LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures announced
Posted by TheBrickPal,Following on from the success of The Yoda Chronicles and Droid Tales miniseries, LEGO and Lucasfilm have officially partnered for a full LEGO Star Wars television series.
The Freemaker Adventures will start to air this summer on Disney XD and is set in between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Of course, we already know that we will be receiving at least two sets based on the series.
You can check out the full description from StarWars.com after the break!
Told in the whimsically-charged style that audiences have come to expect from LEGO Star Wars entertainment, the series stars the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy. When their youngest discovers a natural connection with the Force through an ancient artifact — the Kyber Saber — his world is turned upside down, and he and his family are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers explore new worlds, meet new and familiar characters, and learn the true value of what it means to be a family.
“We are very excited to launch for the first time a TV series with Disney XD,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing & entertainment at the LEGO Group. “The creative team behind The Freemaker Adventures is extremely talented, and the series is a great testament to our longstanding and successful partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney. The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action, and adventure in a galaxy far, far away with the creativity, imagination, and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver. We are sure fans young and old are going to love the show.”
“With The Freemaker Adventures we are thrilled to bring all-new stories to life that could only be realized in the LEGO Star Wars universe,” said Carrie Beck, vice president, animation development at Lucasfilm. “We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD, and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth.”
LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures is a production of Wil Film, the LEGO Group, and Lucasfilm. Developed for television by Bill Motz and Bob Roth (Penguins of Madagascar), they join Torsten Jacobson (LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales) and Jill Wilfert (The LEGO Movie) as executive producers alongside producers Carrie Beck (Star Wars Rebels), Jason Cosler (LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled!), Jake Blais, and John McCormack.

The thing in the background of the poster on the left almost looks like something from cloud city.
Maybe the 1990's build style is referring to the fact this family of scavengers is a bunch of Bricklink scalpers selling junk sets for lots of money? :)
I guess no one liked Darth Vader's new helmet because he is wearing the old one in the poster.
All I can hear in the title is 'Free Masons'... ; )
Now we know what that battle droid from the London Toy Fair was doing with the eclipse fighter set.
Another Lego Star Wars original storyline? How many does this make? :P
^ Why not? XD
^ Based on the track record of sets based on LEGO's original Star Wars storylines I think some scepticism is valid! The series are generally good but the sets are awful, occupying spaces in the line-up that could have been occupied by models that Star Wars fans actually want.
That is true, but LEGO should take some risks. I'll admit, I didn't love The Yoda Chronicles all that much, but that was a few years back and I'm sure LEGO learned something from it.
Plus, we're getting so many other SW sets this summer too; Freemaker being only a very small margin of them.
@xboxtravis7992, you might be onto something there, we shall see if this ship can be added to those of us who want to build more civilian vehicles for our space dioramas to inhabit.
Sounds like a hilarious animated thing, but I've seen the two sets, and they are completely unappealing to me. Meh.
I just hope their scrapped-together token comic relief droid has a Gonk communication module so we won't have to hear "roger roger" every 40 seconds!
Looks like the Star Scavenger may be a very, very small set, while in-universe it's roughly the width of the Mil. Falcon, but based off a Defender 'vette design. I wonder if the model will have a hollow that'll allow you to fully load bricks you scoop up with the bucket. If the bucket effectively seals the front when you fold it back, then a lever-activated trap door on the bottom of the ship would make for a nice dumping/bombing feature.
Historically, animated expansion to the Star Wars Universe (Clone Wars and Rebels) has been great, adding context to parts of the Star Wars universe we didn't know before whilst using good characters, pacing and action scenes along the way. I wonder if we'll see one or two of the characters from Rebels in Rogue One, fleshed out by real actors? Considering Disney regards Rebels as canon this shouldn't be too much to hope for.
On the Lego hand I've seen a couple of episodes of both Yoda Chronicles and Droid Tales and the mash up of humour from a Lego Star Wars videogame, weird voices and a story mishmash doesn't really gel to me. So hopefully the Freemakers get the humour across much better. I'm not really sure I want models from the series, but I haven't seen them fully yet.
Looks pretty cool!
@theJANG - What do you mean by small? It's a $70 set, how small can it be? Do you mean in comparison to the actual ship?
It gives me new SW universe characters and I'm always good with that. Not sure about the ships but I will take new characters any day.
I wonder about all the new Jedi/Force Sensitives that they are introducing in Rebels and this. At some point they will have to deal with what becomes of them.
Since Disney owns SW and is creating this series with Lego, THIS WILL BE SW CANON!
Looking forward to it.
The story actually sounds reasonably interesting! The minifigure parts might come in handy too.
Looks alright. Hopefully lego learned from their mistakes with Yoda Chronicles.
At least the minifigs look good and appealing.
As for the spaceship, it would have benefit from a smoother design. I hope it will be nicer in real than on this poster.
I'm looking forward to seeing this show and... getting one or two related sets. ^^
