Fresh Ideas
Posted by rock99rock,I find your lack of faith disturbing. You are now reading this in Vader's voice. Your powers are weak, old man. There have been a slew of great submissions since the last Fresh Ideas article, including this Vader bust. We've got 15 amazing projects to look through today, including 6 from your fellow readers. There are parks, ships, houses and robots to speak of. Continue through and vote for your favorites, on the 10th Fresh Ideas article!
Autumn Park - Modular Urban Park
This is a good iteration of an idea that I've long wanted to create. The monotony of the modular landscape needs to be broken up a bit. There is certainly a market for them if designers keep submitting them, but none have reached the 10K votes required to be considered. This version includes a great looking gazebo and a minifig-life-size chess board. The designer of this set is BrentWaller. His name might sound familiar to you, as 3 of his past projects reached 10K; Ghostbusters being the one that was approved. Hopefully this will be his 4th project to reach such a plateau, and I can finally have my modular park.
Modular Christmas Park - Meet Santa!
Two parks? Well shiver me timbers! Looks like Brent has some good competition from . This wintery, snow-covered park has a massive Christmas tree decorated with stings of lights, stars, and a dash of snow. Santa is waiting in the back to take pictures with the children, while a large Santa boot lingers in the other corner for his elves to play in. This isn't nunki-psi's first attempt at getting a modular park approved; that happened to be the modular park mentioned in a previous Fresh Ideas article! The Autunm park might work for a more year-round theme, but this Christmas park is pretty fantastic too. Which one do you like more?
Modern House "Atelier"
One look at this house from the future, and you know you aren't in suburbia anymore. This take on a modern home designed by designfabrik_6732 is the 2nd such project of theirs we have featured here on Fresh Ideas, with the first being the Beach House from nearly 2 years ago! The house is breathtaking, breaking the mold of the cookie-cutter homes we are so used to seeing. The designer takes the modern theme inside, with unique furnishings throughout that compliment the rest of the project. Theres also an art room, and a bathroom with a pull-chain toilet. The details really tie this project together.
The Victorian Dream Home
Well this is from the other end of the spectrum compared to the Modern House, now isn't it? Brickset user buggyirk sent this design into us for a mention. They didn't have to, as it had already caught my eye. This masterpiece of a Victorian-type home is exquisite in every imaginable way, and represents the style of Victorians impeccably. Click on through to take a look at the detailed posh interior, which includes a grandfather clock, a crib for the baby, stained glass windows a chandelier, and a centerpiece rounded grand staircase that really ties it all together. There were some very bold color selections chosen for this project, which was in fact synonymous with these types of homes.
Titanic
You can hear Celine Dion right now, can't you? Maybe it's just me. I see an iconic scene or object or person, and the theme music or score they are most associated with starts playing in my head. That's not the fault of designer yanyan-E, who submitted Titanic as their first Lego Ideas project. The model of the ship is stunning! The deck is VERY detailed considering the scale, which brings into question the minifigures of Jack and Rose. My first thought was they were trying to mimic the Tumbler with The Dark Night and The Joker hanging out by the UCS sticker. Then I got to the later pictures (hint for future designers, the more pictures, the better!) and understood the real reasoning. The entire center of the ship flips open to reveal 5 vignette's depicting scenes from the movie itself. Brilliant. Click through and check it out.
Viking Long Ship
How long has it been since LEGO has put out a proper ship? The Pirate's of the Caribbean series ships were amazing, and shortly after those was the Pirate Ship Ambush from LOTR, and not much since then. This Viking Long Ship from Infantry10 is a solid representation of the iconic vessels from ages ago. Some interesting techniques were used to give the side of the ship its final shape. The designer based this project off an actual Viking ship that's in a Norway museum. Click through for the details of that ship and it's history, and to show your support.
The Iron Giant
This project by BrettCuv is already doing quite well. Over 7500 votes in a month and a half is quite impressive! Admittedly, I am not familiar with the movie. I don't know how it slipped past my radar while in college, honestly! Every Iron Giant project that comes up in ideas seems to have quite a bit more support than most projects. It must have been a fantastic movie to have such a large following after 17 years. The designer is going with the flow and has added a few updates to the joints to appease a few of the initial concerns of the design. I suppose I can replace 1 of my dozen viewings of "A Christmas Story" this weekend with "The Iron Giant". (added to queue)
Tram of Opicina
This LEGO tram from Italy is a STUNNING representation of the real one on the streets, and was designed by PrisonBrick. After seeing a few shots of the original I found on Google, the comparison was uncanny. The first railed vehicle I wrote about was the San Francisco Cable Car, and this is similar in size and purpose. I think the tram would serve well in a city scene, sharing the road with cars in between some modular buildings. Ever since the Horizon Express has left LEGO store shelves, I've been itching for another Creator Expert train set. I suppose a few of these could hold me over!
Grand Central Terminal
This iconic building in NYC has been featured in countless movies and TV shows. I have seen LEGO Architecture-style buildings come and go in LEGO Ideas. Will this one have the staying power to make it to the review round? I hope so! Designer keoarchitect went a step further and added the interior to this project, which I believe takes it to the next level. I'm not entirely sure the ramp up front is necessary, nor the baseplate. As this is made from actual LEGO brick and not put together in software, perhaps the designer didn't have the standard Architecture black tiles and plates to place it on. Either way, it would be a day-1 purchase for me due to the scale and level of detail that was put into the model. What an effort!
The BatMobile (1960s)
Ba na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na... BATMAN! Theres that theme song problem i have again... No matter! This 60's BatMobile in LEGO form by is a great site to see. Designer legogumgumball said that they wanted to have the original next to the Tumbler, and now I can see why they went through with the build. I wish they had put up a picture of the 2 side-by-side for comparisons sake. The original "fins" and afterburner are there in the rear, open cockpits and the red phone are all there! They really went the extra mile with the SNOT technique and it really compliments the design of the vehicle. Hopefully someday I can place this next to my Tumbler, and the Batmans and Jokers can compare notes.
Darth Vader Portrait Sculpture
I've got a baaaad feeling about this... That was me. Not Vader, obviously. Don't let looks be deceiving, this bust is quite small at only 4.5" (11.43cm) tall, and 338 pieces. We all know the drill, IP that LEGO already has rights to has a slimmer chance of being chosen. That won't stop me from promoting this awesome project, which happens to be the same designer of the Victorian-style mansion above, buggyirk! He submitted both projects 4 days apart, so I had no choice but to include both and commend him on 2 widely different projects that stand out from the pack. It might just be me, but I think I'd prefer the "stand" to be all black as well. Black is such a subtle color already that the light blueish gray distracts a bit. Other than that, what a great use of pieces and techniques to achieve such an outstanding representation of this iconic villain.
Featured Designer - nunki-psi
The designer of the Christmas Park above is this months Featured designer! nunki-psi's has submitted a number of projects, including the Midieval Bakery above that has over 2500 votes, but just over 25 days till it expires. They have a great style and continually impress me with their designs. Visit the project page and send a few votes their way!

