How was it for you?

Posted by ,

From what I'm reading, LEGO should be ashamed of itself for the atrocious shambles that occurred today at shop.LEGO.com particularly given that it's perhaps the most important day of the year in terms of new product launches.

I think we can conclude that the shop.LEGO.com team must have had a hell of a hangover this morning and have only just got round to sorting out some of the issues:

  • In the USA, every new product was out of stock, 'ships in 30 days' until a couple of hours ago.
  • In the UK and Europe, the headline products launched today, Slave I and Detective's Office, were not available to buy until a couple of hours ago even though the banners were live much earlier.
  • Ninjago, Ultra Agents and probably other products can be purchased but there are no images of them on the server.
  • New Star Wars sets are now listed, hours after they should have been. No sign of DC Super Heroes yet.
  • Ideas Birds is still 'coming soon' in Europe.
  • Everything decent in the sale is 'call to check product availability' and the sales lines are not open today.

We've been able to update our data, so to see what's actually available I suggest you view our listings (UK | USA) which make it much easier to see what's new.

In the UK list you'll see that the Flower Cart is listed as being available to purchase at 1p. It appears to be possible to add it to your basket and check out...

So, how was it for you? I decided to make the 90-mile round trip to the Brighton store first thing and managed to get everything I wanted, except the Frozen set. The shop was well stocked with new Super Heroes, Star Wars, Ultra Agents, Creator, Bionicle, Technic, Friends, City, Ninjago and exclusives and there were no queues or crowds like I've been reading about elsewhere. I met CapnRex101 there and we are now both well stocked up with new stuff to keep the reviews coming for a good few weeks.

By in Australia,

In Australia most things are now available however there is no starwars at-dp polybag and the $50 increase in price of the tumblr is just disgusting

Gravatar
By in United States,

EDIT: Ultra Agents and Ninjago are now up with no pictures, however, when I went to Shop it changed my country to Hungary. Something is definitely wrong there...

Protectors still OOS.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I had no issues, after I decided to put my shoes on and go to the shop. Was slightly disappointed that we didn't get the AT-DP polybag, though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Considering that in quite a few of the previous years TLG added the next year's products to the UK LEGO.com on Christmas Day, this is quite a big difference. UK's AT DP poly could easily be a TRU pickup or newspaper promotion later in the year. That sale is hideous though

By in Sweden,

Still waiting for Lincoln memorial and Birds... Coming soon...

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I just managed to order the Detective's Office and Slave 1 after the problems that occured during the whole day on the website (Belgium). Ideas Birds still not able to order. Regrettable but I hope the problems will be solved by tomorrow.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Disappointing I would also pick up some ninjago sets accept I cant even find them. I stayed up until everything said 'will ship in 30 days than went to sleep for when they relly did come out. got my order through a few minutes ago

By in United Kingdom,

Still no SH sets on the UK page, Other themes slowly trickled through over the day but was looking forward to SH and nothing...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

You can't buy the Bionicle sets in the UK site yet, but is you change the country to the USA on the website click on the set you want and then change the country back the UK you can buy the sets.:D

By in Ireland,

Dreadful to only see 2 replies to users addressing the issue over on Twitter https://mobile.twitter.com/lego_group, just take the hit and post a couple of tweets saying look there's an issue and it will take a couple of hours to sort. Having links on homepage to pages saying the products that don't exist is laughable or changing January 1st to coming soon.

Having created online shops for many companies selling in multiple currencies and different shipping/delivery methods and promotions for certain countries using free open source tools WordPress/with jigoshop or woocommerce it's just impossible to see why in 2014/15 they have this dreadful online shopping experience that falls over with large traffic and gets confused by what country you're in or today have links to products that don't exist or can't be purchased (it just takes a few minutes to realize you have links to products that don't exist and just revert back to the previous homepage blocks with a bit if ctrl + z) or a sale page asking you to ring a number to check availability.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Until a moment ago where they fixed it I was ready to forget the poly bag and just buy the sets I wanted from a local store. I was also MOST DISPLEASED.

By in United Kingdom,

Have done the same, went over to US site, added items to cart, then returned to UK site where the basket recognizes the items and quickly placed the order. (Only tried with SH sets)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got everything I wanted around 10am EST but everything I added to my carts (multiple purchases) was out of stock for 30 days. As Lego has followed up on my orders with emails, the Series 13 minifigs are the only items that they appear to truly be out of stock.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The new Technic and City sets are showing available now. Earlier everything was out of stock. Someone must of forgot to put a quantity number in the listings :P

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

On the subject of poor organisation...
I got the Mini Cooper for Xmas and it had the wrong bags of pieces in it. I got an email telling me that replacement parts would be sent as soon as they are back in stock...
But they have the Mini for sale now on the website...
Surely they can just open a box, send me what I need and put the rest of the bags back into the system.
Clearly the prospect of getting more money from prospective customers is more important than statisfying the ones who have already paid!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wound up going to my local Lego store, got every set I wanted, plus 2 poly bags. The store was quite crowded, but it was totally worth not having to wait on a shipment. Things worked out for the best!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So....the Black Manta set is $39.99 in America. Current exchange rate makes that £25. Our price for it is £49.99. Which is not only fair but also very reasonable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I dunno, everything went well for me. While I can't speak for our European bretheren, I just went to the LEGO store near me and picked up what I was looking for. From what I could see (or cared to, I was really only looking at Star Wars) they were fully stocked on everything. I actually just bought the Senate Commando's battle pack, having pre-ordered the T-16 Skyhopper from Amazon.

