City Advent Calendar Review: Day 3

Posted by ,

Today's offering from the City Advent Calendar is typical of the product. Tables and market stalls are often included along with a few food elements and this model clearly follows that precedent.

However, this year is a little more interesting than usual. Rather than a standard market stall we now have the side of an ice rink which makes use of three 1x4 tiles in trans-light blue to form the frozen surface. A pie is also found resting on the side beside a storage bin for some ice skates. This is a decent model in my opinion and invites expansion either with the addition of more pieces or simply the imagination.

The model perfectly represents the disparity between the City and Friends Advent Calendars as both have now included gifts based around the theme of ice skating. While I think yesterday's Friends model is more colourful and visually appealing than this one, the City gift is far more substantial as it includes 13 pieces whereas the Friends model had only 6.

Overall - 3.5 - I rather like this little model as it provides some nice scenery and play value, although the somewhat bland colour scheme could be improved upon.

Nice to get a pie and a micro iceskatepark... BUT seriously: no play/deco value what so ever! I'd give it 2.0

@icey But you could put the skates on yesterday's minifigure and let him skate on the ice! He could fall over, smash his camera and choke on his pretzel. ;)

By in Sweden,

- Loving the calendar so far! The only problem however, is the picture we have on this site for the product when you search for it (http://brickset.com/sets/60099-1/City-Advent-Calendar) As it seems. At least this far, is that the "offerings" are sorted in the right days from bottom to the top... Which might be quite enoying, stating the fact that one actually knows what Lego-gift one will get each day untill the 24th... Kind of a big blunder right there when you think about it...

;(