Wallace's head needs to be taller, but Gromit is perfect. The Iron Giant is a great story/film but I don't think it's well-known enough to sell well.
I'll take the tram.
These projects are sure amaizing, I love the Iron Giant movie and have found it quite refreshing for a war against aliens of everything that has been previously feautered.
The tram is perfect!
I like the two park scenes, but would prefer the Christmas one more. However, I fear both would suffer from being connected to two modular buildings on either side. They would be lost. And some elements like the gazebo and the large Christmas tree would be too close to the next-door building.
These are all great. Haven't watched the Iron Giant but I feel like it might have the best chance out of all of these.
These moc's looks like very very nice.
The four reader projects are oddly aligned, so it only looks like two on mobile devices.
I would recommend the Christmas Story House by twrt0es. By the way, that's not my project, but I would still recommend it.
^ I noticed that too. I guess that plugin isn't mobile compatible, or I did it wrong :)
That tram is gorgeous.
Love the modern house, looks just superb. I hope they would do some kind of modern/futuristic buildings in the creator range
Another great Fresh Ideas article Rock99rock. I like, and agree with, all your suggestions. I will have a look at the projects on Ideas over the coming days.
Thanks, Brian, for your collaboration on highlighting great Ideas projects this year.
It is already Christmas Day here in NZ. Have a happy holiday.
Nice ideas!
Classic School Bus deserves more votes- it appears to be scale with the Modular Buildings line too
Thank you rock99rock! I can't believe that my MOC is on Brickset! Thank you all! This is a beatiful gift for me!
Merry Christmas :)
Thanks rock99rock for adding Vader and The Victorian Dream Home to your fresh ideas picks! Vader was actually published on LEGO Ideas May 3, 2016, but the "Star Wars" tag never worked. Nobody could find the project so I finally gave up on the old submission. I asked LEGO Ideas to delete it and I resubmitted it hoping the tags would work. Luckily they do now. I really appreciate you including both projects. What a nice surprise!
Thank you rock99rock for featuring my Grand Central Terminal on your blog! To have my creation included with these other amazing MOCs is truly an honor!
Thank you Bricket for highlighting my Lego Ideas Wallace and Gromit project.
Wallace and Gromit official Facebook page also shared the project :

Even Peter Lord commented on the project on Tweeter :

Wouldn't it be great to also have Wallace and Gromit minifigures and sets inspired by their cracking adventures ?
I wish you had waited another month before featuring these projects. You'll see why in a few weeks...
