Nightwing

We have been sent a picture of a forthcoming polybag 30606, which features a new version of the Justice League member Nightwing. It will be packaged with the DC Super Heroes direct-to-DVD film Gotham City Breakout this summer.

Also, there's a picture in the database of the Escape the Space Slug set that's being given away at the invitation-only May the Fourth VIP event first thing tomorrow in brand stores. If you are going and you don't want the surprise spoilt, don't click on this link.

@NavyAsk: Because they're not meant to be lightsabers... Therefore they don't need hilts.

By in Canada,

Is this a new hair mold or is it the spikey one, but just looking different because of the polybag..?

By in United States,

^ Spikey.

@NavyAsk: You can tell from his expression he's not enjoying holding them hiltless..

By in United States,

Well I heard they're hot to the touch, so why he's holding two, let alone one, beats me.

By in United States,

In regards to the VIP event tomorrow - is this something one can request an invitation for, or sign up somehow?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks like the special VIP invite for Star Wars Day is in the US only. What a surprise :-(

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The vip event is in Canada as well.

By in United Kingdom,

It's in the UK and Europe too. A large number of forum members will be going, myself included.

The Gotham City Breakout film with free Nightwing minifig is available for preorder on Amazon UK, FYI. With a July release date.

Do you know what will be on offer? Blagged my way in Christmas without an invite

By in United States,

Nightwing looks good... the space slug set is flippin' awesome and hilarious. Love it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

How does one qualify to be invited to this VIP only event? I mean, I guess you have to be a VIP member, but what else qualifies you?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm a VIP member, buy every Star Wars set. Zippo invite. Pants

Gravatar
By in United States,

How do you get the invite? Just emailed out or something?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lego selected 28 people and contacted them via email. These people then had to contact the Lego Store and turn up personally to get the paper invite. All the stores had the list of email address's and they had to bring the email confirmation with them. Only 28 people have been selected per store involved in the promotion and each store only has 28 sets. If they spend over £100 they get the Space Slug set. The sets that aren't given away are on a strict return to HQ basis.

By in Denmark,

I too go to a May the Fourth VIP event in Copenhagen - Denmark
we are only 20 who is allowed to this here
and we got the invite thourgh our LUG Byggepladen

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO seriously has to stop doing invitation only events in there brand retail stores that make other loyal customers feel alienated or "left out."

Gravatar
By in United States,

@legoknight75 That's not entirely true. LEGO had the LUG Ambassadors offer the slots to their RLUG members first. If a store did not get 28 RLUG participants, then the stores were free to give the remaining invites away first come, first served to their "best customers". If a store got more than 28 RLUG participants, then the store randomly chose 28 participants from the list.

By in United States,

The Space Slug certainly is a clever little set. I would be grateful if someone who gets the set would be kind enough to post a pdf of the instructions/parts list so that "the uninvited" could re-create the set from their personal supply. (I cannot find it on the Lego instructions database)

By in United Kingdom,

The 28 per store explains the high asking prices on eBay :-(

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It'd be nice to get another Nightwing, but I hope he has a not-so-scowl-y alternate expression.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Space Slug should be the available-to-everyone polybag while the lazy Stormtrooper polybag can be left to the VIPs. Sorry VIPs... :P

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego your exclusives suck! Give away a cool set to 28 random people and leave the rest of us to pay hundreds on eBay for them. Message to Lego management: I hate you! Tired of your crap, instead your frequent customers such as myself get some crap mjnifigure as a giveaway.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I spend a great amount at retail stores since I don't have a Lego store anywhere close to me. Yet Lego offers a exclusive set to a very limited few who are able to go to the Lego store. This exclusive should be available to every VIP member at legoshop.com. Also exclusives like SDCC mini figures should be made available to everyone also either in a set or for a price at legoshop.

Nightwing figure looks great!

