First SDCC 2015 Exclusive Announced

Posted by ,

It's that time of year again... With San Diego Comic Con due to take place in a few weeks time (9th - 12th July), chuckp in the forum has found an article from The Hollywood Reporter containing details of the first 2015 SDCC Exclusive set. Priced at USD $39.99, Throne of Ultron (from the Marvel movie Avengers: Age of Ultron) contains 203-pieces and four minifigures. In addition to the sets available for purchase and the display of the Stormtrooper Constraction set, LEGO is reported to be also releasing event exclusive minifigures, but there's no word on what those are yet. We will bring you more information as it becomes available in the lead-up to the convention.

Looks cool but I will pass, not attending SDCC and not about to buy it from third party.

i will be attending sdcc this year BUT the line for the lego exclusives usually caps within 10 minutes of the door opening (it can take well over a hour to get in the entrance)... due to the vendors and workers being able to get in line early...

Nice looking set. Are the mini figures exclusive or are they the same as the ones in the retail sets.

By in United States,

It looks like the sentries are a light instead of a dark grey, like the ones in the set. I'd love to have this, I loved the movie, and you get 3 of the sentries, but it'll just be too expensive in the after market.

An Ultron minifig that actually looks like Ultron!

i don't like how they did not put an exclusive minifig in it

Unusually for a SDCC set, I'm very okay with not being able to get this one. Kind of a cute idea for Age of Ultron completists, but it doesn't have that exclusivity "wow" factor.

I think it's a pretty cool looking set.

I wouldn't complain about paying $40 for it due to the limited run...you could easily double that money if you didn't like it; I'm just glad that it's non-essential because nothing makes me madder than awesome SDCC exclusives that I'll never own!

By in Switzerland,

It's a pretty cool looking set. A few figs, possibly the same as existing or slightly alternate colors but nothing major. Great if you can get it, but nothing you would HAVE to hunt down. It's not like they're all unique pieces in the set.

This looks like a nice set, wish it wasn't exclusive though!

You know i'm tired of this.. it's no fair to the Europeans.. If you want exclusives like these the only way is buying them at overpriced prices -_-

I love how Lego is doing exclusive builds for SDCC and Celebration.

If you don't want to pay Ebay and Bricklink prices, you can part the set out and order the pieces for it. Last year, Rocket was in a ploybag, Batman and Robin were in the Juniors set, and both Ghosts released had figure in sets.

Personally I refer this to the super rare, exclusive figures! I have build most of the sets from the past few years from Bricklink. The Slave 1, Landspeeder, Jek-14's, Sith Infiltrator, and the 3 above. Think I made all 7 for $50 without figures. But, I already had the figure, since I had already bought the set they were in!!

Keep doing this Lego!! Great for people who can't attend or don't want to scalpers. Thanks!!

Lego needs to stick to doing this instead of exclusive minifigs. This may be an exclusive set, but it doesn't feature anything special that's unobtainable by the rest of the world. You can easily bricklink those parts and minifigs if you really wanted the set. But with exclusive figs... ugh, all it does is torture 99.99% of Lego fans by dangling something cool in front of our faces that we can't have. It took a ridiculous 3 1/2 years after Green Lantern was an exclusive at SDCC before he finally showed up in a retail set. Most other SDCC exclusives aren't even as lucky as that. So please Lego, keep releasing sets like this one at SDCC! It's infinitely better than exclusive minifigs!

Thought it looked a great little set until i saw the words 'SDCC exclusive' ,interest gone now.

If they would stop making the really good sets exclusives that would be great.

Am I correct in saying that this will be relatively easy for people (who will not be attending Comic Con) to build. As far as I can tell the minifigs can be made up of parts available elsewhere. Or are they exclusive?

Update:
Have already managed to produce 42% of this set in LDD. The tough bits are the steps to and from and including the "Throne". Any help will be greatly received and I will email any supporters a copy of the lxf file once completed after checking the availability of parts as expect this is where the "exclusive" element of the set comes into play.

I assume the steps in reddish brown going up to the throne are the 1x2 rail plate. ( http://brickset.com/parts/design-32028 )

I'm unsure on how to add a picture or anything, if it is possible.

The back of the throne is comprised of vines in brown: http://brickset.com/parts/4655210
and these pieces in brown : http://brickset.com/parts/6008484
are connected to them creating the arm rests. It seems like an illegal connection to me, but maybe there is enough friction to keep it in place.
The steps maybe be made of a tile and some jumpers. Simple.

Looks super cool. With better pictures though you can just build it. That Ultron already exists. This is cool. I just hope when I go to Comic Con(Crossing my fingers for next year) they do something insane cool.

LXF version now complete. LEGO should probably give me and my supporters jobs.

By in United States,

So, when can we expect to get our copies of the instructions emailed CCarmichael? :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

We fans should be able to build this ourselves, although the Ultron Sentries look to be silver in this set, which might make things slightly difficult for the AoU completists.

legocity2713,
contact me and send your email address and a copy of the lxf will be sent to you. A contact of mine is reviewing it at the moment and helping me iron out any mistakes.