Sorry to hear launch day didn't go all that well for you guys, at least it seems things got better. I guess I'm personally a little spoiled given that I live pretty close to an actual LEGO store.

In other news, though, everyone needs to get one of those new six-round rotary stud launchers. They work fantastic and are a ton of fun to use!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^I can't even see the SH sets to complain about the poor exchange rate. Shambles sums it up rather well. (Saving omnishambles for another day).

Gravatar
By in Poland,

In Poland prices of Tumbler and Mini are higher now. Great news (in addition to sale and updating the site mess). Happy New Year! :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I would of said "hello" if I saw you there this morning - I was there with my son just after opening. The new Lego Red Creatures 3-in-1 is awesome! I picked up one and its setting very nicely built (as a dragon) on my desk. Well worth the £12.99.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well I saw they were out of stock on LEGO.com this morning so I went to my local Target and they had all of the new Star Wars sets they had all of the DC Super Heroes sets but 76025 so I asked one of the workers and they said they had no more but then I walk down another isle and there it is. Other wise they also had all of the LEGO movie sets and city, creator they also had all of the Bionicle sets and they had no Ninjago nor ultra agent sets. But I did come out of the store with all of the sets I came looking for in the end including there last S13 minifigure

Gravatar
By in United States,

I had a positive experience visiting the Lego store just north of Seattle, WA. I arrived an hour and a half after opening. The line was just outside the entrance. It was chaotic haha. I grabbed the Double Decker couch, a sand baseplate, didn't see the Detective Agency or Elsa's Castle on shelves, but was informed while in line everything was stocked behind the counter. I also spotted the Valentine's Day set "Marriage Proposal" and picked that up! A nice surprise! Upon reaching the counter I got the rest of the sets I was after. They were well stocked in everything, even saw the Batman Tumbler on the shelves. Even though I didn't purchase a Star Wars or Friends set, the clerk still gave me all the promo polybags, plus cashed in my Lego calendar coupon for Lego store employee mini fig. An incredible haul feeling quite satisfied. :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Okay, dumb question: I live in the US. If I ordered the Detective's Office when the site said "out of stock, ships in 30 days", it won't actually take that long, right?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@burkie, spot on. In this day and age it's inexcusable. Website problems damage the company's reputation badly.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well just by looking that everything was out of stock or call for availability etc I decided against it. Ever so tempted for Slave 1 but maybe another time. All the City,Friends,Chima and series 13 minifigures are in TRU now. I will wait until a few weeks until everything hits the stores.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

TLG did certainly mss things up a little today. Banners that led to nowhere, a promotional polybag that took it's time to appear in the shoppingbag as promised, sets not being available while they should have and sale offers that, ah, well, anyway. There will be some uncomfortable meetings tomorrow at TLG's headquarters, I guess.

Then again, I managed to order what I wanted. Fingers crossed my order will arrive soon...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It was a real pain as I was hoping to get the Bionicle sets early as I knew they would sell like hotcakes. I spent till 5:30am waiting for the sets and eventually had to acknowledge they wouldn't be out till later.

As for sales and deals it was a complete scam, none of the sets were available and many lines such as Hero Factory had offers on products that were written as 'out of stock' and were unable to buy. It was just a complete disappointment and worry to me as someone who was waiting for the January 1st Bionicle Global release... was beginning to think that it wouldn't be till February.

Now that I have the sets ordered I'm glad that they managed to at least get it partially working on the 1st... but the site is still broken :L

Gravatar
By in United States,

I ordered almost everything Star Wars that was new today just a few minutes ago (USA LEGO.com) and the only thing out of stock was the Hailfire Droid. I had actually forgotten about all the new stuff until just now! Got about 50 new sets all together.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I saw the same issues and called my 'local' (69mi away) store to see what they had. They gladly set the two most important sets to me (Green Lantern & Brainiac) aside. I packed up the family and made the trek and walked out with sets I hadn't planned on buying yet because they were there. ;-)

I saw lots of sad kids though since the Frozen set sold out in 30 minutes of opening. The employees were handing out the polybags to kids that were in this boat. Gotta hand it to the Peabody, MA (USA) employees, they are always friendly and customer service oriented.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I know I've said it several times, but honestly, this hiccup is pretty much inexcusable so I'll say it again. Bad form LEGO. For a company who makes millions and prides itself in excellent customer service, the least they can do is have a website that actually runs properly. How hard is it to create pages in advance and then set up some sort of timing algorithm for them? Can't be that hard since so many other major websites can make new product available and add discounts to existing stock at midnight on the dot. They used to do it, but now it seems every new product launch recently on LEGO.com takes at least 6 hours to show up.

