first time a few months ago, it's still great, though it's hard to say where a good place to stop is as it slowly declines. It definitely holds up, at least through the movie. I would love to have this set, but I don't think I really -need- to have it. We'll see. Who can say no to Flukeman...

Great-looking set and so glad to see Brent Waller get an official set! The price is indeed high, though at 13.5c ppp it's basically in line with other Disney IPs, most notably Star Wars, which suggests the price here is Disney's doing more than Lego's.

Well pretty much everything I wanted to say about this sets already been covered. Love that its pretty much identical to the original submission, hate the price, zero surprise they dropped Tooms due to the actor having gone very creepy in recent years...

I have watched quite a bit of X-files back in the day and always enjoyed it, but can't say I remember all that much of it. Regardless, this does look quite nice, and fits the atmosphere of the show quite well. So design wise a win. If anything, I kinda wish they had incorporated the iconic X-logo in one way or another.

The price though....€200 for less than 1500 pieces seems rather steep indeed, and when you see it right next to the GWP, it's not all too big either. And the fact that pretty much every decoration besides the "The truth is out there" and maybe the "I want to believe" tiles seems to be a sticker doesn't really help either. Still I might be tempted to buy it if can get it at a good discount.

Oh, and it obviously should have included a Sound Brick with the X-files theme!

I'd pay £20 for the GWP, it's neat.

The back side of this set must be ugly, not a single photo of it. The most surprising thing for about this reveal was reading the comment section to learn that there is a full X-Files movie. Somehow it didn't registered in my memory even though I watched the og series when it premiered. Weird.

Two movies: (1) The X Files 1998 7.0 star (if you want to watch only one movie, this is the one to watch) (2) The X Files: I want to believe 2008 5.9 star.

Edit: Apparently, another (2nd, 3rd,???) director's cut is coming in August 2026.

There is a 360 degree video on the Lego website......though just when you get to see the backside, it massively speeds up. They clearly don't really want you to see it ;-)

But honestly, I can't really care about that, and would consider it kinda a waste of pieces if it would look good from the back (considering it is Lego we're talking about, they would make you pay for it....). And unless you display it like with a mirror behind it, no one is ever gonna see.

The truth is out there. And the truth is LEGO is pricey! (and I've heard the argument a million times how much it hasn't increased compared to 30 years ago and blah blah blah. That doesn't change the fact that I'm needing to spend money right now on things, not 30 years ago, so it is still expensive for right now for what it is).

With that out of the way...I've only seen a few episodes (the suburb HOA episode with the sewer monster? and the one where they go into the video game and that dude gets his arms cut off) and the movie. I know very little about the IP otherwise. The set looks neat and if it was considerably cheaper, I'd consider picking it up.

Maybe if I binge watch the series and fall in love with it, I'll pick it up because at that point I'll HAVE to!

If you pause the video on the Lego website and scrub back to the beginning you get a pretty good look at the back. It’s mostly a smooth grey wall with occasional interruptions for connections or details you see on the inside. Nothing special, nothing terrible.

Also, I don’t care. I’m not looking at the back of a set like this at any point after building it and finding a nice shelf for it to live on, barring dusting incidents and so on. I have a very nice mini Nanoblock Sagrada set that has some quite nice (and fiddly to build) detail at the back, and it hardly ever matters because I don’t put it on the shelf facing backwards, and even with the set being considerably smaller and lighter and easier to pick up and rotate than a large Lego display model I’m just not doing that very often.

I was too young for most of the X-Files’ first run and unlike my slightly older sibling never either went back to catch up or got into the later stuff (I found the Terminator 2 guy alarming as a hero), in part because unlike them I never developed a massive waiting-outside-the-stage-door level crush on Gillian Anderson, so most of the Fun References here are entirely lost on me. Still, it looks nice and I hope it makes fans happy.

It's too expensive, it's too expensive.
For the young collector. Lego has ALWAYS been expensive. Don't listen to these guys.
It's that Lego doesn't give you a range anymore, from the same theme.
Like a $10 -$15 set, to a $20 - $40, an $80 and over a $100. All within a theme so you can enjoy something from said property.

If you truly want it, save for it. Wait for that Amazon sale and save, and in a couple months, you'll have it and enjoy it a whole lot more because you sacrificed something, you worked a little more, etc.
Much more satisfying.
And don't let the bozos tell you it's better with Aliexpress and the like. Those knock off brands pay their workers extremely low wages, no medical, no vacation time or pay, long hours and they use often teen labor. There's a whole human rights study on this.

The X-Files is one of my go-to old series that I've re-watched several times. So I have been waiting for this one, anticipating that it would be expensive as always. But man that price is especially rough. I see now why most sets with a specific subject like this are priced the way they are. Because this time I knew all along that I would want it early, with the GWP if there was one, not really caring about the price. But this is the one time when, for me personally, I don't care. That's a horrible realization.

