May the Fourth polybag revealed

Posted by ,

The annual May the Fourth promotional polybag has been revealed as 30602 First Order Stormtrooper. This minifigure looks almost identical to the Heavy Artillery Stormtrooper in 75132 First Order Battle Pack, with a slightly updated torso design and a backpack.

I am very disappointed with this effort as there are many characters which have yet to be represented as minifigures and plenty of fan favourites which would be ideal for an exclusive polybag. This is therefore a bewildering choice as I think most collectors were satisfied with the minifigure in 75132 and the addition of an extra ammunition pack on the chest is not sufficient to justify an update.

What do you think of this polybag and which other characters would you prefer?

At least there is no pressure to buy sets for an exclusive polybag this year when a nearly identical design is in a $12 battle pack.

By in United Kingdom,

It looks like it's adorned with a suicide bombers vest, rather bad taste in my opinion.

By in United States,

This minifig doesn't look special at all. This makes me feel much better about deciding to buy some of the newer original trilogy SW sets during the recent 2x VIP sale instead of waiting for possible May the 4th discounts. C'mon Lego, you're better than this!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is really lame. I was hoping for a Captain Ithano or a Gauvian Soldier figure to be the May the 4th figure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Should have been Luke. :'( This is not good enough to justify $75 bucks.

By in United Kingdom,

Would it be too hard to have the Finn in Stormtrooper garb (Maybe even wit bloodied helmet) here and a different one for the game. Especially as you can only get it with x-box one and PS4 purchases of the game. Maybe have that c-3po one with the game instead with the game instead of whatever it was used for.

By in United States,

What a waste. Crimson Corsair, please!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Please tell me this is an early April Fools... Where's Nien Nunb???
The extra ammunition pack and the backpack weren't even on any of the Heavys in the film! They made it up!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Wow. Hilariously bad.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I thought Unkar's brute was a bad choice as an exclusive figure for the new DK book but this is even worse.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, this makes me feel better that it's not Old Luke and I can hold out hope that he'll appear cheaper than a $75 purchase freebie somewhere else.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Do you think they've included double VIP points for the May 4th promo because they know this minifig is a bigger flop than the UCS hoth!?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

One word: YAWN !!!!!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I've seen what I presume is the calendar add online showing you get it after spending $ 50 and not $ 75. I was personally hoping for PZ-4CO. Might be a lot to ask though, I don't remember them creating new molds for May the Fourth promotions.

Gravatar
By in United States,

To be fair, we do in fact see this guy in the film; he's one of the two troopers who chase Finn and Rey on foot on Jakku before calling in air support.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego is going to have themselves a pretty weak May the 4th sales total compared to other years.

Gravatar
By in United States,

CapnRex, you owe us reviews of chaos catapult and the Battlefront imperial battlepack. Please please please review them soon.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This guy can also be seen briefly in the battle of takodana (?) just before the resistance fighters show up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

l'd rather have a Hoth Han

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@hjmediastudios and @willp2003 - We see plenty of heavy artillery troopers in the film and one even wears a backpack when pursuing Rey and Finn, but none have the extra ammunition pouch as far as I know.

@Dalek135 - A review of 75134 Galactic Empire Battle Pack is scheduled and will be posted in the next week or two.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope this is an early April Fools joke. This is pathetic.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the Megablaster Stormtroopers but this is poor for an exclusive polybag. At the very least they could have included an appropriate weapon!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So the year we get the first new Star Wars film in 10 years, this is the best Lego can come up with for May the Fourth? I'm more bewildered than anything to be honest.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

At least the FO General is a neat figure to lead either the FO Armies or the Regular Imperial Army. Oh I got an even better idea: one of theSW Legends Death Troopers (zombie from an adult SW novel, it's not like LEGO hasn't done zombiees before).

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Lame........

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think they should have had the blood helmet Finn instead

Gravatar
By in United States,

You'd think they'd give out a minifigure cool and exclusive enough to drive sales, but that never seems to be the case.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

To top it off - is it just a standard Stormtrooper head? Couldn't be more of a phoned in effort if Lego actually tried.

Gravatar
By in United States,

well, that's $75 I won't be spending that day.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Probably the first year i wont be buying anything on May 4th, unless there is some serious discounting on the Sandcrawler or Ewok Village.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So, how do we get the First Order General polybag if it's not on May 4th?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

What a giant meh of the figure!

On the other hand, one can't argue with free. This bonus figure is better than no figure.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

WOW. That is actually pathetic. Huge disappointment. I hope there's some good discounts for May the 4th, otherwise it's a write-off for me. Gutted.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Yay, finally a May 4th figure I won't mind missing out on...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ahem! LEGO! Putting "The Force Awakens" on something does not automatically make it GOOD!