So I actually did something I haven't done in all my life: went out shopping on New Year's Day. At least the brand store was very well prepared, mostly well stocked and friendly and I was able to secure some of what I wanted (the only thing preventing me from getting more was money).

What I will say is though: this is the last time I constantly monitor LEGO.com for new releases until LEGO can get their act together and fix LEGO.com. Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but I'm rightly unimpressed! :o/

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

popped into the brighton store this afternoon (if you'd said there was a mini brickset meet up, i'd have gone over earlier!) and despite being busy, i was able to find everything i wanted. although i did only get the 70818 and 70817...

that being said, i wanted to get the remaining two sets from the ultra agents line before they were retired (70163 and 70164) and in speaking to one of the guys in-store, there is not much chance that they will be restocked and if i want them it is best to get them from the online store if they are there...

so, if anyone wants them, can you hold off till i get them first, thanks ;)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If you live in the UK this is bound to work, I can't say for any other countries though.

Go to the US site, find a theme that is not available in your region and click on the set you want, change the country to your home country and then press add to bag.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Milton Keynes store was pretty well full up for at least the first 45 mins this morning. Queue went a long way around the store. Most people had SW sets and many had DD Couch, and a lot of people were spending £200+. Staff were struggling to get stock onto shelves, and were taking requests at the stock room door, and piling popular sets outside it. All pretty good natured and polite. Got tan base plate, red creatures, and the emerald train. Elsa was sold out 20 mins after opening, so we got Rapunzel instead!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just went to my lego store on Tuesday and they had the 2015 sets out so I just got the ones I wanted then

Gravatar
By in United States,

Still no add to bag for birds. :(

Also the next button on sales and deals redirects to the home page.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

The shop at home experience is terrible today in EU, one of most important days of the year for new releases and such a mess.. Very disappointed..

Gravatar
By in United States,

I didn't buy anything online but went to the store in King of Prussia, PA. They didn't have any of the new DC, Star Wars, Series 13 CMF's or City sets out. They had a few of the new movie sets, but not many.

I can honestly say this was the first time I was not happy with the service.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

No shopping for me today - I'm just hoping the problems are sorted by the 5th...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Does anyone know why the TIE Advanced Prototype and the T-16 Skyhopper (Sets I just ordered) are the same price in dollars as pounds?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Bought a few things when it said "will ship in 30 days," which once it became "available" I recieved an email regarding my order. Certainly a poor update to the website all around.

Already bought a couple 2015 sets from ToysRUs earlier. Just need to be mindful of which sets have inflated prices.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It sure was a crazy day. Good thing I already got some of the new BIONICLE and The LEGO Movie sets a few days ago at Target.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I went to the Lego Store here in Columbus, OH around 3pm and they were pretty much wiped out of everything that was new. I managed to snag the last Birds set but was wanting to get the Valentine's Day Proposal set, but that was gone as well. I saw no Slave 1's, Modulars of any kind, same with Tumblers, etc. Needless to say it'll be a couple of weeks before they are completely restocked from what I was told by a few of employee's. Although I did get the Flower Cart and Lego Employee mini-fig with my Birds. But like others have said, it was a pretty bad launch day

Gravatar
By in Hong Kong,

Total rubbish. I got excited that is was working again after yesterday's nonsense, the flower cart went in to the order and......." Oops! We are experiencing technical difficulties with your order "
That's why I shop at Amazon instead of LEGO.com.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

In Australia, it was a bloody shambles. It is already the morning of the second and I have only just been able to put my order for Detective's Office. There was no notification of a 30% off sale to VIP customers and when you went to it just about every sale item is out of stock. This is deceitful advertising. How can a product so good have a sales system which is disgraceful? In Australia we have to pay Lego's 'lets screw the Aussies 50% more then the U.S. customers' surcharge, then GST and then we get a raw deal from the VIP program. What a joke!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like Amazon got my money today instead of LEGO, I guess that's their bad. :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

But lego already got Amazon's money, so they got paid either way...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Wow 30% off Superstar Destroyer... What an offer for us Aussies... Oh wait, out of stock! What a crock! Maybe I should drive to my local Lego store! Oh that's right my nearest store is 15000 miles away! Unless I go to the overpriced store at Legoland Malaysia. My point is us Aussies only have the website to rely on and it failed us miserably.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I went to the store itself (US) and had a great experience. It was crowded but everything I wanted was on the shelf (DC and movie sets). It was crowded and Frozen sets were gone within seconds abd some other sets went quickly. I also picked up the Valentines set (which shows a preview of an Easter/spring diorama of a kitchen with an egg painting theme). I also got my flower cart and my Lego store employee minifigure without much hassle.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I visited my local Lego Store in Sheffield this morning.

Managed to pick up Slave 1, Detectives Office and Birds. The queue was long and I arrived 30 minutes after opening, by the time I reached the tills they had sold out of Slave 1, I guess I got there just in time. About an hour later it seemed that they had sold out of the Detectives Office, the shelves were being picked over pretty quickly...

