Free Advent calendar!
Posted by Huw,Pictures of the October store calendar for the USA and Canada have been found on LEGO.com which, as well as confirming that the Death Star will be available for purchase by all, also reveals that the gift with purchase (GWP) for the month will be 40222 Holiday Countdown Calendar allowing you to 'build and rebuild 24 new sets as you count down to the holidays'.
It's hard to see much detail on the small image but it looks more interesting than the City, Friends and Star Wars ones which really have become 'more of the same' every year.
I don't suppose it will be available in Europe, at least not in October, because I think we are finally getting 40220 London Bus as our GWP then.

At least they state that the DS is 'back'. So a direct reference to a rerelease rather than a new set.
@merman I agree, it seems like Lego sees DS as a rerelease.
Oh. Why do you think not in EU eventually? November for example?
I didn't say never, just not in October.
German september/october calendar is on promobricks. Nothing about advent calendar. Lego's American bias is so irritating...
Anyone have info on when the next double VIP period for Europe occurs?
I'd love the advent calendar over here as well. Promobricks' calendar seems to indicate the Caterham will be available to VIPs in october, too. Interesting... :)
GWP (gift with purchase). ??
VIP points. ??
Oh how I wish I didn't live in a 3rd world country.
Holiday Countdown Calendar? Is that really the new term for Advent Calendar?
That does seem like a strange name. "Advent" is specifically the countdown period to Christmas (although it's based on a liturgical calendar and isn't necessarily the 24 days before Christmas, but it's close), and all the gifts in there are clearly Christmas themed. Calling it "holiday" doesn't fool anybody.
Anyway, if you buy all three ACs (Friends, City, and Star Wars), that should put you close to the $100 needed for the freebie.
It states build and rebuild, I'm going to assume your not going to end up with 24 mini models at the end.
For non-german speaking fans, october european offers are:
-free london bus with purchase over 55 euro (oct. 3rd to oct. 22nd)
-4xVIP points for Duplo Purchases on Duplo week (sept. 29th to oct. 9th)
-early acces to Holiday Train (sept. 15th)
-Caterham 7 (october 1st)
Death Star is not mentioned.
Maybe it's a rebuild set, maybe it isn't. Last year's three ACs had between 220 and 280 pieces. This one appears to say "210 pieces" and looks like it has smaller brick-built models rather than vehicles and minifigures.
Hey, there's nothing about double VIP points for Germany!
Do you have pictures of the back of the calendar?
Looks neat but it's not on my aisle.
Yeah! America!
No 2x VIP in October would be a kick in the teeth, seeing as the US got a double VIP weekend not long ago as well.
We got double in October last year so let's keep our fingers crossed.
Looks nice - I hope the UK gets it in the same month as the double VIP points offer, and that the latter ends up being November, because I was thinking of gathering up some stuff for Christmas presents then anyway...
Then again, it's quite a big freebie, and the last time they did double points the freebie was a smaller item (the Chicken Man minifig). Hmmm....
I will end up getting both the City and this new AC... It seems like it will be a fun thing to have.
I noted that the blurb for The Death Star states emphatically "The LEGO Death Star is back!". TLG is certainly making no bones about the fact that the set is a re-issue of the last Death Star.
I respect that.
Separate note: Anybody ever order from LEGO.com regularly? The costs of free shipping dropping to 35 is nice, but is anyone else a bit underwhelmed by the package quality of the items they receive. And...this isn't really the place for this, is it? My bad....
Has anyone gone to a minifig swap at a LEGO store? This is the first time I've heard of one and am thinking of going. Unfortunately, I'm 17, so how strict are they on the age requirement of ages 6-14? I have some duplicate rare SW droids (from 2014 Sandcrawler and some astromechs) that that I would try to trade for droids I don't have. Do I have a chance at finding an equal trade, or would it mostly be CMF and common minifigs?
Does anyone know how long the Sandcrawler will be available? I want get it by a possible 10% offer on may the fourth.
Thanks:)
(Sorry for my english)
^may the fourth?
@AstroDroid, I took my son to one of the swap days earlier this year it was more common minifigs and CMFs more than anything. That was only with the staff that was working at the time though, so I'm not sure if there was anyone else around that had anything better to trade.
@bok2 May the Fourth is Star Wars Day and LEGO traditionally has special SW deals on that day.
@Josh._777 According to the LEGO.com availability for the Sandcrawler, only the UK still has it available. All other countries are currently out of stock and will ship later. Sometimes when a set is out of stock, it can mean that it is reaching the end of its time in retail. Since the Sandcrawler is already 2 years old, it may not be wise to wait longer unless you want to risk it retiring. I personally own the Sandcrawler and would recommend it to any SW fan.
@solid_strider Thanks! I'll probably check it out just to see how they are.
I think the freebie may carry the name of "countdown calendar" to avoid confusion with the advent calendar that should be on its way any time now.
Get in! double VIP on the death star
(Drools)
@blogzilly I've only ordered from LEGO twice. The first time, the boxes were loose in the bigger box and pretty badly banged up. The second time I ordered some PF stuff, and they packaged it a lot more carefully.
This is a pretty neat promo. I hope it comes with some interesting parts, and not stuff I can throw together from a $30 brick bucket...
@Astrodroid
I live in Germany/Switzerland and in the Shop it says "Auf Lager" what means the same as available
Wow, this appears to be a great promo. I'll reserve judgement for when we get better pics, but its hard to go wrong with 200+ pieces in a free promo.
I think I'll go for the GB Firehouse, Disney Castle, and Brick Bank. The points will get me a chunk of the way to the next modular too!
So I might be the only one that noticed this, but has Thanksgiving move to 10 Oct? Seems like that would have made the news, at least some buzz on Facebook.
@rtjepsen Yeah, that seems really weird. Hopefully nobody else got the memo and the stores won't be too packed the weekend before! Does this also mean Lego's Black Friday sale is coming early? :P
Presumably that's Canadian Thanksgiving, which is held a month earlier due to the earlier harvest there. Seriously, my wife is Canadian--they have it when the U.S. has Columbus Day.
That's Canadian Thanksgiving on October 10th.
I was going to get Rogue One sets first day, but I might wait a day for this.
Interesting, but really a waste if you can only build one item at a time IMO, especially for paying for 99 USD in stuff for it.
@parsom LEGO does have a little American bias, but keep in mind the UK has a lot of promotions the US doesn't have, too. ;)
@rtjepsen
@thebrickmagician
- Thanksgiving is in October... unless you happen to live in the United Snakes of Arrestobia (USA). Then it's in November. That's is because Americans do everything backwards from the rest of the world. Here in Canada it is October!
^^ Oh come on. Canadian Thanksgiving post-dates American Thanksgiving by a century. Even overlooking your "backwards" joke about us Americans, the comment is just factually off.
I can confirm there will be the same kind of freebie for purchase 125€+ at the Paris LEGO Store on the second half of September, it is already advertised :)
