75098 Assault on Hoth information
Posted by CapnRex101,
Finally, after what might be the longest period between the initial reveal of a set and its release, we have received details of 75098 Assault on Hoth. The set was initially 'announced' as part of the list of D2C sets leaked in January 2015 and then appeared in a video on LEGO.com in July.
The set will be revealed at the New York Toy Fair at the weekend and will be released in May for the May The Fourth weekend but for now we have information about it from a press release published by PRNewswire which you can read after the break...
LEGO Assault on Hoth Base will challenge even the most skilled fan builders.
Experienced builders can recreate the Rebel Force’s Echo Base from Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back in an unbelievably detailed recreation of one of the most iconic scenes in the original Star Wars trilogy. The 2144-piece building set inspires fans to build their own scouting missions with the Snowspeeder, armed with twin spring-loaded shooters, and get back to base on the speeder bike to help Luke, Han and the other Rebel heroes. The modular design enables fans to customize their Rebel base configuration, including a Wampa cave and Wampa figure.
The set features LEGO minifigure versions of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Toryn Farr, Wes Janson, Wedge Antilles, K-3PO, and more. Available May 1st for $249.99.
The price point of $249.99 in the US should correspond with a price of £199.99 in the UK. I have to confess to being fairly unimpressed with this set based on its appearance alone, as I have been since we caught our first glimpse last summer, although I look forward to seeing the play features in action at the toy fair.

Awesome! Looks good!
Finally! Been waiting for this since last January.
Surprised to see that Wedge Antilles is included.
As an experienced builder, I'll mostly enjoy these two spring loaded shooters :D
No, just kidding, really looking forward to this, and to be honest, I wish it's a good playset as well as good display piece - such set calls for playability.
Most exciting news this month! Now we just have to wait until May 1st or maybe mid April for VIP's.
I'm assuming there will also be a princess Leia and snowtrooper minifigures included as well.
Definitely. If you watch the video it looks like there will be at least 5 or 6 Rebel Troopers and 3 Snowtroopers
Not my first choice, but more scenery for Star Wars is a good thing!
They should have put an AT-ST in this set to give the imperials something to fight with. I would have taken that over another snowspeeder.
I'm waiting for pictures to confirm my disappointment. Another Snowspeeder, another white Speederbike, another Wampa cave, another Turret. It's like they are about to rehash 6 existing Hoth sets into one giant new set for $250.
Given that I only own one Snowspeeder and zero Wampa this looks like a great buy to me, must see the official pictures and video to satisfy me.
Well this is one set I will buy straight away, but just wish it was bigger. £250+ would be sweeter.
Seems a really odd choice for a UCS. It's basically recreating the scene where they shoot the ion cannon out at the Star Destroyer so the transport can escape - which is hardly the most iconic. And then you get a few random Hoth bits. Just seems like there are other scenes you would pick first.
Sounds great! Wedge Antilles have better have a proper dark green print on his helmet however...
I'm calling it now, this is not going to be anywhere near as cool as Ewok Village.
wait, ANOTHER Hoth base set?
Hm, biggest Lego-related decision of the year. Should I buy this only for Wes and Wedge? Probably not. I hope they won't be too hard to find on the secondary market.
Put me down in the skeptical camp.
The Ion Cannon really doesn't do it for me, and overall it appears be a large version of 75138 which I'd say looks like one of the worst Star Wars Lego sets in years.
Saying this, I'm always big enough to eat my words once it comes out, and who knows it may be fantastic...
At $279.00 at least in Canada, this is a pass.
I really do wish Lego would stop with all of the licensed sets and collections. I understand that Star Wars and super heros are a huge money maker for them but the prices are crazy. I do tend to stay away from most and only pick a few up on sale now and then.
I already have most of the Hoth sets, I don't need anymore.
What I really want is a large Bespin set (the current carbon freeze chamber is very disappointing).
I hope the base is more substantial than that still taken from the video, and what I can remember from it. I saw the Ewok Village built in a Lego Store and it felt like it was worth at least £150 with the scale and detail. I've not been able to bring myself to spend £200 on it though, especially considering I bought the Death Star on May the Fourth last year. Perhaps this Hoth Base will be better though, at least better than the £100 Hoth set from 2011. I still have the one (7666?) from 2007 and I really loved the hangar door construction, even though it had dual moulded burps.
Hmm i'm guessing its another UCS with a high price per piece count, but i think i would pass this one and wait for the upcoming 2016 Death Star.
The minifig selection sounds good (I'm cautiously excited to see Wedge and Wes) although I'm surprised to see 2 Hoth Hans in one year.
I am not happy too see another speeder bike :P There must be some canonical vehicle that they could create in Lego form in place of this or even another minifig. I already have 3 snowspeeders but to be fair, they are awesome.