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

The shop at home experience is a disaster this year, still no new sets, the prices went up on some sets and the sales items are all sold out long time ago,,

Gravatar
By in United States,

When I found LEGO again in 2010 I was really impressed with how great their customer service was. I even mentioned it in a college paper. It has been getting worse and worse ever since. Thank you for opening this up for discussion, Huw.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'm miffed by the supposed 'sales'. The Star Wars sets that are reduced were sold out long before TLG reduced them on LEGO.com. Apparently the prices and products on sale are very different depending on region. Once again Canadians are SOL'd when it comes to this. Really don't know how TLG managed to drop the ball today, at least my order went through.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm too disgusted by how Lego, can increase the price of the tumbler by $50. And is there a release date for the DC Justice League sets in Australia, because I see some ridiculous prices for sets on e bay.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

^ From the catalogue (that came this week), the new superhero sets are due out in Australia in March. I can wait until then, so I'm not too worried.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Most of the new Star Wars sets I've wanted I've found at Toys'R'Us over the last week, but I really wanted to pick up the Slave 1 set. I kept refreshing the site and was able to purchase it about 12 hours ago. Originally it showed 30 days to ship, then said available, then said 2 weeks.

Currently my order status is "In Warehouse" so, fingers crossed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

At the Lego store at Arrowhead Towne Center in Phoenix AZ they didn't have any Lego employee figures. They never received them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Do you have a link to this catalogue Zordboy? If not do you know the prices in Australian for the sets?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very disappointed, frustrated that nothing was available online. Decided to drive to local Lego store went in to get the stormtrooper battle pack and T16 skyhopper and none were on the shelf. Asked two employees if they had any in the back went and checked both came back and told me they didnt have any left. got in line and paid for skyhopper and as I am walking out of the store they are stocking the stormtrooper battle pack after they told me there were none left. So I had to get back in line to buy the battlepacks.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was going to do some shopping today, but the Mindstorms sensor I was going to buy was "call to check product availability," and no one was there today, so I couldn't. :/

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It has been very disappointing here in Australia. No sale until Jan 1 (yet USA had it 26/12); no Friends or Star Wars bonus sets; the flower cart appeared yesterday on the home page yet only appeared added in the cart today; detective agency and Slave 1 "add to cart" box appeared today (2/1) and we're still waiting for the bird set "add to cart" link to appear, even though it is live in US. We have a banner for the inside tour offer but the link goes to same page (landing home page). All in all, very disappointing and frustrating.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I think cappie, Zordboy and fipat have pretty much summarised the Australian mess. I'm really tired of suffering the "Australia-Tax" from every multinational as an excuse to increase the price.

Some added nonsense:
- I bought some (of the few) 30% off sets very early on 1 January, before the free cart banner even appeared. Both qualifying (they have to be to get free shipping in Oz). I emailed Lego and am waiting for a response as the promotion starts 1 January 2015, not "sometime when we remember to click upload to the website because we can't automate the update procedure" time.

- I'm sensing LEGO-AU VIP members aren't receiving any emails? When was the last time you got an email? I thought it was my email address bouncing (orders come through fine), but I'm after reading comments above I suspect it's a bigger issue.

- The Arctic City line disappeared for a while on 1 January, now it's back but not much left. Looks like it only had a short shelf life.

- Detective's Office is now available for order,r but I'm holding out to the 5th in case we get some deal. Of course by then anything else I want will be gone (not that there is much to get as it's all SOLD OUT to Call for info)

I guess this is how LEGO force me to save my $$$ rather than waste it frivolously.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I bet there were some embarrassed faces at the TLG end-of-year meeting when they realised they weren't already charging enough for the Tumbler in Australia. Lucky for everyone they were able to swiftly rectify the problem by whacking another $50 on top just in time for the New Year sale. Phew! Crisis averted.

As for the birds set? Nope, keep holding your breath. Lincoln memorial? You're still holding your breath right?

Detective Agency? Yes that's okay, we've added the 43% onto the US price and finally made it available.
Slave 1? Yes, 50% added to the price and we've flicked the switch on that too.

Thinking of going to a local store instead of using the buggy site? You had better find your passport first.

Thanks TLG from all of us down under (your boot)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I went to the local store (US) shortly after opening this AM. It was very busy, and the Slave I's appeared to be moving quickly. But I was able to get the sets I wanted (Slave I, Frozen, and a small Lego Friends set) with 3 free poly bags. Things seemed to be moving efficiently at the store even though it was busy.

Gravatar

Purchased detectives office and the new city tow truck around 2:00pm est here in the US. Got the free flower cart. No problems at all.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I watched a documentary a while back about Lego. TLG is of the opinion that the their new CEO saved them a few years ago. While I was watching I couldn't help but think, the PEOPLE who saved you were your long time fans and customers, not one guy. That one guy may have realized exactly this but TLG may not. The same went for Apple, Jobs was only able to "save" Apple because there was a customer base committed to their product. If not for the customers, there would be nothing to save. It is disturbing to see a Scandinavian company becoming full of idolatry. May not bode well for the long term.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Release over 100 new sets and start your end of year sale on a day when customer service was closed, perfect storm.

They say hindsight is a wonderful thing, but surely it's not too much to expect to see a little foresight from a company who's ethos is only the best is good enough.

