Ghostbusters Level Pack

Ghostbusters Level Pack

©2016 LEGO Group

Three Ghostbusters packs for Dimensions have been announced today by Warner Bros. at Gamescom in Cologne.

The level pack (71228) contains a Peter Venkman minifig, a micro Ecto-1 and a Ghost Trap. The fun packs (71233, 71241) contain a slimer, a slimer shooter, Stay Puft and Terror Dog.

These continue the trend of reusing licenses acquired by Ideas for the forthcoming toys-to-life game. I guess it's only a matter of time before we see The Big Bang Theory packs...

Oh my goodness, I must have Stay Puft and Slimer! Was hoping to avoid getting sucked into Dimensions, but I deffo want these!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

1 starter pack @ £85 = £85
27 fun packs @ £15 = £405
5 level packs @ £28 = £140
4 team packs @ £28 = £112

Total: £742

Probably best not to get sucked into it :)

By in United Kingdom,

Well, those fun packs are clearly "must haves", aren't they? >.<

Likewise, I'm not wanting to get sucked in, but they're just lovely.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Stay Puft minifig <3 <3
And that micro ecto-1 is cute too, i wonder if it will have back wheels..

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I have seen the second Ghostbusters numerous times, but still haven't seen the first one. Despite this I'm definitely going to have to buy the Slimer and Stay Puft packs to go along with the car.

Even though I'm not planning on buying the game I estimate I'm still going to spend £132 just buying packs for minifigs! Grrr LEGO...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can see lots of people buying these without any desire to play the game. I need the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Slimer to go with my Ecto-1!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And is that a brand new Peter Venkman hairpiece?

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ Looks to be a re-color of the hairpiece for Capaldi's Doctor.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

^The hair piece is the same as the one that will appear in the Doctor Who level pack, except in this it is brown, not grey.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

So what's the idea behind the packs? Fun packs just contain minifigs and Level packs some form of game plus minifigs? Though I would buy the Ghostbusters and Simpsons fun packs, I'm just not sue if it's worth getting the level packs for BOTF and DW. I don't play video games, so I guess I could sell the level pack minus minifig online.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

That car is awesome. There's nothing else for it, I'm going to have to sell off another kidney. We're all born with three, right?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@Huw - But fortunately I'm not a completionist! So I will pick and choose only those sets with exclusive minifigs or super-cool mini-models that I can't recreate myself.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

That Stay Puft fig. Holy heck.

I'll just toddle off and get a bank loan.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So it could cost like $1,000 a year to get the full game? This is getting completely out of control. GameStop will have to open stores that just sell useless toys that go with video games.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It would be great if they made a few Dimensions sets, like normal sets for the new figures to go in, an OZ set a Ghostbusters set and a BTTF set as well as another doctor who set.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I don't think that it will be profitable to sell of the rest of the set and keep the minifigure. I think that on the secondary market, the minifigures will be nearly the entire cost of the set (unless they are not exclusive, like with some ninjago packs). I'm afraid that buying the whole sets will be the cheapest option (or won't be that much cheaper than the full set).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also, this Venkman minifig appears to have the shoulder patches, whereas the previous GB figs don't....

Gravatar
By in United States,

Stay Puft and Slimer will be must-haves for me to go with the Ideas Ecto-1. As someone not interested in the Dimensions video game, I definitely see these packs as Lego Collectible Minifigures ver. 2.0!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Not a huge fan of the Slimer figure. Too cartoony and doesn't really look enough like the film version. Eyes aren't quite beady enough, eyebrows are a little excessive, and there aren't any wrinkles in sight (printed, nor on the mould).

Gravatar
By in United States,

As cool as the Wicked Witch of the West minifig is I couldn't see myself buying a fun pack just for a minifig. Stay Puft blows that theory out of the water!

And I agree, I doubt it will be much cheaper to buy that minifig on the aftermarket rather than just trooping down to Target or wherever.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I will probably get the Stay Puff full price but the rest of these I expect to see marked down to clearance soon enough. The other toys to life items are frequently on clearance.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

not so excited about the Dimensions sets, but i'm definitely interested in Marshmallow Man. Not sure why people must get all the packs since most of the minifigs can be found elsewhere.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ Clone: Nope, the Dimensions packs use the usual minifigs, it's only their exclusive stands that you need for the game.

These packs don't look amazing to me, probably because I'm not a Ghostbusters fan, but I like the figs. Might buy them, might not. If I do, at least I'll get a few parts. And if I buy them at all, it'll only be when they're discounted.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'd love the Mr Staypuff but £15 for the pack just for a figure is a bit much I hope I can catch them in a sale or Argos 3for2 deal some time that and the slime monster would look great with my Ecto car and the haunted mansion

Gravatar
By in United States,

Stay Puft and Slimer are must haves for me. Both of those figures look great! I don't have any interest in the game though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ It will be interesting to see if these sets fall under the same type of sales like other LEGO. Will these be in the LEGO aisle or in the video game aisle? Will they be included as part of regular retailer LEGO BOGO sales and discounts, or will they follow the trends of sales on Skylanders, Infinity, and Amiibo?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I just looked at the prices for this game. They must be joking. $100 for the game + $30 for each level? What do the "team pack" and "fun pack" even do?