Still, if you buy four battle packs, you get 9 stormtroopers that way. But otherwise, what a waste.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very confusing, not enticing people to make extra purchases for sure, weird.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Who would I have rather had? So many, many possibilities. In no particular order-

-Old Luke
-Lando Calrissian (Seriously it's been AGES since we last got one, and THAT was in disguise)
-Mon Mothma (Only ever been in one set, and that was 'before my time')
-Crix Madine (See above)
-Supreme Leader Snoke
-Beru Lars.
-Grand Admiral Thrawn
-Mara Jade
-Talon Karrde (OK I know these last three are all 'legends' now. But they're pretty famous 'legend' characters)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love how everyone complains, reminds me of all the losers on World of Tanks. Looks like a nice minifig, probably not worth $75, but I'm not getting anything anyway. If it flops like it appears it's going to, I can probably Bricklink or eBay a couple for my army.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah I wish it was Luke too. But this one looks cool as well.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Doesn't anyone think that there will be an Ahch-To temple set, with old Luke, Rey, and some terrain? It would make more sense than a Luke May the 4th polybag.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Luke's being saved for Ep VIII sets I'd imagine. Crimson Corsair is the only viable Ep VII option in my opinion and he's not even a May 4th fig. Holding out for a 'Han's Space Freighter' interior set!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think Bala-Tik would've been a great choice, black scruffy hair, menacing bearded face and a blaster. Perhaps one of his Guavian soldiers? Perhaps another Kanjiklub member? Captain Ithano? Nien Nunb as an X-Wing pilot? This would've been great if this hadn't appeared in the battlepack (which it really shoudln't have anyway, we should've had two stormtroopers)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hmmmm..... Revan or remade stormtrooper......

Gravatar
By in Canada,

How boring. I was planning on making a big purchase that day but there's no chance now (unless they offer triple points... which they won't)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego stinks! They continue to disappoint. I was going to maybe buy the UCS hoth that day, but I will wait and get it with my 15% employee discount from my local toy store.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

While the May calendar has revealed the disappointing May 4th promo, at least it has revealed the VIP early release of the next D2C release.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It seems like none of the exclusive minifigs are anything special anymore. This and the Unkar Brute from the upcoming book are about as lazy and cheap as you can get. I doubt i'll be buying anything for the 4th.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This is a joke, right? And I thought the Hoth Han was awful... I miss the days when they were chrome figures. I mean, a chrome phasma! come one! It doesn't even require a second of thought!

This is utterly pathetic

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Maybe this is an exclusive episode viii reveal featuring an updated stormtrooper...

... Ok, I tried to think of a positive, but given what tlg have done with the ucs hoth set, this does not surprise me at all. Very disappointing :(

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

This minifigure should have been included with the First Order Battle Pack. Other than that I don't really have a problem with this polybag, though I would prefer the old Luke Skywalker or Rey in her new outfit at the end of the film.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

This is a pass for me, as the other ep VII sets.
Bí the way, since 2014 i'm not getting the May the 4th promo polybags. 2014 Darth Revan is an unknown character for me, 2015 Admiral Yularen is a so-so figure, but 2016 Stormie is the worst of all.
It will not justify any SW purchase at LEGO.com, unless there will be huge discounts what I doubt. The regular 10% discounts still result in too high price compared to other online sources.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I like this, I think its a good idea, although I thought we would get the First Order General. However I would prefer for the Trooper to have a mounted Cannon like they do in the movie. I'm not disappointed with this choice. But I'm not sure if ill participate in the event.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Bit of a weird choice...Definitely would have preferred a fig we wouldn't have gotten otherwise...or HOTH LEIA??

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

@magykfyre: Hoth Leia was included in set 7879 Hoth Echo Base (sw346)
Actually sw113 Leia minifig also came with Hoth outfit, however the hairpiece was more of the Ep IV with two buns, which is inaccurate for Hoth Leia.

Gravatar
By in United States,

How you normally obtain a May 4th polybag?

Gravatar
By in United States,

@toyo, buy the right amount of sets to get you $75 worth on May 4th, or just get on eBay or Bricklink.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My first May the Fourth as an AFOL. Relatively disappointed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can think of a few characters they could of done
Ello Asty
Big red droid you see on Takodana
Guavian gang member
And of course Luke Skywalker

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well that tears it! I was on the fence, very much so, as painful as it is just sitting there, about buying the UCS Hoth set. I thought if an excellent May the 4th figure came with it as an exclusive it may push me over to the "buy it" side. Now I'm officially off the fence and my wallet is safe. So in a way, thanks Lego, for being extremely disappointing. At least my wife will be happy.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I actually like the figure. Would prefer something 'better' but it's still essentially free :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lazy cost-cutting from Lego this year. It might be just a giveaway, but they make so much $$$ out of Star Wars as it is, you'd think they could afford to do something cool, but clearly it's not necessary as fans are going to buy whatever is on sale anyways.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Shame on Lego for such a lazy, disappointing offering like this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Like others I guess I don't HAVE to order anything on that day. I was planning on ordering some, but not any big purchases.Plus this isn't too exciting...hmm

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is it just me, or has the rest of Lego Star Wars (and a fare amount of other SW products) been rather disappointing this year? This is the year after the return of live action Star Wars but yet we have continually been given half hearted products. This is pathetic and I fear a symptom of a larger problem SW merchandise in general is facing.

If they want the fans from Episode VII to stay fans, they need to continue producing quality and exciting products, and unfortunately that has not been the case this year.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Pfft.

Gravatar
By in United States,

FYI, I was watching Pre-order of Star Wars Force Awakens and in the deleted scenes there was a Stormtrooper with the heavy gunner ammunition holders and the ammunition holder for the officer. But he also had the red pauldron of the officer. So there was going to be a Stormtrooper with both the ammunition holders in Force Awakens.