It is bad pretty bad, when the only way to buy the birds set in Scotland on the official release date is 2xRRP on ebay.

On a positive note I was just able to order the Birds set on the UK website.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Decided to take the drive to the physical Lego store nearest to me (which is an hour away). Got there before it opened. Was able to score a Slave I along with a handful of other new Star Wars sets (Anakin's Clone Wars JSF, Shadow Troopers, Imperial a Troop Transport, AT-DP and all six new Microfighters). Also picked up Elsa's Ice Castle for my niece. Split up my purchases and was able to walk away with six AT-DP polybags and two flower carts. So in a nutshell, it worked out pretty well for me, glad I made the drive based on all the problems the website seems to have had today.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Australian VIPs have a banner to "WIN an Inside Tour", but it doesn't lead anywhere when clicked (only to the same page you are already on). VERY annoying. I can't believe how much they have messed up!

Oh, and Aussie prices... As well as the fact that they recently increased the free shipping threshold from $150 to $200 :(

We really need a LEGO store here in Australia. The USA must have at least one per state or something! We have none.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I was able to get all the BIONICLE protectors with no issues... My order tracking already says "in warehouse."

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I knew there'd be grief, and as I only wanted the City Demolition sets, went to the Liverpool One store and picked them all up, and a 2nd Exo Suit, on the 29th.

nothing new. Their online shop infrastructure has been a mess for years.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hi everyone! First time posting although I've been visiting the site for the past year.

In America here and like everyone else I shared in today's LEGO binge, though I'm lucky enough to live near a LEGO store so I apparently missed the online shenanigans.

Three hours after opening and got the last Detective's Office (main reason for the trip and my sixth modular set), Double-Decker Couch, the Creator Toy & Grocery, and a couple of new Microfighters. Split up the purchase so I scored two Flower Carts and also got my Lego Store Minifig from the coupon. Only hiccup was that in the purchase including the Microfighters I was made to choose between the Flower Cart or the Star Wars promo - I was told I could not have both, which seemed odd since the website stacks the promos. Oh well, not a big deal considering everything I've read here.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

In reading the comments from the Australian members, I have similar issues here in NZ. I am convinced that TLG are charging premium prices exactly similar to the local stores but where the local stores have tax added TLG does not. Therefore TLG price is 15% excessive. I started a discussion on the Forum to get some feedback - http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/18106/is-tax-included-in-purchases-from-shop-lego-comlatest

I am interested in some feedback from members in other countries.

@ Albus: NZ VIPs also have a banner to "WIN an Inside Tour", but it doesn't lead anywhere when clicked (only to the same page you are already on).

Although I'm notta gonna buy before the 5th because of the double VIP-points, we had the same problems in Holland. Well, 3 more days and I hope to pick up the Slave I and the birds!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I know it's an old complaint, but as an Australian Lego fan (and I really do love Lego. I wouldn't be here if I didn't), I too am very tired with the way Lego treats us. The prices here are just ridiculous. I don't like using Lego.com, because the shipping costs are outrageous (and the last time I used it, to get Santa's Workshop, I did have problems with the site).

In terms of the shipping cost, I remember a few years ago, I had to return something to them. They charged me $30 to ship it to me, but Australia Post only charged about $10 for me to send it the other way. The fact that they gouged twenty dollars out of me, for no reason whatsoever, made me see red, as a consumer. And that's before you get to prices that make it more economical to buy Lego via eBay or Bricklink and import it from other continents (!), than to buy it from somewhere near Sydney. I understand they're a business and yes, I'm a hypocrite because after all these years I'm still buying their toys ... but I still think it stinks, how they treat their Australian (and apparently NZ) customers, is all.

Why can't I call Customer Service in Denmark from Australia, I used to be able to last year, did they change something.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

@Zordboy - NZ Post have created a service which makes it possible to have a UK, USA and Chinese shipping address.
I can get LEGO shipped from shop.LEGO.com in Denmark to UK for free. Free shipping to UK kicks in at lower priced orders than orders direct to NZ.
Shipping to NZ from UK using YouShop through NZ Post is considerably cheaper than shipping as quoted from LEGO.
Does auspost.com.au offer a similar service?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I'm honestly not sure. I've never heard of something like that, but it's something I will look into. I'd love to get a US address (if nothing else than to be able to buy things from Amazon and other US sellers that only ship to the US).

On the positive side of things it looks like the new stuff is now in the store. On the negative side of things, the site is still squirrely and broken as hell. At least in the US or North America I can't seem to get beyond any page 1 listing. Any attempts to go to any page 2 or beyond on any search or product results such as looking at a theme or the sale items, loads the top Home page instead.

I'm kind of suspecting that todays issues were not simply a matter of not updating the new product on the site and are rather some collosal date related technical glitch in their back end somewhere. Probably a database glitch or error.

