Best pictures yet of Deep Sea Explorers sets
Posted by Huw,
The German toy fair is done and dusted now and plenty of images have been posted in various places. You may have noticed that there were hardly any of licensed sets, though. This was because LEGO did not allow photographs of them to be taken so we'll have to wait until the NY toy fair in a couple of weeks to see pictures of them.
Several sites took videos around the LEGO stand including Spieletest.at and it is from one of their videos that these stills of the Deep Sea Explorers boxes have been extracted by Sinthoras.
They give us our best look yet at the sets and I think you'll agree that they look superb.

I like the idea of 60095 but the below-sealevel is a bit difficult to recreate/simulate. I mean, you can only lower something (the caged diver) from the vessel if you lift the ship up in the air... Probably kids won't see this as a problem though.
Other than that I feel like if you own 60095, there's no need to buy the smallest three sets; they are just more of the same.
Helicopter set looks the weakest to me but guess they must sell well given how many we get. Small sets not that great unless you are after a red octopuss. The starter set is great again loving these starter sets although this is the only one not to have 4 figs it is still really nice. Sub looks the must buy set to me as for an underwater line it is the only set with a big underwater build for our drivers to use. Big set looks good too but it comes down to how much you like these big one part boats. I think they should have done away with the helicopter and give us an underwater base in the same price range. Also why are the builds blue and yellow and the figs black and red? Will be getting the 3 smaller sets.
Do some of the sets have criminals? Next year we will get Aqua Police.
Sets look nice but the boat looks very large. I wish there were smaller boats too. But overall very nice looking.
These sets really kinda remind me of the Aqua Raiders sets of 2007, they all look pretty cool, I may get a few of the smaller sets just to compare them to the Aqua Raiders sets I own from 2007!
Had that sunken ship been bigger And it would include a bigger submarine then yeah I would have been saving my pennies for that one.
I'm usually all about underwater sets, but these leave me pretty cold, to be honest. I'll probably skip 'em, particularly when all the licensed sets are so much more awesome.
^ And expensive...
btw watch the video for a quick look at space too, the sharks in that video some have eye prints and some dont hope they are the same in all the sets.
Has anyone already seen the big shark from Ultra Agents? I believe even a minifigure fits in its mouth.

also in this video they review 70173: Ultra Agents Ocean HQ and evil base is also to be seen.
Its the same mold from a few years ago, would have like to see it in the city sets but maybe Lego think its too big but I think its very cool and I might have to pick that set up just for that robot shark.
I was really hoping for something like http://brickset.com/sets/6441-1/Deep-Sea-Refuge, however these still look fine.
^ yes an underwater base is what's missing.
Must have!
Too much like Aqua Raiders for me...
@someguy827
Perhaps there will be a LEGO exclusive set we don't know about yet. Like with Arctic theme there was Arctic Supply Plane or Chima and Vultrix's Sky Scavenger.
AWESOMENESS!! I love all of them except the helicopter...
That has got to be the cheapest way ever to get an octopus. :P
These remind me so much (in a good way) of the town sea explorers sets , right down to they have white sharks.
Love the DSEV. The Helicopter looks nice too...
I love the looks and realism of these sets!
Btw, is this the first time we get a U-shaped floating boat piece?
@Exetrius: Could be, but I can't say ATM.
I wish the designs were more similar to the Divers sets. I still miss the Sting Ray Explorer.
@Nikolaevna: That did looked good, didn't it? :-(
@Missing Brick: Building is the fun of LEGO, and you buy to build, but I understand what you are saying. All the same, you do need large parts sometimes, or the price would be, well... let's not go to that particular area! I'll just say that wallets will be severely punished! ;-)
Is it just me or is there something wrong with the name 'Deep Sea Helicopter'?
Not sure what to make of this theme just yet.
I'll definitely get the ship and sub - sub cause I like the set , but ship cause it includes all three sharks in new type - regular , white and saw! Plus it includes another of the regular. All it doesn't have as far as new type sharks go is the black one from the superheroes set.
I think with the "Deep-sea Helicopter" TLG ran up against it's own rules. Built a cool Chinook, couldn't have it modern military, didn't know where to stick it, so dumped it in this theme. There are better choppers for maritime use though.
This is the first time I love City so much!!
I wonder if they will do any polybags for this theme?
@ Sinthoras
My fingers are crossed.
Does it bother anyone else that there isn't a large submarine?
@ picknicbasketsam.
Actually, Kraken Attakin' is the cheapest in a few years- they were even cheaper during Mission Deep Sea.
Definitely gonna have to pick that Helicopter up!
Does anyone know if the boat in set 60095 floats or not? I can't read the fine print in the photo.
It looks to be the same hollow floating hulls that many current ships use. The one on the sea floor probably doesn't though.
Actually the chopper is based on a police one from a few years back. That one was based on Alien Conquest series 2 that was never released.
@hk-50-09
That's what I though Except that the back of the hull looks open.
The open back is to put the mini sub and cage in the ship. They most likely have a little wall or end part there so it doesn't sink.
I really like the helicopter but it looks too much like 4439 IMO. Also think they did a really good job with the submarines.
Not as charming as AquaRaiders(2007) but really nice. Specially the three smallest sets.
BUT wouldnt it make more sence with some large aquascapes/treasure/caves instead of a... HELICOPTER? Seriously? If LEGO just need to make money-earning-sets, make a Chima-policestation!
I like the deep sea scavenger set the most as I have so many sweet ideas on how it will fit in my universe but the sub-theme really resembles aqua raiders
I think the one downfall for divers, or deep seas sets in general, is the '3D aspect' of it. That is, ship on the surface and rest of set 'under water'. That aside, I have grown to really like the city divers type sets. I now wish I had not sold the one set I got after my dark ages 6441 Deep Reef Refuge, now those sets are a bit pricey and sadly does not appear like there will be one like that one, the closest being the 60095 . This along with Arctic I initially thought 'meh' but after seeing them they appear pretty thought out, and they seem to be attracting more of my attention than the upcoming Pirate line.