I really hope it comes with a Tauntaun!
2100 pieces is not epic enough, considering all the Hoth scenery sets that have been available over the years. 5000 pieces to create a wide-ranging landscape, with a plethora of turrets and an AT-AT, would have been a more daring design choice...but I'll probably buy it anyway!
It just seems to me like they took every Hoth set released yet, and stuck them all together. The only thing that looks to be new is the Ion Cannon...
No AT-AT walker? Extremely disappointing
Well if they had one then the price would probably be more like $599.99
Disappointing so far, hope the actual pictures will change my mind.
It'll be interesting to see... but a 2100 piece set may leave much to be desired. It should keep the set price low (for a UCS diorama), but leave many AFOLs wishing for more.
new wampa mold?
Did I see right and that ion cannon in the video has a seat? Why?
Honestly I cant seem to find the new picture?
I read comments of people being unimpressed. Is that opinion based on the video?
If so, I will wait until the official pictures are available.
I do have high expectations considering the Ewok village and the Sandcrawler!
It looks like a collection of small sub-sets when fans were really crying out for a base build a la something like twice the size of e.g. Jabbas Palace scale plus the Hoth extras - won't be getting it.
I will reserve my opinion about this until I have seen pictures of the actual set. However as a Hoth collector I say: Yes! Hoth more Hoth! Quite frankly I would buy this even if it was just a Wampa holding an icecream.
There haven't been real pictures yet, right? I'm still curious, as a Hoth fan who has none of the previous sets. This might tempt me more than any other UCS, if it's well put-together and offers something new or substantial. That seems like a big "if," though.
Love Hoth and ESB, but Lego are really starting to price me out of this hobby.
So they can't be bothered to say if Princess Leia is in the set, she might be a 'more'.... How disappointing!
@kmvk83: most people, including me, are expecting what is shown in the animated video clip from July 2015 to be the set.
It's what I'm expecting, too, and it does not impress me much at all. As a OT completist I've been collecting all the Hoth-based sets since the very first Snowspeeder, but I'm pretty much too bored with the constant Hoth rehashes to even build the sets like 75014 and 75138 or even the 8129 and 75054 Hoth-based AT-AT's. I've already got a pretty nice set-up with 7666 and 7879 and a couple of additional Snowspeeders. I doubt this UCS Hoth base will really add much to that set-up.
Bah, again, some new around some old subsets. In total, it looks like a 5 in 1 box.
This remember me about the Cantina set, which was more a "glimpse of Mos Eislay" (especially the speed glider was unecessary, while it was release just before). What I really wish for Echo Base is a wholehearted command center plus the hanger, with a ground crew, but not another speeder, turret or soldier. A refresh of the gate would be fine (because this is actual a long time since the first one). Fortunately these are Lego parts, so i continue to create a base on my own. All I depend on TLG is a sheet of stickers =:-Þ (A cry for much more printed pieces).
If they wanted a modular design they should have concentrated the 2000 pieces on the hoth base and let you add extra modules of your choosing. Ion canon, wampa cave, existing speeder and so on. I was looking forward to this but take away all the extras I all ready own and it doesn't leave many pieces for the actual hoth base.
I wonder if this will include an AT-ST. There *might* be one for Rogue One, but there hasn't been an AT-ST since 2009, and there were AT-ST's on Hoth... but that would take even more away from the actual base. Grrrr...
^ Given as they mentioned the snowspeeder and speeder bike, I doubt it.
Thnx for the link!!
Seeing this I am disappointed.
This hardly looks like a set with 2100+ pieces. Like the other UCS sets. This could very well be a pass for me.....
Thanks for the link, it's helped me decide not to buy this. I already have everything shown apart from the Ion Cannon, so I'm probably better off spending the £200 on white bricks from Bricklink and continue to build my own version.
Severe lack of imagination here LEGO.
Easily the worst SW Set 2016 (so far)! Nothing there that justifies the 250€ price tag! That Wampa cave even looks exactly like the one back in 2010! http://brickset.com/sets/8089-1/Hoth-Wampa-Cave
I for one, like it! I've got very few Hoth sets, so I'm definitely getting this!
Wow, that is incredibly underwhelming. It really does look like a 5-in-1 set with a couple new pieces. Nothing there interests me since I already have most of that in one way or another.
I know that everyone is complaining that its just a giant rerelease of old Hoth sets, but as a relatively new collector with a single snowspeeder, I might be picking this one up.
Comments containing links to leaked images will be deleted. Please don't post them.
Good job I took a screenshot so that I can constantly remind myself just how poor this set appears to be.
I will probably be getting this one. It's not perfect, but I like it. I'm surprised there is no Princess Leia. But what if the promo for May the 4th is Hoth Leia?
