Here is the Rio 2016 Paralympic mascot

Posted by ,

Yesterday we reported that LEGO is producing kits of the Rio 2016 Olympic games mascots. Now Brickset user Cambui has published an image of the Paralympic one, Tom, on a Brazilian website.

As he notes in the article, and several of you have commented, they look terrible with grey ball joints. Correctly coloured ones would turn them from BOLOCS models to pretty neat sets.

They are said to be available from May next year.

Really, really, really...not good.

Personally, I think these are quite adorable, and I don't think the gray joints hurt their appearance too much at all.

However, the articulation of both sets would be much improved if the entire limbs were reversed so they have a ball on each of their shoulders and hips and a ball cup on each of their wrists and ankles rather than the other way around! As it is they can't really angle bend their legs forward or backward.

Still, they're a great reminder of how these joint pieces have revolutionized building, and I look forward to seeing more uses of them in the future!

Reminds me of Mr. Meeseeks from Rick and Morty.

If anyone else on here watches that, haha

What's with the uneven amount of clips per hand?

^ A part of me wants to say 'it's PARAlympics!' but that doesn't sound quite right...

What the... good lord, that looks even worse than the other one!

I didn't think it could possibly look worse than the last one.

I was wrong.

Why can't they just color the dang ball-joints?

Is this for real? Or just a wind up.

BOLOCS. How apt.

@MOCDoc: each plastic color has slightly different properties, such as hardness and flexibility, so each mold will need to be slightly redesigned so the joints move in the correct manner.

@CM4Sci My thought exactly the moment I saw the picture. What a great show. Would be cool to have Mr. Meeseeks in Lego. This mascot though...