By in Netherlands,

This is so frustrating!
Reading about people who just went to the LEGO store! Good for those of you who can ofcourse.
We don't have one in the Netherlands. Which still dazzles me because we have the most known semi-official LEGO selling websites worldwide.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

How do you think? Will it be possible someday to purchase via shop.lego.com the Town Hall set and the Pet Shop set? Or these sets will be out of stock forever? ;-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I had no problems at all.
I don't have a LEGO shop nearby, so stayed at home reading the comments posted on Brickset about how terrible the LEGO website was.
Funny thing was, I'm sure I've heard all those gripes before...
Now, back to 42000 Street Rod.

By in Netherlands,

Wel, KMVK83, I think that that is the problem. We've got to many LEGO-sellers in the Netherlands to get our own LEGO-store. We've got at least 6 big toy-store-chains with a lot of branches.
So when you're living near the border and have somebody who wants to drive with you to Cologne, or what city the store is located in, you're a lucky man (like me(not always)).

By in United Kingdom,

There are no Lego shops remotely close to my neck of the woods (Colchester) so I think i'll try my nearest Smyth's up at tollgate, they have often in the past had new sets before Lego (and Smyths) even put them up online. It would be better if they did have the star wars or DC sets in-store there to save waiting for the website to get its rear end into gear!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

At least from the Netherlands the nearest shop is only a drive away. For me it's a 4 hour ferry + 2 hour drive to Liverpool or Manchester. Lego only open Brand stores in countries where they can have a number of them. With a large chunk of the Netherlands served by the German stores there's no rush for them to open in the Netherlands. Plus, the good ole Blokker Kartel might have something to do with it...
Anyway, the sales looked exactly as I expected from previous experience; keyrings, fridge magnets and 'Call to check...' so I just didn't bother. I'll probably buy something later in the month to be in the draw for the inside tour. Bit annoying that you have to make your purchase just before payday...

By in United Kingdom,

BIRDS is now available to order on the UK Lego Shop, just placed my order and it looks like it went through fine. :)
@cadwindu1996 - best of luck at Smyth's. I forgot to check if they were open bank holiday and spent yesterday staring at the closed shutters. Nada in the big Sainsbury's or any independent near me.... S13 and new shinies VERY elusive around here!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Gave up on the web site - ordered via phone so I could get the DC Sets with the Birds.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Ordered a couple of sets (those that I was able to put in the cart online) but would have spent a LOT more on others that were "call for availability", which are now marked as sold out.
I am disappointed, I have to admit. I would rather buy directly from Lego, now I have to see if I can get them elsewhere, too bad.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Cheshire_axolotl Yeah the Sainsbury's up near tollgate is often quite poor Lego wise, the entertainer in Colchester town sometimes has stuff, really most stuff I get nowadays, I get from internet or smyths as Argos are very slow these days. I have to commend Smyths though, their staff are very friendly and enthusiastic about Lego, hopefully luck will be with me this afternoon. :)

By in Australia,

What is supposedly happening on the 5th? Some people here are talking about a possible promotion/double VIP points?

I'll wait to order if that's the case.

By in United Kingdom,

At least with lego having nothing in their sale that seems to physically be in stock I can feel pleased at having finally got Bennys Spaceship from Debenhams for £40 in their online sale the other day.

By in Ireland,

Guys just wondering something here... On the Irish version of the site the 2015 DC Super Heroes sets aren't available but I switched to the USA version and I added Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas to my cart and when I switched back to Ireland it was still in my cart also I've two Flower Wagon sets one for free and the other is 1 cent.
So can I like totally go ahead and take advantage of what happened here and get a DC set early and second flower wagon? Or will Lego cop on to what I just did?

By in France,

could it be thet Lego are now so complacent, so arrogant that they realy can't give a fig what the proles think if they're treated with contempt. With almost no competition save some cheap and nasty sets coming out of China, they've got a captive market and virtual monopoly.
We see ever escalating prices, articles in high demand being phased out while pet projects with little or no following being maintained for no logical reason and more and more production being shifted to China or eastern Europe.
Add to that less commitment to customer service and soon those alternatives from China wo'nt look so unappealing after all!

By in United Kingdom,

Amazing isn't it, almost all of us have had to wait for Lego to decide to release sets we have been waiting for for weeks. They are still not up to date. Its now 4pm the day after the release date and some things still don't exist, some are there but no pictures. Brickset had pictures weeks ago. I assume from an official Lego source. Maybe we should get together and offer to run their web site. A lot of us are up at midnight to manually update the site if need be. I did order Birds this morning successfully but Agents are still not there properly, cant See Bionicle and the superheroes sets are not there... I did see a link to nowhere....... How is Hulk Lab smash new.......

By in United States,

I didn't see anyone else comment but are they out of the free AT-DP's? Had one in my cart last night but didn't make purchase and when I logged in this morning it was gone but everything else is there.

I can confirm that 21301 (Birds) are available in Europe. I have just placed an order and everything was just fine. :-)

I would like to raise the question posted by Albus a few posts above: what is it all about with 5th of January? Promotion?

By in United States,

LEGO Shop at Home problems seem to continue. I was browsing last night without any issues, however as of 5 minutes ago (9:15 am PST) it is...

For the AT-DPs in the US, my guess is the "while supplies last" clause has taken effect. Probably out of them.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

There are lots of comments amounting to 'Lego can't take my money quickly enough' here. Website issues happen to everyone, but regardless, Lego ultimately determines when their products will be available.