It can't be a bigger disappointment than the Batcave... right? Right?!?!
Has LEGO ever released a Snowtrooper battle pack? Snow Troops (Of old and new) are my favorite looking troops in Star Wars.
Yes 8084 Snowtrooper battle pack.
I've seen photos. No snowspeeder in sight, and yes it really is just a larger scaled compilation of past sets.
@Lego_Fox: I've seen photos as well. There is a snowspeeder. It's got orange markings, unlike the one from 2014, but in other regards looks exactly the same. Which is no bad thing, because it helps to build a squadron!
I'm glad we are getting updated and needed minis, but I'm also anxious to see exactly how similar it is to other sets. Will we have an updated Luke in a Bacta tank? How about that R2 unit in the background? I have to agree that another snowspeeder is a little excessive as they just released one last year.
"Will we have an updated Luke in a Bacta tank? "
Not in this set based on the front and back box images but I can't see the top side with the minifig list.
It's all very well having 2144 pieces, but how many of those will be 1x1 white slopes? Judging value for money by piece count is flawed. Perhaps weight is the way forward?!!
I don't think the set actually contains Leia. The brown haired female is Toryn Farr.
As expected, it's EXACTLY the set featured in the Lego video from July 2015(!). No need for any mysteriousness. Underwhelming, except perhaps for the amount of minifigs.
I still think the Turret looks off. Years ago the Lego store in Mall of america had a great turret setup. Although I have never been able to make a recreation like it. Overall I like what is included, yet I am on tthe fence about buying it.
Well does not look as impressive as the Ewok Village. However as I do not have any Hoth sets this may go well with 7879 to give it more scenery inside. What do yo think?
Saw pictures, and wow there is no way I will buy that set. Too expensive for what it is!
I think it's interesting they call it UCS (on the box). It does a decent job of being a huge playset to give kids Hoth in a box. It certainly doesn't do a good job of sitting on a table looking awesome, like the Death Star, Super Star Destroyer, even Ewok Village. Seems Lego's definition of UCS is just 'big and expensive'.
The most annoying part for me is there os definitely a UCS badge/logo on the box. This means I'll now have an incomplete UCS collection as this is not a UCS set. As others have said it is merely a 5 in 1 compilation set with little thought, time or design put into it.
Yeah this doesn't look like a fancy collector's item. I thought a UCS Hoth base would have been those doors, with scenes in the interior that actually look like they are part of an ice cave; with docks for snowspeeders and what not. It looks like half the budget of this set was spent on useless turrets on the outside... All the figures are interesting at least.
Images of this set are still embargoed. Please do not post links to them.
All will be revealed tomorrow at lunchtime GMT.
Hmmm... Disappointing to say the least. So much potential wasted on a cave, a shield generator, another snowspeeder, an ion cannon, and a bunch of turrets.... Why couldn't they have made a base?
I think the set actually looks a lot more appealing after seeing the box (vs the original video). The door looks massive and impressive. The turrets, power generator and ion cannon are a little small but still look cool and close enough to the movie. I like the fact that it comes with 6 generic rebel troopers since my rebels are currently sorely outnumbered. Lets not ignore that the set comes with 15 very nice looking looking minifiigs and a Tauntaun!
I agree that I could do without another Wampa and another Snowspeeder but I can see the appeal to anyone who missed the previous sets. By that logic, it doesn't make sense that Han was included in both Hoth sets this year. Also, there is no excuse for another white speeder bike :P I hated it the first time, I certainly don't need a fourth!
Funny that we can't send pictures even when they aren't watermarked now.
But the set is rather crap. That's $250? I don't get it. They should have released a huge massive base and then could have released a Snowtrooper battepack, another Snowspeeper. But instead we get a bunch of old looking sets in a $250 package.
And it took them forever t come up with that?
This is a serious disappointment. Bunch of remakes shoved together and given an extra $50 out of nowhere... I do kind of like the gate and the Lowell Sphere ion cannon, though.
I've seen Ewok Village in person and assisted in building it, and it was better in every way than this set. It's a lot more cohesive than 75098, it isn't a remake, it has a great minifigure selection, it has a lot of playability... basically, get the Ewok Village over this, if you want to get a $250 Star Wars playset.
I can only hope that this means a Cloud City UCS is in the works for next year, but that's only hope, not a rumour, I buy a lot of Star Wars sets but hardly ever anything above £100-£120 in one go so I have to miss out on the UCS sets. I'm going to need to see something properly good to set aside the money from other sets for a UCS, so I'm looking forward to seeing what this is like properly.
As others have said, it's just a mashup, so I'll probably just get it for Toryn Farr. :o
Yep. Gutted. My dust will be so disappointed.
Here's a link to the designer's video. After viewing this, I am quite a bit more hopeful. I really kinda want to play with this thing!