It continues to be the case that LEGO find ways to ruffle the feathers of the AFOL community - it is as if they take some perverse pleasure from doing this.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well at least with this event AFOLs were given priority to sign up for it via their LUGs before the stores then sent out invitations for the remaining slots.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

@BrianG2402 I agree. that would be so much better

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Good to see the invited LUG members appreciate the freebie slug set and have dropped them on eBay for £200 plus

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not all the slots went to LUG members. As I said, those left vacant after LUG members were given the chance to sign up went to people selected by the stores. I very much appreciate my set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm sure there's a lot of folk that appreciate their freebie. It's just a shame some unscrupulous individuals see such rewards as simply an opportunity to make some money and why LUG members first? Lego Star Wars is my core interest in Lego and whilst I enjoy building solo or with my son I have no interest in joining a LUG.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

LUG's were only given a couple of days to get the invites and I missed it ;-(

Plus, I'd already committed to going to LEGOLAND Windsor for their Star Wars event there. If anybody has a Space Slug Set they'd like to sell please let me know. Thanks - James, Jedi News

By in United States,

I'm getting sick of these invite only promos and exclusives only at comic cons or trade shows

^^ I didn't see you there today James but I figured you must have been :)

Hi Huw, we got stuck in traffic and arrived at 9:30am. Sorry we didn't get to catch up, was looking forward to doing that... there's lots to talk about ;-) We had a good day, hope you did too? When the sun was out it was lovely and warm - but when the sun went in it was freezing. The Death Star addition to LEGO Star Wars Miniland is fantastic and worth seeing. Real shame that some of the other 'May 4th' or 'Star Wars Day' offers weren't available in the park though. Only the TFA C-3PO Minifigure was free with spends of £75 or more, and the questionable 'UCS' 75098 Assault on Hoth, (although on display in the Star Wars and the BIG Shop) was not on sale yet, and was marked as 'Out of Stock'. :-)

By in United States,

I hate to be that guy, but this is not the first look we've gotten of this fig, just the polybag art. Also, excuse my ignorance, but since when is Nightwing a justice league member? I don't read the comics, so maybe I missed something, but he has never been a member in any other media.

By in United Kingdom,

i emailed LEGO today about my disappointment with LEGO on many issues lately including their super exclusive VIP events and the poor giveaway and discounts for their 'Galactic' offers which suggests something huge! I got a call back saying they would feed back my comments to the promotions team and she seemed disappointed with the fact that many 'fans' and AFOLS getting these sets immediately eBay them for hundreds of pounds denying proper fans a chance to own them. She was very nice and did send me the pdf instructions for the Space Slug (here if you want it https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropboxusercontent.com%2Fu%2F10748133%2FStar%2520Wars%2520Space%2520Slug%2520Building%2520Instructions.pdf&h=-AQE7_Lmj )
She also sent me a poly bag trooper too, although I did say on the phone that I was just leaving my opinion and not after anything...

@Okay ... actually, Nightwing's been a member of the Justice League a whole bunch of times. Every active superhero in the DCU is an (unofficial) member of the JLA (so they all get called on during big events or major emergencies). Back during Joe Kelly's run, in "The Obsidian Age" story, the current roster (of the big icons) were lost in time, so Nightwing was drafted into a new JLA and was it's leader (until the original icons returned at the end of the story). And after Bruce Wayne died after "Final Crisis" (Bruce didn't actually die, he was just lost in time), Dick Grayson took up the mantle and became Batman, and he was then back in the JLA (I think he was its leader, then, too, although I'm not sure on that point) for a time.

...it's odd to me that the blue nightwing is just a recolor of the red one in man-bat attack, I'm actually a little disappointed... wanted blue nightwing for a while now... also I think his escrima sticks are supposed to be shorter...

Re: the 'Escape the Space Slug' set, all the eBay resellers and 'valued' customers have paid for is the packaging and instructions manual. I'd rather spend the £20.00 (inc. p+p) to acquire the parts on Bricklink, rather than spending £100 on LEGO which is not competitively priced (compared to May the 4th offers at Amazon, Argos, etc.) just to get hold of an exclusive piece of cardboard and paper!

@yodalego: thank you for getting on to LEGO/publishing the pdf. of the instructions manual. I was going to rely on the current youtube videos + photos of the set, but this makes it a little easier : )