I doubt this issue is due to lack of planning, resources or intention to deliver a good service. It's likely down to simple human error/oversight. Much like the spelling and grammatical errors in the launch issue of Blocks magazine. We all have bad days.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Re the January 5th promotion @martinb & @Albus - those VIPs who made an early access purchase on 22 November of the Brick Friday weekend are entitled to double points for one day only.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

^^ I'm not sure. Problems with LEGO.com are repetitive. Maybe it's not intended. However, they should do something with their website, because it's not working properly.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

@ turboslot
But is it for all those VIPs who made purchase on 22 November or only for those of them who received an email with this information from LEGO? I made such purchase, but I don't received an email.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Definitely no chance of being able to get to any Lego Store for the fairly huge time and distance I'd need, but every cloud has a silver lining - Wookiee Gunship and Geonosis Troopers are on their way from LEGO.com as we speak. I guess they weren't having any technical hitches at midnight last night when I placed the order.

@yuffie: TLG don't exactly serve those in the South West very well with an Official Lego Store but at least Bath and Bristol are (fairly) close to Cardiff. I'd wager being able to do New Year shopping in either Bournemouth, Salisbury or Exeter at an official Lego Store sometime in the future. Especially with the investment of the new 'HQ' in London.

By in United Kingdom,

The Lego shop online in the UK is down again... Really Lego!!!! Your IT team need the boot...??

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd like to know why LEGO even bothered to advertise the AT-DP promo in the catalog if their supply was so low it didn't even last 1 day!
I had to wait until everything was uploaded to the site to get enough to order $75 to get the Flower Cart and by then the Star Wars promo was gone. Unbelievable!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And still the farce continues it seems - I just happened to get a little extra funds today and wanted to buy a couple more sets, and what's this? LEGO.com down! I've been trying for about 3 hours to get on and I just can't. Silly me for not buying more Bionicle and forgetting to buy a Creator set I really wanted yesterday I guess. Here's hoping it might be back up by midnight.

The DC sets still probably won't be on there by the time it goes back up.

I do wonder what LEGO's response to this is going to be. Anyone that emailed complaining of the atrocity got any answers from them yet?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

LEGO.com site down again for me. Really can't see how a multi billion dollar company (Selling a realitivly small inventory, compared to a lot of other businesses) can not have a better web point of sale system.

Can't say I like buying from the website. Much prefer to buy localy when on sale. I mostly buy the odd hard to find set that may not make it to local stores or has a good chance of selling out.

So yesterday (the 2nd, not the 1st as TLG advertised) I ordered the Birds set and the remainder (to get to the free shipping threshold) was PAB which I'm sure they will get wrong like the last 3 PAB orders.

A big question I have is to do with GST (VAT/Tax). When I order online I pay the same price as in stores which is inclusive of GST. My order is procesed and charged from Denmark, where there is no requirement for TLG to charge/Pay the GST. I note that the invoice has VAT listed at 10% which is the same as GST but I would be really interested in knowing if TLG pass the GST on to the Australian Goverment.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Is anyone having trouble paying for their order, because I get to the end of the checkout and it says they are unable to process credit cards at the moment. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@parsom, I guess it's only if you've received an email.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

When I checked Legoshop @home on January first I was very disappointed. First the website showed nothing except for one Minecraft set on sale. Later when it did show items on sale, though pretty much everything on sale was either 'sold out', or 'call to check availability'. Now this evening (2-01-15) it is pretty much the same but some items are 'will ship in 30 days'.

I plan on ordering something on the 5th, because of the double VIP points I will be receiving then.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, despite everything I went through yesterday, I did get a shipping notice today, so I guess that means things are moving forward.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Thank you S @h for releasing more items that I wanted just after I made an order, pathetic!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Hmm, I'm trying to recall if I did buy something on the Brick Friday weekend... Wasn't Brick Friday the 28th of November, and what promos were offered? I got both the Promo Christmas sets.

I ordered a whole heap of sets for Double VIP points in late October, or was that a separate promotion?

Also, apparently the mini AT-DP doesn't apply for Australia...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Ah, LEGO, the games have begun. Delivery shifted to Tuesday. Last time I ordered from them it was a big lottery when the delivery would arrive. At least the package seems to be on its way, but this part is also less than satisfactory.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I've been trying to call for the last two days and can't get through. Is there a problem with the number I have, or is it busy with everybody who couldn't access the website?

Gravatar
By in South Korea,

At this moment, the mini AT-DP offer is no longer available on the US LEGO.com site. I'm afraid "[The LEGO Group executed the right to cancel or modify this promotion at any time without advance notice.]". Is this the latest free set that sold out unexpectedly quick?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^^ yuffie - I called yesterday because I was after 60026 but it was out of stock. I wasn't surprised as it had been sold out before the 'sale' began. I did get one positive answer when I asked about 79111 before Christmas in 2013 and I got that at the discount price.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

@turboslot - Thank you for the tip!

