Mixels: new tribes for 2016

Posted by ,

The recent batch of 2016 images found on the LEGO server has provided pictures for series 7 and 8 Mixels.

We know the names and numbers of series 7 so you will find their pictures in the database. After some repetition of tribes in 2015 it's good to see that this series features three new ones. The tribe names are not known but as you can see from the pictures one is based on law enforcement, one on medieval/castles, and one on musical instruments.

Series eight, pictured after the break, looks to be equally inventive, with tribes based on firefighting, pirates and dentistry, of all things!

Are you still excited by Mixels or has the novelty worn off now?

I'm still into it. ;D
They're good for playing with. Doing something fun and creative without doing something necessarily great. No pressure monster making with a manageable selection of parts.

By in United Kingdom,

I have mixed feelings about Mixels. Some of them look fantastic but others are rather dull, particularly a few of those from series five in my opinion. Nevertheless, they are undoubtedly brilliant parts packs and series eight seems to be the best yet! The new tooth element looks particularly useful for architectural detailing.

I liked the Mixels that came out this year ...

... but fire-fighting, pirates and dentistry? Not so sure about next year's batch.

By in Poland,

I'm no mixels fan. However, tooth and pirate are awesome.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't like the look of most of series 7 but 8 looks much better and lots of fun.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think that they are improving and coming out with more solid tribes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So that's half of series 7 on the want list & 2 or 3 from series 8 just from the first glimpse.
I think it's safe to say these are still going well.

By in Canada,

I think the series 8 tribe is a general medical, not dentistry. The tooth shaped guy on the right is definitely dentistry themed, but looking at the guy in the middle, his head is a surgical light and he's holding a defibrillator.

These Mixels appear to be based off the Mixels of http://mixels.wikia.com/wiki/Mixopolis , a city of Mixels. This would explain the "career" look of some of the tribes. This is the fist time Mixels have had a true connection with the Cartoon Network show.

This is just my guess. Nothing confirmed yet.

By in Australia,

Has nobody yet made the joke that police and fire are so prevalent, as Lego themes, that now even the Mixels are getting caught up in them? :)

By in United Kingdom,

I'm not always keen on the characters but they are a fantastic source of parts, especially if you get them for 75p in Tesco reduced.

By in France,

lol, funniest tribes so far

By in United States,

So we've got Vomit-man, Disney's Planes, and Snakes-and-Ladders for the fire crew. Captain Shark, Skull Pirate (new bionicle villain?), and Giant Enemy Crab as Pirates. Doctor Trypanophobia, Box, and the Mighty Tooth as medical stuff. Fascinating.

I play drums myself, so I'm totally getting the drum set. Probably pass on the rest though.

By in Sweden,

Wow, someone had a lot of fun here. These are positively wacky! I thought the last few rounds got a bit boring (with exceptions of course), but these are something else. I don't like them all, but they are certainly creative.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love how ridiculously crazy these new ones are looking. XD

By in United States,

I like them even better now that they've been moving away from elements and towards professions and miscellany. I particularly love the drum set, the horn player, the fire hydrant, the treasure chest crab, and the tooth.

Pirate MIXELS!!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

YES!! And I thought that they were on their way considering the rehashes of existing tribes this year.

My four year old and I have a blast building and mixing these up.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I like them, especially hydrant guy and treasure chest/crab. :)

Gravatar
By in Japan,

Maybe the best yet. Love the hydrant and pirate. The dental characters are just the way my anxiety makes dental visits seem to me.

I'm pretty positive I'm seeing another brand new piece on Series 7 Camillot: a dark stone gray "1x2 plate with small ball on end" -- the "opposite" of http://brickset.com/parts/6043639 . It also might appear on Series 7 Kruffs, Series 8 "Fire Plane Mixel", and Series 8 "Skull Pirate Mixel".
If it turns out my suspicions are true, this should be a very useful piece -- basically a http://brickset.com/parts/6039482 without the cup in the way when you don't need it.

Also, I absolutely love the new tooth pieces.

Love these designs! So brilliant and creative. At the same time, I've never really been a Mixels collector and don't expect to start next year. The only Mixel I have personally is Hoogi, who was a Christmas present.

I'm still really into Mixels... they're inexpensive as a stress-reliever, which is what I use them for. Had a rough day at work? Pop open a mixel, put that bad boy together. Tough week? There's a whole tribe. They're great fun. I love the new tribes for 7 and 8, they're inventive and hilarious. Better than another booger-tribe rehash.

@ willobee498

Isn't it a dentist's chair?

Gravatar
By in United States,

That treasure chest crab is honestly one of my new favorite mixels of all time.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

i don't know if it's really dentistry.. when i first saw them , i tought general "surgical" or "medical" theme, with the first holding a syringe, the second one something that could be a pair of defibrillator plates, and the third most probably a dentist

Gravatar
By in Italy,

BTW love those new half round, half squared 1x1 tiles :)

Gravatar
By in Romania,

Ha, they're getting more creative. Tapsy looks fun.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dentistry??? I love it! My kind of humor!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good job, at least they're actually new tribes, the repetitions were pretty pathetic. Why did they even wait to release these? Not only was repeating tribes a sorry move, but the designs were getting reused, too. All of these are distinct in some way, just like you would expect.

That said, mixels was a "good on paper, not in practice" theme. I don't expect to see more of the mixels after they've run their planned course.

By in Sweden,

Even thought I haven't bought any myself, I do appreciate that they've brought a lot of parts in new colours into the broader LEGO (moc) universe, so in that regard I hope they keep on going. More parts in more colours is always a good thing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Finally they're doing something different and with the Mixels.
They're starting to look interesting again!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ahahaha! This is so weird but it's so weird it's crossed the line into brilliant! :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

The novelty has definitely worn off for me. I'll still buy the sets for the awesome mini-ball joints, though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They've always only been parts packs for me, when reduced to £1 or under.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I think they just get more and more imaginative - the peg leg is a must buy !

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well I walked into a toy shop a couple of weekends ago and bought all 9 of the latest wave so I guess I'm still enjoying them! I tend to put them together as a break from sorting or buy them for a certain part but my kids like them too as both builds and for play. They are barely more expensive than a CMF and tend towards cool parts and colours too. What's not to like?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Series 1 and 2 were brilliant. But they are looking worse as each series passes. Not so sure I will be getting the 2016 ones judging by the look of them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not sure about season 7, but season 8 looks cool! Love the crab!