I like some of the figures but unless I find these at deep discount, there is no way I'd pay that much for a lego figure or a video game.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It is interesting to see that IDEAS sets keep showing up as sets and Dimensions packs, especially since IDEAS sets tend to be in the mid to upper price range. If WALL-E turns out to cost the $50 that a recent TRU shelf tag would suggest, I might end up waiting for the WALL-E Dimensions set (With mini-Axxiom?), even though I don't even own a console and have little intention to buy the Dimensions game.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^ I may have high doubts about Wall-E because 2 words: Disney Infinity

Gravatar
By in United States,

Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars will never appear in Lego Dimensions

Gravatar
By in Germany,

After the game loses steam, these will become cheaper and will end up on the bargain table.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are brilliant, but wow--that's the first look I got at the prices!! I assumed all these little packs would range between $5-$15. I never planned to get the game and just wanted the Portal pack and Benny pack for the figures, but guess I'll have to reconsider.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I will definitely buy the Slimer and Stay Puft packs. Too excellent not to own. I think I will buy so many of these great packs (the Doctor Who ones are instant buys for me as well) that I will eventually buy the game (perhaps used) and get more utility out of my purchases.

Gravatar
By in United States,

glad every pack not coming out at the same time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm sure there will be a resale market for the stands only. I know, personally, I want to just get the stands, not the rest of the bricks.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is turning into the most expensive video game ever.

Gravatar
By in Greece,

oh my god!!! They are all soooo cute!!! Especially mini ecto and fun packs... Sadly prices are that high

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm intrigued by the pricing of these. Lego sets tend to be fairly firmly priced in most retailers, but video games tend to have high RRPs and then rapidly plunge in price.

The Lego RRPs seem pretty high compared to Skylanders, and to a lesser extent Disney Infinity. So unless it's wildly successful, I'd bed that these will end up being much more widely discounted than regular Lego.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I might get this one and not the actual game LOL

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just out of curiosity, when do the Ghostbusters fun packs come out?

Gravatar
By in United States,

That Stay Puft figure looks glorius. Will probably get the game but only a handful of the packs, since it's so pricey.

Gravatar
By in United States,

On an unrelated note, I just received an email from Lego notifying me that I was a provisional Bat pod winner. I guess those 30 emails paid off :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@dcswo We were talking about Ghostbusters....

Gravatar
By in Australia,

So these minifigures do come off the game stands? If so, damnit!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I think this will be one of the rare games that will become more expensive over time, especially given comments above from people getting the packs with no intention of playing the game. Hopefully some people will buy for just the figures and on-sell the game discs so gamers can get access to all the levels without it getting too silly.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Stay Puft is an essential purchase! Is it possible to play the game without opening the package? Does the base/disc with the identifying chip have to be in intimate contact with the Dimensions portal base? Anyone played the Disney version?

Gravatar
By in United States,

That's why I started my post with "on an unrelated note"

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Hmm I was initially intrigued by the idea of this game, since I love Lego and also have a bunch of amiibo, but as time goes on all that seems to be coming is various licensed material which doesn't interest me as much... I will remain hesitantly curious! That said, the mini Ecto1 is great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Buying Stay Puft, could care less about playing the actual game. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Gravatar
By in Lao People's Democratic Republic,

Only buy starter pack, the game not 100% perfect?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Based on the comments here...it sounds like there WILL be a market for the stands without the figs/models. Not sure how the pricing would shake out....but there are enough people here saying they just want the figs and sell the stands and people saying they would buy the stands without the figs...

As for me, I'll probably buy the sets, separate the bases, and just use the bases themselves with the game, and display (or something else) the figs. Such as, a Vignette/Micro-scale building build of Stay-Puft wrecking a town, to scale with the mini-fig. :) I hope the bases have printed names on them to identify who they are...

As for the comment about Marvel/Star Wars/Pixar...yes, right now, that's a conflict-of-interest for Disney. But keep two things in mind:
- I jumped in on Disney Infinity with Marvel, and was not impressed with the game. My kids played it for a week, and gave up on it. Meanwhile, they still can't put Jurassic World down, and I consider that not one of the best LEGO games by TT Games. So if Infinity 3.0 is also not that great...Disney may give up on it, and that opens the door for expanding the partnership that already exists with the LEGO Star Wars and Marvel games.
- The Nintendo and the makers of Skylanders saw an opportunity, and there are some Amiibos that can be used in the next Skylanders version. Disney may realize that they can make money either way, especially if Dimensions takes off like mad...and may decide to throw us a bone.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The thirst is real. They'd better not retire the packs too quickly, I'm gonna need to space these purchases out over a few months if I'm going to be able to budget for them all.

And they'd better do better than Nintendo at having enough available! None of this "we only got 5 of that one for the whole of Australia" rubbish we saw with the first waves of Amiibo!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Aww yeah! That about sums it up.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

@ rawbob, when I was younger and used to play Skylanders I didn't always open the packs and the portal still scanned the base. However I have no idea if the portal for Dimensions will be able to sense it or not.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I can see these dimensions packs sending me broke and I dont even own a console that can run the game.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am in the group that only wants some of the figures or mini builds and have no desire for the base/game. So I'd gladly sell to others who need only the base (I'd keep it fair). I can imagine the figures going for more than the bases on their own.

Ghostbusters are must haves (especially since I'm building the HQ). And a few of the other licensed ones will be purchased, but I don't know to wait or buy them immediately.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Can not explain the genuine anger I feel about the pricing of these packs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow! These look great. Definitely want Stay-puft and Slimer. Dang, I still need to buy the Ecto-1 Ideas set; hope it will be around for a while.

I think it'd be awesome if Disney double-dipped with both Dimensions and Infinity, but that probably won't happen, especially with the next iteration coming out with Star Wars characters. They'll want to capture as many customers for that as possible.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Disney Infinity is actually what saved Disney's video game department and they have no plans to end it right now.

Gravatar
By in United States,

they used to have indiana jones lego it would be intresting to see him as a fun pack along with a harry potter character

Gravatar
By in United States,

And the only things I will be buying is the starter pack, Doctor Who level pack, Ninjago team pack, and Nya And Legolas fun packs because while it is tempting to buy a lot of them I don't have much money. Plus I am really angry at the prices. Because you might as well buy Jay's electromech instead of a fun pack.