I'm a little bit disappointed because yesterday afternoon I ordered 20301 (Birds) and something extra just for getting the 40140 set, while 10679 and 40140 were unavailable. Today morning these sets are available... :-(

I know that I can blame only myself, but due to the "epic fail" with the shop.lego.com website two days ago I decided to order the Birds immidiately - especially because it will be a birthday present for my wife. :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was severely disappointed in my local brick & mortar store, the Murray, Utah Fashion Place Mall location. "Due to weather" they didn't have Detective's Office or Slave 1. I was told they didn't have the Technic Arctic Truck either, but called today and they told me the had it last night - just hadn't put it out.

The location is my closest LEGO store, but is a 30+ minute drive from my home, so it's frustrating to make the drive and leave empty handed.

If their January 1 available products were delayed due to weather, why is LEGO not giving themselves at least a 1 week buffer window so that they can have product when they say they'll have product?

Gravatar
By in United States,

On the first, I beat it to my local B&M. I got the one set I was looking for as well as a 30% off 79011 for my wife, a nice PAB assortment in the colors I need for a MOC I'm working on, the AT-DP poly, the Flower Cart Poly, and the LEGO Store Employee minifig! I hung around for a while helping people feel out the Minifigures they were after. From reading the above it looks like I was in the minority, but I had a great day!

Gravatar
By in United States,

you know, if LEGO says "out of stock, will ship in thirty days." and ends up clearing everything up here in the US in less than three days, Then I have to agree with you (to an extent)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Since I apparently missed the period when LEGO.com was actually down in the U.S., I've had a pretty good start to 2015 myself. Ordering Birds and maximizing my free polybags was a first priority, which I was able to do on the morning of the first. Today I went back and looked through the sale sets, decided I wanted the Coast Guard Plane at 20% off (didn't like anything else that hadn't been sold out before Christmas), made up another order big enough to avoid shipping charges, and discovered that if I paid for everything with VIP points I wouldn't be charged *any* sales tax. Free shipping and no sales tax (not to mention five desireable polybags for free) extends the value of VIP points by quite a bit, provided I lump my purchases together. Guess I won't be buying much more until the next double points event, though....

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I hope this isn't a stupide question but i like to buy the Santa Workshop on lego.com because it is om sale. The site said that shipping wil happening on 30th of january. Can i buy this set for the sales prices or wil they cancel my order because the shipping day is a month away?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

@AnnieMiep - you can just buy for the sale price, they will ship later.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Great! Thank you for the information!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

One big mess, once again. I checked the website during the day (1 jan), Detective's Office came available in the late evening so I ordered that, Birds came available on 2 january and bought that one together with the Double-Decker Couch. So, two orders. The Detective's Office changed to 'In Warehouse' today and the Birds has been on 'In Warehouse' since saturday, the DDC shows 'Waiting for new stock'. I called them on friday afternoon and they told me they would probably sent out everything (except the DDC) on monday.

I hope I can start building tomorrow. I also complained about how this all went last week.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The worst part of the whole debacle is that our local Target stores had many of the new sets (except Frozen) days in advance of when they were available via the Lego website. We don't have a local store, so I typically shop at Target or TRU (instore) or via TLG website if there are VIP sales.

I bought the Double Decker Couch from Target on Dec 29. They had many of the new super hero sets, as well as the new Legends of Chima and Minecraft. No sign of Frozen at my Target though.

I purchased four items on Jan 1: Frozen Ice Castle, Heartlake Lighthouse, ARC-170 Starfighter and Toy & Grocery Shop (mostly to get the three free items). I also used VIP dollars towards my purchase. It says it's completed and shipped out, but there are not yet any details in the tracking, so I assume the box hasn't left yet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe this is the place to vent my disappointment. In December, I placed an order and got a free "40107 ice skating & hockey winter set". When the box arrived, the freebie was listed in the shipping checklist but the set was missing. Called LEGO. LEGO rep apologized, said they ran out and that the system shouldn't even have had allotted me one as well as listed it as shipped. LEGO rep said he put a note in my account so next time call them to have a freebie. My opinion is there was one for my order but they gave mine away! "Upset" might be too severe a description but I am definitely VERY disappointed. You know I'll never call. I am not sure what constructs the "next time"; and am I to "beg" for a freebie by reciting the whole story to the next LEGO rep? Doubtful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, it's only January 5th and now the flower cart polybag is no longer available as a promotion. I really feel like LEGO should have estimated the popularity of both the flower cart and AT-DP set. That's pretty bad LEGO. Pretty bad. I was planning to buy much more but now I'm only getting the $4.99 Friends animal sets and the Valentine's Day set. LEGO just lost a much bigger sale from me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hi all. Firstly I am massively disappointed in the way Lego has done this. I still can't find any of the new sets in any shops around London and the Lego stores which I am no where near have few of the new sets. The online shop has only just listed the dc sets today and half the star wars sets are out of stock. Massive shambles.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Want to confirm what @norwegiagirl already posted - spoke with LEGO customer service about this - the Flower Cart polybag has been sold out in the US since the weekend, and so has the StarWars polybag. Only item still available is the Friends polybag - free with any LEGO Friends purchase. A bit disappointing to say the least.
