10255 Assembly Square: celebrating ten years of modular buildings
Posted by Huw,
It's been ten years since the first modular building, 10182 Cafe Corner was launched and 10255 Assembly Square will be the 12th one to be released. Such has been the success of the series that the first three sets, which were 'retired' before many people started collecting them, are now very highly sought after.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series, designer Jamie Berard has packed this latest set with references to previous ones. Take a look a the list below, or examine the images closely to see how many you can spot.

Oh a dentis office, getting closer to a Hospital perhaps?
Finally ends the ridiculous discussion about whether or not Market Street is considered part of the Modular Building line.
No designer video or link to such?
Awesome. I can't find any other word. :) Can't wait to build this one, I really like the references to previous sets! Any information on when will the designer video be published?

@Brickmaestro I never understood why it continued to be a question given the fact that it has Technic pins in the same place as other Modular Buildings; and also its inclusion in the Mini Modulars should have put the pin in the coffin.
@tallblocktoo The LEGO YouTube channel hasn't posted the video, but you can see it via the promobricks channel.
Love the tie-in with the Brick Bank. I'll definitely have to pick this up on day one!
@Mango: thank you!
Little model of 10181 Eiffel Tower as well for the baby to look at / knock over!
Decent looking set, shame no new colour though. Feels a little cramped in to me but I respect the amount of details packed in, especially on the ground floor. Some great new pieces for me to use so I'm delighted about that. I'm also happy about the price compared to the rest of the world being in the UK. With such a grand scale I wonder in what direction they will go next year!
I think the last set I liked THIS much must have been the BSB...
I'm really gonna buy this set. x)
You forgot to mention the reference to the plants in PR: in front of the cafe corner there are the spiky plants that are used for the Parisian Restaurant as well!
The set looks amazing! They really did the best they possibly could on this one. I'm simply amazed!
I'm slightly disappointed. As undeniably great as it is, I'd have much preferred Lego use the opportunity of a higher priced modular to give us a single extra large building instead of what essentially seems like one and a half regular modulars.
The telephone in the dentist room is a reference to the Pet Shop (in the brown apartment building, they used the same phone build)
A real shame that they did not continue with the mini modulars. I loved those.
YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Yes! I have all of the sets in the photo! CANNOT WAIT! By far my favourite series that I collect!
So I'm a lot less ADD than Jamie I guess--that designer video was RUSHED!
In the photo above, can someone identify which set Jamie Berard is sitting directly in front of? The set to the left of Detective's Office. You can only see a bit of the corner...
Love how seamlessly they merged the different architectural styles. Actually prefer this to one large building - it looks more interesting. Although a couple large buildings, like a factory or something like that, would help break up the staccato effect caused by so many small ones.
@nhgonz Brick Bank
Thanks to Mango for including the link to the video. What a great set. Nice selection of minifigs and I appreciate all the small details and new pieces.
Thanks @merman! I see it now.
One of my biggest lego regrets is that I didn't start collecting these, when I see pictures of them all lined up they look amazing.
I need to win the lottery to be able to start now I think!!
Loving the busy shopping street feel!!