Looking at the actual design though, I'm surprised by how similar the final set is to the fan submission. I was expecting a total redesign of the layout, as the fan submission seemed to rely too heavily on artificial light effects to look good, otherwise being basically a dark cave. But I think this works well, the basement office was always quite dim. As was the entire show really, playing into the overall spookiness.

Now, as a first-timer for this kind of thing, is this a "place your order at midnight or you're bust" situation? I'm kind of guessing it is.

Interesting! I re-watched that episode recently and only then realized that the guy who's head is about to explode is played by Bryan Cranston. Not a coincidence then!

Way more tempted by this than I expected to be since I don't really remember more than a couple of episodes of it... A very nice set, shame about the price!

I don’t think you should feel bad about it. We've all got things where we feel extra fannish about it and it changes our mental perception of what something is worth. Maybe it will just help you understand why other people feel about sets differently sometimes! :)

Is the GWP “officially” an Ideas set too? Can’t see the branding anywhere unlike the Goonies GWP…

At first glance the office appears to be densely packed with many fun details. But looking closer I don't see anything special. The printed parts, trophy, and microfigs are common and boring. The best details are the stickers.

I hope it satisfies everyone who ends up buying it. I'm skipping it, I expect I would be disappointed.

I really like this.

I suspect I probably won't add the spaceship as it seems necessary and a little ugly (yes I understand it was in the original submission, that doesn't make it any better and was always a detraction) the aliens were always fun, but it was monster of the week that made X-Files peak back in the day.

I certainly like it but I'm still surprised Lego greenlit this set, it even includes some of the creepiest elements from the show. I mean the GWP includes a freaking autopsy table...
At this point they might as well make sets based on the Alien franchise too.

Isn't that precisely cause that's what you do? In the GWP article (https://brickset.com/article/125874) some while ago @Vesperas mentions how the price of the GWP is baked into the set price, you're paying for it no matter if you get it or not. There seems to be a pattern where the difference between a set's initially rumoured and actual price tends to amount to the value of the set-specific GWP. As he says: "Anyone that buys the set at full price but doesn't receive the GWP is just being straight-up ripped off".

With 1478 pieces this set should be around $150, or 1500kr here. With the GWP, 1700kr may be justified. But no, the price here in Norway is 2700kr either you get the GWP or not, close to twice what's reasonable.

I'd say the opposite - the only good thing about this GWP is that you won't miss out on much if you don't get it. Imagine the frustrations if The Lone Gunmen was only available as a short-time GWP (which many would miss out on even if they ordered in time). Missing out on something like that often feels worse than it not being available at all.

I really hope these suit torsos are freely available and used for other figures in themes such as modular buildings.

I dont know anything about the IP but the set looks good and as others have said its good it appears to have mostly stuck to the IDEAS submission.

You were either Team X-Files or Team Star Trek.
I was on the latter.
And even though I watched and enjoyed the movie (and own it on DVD), I have never seen a full episode of the show.
So even if the price wasn't as ludicrous as it is I would probably pass on this set. It's not bad but it just doesn't do anything for me.

Love the video, If I as an X-Files fan, that video might changed my mind getting it.

I get the appeal of the office, I really do, but I feel like the ideal X-Files set was just the forest part with the TriFO. Even overpriced, that would've still been in a price bracket where the hit to the wallet's something I could pretend didn't matter, and I probably would've gotten the set and replaced the heads with Space Police aliens and the Grey with a regular minifig to recreate that one episode of Babylon 5 Crusade.

Please can we keep to topic. Personally, not sure about the need for the office. I would prefer just to have the secret underground alien experiment lab which disappears when the duo arrive at the end of the show. Also need a few more aliens, half-open one on operating table, others trying to save them with blasters etc. I don't remember the invisible man with the bandages, but maybe an alien memory wipe.

Kinda love this, but the price is putting me off buying it straight away. Love the build for the UFO but it's a pity that it doesn't up in some way for a neat little easter egg or something

I watched at least one full episode. Someone killed a guy by forcing his body to produce human pheromones, which we don’t naturally produce. Except we do, but we think they smell bad because we’re constantly showering and bathing them away. So I determined that their science was even more factually unsound than Star Trek’s, and stopped watching.

And now we know how certain brands can provide sets with fully-printed deco instead of relying on sticker sheets, and still come in way under TLG for PPP. Overhead’s cheap when you eliminate payroll from the equation.

Direct source? Particularly regarding Lumibricks. I searched with Google for the sources you mentioned yet came up with nothing.
Unless you can provide a proper source I have to assume that you simply made that up.
Thorsten from Johnny's World has several videos of him visiting Chinese manufacturers, and even though most of them are several years old even back then conditions don't seem to match what you describe. And going by how fast these industries advance it is only reasonable to assume that conditions will have further improved since then.
Also, who says that conditions in LEGO factories in China are any different from others. Have you been there and seen for yourself how things are?

Then just delete the (parts of) posts that fuel that discusssion. False allegations only to justify high Lego prices should have no place here either.
