Leicester Square store: opening offers

Posted by ,

It's now just a week until the world's largest LEGO store opens in Leicester Square, London. After a invitation-only event next Wednesday it opens its doors to the public late morning on Thursday the 17th of November.

We can now reveal what the opening offers are going to be:

The offers will be available until Sunday the 20th of November.

I am also told that "there will also be a couple of products launching and available for purchase that will not be available anywhere else!"

The Brickset team will be there on the 16th and will be bringing you a full report as soon as we are allowed to the following morning.

We have also had a response from LEGO about the availability of Lester:

"Regarding Lester, we love him and are super happy that he has been so successful as a mascot for our London store.

"He was initially designed to use in print and other communication, but we are thrilled with his popularity, and excited that we are able to produce a limited number of special edition Lester Minifigures to celebrate the grand opening.

"The scratch card is intended to be the fairest method of distribution to ensure that all LEGO fans in attendance get an equal chance of getting their hands on one."

It still begs the question why they did not just make more, but at least the scratch card method does seem like a fair way of distributing them if they really are in short supply.

Daft question but I assume the offers will be available on the Sunday 20th as well?

Wow, I envy those who can go. Great time to be at a store opening with the new store giveaways and the holiday promos going on.

By in United Kingdom,

Will there be a grand opening some time next year with the building event and other normal free gifts like exclusive mini figure pack, or is this the only grand opening?

Also, I am curious where this information came from since LEGO Stores website has not been updated for a while and there is nothing in the store calendar. It does not seem like LEGO are promoting this opening very well if only LEGO fan sites are posting about the promos.

Is it likely more than one deal will apply. So if you spend over £125, you'll still get the other offers?

The response from LEGO about the Lester minifig it terrible PR guff. How is the scratch card in any way fairer than just giving away the gift to people who make purchases over a certain value?

I guess with the scratch card they can guarantee availability for longer. If they just gave him out for purchases over a certain amount, then he could be gone very quickly or they'd have to set the price so high most people will be priced out.

This way, they can still ensure availability at the weekend, say, when children might be able to make it to the store with parents.

By in United States,

I don't know why they wouldn't just make too many of the Lester Minifigures. Make sure you don't run out and when you have thousands left over, you offer them for sale like the Chicken Suit Guy, which is still available at Toys R Us in Ohio. I get that making the Minifig rare and special gets people to come to the Grand Opening, but if I went and ended up with a Parrot, I'd be so pissed.

It's just not really that big of a deal is it. I wish people would Just enjoy it rather than find something to moan about. I'm sure any way Lego cut it, it would be seen as unfair to some. Let's not lose perspective here. Lego is a company and not a charity. Whilst lego is fun and an interesting collectable for all ages...it's essentially a child's toy.

By in Norway,

I have no problems with special give aways. But this time it looked ones that i will be in London soon after the opening. I had hoped to get one.
Liked the figure. May be they will have another version of him for sale. not the grand opening one.

Maybe lots of the scratchcards are winners - we simply don't know the numbers.

Stops the scalpers and collectors taking all the figures, and means kids get something to hope for rather than turning up and seeing a big sign saying there are none left. Gets my approval!

By in United Kingdom,

I walked past the new store this evening and am very excited about it :-)

I was thinking that I might go on opening morning if 40145 was going to be available, so I'm up for it now I've read it is!

I'll be there, do you know if the Lego brand retail store will be limited in numbers? I'd hate to miss out on it

By in United Kingdom,

So what time exactly is late morning? I can't wait!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

11 or 11.30 I thnk

By in United Kingdom,

I think I'd be fine with this if the purchase level for the card was lower to give kids more of a chance or even if it was first 100 customers.

I'd imagine that, for whatever reason, they simply didn't foresee that Lester would appeal so strongly to people. Ironically, his very scarcity has probably increased his appeal...

By in Belgium,

Does everybody get the mini Lego store with purchases over £125, or is this one limited to the first X customers? I'd like to browse the PaB walls without having to rush back to the cash register :)

Even without getting Lester the goodies are stil nice I reckon. Mini store + Christmas build calendar = over 600 'free' bricks.

The Lego Store is usually the first 500 qualifying purchases.
So I expect it to run out within the first 3 hours. Possibly even the first hour.

By in United Kingdom,

I think that might be exaggerating it a bit...

By in United Kingdom,

I'm curious on what the exclusive products that are launching at the store. Will they be small souvenirs items like the New York stores have or a few 2017 products? Either way I cannot wait!

As for the LEGO Store I have decided not to get one as it's not something I'd like to own anymore.

To people who have been to openings before, do the offers stack up? I.e. if I buy something over £125, will I get the Retail Store, Scratch Card, 24 in 1, and Soldier? Or do I just get the single offer product for the amount I spend?

I've aranged to go on the 17th and deliberately avoided buying some recent sets so I can get them and any offers that come with.

@Adman1020: yes you'll get the whole list of goodies when you spend £125. I got lots of freebies when I purchased a single modular at the Lego store birthday event in Antwerp. That is my reference, and I think it'll be the same now.

By in United Kingdom,

I believe they will stack.

By in Germany,

By in United Kingdom,

I'll be there on opening day, not sure i'm gonna spend £125 as have just bought some expensive sets but I'll be there.

By in United Kingdom,

I will be going next Saturday, so the first weekend it's open. I can probably get enough small sets together that I still want to get to the £60 threshold for 3 gifts. I am going with someone else so at least that means we double the chance of a Lester but I don't have the parrot yet so that's at least some consolation. But you wonder whether people are going to try and buy Lesters from other people if they see them winning?

To all the people complaining about a random promotion and suggesting a 'first come first serve' idea instead - what about all of us that can't go to the middle of London in the middle of the week, and need to wait til the weekend? I'm still excited that this store will effectively be my closest by travel time!

By in United Kingdom,

Really want that Brand Retail Store.
My plan of action: Buy some big set, get the exclusives, (I know i'm def not winning the Lester Figure).
See you all on Thursday.
@huw, I plan to get there for 9am. Will stop at tesco beforehand so I'm not starving or dehydrated.
