Friends Advent Calendar Review: Day 3
Posted by LostInTranslation,
Today’s model is a vast improvement on yesterday’s, and is a lovely little multi-colour sled model consisting of 8 parts, though I’m not sure why two 1x4 yellow plates were used when surely a 2x4 would be easier?
The seat area of the sled is in bright pink and uses a 1x2 panel piece with divider for Andrea’s feet to clip into securely, as is customary in Friends sets.
I was unfamiliar with the part used for the rails of the sled, a 1x2 modified plate with a grille, as I tend not to buy many sets featuring race cars but it is perfect for a mini model such as this.
I can definitely imagine a child swooshing Andrea about on her sled, maybe making a little slope for her to zoom down. I think it is a really nice robust model that is great in terms of playability.
I give this model a score of 4.

Funny enough, I just got around to giving my daughter the 2012 Friends Calendar (we had it sitting in storage) and she opted to open that one instead of 2015's. Yesterday's model was also a sled, fairly similar to this one except with a hook in the back and two 1x2 plates with handlebars for the sled rails. I liked the 2012 version better, as I think the handlebar pieces make a more effective bottom.
Definitely not the first time the race car part has been used for sleds: 60036, for example, has that feature. Not a fan of this style, as the bottoms are not smooth and make sliding around difficult. I agree with Res ^; the 2012 version is better for that, but this one has more unique colors. 3.5 score.
My guess on the 1x4s would be the usual "these parts are used somewhere else in the set" thing. Either that, or the designer was trying to drive the piece count up...
