More Nexo Knights news
Posted by TheBrickPal,
The next new 'big bang' IP from LEGO, Nexo Knights, will be launching early next year. For the first news of the theme since New York Comic Con, we have for you 70317 The Fortrex box art from The Toy Insider. Here is a set description as well:
"The Fortrex is a huge two-in-one rolling castle with more than 1100 pieces. Kids can launch the Knight Cycle and Aero-Striker V1 to engage the Ash Attacker and Scurriers! Fold out the walls to reveal the hi-tech HQ and get your brief from Merlok 2.0, and plan your next daring mission at the round table to stop Jestro taking the Book of Evil! The set includes five scannable shields for NEXO Powers: Ground Power, Super Human Speed, Hawk Holler, Chicken Power and Charging Attack."
I know that a lot of "classic Castle" fans already dislike this theme, but I (and hopefully others) sure am looking forward to it!

I'm looking forward to this theme, thinking of picking up this and Jestro's Evil Mobile as soon as I can in January.
Not sure I'll get into the App and collecting/scanning the powers - but I am wondering what exactly 'Chicken Power' is?
This also seems to answer a question I've seen about a Merlok 2.0 'figure' - seems he's a flat hologram 'banner'!
Check out those dual moulded pieces under the six shooters! Looks like a brand new piece in dark blue + neon orange!
pagani88 - I don't think it's a dual mold piece. Looks like a transparent wedge/wing plate with a seperate dkblue wedge/pyramid piece on top. Both still new parts though.
I'm looking forward to this theme, mostly for the pieces though.
So, you want a realistic, down-to-earth show... that's completely off-the-wall and swarming with magic robots?
Nice, a round table! :D I guess if they use the round table for meals as well as strategy meetings, that would help explain the chefbot. And that makes me very happy, since banquet halls are one of the many features that are typically missing from non-licensed LEGO Castle themes.
@Pagani88: Judging from some of the other pics I've seen, that's not a dual-molded piece. It's a new Earth Blue wedge slope on top of a Tr. Flu. Reddish Orange wedge plate. Which I suppose is even more useful, all things considered, since it doesn't lock you into such a specific color scheme for MOCs.
well, the WWI tank builders will be happy, as there are pieces on the tower that remind me of some early tanks and submarine armor; some real zoomability in the mini-builds, and I'm sure a tv show would boost sales quite well.
What I fear is that this line won't connect with buyers who are fond of their past. The color scheme reminds me of 1990's space sets, while the Knights do not harken to any memory of earlier Kingdoms-styled sets.
In reality, the use of technic pieces for walls feels more like an attempt to cover more real-estate with fewer bricks... I know this is a 1100 piece set, but I've always been turned off by sets with a large presence of technic pieces within minifig-themed lines. And I'm not a classic castle person, I'm a classic space person. I'd have rather seen more effort placed into the Agents line, though I guess being able to build a few tanks will be nice, as Lego continues to move closer towards building realistic military vehicles each year.
I've never actually played Warhammer 40k, so I could be way off, but that's what this feels like: a colorful Warhammer 40k for kids. Which is... interesting? I like the over the top armor and weapons for the minifigures, so I'll probably grab a few small sets, but the models don't look like anything too compelling.
@Sastrei + Aanchir: Ah, I thought that the orange part was too thin to be a separate piece at first. On second glance, I think you're right. Still cool though :)
I'm looking forward to it, but what is that sort of castle thing on a hill in the background? Probably their main base or something, if this isn't it.
You need to use big Technic pieces as a base to make the thing playable. I think a moving Castle looks amazing, and with colors of Ice Planet I'm very happy.
Chicken Power..... What's Chicken Power...?
Did I miss something?
I'm saddened to hear a lot of Castle fans aren't happy with TLG trying something a little different with the theme. I am very much looking forward to this theme; great new parts, fun and unique models, and great looking minifigures! I'll be picking up several of these. :)
Chicken power? XD
Chicken Powerrrrr: the ability to lay an egg, and cry 'Kukuluukuuuu!'
