As we speculated the other day this year's Toys R Us Bricktober sets are indeed more mini-modular buildings in the same style as last year's. The four sets, 40141-40144, build a bakery, hotel, train station and Toys R Us store, and all look pretty cool.

By in Sweden,

So cool, and will go so nicely with last years set. Hope they continue with these for years :)

By in United Kingdom,

If only TRUs in Europe offered them...

Gravatar
By in United States,

They do look cool! I found these late last year. I'm totally getting all four.

By in United States,

It's pretty odd that we're getting so many new buildings when my ToysR'Us still has dozens of Fire Stations left.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That's one huge croissant on the bakery!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm hoping my Toys R Us is willing to just sell them to me at retail.

I only got the town hall last year. I'd like to get the other three.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've seen lots of last year's sets still at my local TRUs, and they're still the full $20. If these were $10 sets, I might consider buying them. $20, hell no.

By in United States,

Funny how all the others are nicely detailed, and the TRU model is pretty much just a big box...

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Huw, they did offer them in Norway... let me know if you're missing a set :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thank you, at the moment I'm missing all four :)

By in Poland,

I will have a look in Berlin, if it will come there. But I suspect it will be another USA only thing.

The hotel one looks awesome :-)

By in United Kingdom,

Why does the UK not get cool things like this! :( Bricklink time I fear...

By in United States,

I don't see the appeal. I think they are just a weird scale so that's why I don't like them. Too big for micropolis, too small for official Mini Modular. Neat ideas and decent color schemes though.

My TRU sold out of all of them on the first day this last year. I won't even bother this year. I think the train station looks the best out of all of them though.

By in Singapore,

Last Year's sets were 6 studs wide. These look like they are 10 studs wide for 2 sets and 8 studs wide for the other 2. If last year's were $19.90 I hope these won't be more. The Mini modulars are 8 studs wide. They are really messing with us. i was hoping I could join the lot together but it seems unlikely

Interesting. The funny thing is one of the TRUs near me has all of last years but one. If they were not 20 USD each (which is not a horrible price for these) I would think about getting last years and this years.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm in New York in early October, hopefully that'll overlap with at least two weeks' worth of sets.
Any idea what the purchase criteria is? Minimum spend? Lego purchase?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Never seen this before, even the old ones....Did/will these available in UK Toy r us stores?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@BooTheMightyHamster... Last year they were buy $75 worth of LEGO and you got a Bricktober set free. I haven't heard about this year yet though, although I can't imagine it's more than last year. I miss the times where it was spend $35 for the freebie.

Gravatar
By in United States,

You can buy them for $19.99 without having to purchase anything.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The stores here only had them as a gwp last year and refused to sell them individually. I tried at 3-4 stores. I would buy them for $20 each but I won't pay TRU markup to get them.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

will Canada TRU get these?

I hope!

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are cute, but aren't they always a gift with purchase attached to some crazy amount like $75 each week or something?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I LOVE the sets from last year and these look even better. I am super disappointed that the instructions aren't listed on the Lego database though. Last year I was able to snag the instructions from the database and build the pizzeria that I missed in store (although it looks a bit more challenging to build from personal stock this year due to the stickered elements).

Either way, will definitely be making an attempt to pick these up!

Gravatar
By in United States,

These will be a gift with purchase of $75 or more of Lego building sets. Excludes Lego Dimensions. I am sure you could purchase these for $19.99 if the management is willing to override the register prompts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

There is no register prompt. The items ring up at $19.99. Nothing to override.

They would be nice to have, but I don't see it as worth it for 20$ a piece. Don't get me wrong they are nice mini modulars, it is not something I am in need of. I didn't jump on last years sets just because of the price. I'll invest 80$ into something else.

By in Australia,

If only Toys R Us here in Australia would sell them to me without the need to spend a fortune on other LEGO. Last year the only way to get these was to buy some big amount of LEGO then you get only ONE free as a bonus. So if you want all 4 you have to spend hundreds of dollars on other LEGO.

By in Canada,

The lady at my TRU reminded me the other day about all the LEGO awesomeness coming in October. Unfortunately It's a couple hours away so I wont be there every week. These don't really excite me that much but the train station is my favorite if I had to chose one. in Canada they'll probably sell for 30$ which is beyond insanity IMO.

By in United States,

Last years were not hard to get. I bought all 4 each week they came out without having to have any other qualifying purchase. Matter of fact, a few are still on the shelves at my local TRU. I think these new ones are pretty cool, but I too think they are over priced.

And for those wondering, they are not the same mini scale as the mini modular 10230.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are not mini modulars so why is everyone calling them as such??? The scaling of these buildings are way off.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Had the original mini modular set been better priced I might have gotten one. Then I'd be more motivated to get the TRU exclusives. I could never pull the trigger because I kept telling myself that it could be a good amount of money (roughly half the cost) I could put towards a real modular building. Something I would enjoy more by far. Same goes for the TRU sets.

By in United States,

Perhaps a dumb question, but last year, did they offer these for $19.99 on the TRU website? I have a TRU here, but it's an hour away; would love to be able to order these online. Just wish they were closer to $9.99 or $14.99, but TRU always charges more than LEGO.com does for their Lego sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My local TRU still has ones from last year on clearance and individual sale. ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

My TRUs is selling them for 15$.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I still can't understand why they call it "Bricktober". Surely "Blocktober" is a better portmanteau?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wake me up when they make a Tower Records version of these. Until then no thanks.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

A friend of mine is actually in New York
Is tru selling them there?
Thanks for an quick reply.

By in United States,

The hotel (40141) was available today in two Raleigh (NC) area TRU's. One store required the purchase of 75US LEGO to receive a free hotel while the other store allowed me to buy one for $20. It really depends on the clerk at the register. The hotel looks wonderful from the box; will build it tomorrow. I also snagged a 40142 train station in a damaged box lying among the other LEGO. Both of these sets are ten studs wide. They should blend well with the 2014 sets. Just wish they were not so expensive, like all LEGO these days.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Here in Singapore every 10 days or so throughout the month of October you can get one of the sets as gift with purchase on any LEGO spend of $100 SGD and above. There were already a few people lining up this morning and while I'm not sure how much stock they have, I don't think the first set (hotel) will last very long. I secured one and it's looking rather neat. Next stop, the train station on 12 October.