Perhaps?! IDK!
I definitely like some aspects of this a lot. The 'holographic' Merlok 2.0 is a lot of fun and the Fortrex construction gets my space wheels spinning. The villains and the chef-hat robot seem very odd to me, but I like the fact that it is all crazy and new.
Are those towers made up mainly of large panel bricks? This is looking more like Classic Castle more and more...
It does not grab me. I think I can leave this theme on the shelf.
If I was a kid I would be all over this, but as an AFOL it doesn't interest me beyond some of the pieces and building techniques. I'll be passing on this theme (my wallet thanks me).
Naaah, still a pass for me... Eagerly waiting next castle line. At least i hope it will be a success for TLG so as they earn more money and eventually design a "clasic" clasic-castle line along with whatever else they want/believe will earn them more kid customers.
Even regardless of whether the sets suck or not, I admit, the graphics for it are excellent.
I'm optimistic!
This box pic also reveals that the shields can clip to the front of the flyer and bike. I definitely think they both look a lot better with the shields attached. :)
I'm looking forward to some of the minifigs (which look interesting). But the rest, I'm definitely gonna pass on. I don't think they look great at all.
Chima 2.0. This is bad.
If I understood correctly, there is some sort of game inside? Maybe some fantasy board game? JUEGA GRATIS, it says, on the side of the box...
Juega gratis... Hmmm. Maybe it's an ad for a free Mobile Nexo Knights App?
Pass. Looks like the mutant love child of Chima, Ninjago and Space, and not in a good way. I can't even call it a 'castle' theme, even if LEGO does.
Bring back the fantasy era castle or something, not this mess...
It's got a really warcraft-y look.
I think the general idea is great: combining castle with robots and space sounds like there's great potential for a lot of fun. The images for many of the line's sets we've seen recently did kill my enthusiasm somehow though. A lot of the stuff looked weird and too much over the top to me.
But then I'm likely not the target group...
The cynics re: this theme don't cease to amuse me. Personally, between the new parts and the clever construction techniques I'm really looking forward to it.
In original Dungeons and Dragons a peasant had 1d4 hit points, and a chicken was capable of doing 1d2 hit points per round. Being a chicken owner was a risky thing for a peasant and flocks of chickens are a lethal weapon of mass destruction. Chicken power!!
So is it a good or a bad thing that the designers of these sets played fantasy tabletop games?
I love fantasy books and worlds, it's so hard to see that those who should embrace this idea the most are rejecting it because it isn't the type of 'fantasy' world they wanted.

It looks like those little red minions that everyone loves are called "Scurriers".
I'm really digging this theme, can't wait for January.
The scurriers are cool. I'll probably pick up one or two on the secondary market (i.e. BrickLink) along with a few other minifig parts/accessories from this line. Otherwise, I'll pass on NK.
I'm another of those naysayers who doesn't find NK's thematic hodgepodge appealing. Fantasy Era forever!
For those who seem to dislike this theme because they think its some kind of castle/space mash-up, consider this quote from Arthur C Clarke: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
Think of Nexo Knights as high fantasy, where 'technology' is just a renaming of powerful magic. - It really seems nothing more than a choice of words - saying that Merlok is a 'hologram' and they can 'download' powers, instead of 'magical spirit' and 'cast spells'.
Personally, I think it's disgusting. Horrible! Maybe, citing a certain actor, "I'm too old for this shit".
But... Isn't it great about Lego?
You don't like it - don't buy it. You have enough wonderful sets to buy even if you dislike 80% of them. And if you have enough money, you can always go bricklink and get 6085 MISB. :-D
Personally I love NexoKnights! It's a pretty awesome mix of two of my favorite themes and looks like something straight out of an 80s cartoon. It's really nice to see LEGO taking chances on new themes that aren't the same old stuff. I love Castle, but it's last few lines (apart from when they introduced the dwarves) has been nearly indistinguishable. This looks like a breath of fresh air--a cool one at that!
@ Alonzo
I couldn't agree more!
